It went fine overall -- there was one glitch in that the furnace did not restart properly, and the technician had already left when I discovered this. I called and was quickly connected to him on a Saturday morning and he was able to walk me through the steps on the phone to fix the problem. The furnace has been running smoothly ever since.

i got there name from another company. The company is family owned and local. They not only showed up on time, each day they cleaned up completely. You wouldn't even know someone was here. The owner gave me an immediate estimate unlike the other companies. They also filled out the rebate paperwork for me in full.

The service technician identified a problem with the activation of the blower. The service of the furnace and resolution of the blower activation problem - including a follow-up - were performed in a completely professional and timely manner. I have used Bull Mountain to service my furnace for 3 years. The first year, I also had them install a new water heater. All services have been performed to the same standard as for the latest service described here.

I received quotes from 3 local companies and not only was Bull Mountain's quote significantly cheaper (by about $800 compared to one quote - which may have been high because I'm not even sure the guy wanted to do the installation), but they also agreed to do the entire installation of the tankless water heater without my needing to hire (and pay for) a sub-contractor to do a portion of the installation. As I learned, the installation of a tankless water heater usually requires a decent re-routing of the gas line to the water heater location, the plumbing intake and output, and the exhaust - and if you don't have an outlet near the water heater location, which I did not, then you need an electrician to install an outlet. The 2 other contractors I obtained quotes from were going to require me to find a subcontractor to do portions of the changes necessary to complete the entire installation - one of the contractors expected me to find 2 additional subcontractors (not ideal when you're talking about your house's hot water supply, and having 3 different contractors to do the work was going to take at least an extra day or two). Bull Mountain on the other hand did need to have a subcontractor do the electrician's work, but they had a guy they used and did the scheduling with him so I didn't have to find an electrician as well. As for the actual installation, Bull Mountain's guy - Jonathon was his name I believe - was great. I personally felt that he gave the installation the attention it deserved - as if he were installing it in his own house. For example, early on in the installation he was attaching the unit to the wall in a location he thought was best - but when I checked-in on his work and realized that I neglected to communicate exactly where I wanted the unit, he agreed to move it without being upset even in the slightest at my request. Of course, if he had started the re-routing of the gas line or water lines, such a change wouldn't have been feeasible. But even moving the brackets added another 20-30 minutes to his work. In the end, I was extremely pleased with his work and his dedication to it. I made the decision that at some point in the near future I'm going to have a high-efficiency heater installed as well, and I'm not even going to bother looking at any other companies. Maybe that is short-sighted on my part, but I was very pleased with their pricing, their friedliness (Brian, who does the business components such as giving quotes, was also very pleasant to work with), and their dedication to quality workmanship. I don't see a reason to gamble with any other companies that do similar work.

Dec. 30th heard a really loud noise from the garage. The furnace was shaking very violently and a really loud noise was coming from the furnace. We turned off both thermostats and the noise/shaking stopped. New Years Eve morning we called around and thankfully Bull Mountain was working. They said someone will call back to set up a time to come out. We got a call immediately back and within a couple hours Jonathan showed up. He was very professional, told us exactly the issue, and fixed it promptly. Furnace works and we have heat! Thanks!

We got several bids and chose Bull Mountain even though their bid was highest because they had been recommended to us by someone who thought the quality of their work and equipment would be higher. They had given us a quote with various options on it. I emailed back and forth with their representative, the one who had given us a quote, in order to make sure I understood the pros and cons of each option and how they compared with the other bids we had received. When we decided to go with Bull Mountain, I sent an email to our rep, Brian Hansen, who told me to call his office to schedule. I called the office and spoke with their scheduler. She scheduled the work a few weeks out, saying it would take 4-5 full days. She told me to circle the options we wanted in the quote, sign it and send it back with a 50% deposit, which I did, adding a handwritten line on the bottom that the total work was not to exceed $5890 (the sum of each of the options we were selecting). They started on time. Their workmen were very polite and competent. The trouble began at the end of the first day of work. I got a call from Brian. He said he had only just received the signed quote I had sent back (which I had mailed back 12 days before!) and that he took issue with the total being $5890. His argument was that the way they had quoted the Federal and State incentives was only intended to be accurate if you selected any ONE of the options (although he knew perfectly well that we were going to select a contractor to provide both a water heater AND a new furnace), that the maximum Federal incentive is $1500 so of course we couldn't also expected to receive the Federal incentive of $996 that they had quoted on the water heater, and that they hadn't meant to imply that the cost of each system was our total out of pocket cost (although he confirms that exactly in an email correspondence) but rather it would be our end cost after tax credits. I just kept saying, this is what you sold me. I have it here in writing. I have an email correspondence that backs this up. It's not my job to understand how the incentives work. It's your job to understand them and to explain them to your customers in such a way that they understand them. The conversation ended in a stalemate when I had to leave to pick up my child from aftercare. I didn't know if the crew would show up the next day and continue the work but they did. When the company deposited my deposit check and I saw it clear, I figured they had decided that they would rather do the job as they had bid and have a happy customer rather than to make a big fuss and have a very unhappy customer. They finished the job in three days rather than the 4-5 they had anticipated, which means they should have made very good money on the job. On the final day of work, at the end of the day when I got home, the older owner of the company, Jack Hansen, was there to present me the final invoice. He also gave me a letter explaining that they cannot be responsible for incentives (but not explaining why they had failed to make me understand that before the job was in progress). The invoice was for $9276 ($3386 more than the quote they gave us for $5890). Even with the possible tax incentives AND a new $300 manufacturer's rebate, it would still come to $696 more than we were quoted and it would mean a total out of pocket cash expense of $9276 rather than the $5890 we were planning on. IF the incentives and the manufacturers rebate all panned out perfectly, we would get back up to $2690 of that, but from our point of view that's a big IF considering that this company either doesn't understand the incentives or deliberately mislead us about them from the beginning (or just failed to communicate them effectively). A couple days after the installation when we went to turn on the furnace for the first time. It didn't work. After spending a bunch of time troubleshooting, I contacted their office and they sent out a tech. Apparently the condensate pump they had installed had died just after they completed their testing. The tech let me know this was the first model of this furnace and condensate pump that they had installed so they were still figuring things out. He got a new condensate pump in and then the furnace worked. The other big issue was that we didn't have a push button recirculation system that allowed us to call hot water to the upstairs bathroom without flushing gallons of water down the drain. They had added this item to the quote at our request. I had showed Brian a print out from a web page when he visited our home to create a quote and he said he knew just what it was. They apparently installed some other sort of recirculation system that is supposed to "circulate hot water in the existing lines, giving hot water more quickly. We have never used a switch, only the programmable timer on the water heater. No pricing for a switch is stated on the proposal." Well, the proposal says quite clearly "install recirculation pump line." Is it a leap that we would have assumed this referred to the push button recirculation system we had asked them to quote? We assumed that's what it was. Around this time, I called the Construction Contractor's Board about the company and the situation. The agent that I spoke with had to look up their CCB number because it wasn't on their quote or their invoice or their letter or any of the materials we had received from them (a violation of CCB rules). Bull Mountain is apparently a dba of a parent company called Brauk Enterprises, Inc. They informed me that the company is required to give us a formal contract signed by both parties detailing exactly what the charges will be (which Bull Mountain never did but would have saved all this misunderstanding). The CCB advised me to start the complaint process which I have. Then I had an round of email exchanges then with Laura Hansen who is the director of customer relations. She just kept reiterating that they can't be responsible for incentives. She didn't offer any apology for poor communication or confusing billing. She didn't acknowledge that they installed the wrong recirculation system. She did not acknowledge the CCB violations.
Description of Work: Replace gas furnace with new high efficiency gas furnace. Replace water heater with new tankless hot water heater and install push-button water circulation pump in upstairs bathroom.

Bull Mountain completed the project in a professional manner in the time frame convenient for the member. She voiced her satisfaction with the install when I, Jack Hansen, and an inspector came to fire up the system. She was then presented with a final invoice, as well as a letter of what to expect for payment, and the process to receive her credits and incentives. A PAID IN FULL invoice must be presented to process any requests for rebate. Federal Tax Credit cannot exceed $1500 for any one person.

Everything went great. We had many contractors there, but none as punctual and eager as Bull Mountain. They went the extra mile in a big way. AND, this was through a contest, so they actually weren't even getting paid. Truly amazing. Even the side work (like re-pouring a concrete walkway to go around the new AC unit was done very well. I recently had some other work done in my basement and the contractor that was there remarked "This is the most impressive installation of an HVAC system/Ductwork I have ever seen. . . and my brother does this. My brother's work is nice, but doesn't compare to this" Thank you Jack and family for a job well done.
Description of Work: Bull Mountain did a complete replacement of an old furnace and 90% of the duct work. (not to mention taking out an old gross closet free of charge) They added a three zone top of the line furnace, air cleaner, new ductwork, three thermostats, and did extensive testing to insure it was all working well. They also RUSHED to get our brand spankin new AC system up and running before the temperatures reached 100 degrees + last year. They were extremely professional, always responsive and interested. And, they included 1 year of service for the HVAC. They also installed a Rinnai tankless water heater.

Jack Hansen and his associate responded quickly that same day. They spent over an hour looking our system, discussing various theories as to why our recent heating costs might be so high. At the time they seemed both knowledgeable and competent. At their request I was asked to obtain a gas and electric usage history of our home. We were denied access to records prior to our ownership of our home. I communicated that to Jack Hansen. He said he would try to obtain usage information himself but he would need about a week. As of today, now nearly two weeks has past and I have heard no response to my two follow ups. I am disappointed in his lack of service and unprofessional behavior. If he or one of his associates is too busy or uninterested in providing us service I would have preferred that I be told so right away so I could contact someone else. I would not recommend Bull Mountain Mechanical for quality service.
Description of Work: Upon a recommendation from The Energy Trust of Oregon, I contacted Bull Mountain Mechanical to review our home s HVAC system. We had purchased this home less than 8 months ago and were unfamiliar with the type and complexity of our system.

We do apologize for this, it's was a clear miscommunication. We were helping to find out what was going on with the home and we lost her in the shuffle. We have organized the company so that things like this never happen again. Waiting for others to call us back so we could give her information never came in, so while waiting to her back from them we forgot to call her back. This is not normal; we stand for great service and going that extra mile to make sure our clients are happy. Hopefully she will call us back and we can work with her again, very nice and a great person.

Bull Mountain mechanical saved us at least $500 and exceed my expectations in service. He called back quickly, came out on little notice and was very honest.
Description of Work: Our A/C was out and Jack came out on the weekend to give me a second opinion. He actually got it up and running in a matter of minutes. The first contractor had told us our compressor was out and it would costs about $800 to fix it. Jack just ordered a replacement part for us and we were set.

Some companies go out there and say things are broken so that can make a sale, we have found that being honest and telling the customer the truth holds that customer for a long, long time. This service call was no different, the AC unit had a very simple repair so Jack fixed it and she was good to go. We have work with her a couple more times and it looks like this will be a very long lasting relationship.

I found Jack's attitude very off-putting and he was quite condescending. Either b/c my home is not a mansion on 5+ acres on Bull Mtn or Cooper Mtn, or b/c I'm a woman, but he REALLY didn't want to be bothered. I know GT costs more, but I'm still very interested, have done a ton of research, and am willing to pay a premium to reduce energy consumption. I'd love to get off the grid someday. Jack wasn't interested in finding out any details. He was telling me it was a bad idea before even asking me how big my house was or what my needs were, what my priorities are or budget. And the numbers he was throwing around were greatly out of sync with everything else I've read; on the order of $40,000 - $50,000.
Description of Work: I contacted Bull Mtn to get information and a quote for a geothermal heat pump to replace an ancient gas furnace.

Response from Bull Mountain Heating AC & Insulation
It’s been a long time since this happened, however I would like to explain. We were called out to this home to offer a geothermal heat pump. On review of the home we had found it would be a better return on investment to not go with a geothermal heat pump but a normal heat pump. She didn't like that because she had read about how nice they can be. The problem is that she didn't have the yard to run a trench so we would have had to drill. As we are an HVAC company we don't have the tools to drill so we have to Sub that work out to another company. The drilling would have cost alone $25,000 to $30,000 plus we won’t even sure we could get the equipment into the backyard because of its small size to drill. What it came down to was that she felt it was crazy for us to think differently or give her such an outrageous price, although Jack was only trying to give her other more reasonable options. I'm sorry she feels we had wronged her in some way, but we really are very honest and if it's not going to work to what you want then we are going to say that and give other options. Hope this explains what happened here. Thanks!
