Very knowledgeable and responsive. Had bids from several different companies; I had the most faith in their representative who came out to go over the planning for the project and found their bid to be quite competitive. Happy with the work provided, new yard looks great!
Description of Work: Removal of old sod with soil amendment and french drain placement, graded and leveled yard and replaced with new sod.

Great! They were very thorough and provided all the work needed. Cleaned up everything needed.
They were very professional and quick to respond to questions and give estimates. I provided detailed plans for the work and had discussions with the foreman prior to all the phases of the project to confirm what I wanted. I pulled the permit for the wall and did the engineering plans, they did the sidewalk permit. The team did a good job in the demo of the existing wall and the excavation for the concrete work. The forming crew was OK, but did not pay attention to the re-bar plan so I had to step in to get them to add in the additional re-bar the engineer had in the plans I had given to them. The pour went well and came out the way I wanted. The sidewalk demo and replacement went off without a hitch. The setting of the bamboo barrier wobbled over the property line and had to be corrected. The worker spread out the excavated dirt and did not put it all back into the planting area, I had to scrape it up and put it back where it was supposed to go. He should have put the excavation on plastic so that it could easily be put back into the planting area. The brick planter was not really square on one exposed corner, mostly due to not getting the initial concrete base formed square which they did not correct when setting the brick. The rise on the planter was pretty high and the middle section bowed out a bit due to settling of the bricks on wet mortar. They probably should have did the build over two days to allow the mortar to set correctly so that it would not slip out. The joints and mortar cleanup were just fine and the courses were level. I set out a string and stake outline of the rock wall section as well as specific instructions to match the existing rock work on the other side of the driveway. The new one had three equal sections with each section dropping lower toward one end. The resulting wall did not match the plans. Two sections were about 1/2 foot longer than correct and the third was 1 foot shorter than requested. They did not trim the cap stones to have the correct length for each section, they just used what was easy so the sections were made longer or shorter than I requested. The cap stones should also have been trimmed to joint and produce a cleaner cap with squarer caps and an even overhang over the rest of the wall. One section was not straight along the top, they stuck a rock in the field that was too high and ran the cap over it rather than using a smaller rock or trimming the big one. It looks "bent". Conclusion: Overall, they can handle the simple stuff that does not really vary from the generic. For example, the sidewalk went perfectly, but they ignored the re-bar plans for the wall and I had to correct them. They corrected the problem with the bamboo barrier quickly to my satisfaction. When it comes to detailed finish work, such the rock work and the planter they really don't do so well. They seem to know what I want and agree with it, but you cannot leave them alone to follow plans. Unfortunately for those two jobs, I could not be there to watch them like a hawk and stop them from doing it wrong. They offered to redo the cap on the wall, but the new stone was pretty much the same as the existing stone and they simply lack the stone/brick mason skills that allow you to trim and work the stone to produce that level of quality work. I determined that any changes they would make would not materially change anything so it was not worth trying because it could be worse. When you really care about the result and it requires some specialized skills and the finished product cannot be easily changed, you really want specialists that know what they are doing. I would not use them for that kind of work.
Description of Work: The company replaced an old loose rock retaining wall with a new concrete section 43 feet long and 5 feet high. An additional section 23 feet log was done in natural basalt rock work. They added a brick planter to one end of the retaining wall. 23 feet of bamboo barrier was added. About 15 feet of cracked sidewalk was also replaced.

Response from Forest Landscape Inc
Project was followed to specifications provided by customer, walls, planter etc.. Rebar was spaced at designated specifications to pass inspection prior to pouring of walls. Stone wall was built to match up existing wall on site as best fit due to higher elevations of soils, grounds on one side of driveway were about 2' higher than other side. We stand behind our work, this is verifiable by the hundreds of customers who are happy with our customer service, timely manners and workmanship. Forest Landscape Inc.

The guy who came out was really nice. He worked in the back. We didn't pay anymore than what they quotes us. They came and did almost everything that they were supposed to do. The had to come back twice because they missed a few things, that was the only problem we had with them. They had missed a couple of things and had to keep coming back. They were good. It was fine. They did what they were supposed to do and they did it really quickly. There were a lot of stuff at the back of my mom's house. They cleared it out. They cleaned up after themselves and took it all.
From the very first contact Jose Castenada was very responsive and came out on a Saturday morning to look at the job site and provide a quote for the work. He offered a wide range of stamp options, concrete and sealer colors at no additional charge. Initially, his price was a little higher than his competitors but he was a reasonable negotiator and we settled on a price in the middle of the pack. From there on out the work was coordinated by Rigo Castenada. Rigo was also very pleasant to work with, coming out at times that fit my schedule and explained the process in detail. The very next week his crew came in and in one day demolished and removed the old patio, excavated and graded the area, laid the gravel foundation and set the form and poured the new concrete patio. They left a very clean job site, making sure the driveway was cleaner than they found it. The next day, his crew came back and sealed the new concrete. From start to finish the work took two consecutive days and the new patio looks great. I highly recommend Forest Landscape, Inc. and will certainly call them again if I have a concrete or landscaping job.
Description of Work: Demolish and remove existing 10x10 concrete patio. Excavate and grade 12x24 area for new patio. Level backyard slope. Install new 12x24 stamped and colored concrete patio with 84x16x6 step. Seal new patio and step.
This company does quality, cost effective work. They were always early and stayed late. I would hire them again in a heart beat. This was a large project that was bidder on by 4 other companies. They were the by far the best!!!
Description of Work: Completely transformed 2.5 acres of raw land. Brand new construction. Completed rock walls, drive way, sod and seeded property, flower beds, irrigation and a pathway to the vegetable garden.

All old materials were removed and the job site was very clean and neat. They completed the entire job in a single day. The crew even leveled and cleaned up an area near the wall that was not strictly part of the job. We were very pleased from quote to completion.
Description of Work: Tore out an old railroad tie retaining wall that had failed and installed a stacking stone retaining wall and staircase.
You know, these folks were just great. Easy to work with, always on time, and they kept you abreast of what they planned to accomplish the next day. The area alongside the west side of the house going from the front to the back yard was like a muddy swamp when it rained. So we decided to get some bids on what to do with it from three contractors. Forest Grove was not the cheapest of the bids nor the most expensive, but they had taken more time with us at our home and walked through different options for us. We ended up with a curved walkway from the front of the house, to the back deck with a gradual slope away from the house for water to run to a drain system hidden by loose river rock. There was also a small retaining wall of natural rock along the side the house to hold back some of the neighbors' yard that sloped down to ours. They also rebuild the gate out of cedar that connected the west side of the house to the front yard. They are very professional, friendly people that made sure the job was done the right way. We have more work in the spring of next year we want done, and I can guarantee you they will get the job. Rick and Celeste Brown Beaverton, OR
Description of Work: They put in a sidewalk from the front of the house around the back to the back deck. They also put in a drain system that carried the water away from the house. They put in a new gateway from the front of the house for access to the side of the house. Also a small rock retaining wall.

Everyone in the company that we've met has been courteous and responsive. Jose was pleasant to talk with when we were deciding what to do and getting the bid. His bid was produced quickly and was competitive with other bids we received. Rigo came to our house to confirm the plans and to mark where things would go. The crew came when they said they would, they were efficient and respectful and they cleaned up when they left. We had one miscommunication about where sod would be placed, but that was quickly corrected. The yard looks beautiful and the work seems to be good quality.

It's beautiful!! They did a great job. There were obstacles, but they took their time to consider options, and their solutions made it so much better. Jose, Rigo, Juan and the rest of the crew were great to deal with. They were very responsive and patient through my little 'freakouts.' They also hired a utility locator to make sure they wouldn't puncture any of the existing irrigation lines and were sensitive to the work-hour restrictions of our HOA. They left the surrounding area and their staging area looking better than it did before they started. What more could you ask for? Yes, we would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They did an extension to an existing paver patio. About 270 sft. They had to excavate, haul away old gravel and shave significant tree roots.

First, I don't think we overrated this company. Anyone can find imperfections but what we saw were to be expected. As for service, price and punctuality, they are very impressive. We were not expecting a job this large from a company that only says "Landscape" in their name. The should be Forest Landscape and Concrete. Not only was the price well below the next highest quote we had, they did more than any other bids entailed. They dug out the area for the forms, installed the forms, brought in the gravel and concrete (we already had the re-bar) but they installed that too. Poured concrete, smoothed and used a trowel for hours. The removed forms and cleaned up. They worked in the rain in the sun, had lunch at the same time everyday, together, I never saw anyone "taking a break". They have a method for moving from job to job in teams and appears to be well planned out. I expect that although they were busy this method of using teams to move from job to job allows them to do jobs quicker. We have a gravel driveway to the shop entrance so I don't know if the cement truck would have made the mess that would have bothered me but from what I experienced, they cleaned up just fine. The owner was onsite several times, confirmed plans each time, and worked with us when the plans changes or the supply list needed modification. To those that are getting the work done: don't do the landscaping first. They were great about parking in the gravel but it would be hard to avoid the gravel trucks and cement trucks from ruining your grass. Not anyone's fault. Another pointer, although this company was prompted and was here when promised, expect at least four days at home (minus a couple days while the cement dries), we had gates and dogs so maybe if you have a front yard, this won't be necessary, but as an owner you should be present or at least checking in for peace of mind, but mostly since it was a fascinating project to watch and take pictures before and after). Finally, expect some clean up, although they packed out what they packed in, the dirt that was removed for the forms still needed to be leveled, that we expected and actually helped. I don't know if that was planned for us or not but you should ask if you are worried about it. Don't let the name fool you on cement work, they do great work. I will be calling them back.

They sent out 2 individuals for 4 hours. They were nice guys.
Description of Work: I purcahsed a $265 deal for 8 man hours of professional landscaping services. They basically cleaned up the yard, did pruning, and got the yard ready for winter.
I cannot say enough good things about Forest Landscape. All the way from the beginning, Jose displayed true professionalism in the bid process, followed up with me, and kept good contact throughout our arrangement. His crew showed up early, and began work promptly. They communicated with me throughout, and since I am a bit of a perfectionist, they even did some extra things for me to make sure it was perfect. In other words, they took my nit-picky nags in stride; they did not question it, they just did it. How many contractors do such a thing?! Wow! I especially like the professionalism from the crew. All of them (yes, ALL) had work attire; they each had neon Forest Landscape shirts on, which not only displays professionalism but also markets their work. They have a solid crew, hard working and they get the job done fast. One morning to prep the site; the next morning they poured the concrete. Since our house was recently painted, they even put up plastic around the work area to protect the house from the concrete they were putting in. They were clean and efficient, and did not leave anything behind (no garbage or trash). Jose's brother, Rigo came out about a week after and checked on everything for us. He left the forms in for us longer than they usually would (at our request, which they did not question), and made sure that our needs were met. I would tell Jose and Rigo that our needs were beyond met, and we will certainly be giving them a call next year (hopefully soon) when we need to redo our Patio area with stamped concrete. I trust Forest Landscape enough that I will not be taking any other bids for that. Overall, for those researching into this company, take any negative reviews with a grain of salt. From our experience, they did a great job. Concrete can be a messy business, but trust me, you want them dealing with the mess and not yourself. Otherwise, you may have a weird looking slab with concrete all over your yard and not where you need it. :)
Description of Work: Excavated, prepared, and poured 3 concrete slabs, broom finish. One for a 10 x 13 ft. garden shed area, two smaller slabs on side yard gate area, and one slab to hold Air Conditioning unit on side of house, complete with Rebar.

We got this as a gift for my brother. He said that they did a really good job. There is an area in front of their home that had gotten over grown. It had a lot of rocks in it too. What this company did was they moved all the rocks and removed the weed. They worked really hard at that.
Description of Work: We purchased a Big Deal from this company for $265 for 8 hours of professional landscaping services.
I am very pleased with the result. I had used them to put in a fence and a deck, so this is the third time I have employed this company. They are very responsive to my needs, very diligent in getting the work accomplished. Originally they put in a fence and had added a retaining wall under it so that at a later date they could raise the level of the yard. That is what they did this time. They took out three veggie garden raised beds the previous owners left, and put down a wonderfully emerald green sod. Perfect for the dog - sturdy The sod is spectacular, and the water system is wonderful. I had quite a few questions on areas of watering, and they addressed those quickly. Any pressure issue they came back and addressed again. My yard is beautiful and I receive lots of compliments. The brothers, Jose and Rigo, are very good people and work hard to make sure that all is well with the project and that the customer is satisfied completely.
Description of Work: Backfilled lower yard area; put in sod in back yard, put in sprinkler system in front, both sides, and back.

They were busy this summer, but it took several weeks to get them to the site, even after sending the contract and 1/2 down. I was getting worried with no communication back to us on a date. Finally did come and did a great job of taking out the old concrete, and putting in the changes we requested for the walkway and widening the driveway. Repacked the new driveway, removed several roots that were the issue for the break up, added gravel, and rebar. Issues we had are two: 1. the poor communication on a date to the work. 2. when they did pour the concrete they were short by several feet of the lower driveway and had to request more concrete. It was 2 and 1/2 hours before the final truck of concrete could get there and by now the upper portion was setting. There is a line across the lower driveway where you can not only see the match of the last poured and the earlier, that is 6 inches wide and very visible. They did work hard to try and even this out. And did come back a couple of days later to try and steel brush the seam to blend it better, but again it really did not work. They should have been able to better plan the amount to make this work out. I would give them a "B" overall. Hard workers, good workers, just the planning was bad.
Description of Work: Took out our old cement driveway and replaced with some additions. Added 18 inches for a walkway on one side and raised the walk to the front door to remove a step, allowing wheel chair access now.

Awesome! They did a great job cleaning up - there was nothing I would have had them do differently. They worked very hard and got a ton done with 2 people working 4 hours each. The job they did was bid to take A LOT more time from some other companies I had bid on the job. I will definitely hire them again.

They were professional and worked hard to clean up our yard. We thought they worked quickly and got a lot done. They even went under bushes and trimmed it nicely. Yard looked great after they were done!
Phase 1 of our project was completed 5/16/14. This work included an L-shaped aggregate walkway connecting our front and back yards. Next to the walkway, on the side of the house, they built a stone retaining wall to help with drainage and hold back erosion from the neighboring yard, which is higher than our yard. The back yard portion of the walkway required that irrigation components be relocated. Forest Landscape was the only company from which we received a proposal that could do all aspects of this project, including cement, retaining wall and irrigation. The crew from Forest Landscape was punctual and adequately supervised on-site by their ownership. They were all very courteous and were a pleasure to work with. The project was completed within the agreed timeline. Concerns that developed during the project were addressed immediately and satisfactorily by the ownership. After this phase of our project was completed to our satisfaction, the crew did a nice job cleaning up the project site. The ownership even provided a post-completion, on-site walk-through to insure our complete satisfaction. We now have useable space where it was previously an eyesore. We also now have good drainage. Before, it was always damp and muddy in this area. The retaining wall should help prevent the neighbor's fence from eventually falling into our yard. The entire space looks more inviting! We can't wait to continue with phase two of the project. We highly recommend Forest Landscape!
Description of Work: Forest Landscape came out to our home and discussed with us our plan for our back yard. Ultimately, this will include an L-shaped sidewalk to connect the front side walk with the rear patio, a retaining wall adjacent to the sidewalk, more retaining wall around the perimeter of the yard, and a new lawn and irrigation. The plan can accommodate a multi-phase approach, to match our budget and time line.

They pulled out my plants, even the ones I told them not to pull out. They put landscape bark on top of huge landscape rocks. They put it all over the front. They left before I could get them to clean up all of the other rocks. They also left bark all over the gravel driveway. They made a huge mess.

The finished product is exactly as I had requested as to depth of tread and placement of the steps. Once started it was done in a quick and professional fashion.
Description of Work: Removed gravel and railway tie steps and paths that had deteriorated and replaced with new treated 2x6 wood and gravel. The major part of the project was on a steep slope beside the house, which posed some challenges.
We could not be happier with the ways things went and a huge Thank You to Jose, Rigo and their workers!! They were all very professional, prompt and helpful and I apologize for not getting this review written sooner. They were great in keeping things cleaned up and hauled away throughout the whole process. We would not hesitate to call them again if we have another project.
Description of Work: Forest Landscape Inc replaced our old lawns with new RTF sod. This required removing the old lawns, adding a compost sand mix and leveling the area. After placing the new sod, they edged to the same shape we had previous had. They also replaced one concrete pad in our driveway which had been raised up by tree roots creating a tripping hazard. They then built a small retaining wall using cottage stone between our neighbor's and our driveways (different heights) which turned out beautifully and has received many compliments from neighbors. For both the driveway pad and the retaining wall, they had to chop up a lot of old tree roots. To finish up, they spread new bark dust around our lawns and plants. All of this only took them two days!
