Description of Work: They did a great job on my living room, dining room and hall. We have a lot of high ceilings, which can be tricky but they had no problem and the price was fair. I will likely contact them when it comes time to paint the outside of the house.

Response from Summit Painting
Thank you for the review! I'm glad I was able to earn your business. Please let me know if you have any further issues with your caulking around the windows and doors. I hope it finally stopped developing those air pockets beneath the bead. Thanks again!

First, the estimator responded to my inquiry promptly, and was right on time for our appointment. I explained that my biggest concern was that the badly weathered wood trim on our 14-year-old new construction had never been properly primed; the builder had just had the entire house sprayed (the HardiPlank siding, which is concrete/fiber based and primed at the factory, had held its paint wonderfully). He assured me the wood cornerboards and trim would be hand-scraped, primed, and get two coats of paint brushed on, while the siding would get one heavy coat with the sprayer. Another issue I had was with starlings nesting in our soffit vents, and... fouling our paint. So I bought louvered vent covers and threaded screws into them, with the understanding (with the estimator) that their crew would install them on all vents. (It's difficult or impossible to access them from the attic.) The cost estimate included all that, plus painting of the front and garage doors, and (if I paid my deposit by a certain date), free power-washing for my driveway. The quote might seem high, but I have a hillside house, and the back eaves are probably 45 feet off the ground, and I thought it was a *very* good quote. The project manager called and visited, always when he said he would, and we went over the job details before the crew came. We were all on the same page in regard to the trim painting and vents, which were my greatest concerns. One bump in the beginning was the individual who was supposed to pressure-wash the siding in preparation for painting. He didn't seem to do a thorough job while he was there, and disappeared before the job was done (I was told his wife was about to deliver). The prep crew was great, thorough, polite and dedicated. They left after two days, and the painting crew took over. They, too, were thorough, polite and dedicated. The head of the crew called me directly to tell me he'd gotten sick, and wouldn't be able to come, but that the rest of the crew would continue without him. I have ivy on two sides of my house, and gave the painters permission to trample it as much as they had to do complete the job. Unfortunately, they also trampled some holly trees, and damaged some boxwoods. Not the end of the world, but a shame. It's also unfortunate that they were unable to install all the soffit vent covers (they simply couldn't reach about eight of them with their 30-foot ladders), and the wood trim and cornerboards only got one coat. The crew chief explained that by scraping and priming, then rolling/brushing a heavy coat, I should get many years out of it. Guess I'll know in many years... The first attempt to paint my front door resulted in terrible orange peel, so Summit sent out a more experienced finish painter to sand it down and repaint it. The re-done finish was outstanding. There was never another mention of pressure-washing my driveway, but I own a pressure washer and had just done it early in the spring, so it was easy to let that one slide. Final analysis: Summit did outstanding work on an *extremely* difficult job. The house looks excellent, and the price was *very* reasonable. The crews worked very hard, they did excellent work, and were quite friendly and accessible. I suspect the job was underestimated, and a bit overpromised. But unless I had paid twice what I paid Summit, I wouldn't have complained or forced the issue with them. Trying to think of a good analogy... It's like I paid for a base Accord, but got a base Acura instead. Not a top of the line Acura, but an outstanding value nonetheless. A few weeks ago, they came back to paint my neighbor's house; he's also very happy with their work. I would absolutely recommend you consider Summit. My only caveat would be that you be realistic with your expectations and the estimation process. Even so, they definitely did an outstanding job at a very reasonable price, and were absolutely professional.

I was first contacted by Summit Painting in the summer of 2009 to give me an unsolicited quote to paint the exterior of my home. I knew that my house needed painting but had no idea how much this was going to cost, so I was looking forward to receiving a quote so I could budget for this in the near future. I was immediately impressed with Danny Bailo, who showed up to give me the quote. He explained, in detail, their preparation and painting process and how they would handle some ?problem areas? that they would take care of. He also explained the products they would use and why. But, more importantly, he gave me the confidence that they would do a very professional job. Because we didn't have the money at the time, I filed away their quote. In the spring of 2010, I was ready to have my house painted, but before I committed to Summit, I got 3 additional quotes. No one gave me the confidence that Danny had given me that the job would be done to our satisfaction. Even though Summit wasn't the cheapest quote, I believed that they would do the best job, so they were hired. Summit began painting our house in May of 2010. I was initially concerned that I had bought Danny's enthusiasm and expertise, but that Danny wouldn't be painting our house. Any concerns I had were alleviated once I met the ?lead? painter and on-site manager, Don Washburn. For Don, painting isn't a job, it's a passion. Don's mission was simple: To make my house ?pop? and to do everything possible to more than satisfy my wife and I. During the initial walk-through, it was clear that Danny had communicated to Don my wishes and concerns. Don further explained his process to prep (power wash, scrap, caulk, prime) and paint our house, including how he was going to address areas of the house that had experience intermittent leaks in the past. And during the painting process, Don continued to communicate what they were going to accomplish that day as well as to make sure that what they had accomplished was to our satisfaction. Only time will tell how well this paint job will endure, but I believe that, through Summit's processes and using the best products (ie Sherwin Williams Duration) that they have done the best job possible. Not only does my house look great, but I believe that it is well protected from the wet and windy Oregon winters. And not only did Summit prep and paint the exterior of the house, but they also: Removed several areas of dry rot due to failed caulking, patched and painted it. Cleaned out my gutters while power washing the house. Power washed and treated my driveway with concrete sealer. Cleaned and painted the foundation wall to match the house. In summary, even though Summit probably wasn't the cheapest quote I received, they did the best and most comprehensive job of making my house look great and to protect it from the elements. I feel like I received the best possible job for the money. I highly recommend Summit and enjoyed working with Danny and Don.
Description of Work: Exterior of house: Powerwash, scrap, caulk, removed dry-rot and repaired trim, re-prime and paint. Also, powerwashed and cleaned out gutters, painted the front foundation wall, powerwashed and sealed the driveway.

July 25, 2010 To Whom It May Concern: Danny, the President of Summit Painting was in our neighborhood a couple years ago surveying homes that needed work and offered their services. He informed us that our home could use some painting. Danny was very nice to talk to. He was very informative and knowledgeable about his products and services, his quote to do the work seemed reasonably priced, and he seemed very organized, so we hired them for painting the trim of our home. We were not in the market to have the whole house painted at that time. Danny informed us that he would have his painter get in touch with us soon. James, who was assigned to follow-up with us and to do the painting, phoned us right away to set up an appointment to do the work. When he spoke to me on the phone, he discussed in detail all that he was scheduled to do and when. He was very organized and very professional. He phoned us ahead of time as a reminder before he came. He arrived on time to do the work and asked if I had any questions. He then got right to work. He was very energetic and enthusiastic. When James was done with the initial prep work that first day, he came to the door to let me know that he was done and we scheduled for the next time for him to come and finish the work. At this time, he mentioned other services their company had to offer and although we could have probably enjoyed having the work done, we were not in the market to have it done at that time. He offered to clean our driveway for us. I also had an opportunity to just talk with him for a few moments to get to know him. I learned that he is very dedicated to his job and teammates. He seems to really enjoy what he is doing and does it well. He was very open and easy to talk to. Looking ahead to the next scheduled appointment, James found out that the weather didn?t look good to do the work, so he immediately phoned us to let us know that he was unable to come at that time, so we rescheduled for a day that looked better. He phoned us again, to confirm before coming. When he arrived, he let me know that he was on the job and got right to work. James came to clean, scrape, prime, and paint the trim on our home and did a wonderful job. After James was done with the paint job, he went beyond the call of duty by power washing our drive way and sealing it for free. In today?s world, you don?t get much for free, let alone someone who goes out of their way to care about their work so much and offer such great customer service. He came back as promised to do this extra task when he had spare time to do it, which to be honest with you, I had forgotten about, but he hadn?t. I thought this was a nice gesture on his part. He was able to demonstrate not only another service their company had to offer, but he made an outstanding impression on what a fine young man he is. It was a pleasure to work with him and we will most definitely call him back to do more work when needed. Well, now it had been a couple years later and we were having a master bedroom window replaced and some repairs done to the front facing above our garage. Both were going to be replaced with new siding around them, and since our home was in need of an overall paint job this time, we called Summit back to do the painting. Danny came to go over all the details and give us a quote. We didn?t even bother getting quotes from other companies because we knew what the going rates were from friends who had their homes painted recently and their homes were about the same size as ours. We found their quote to be reasonable and fair, plus we liked their service from the paint job they had done previously. Why would we look around if we already knew that we would get the best service?! Danny met with us to go over some details, pick out some sample colors and he offered other services that might enhance our home further. Danny said that James would be in touch with us soon to get started. Again, James got a hold of us quickly to go over all the details and set things up for his painting crew. It?s always a pleasure working with him! He is so personable, friendly, and cares about his clients. He would drop by throughout the painting stage to check on his crew and ask if we had any concerns or questions. Troy and Jacob were our painters this time. They were great. They were always punctual when they told us that they would be on the job (weather permitting), very clean, were very nice to work with, did a great job on the painting itself, and what impressed us more was the fact that they had taken extra caution so as not to damage any of our landscaping with their tarps or ladders. We were also undecided on a trim color, so Troy painted some extra sample colors around the garage (one on each side of the garage to go with the base color) to see which one we might like better. As soon as the painting was done, James again followed up with us to be sure we were satisfied and all looked good. I would most definitely refer Summit Painting to anyone needing their services, big or small. They are all a wonderful group of people who not only do a great job, but really take pride in their work, have great work ethics, and care about their clients, from beginning to end. Thank you, Summit Painting! We will let you know when we need your service again. Gina & Brett Carn

We had our entire house powerwashed, the house and trim all painted, the roof was demossed, our front and back decks were powerwashed and stained, the wall around our house was powerwashed and painted, front door painted, and the driveway was powerwashed and sealed, and the experience was nothing short than fantastic. Dan and Don of Summit Painting were not only very Professional, but they were both very knowedgeable about the colors that we wanted to use. They were both very personable and extremely friendly. After the bid was excepted we dealt mostly with Don the forman of the crew and he knows his stuff. We had dicussions about contrasting colors, what type of paint to use (we chose a "satin" finish) after talking to Don about the benifits to that finish. Don checked in with us everyday to give us an update on the progress of the job and what was in store for the next day. Don is one of the friendliest and knowedgeable people I have dealt with in having any work done on our home. He was very helpful with the picking of contasting colors for our trim and wall, The whole crew was very friendly and as we observed, they were also vey hard working. Don is what I would call somewhat of a perfectionist, and I mean this in the best way, he inspected every inch of the house after the day was done and would tell us if he was satisfied or not. If he didn't like what he saw, either he would redo it or have one of the crew redo what needed to be done. The guys from Summit Painting were as professional and friendly as any contractors we have used. This was a huge job, the price was right and the work was done professionally and always with a friendly face. I would use the guys from Summit Painting any time, any day, because I too am a perfectionist.
Description of Work: We had noticed the house down the street being painted, there was a sign in our neighbors yard of the painting company that was doing the job. The company was Summit Painting. My wife, Kay, walked down to our neighbors house and asked one of the guys to come down to our house and give us a estimate and a bid to paint our house. Dan and Don of Summit Painting came down the next day and introduced themselves and gave us a description of what they do to the house and how they apply the paint. Dan and Don walked the house and after about a half an hour gave us their bid to paint our house. The scope of work in the bid was to powerwash the entire house, powerwash and stain our front and back decks, our roof needed powerwashed and my wife wanted our front door paiinted so this was added on, we have a 3 foot wall that goes around the house and this was also included in the painting of the house. During the painting of the house, the forman Don came to us and told us about a driveway application that makes the driveway always looks wet, after talking about this we went a head and added this to the job. So to sum up we had the house and trim painted, the wall around our house painted, the roof demossed and our front and back deck powerwashed and stained and our driveway coated with concrete sealer wet look.

We had an estimate given to use from Summit Painting that was less than two other bids we recieved. In addition to the bid being cheaper, they added addition concrete pressure washing and applied protective sealant to the concrete as part of the bid. They stayed in communication throughout the project, and we were competely satified with the work and the experience of the crew and the entire process. We would definately refer them to friends, and we'll definately us them in them in the future,

Very well despite the uncooperative weather. Their price was not the very best but pretty flexible and negotiable.Their workmanship and quality of the job was even better and well worth paying a lot more. They were well skilled, pleasant and hard-working. The managers were in very close communication with us owners to make sure we were all satisfied. I am very happy to have chosen them.

We decided late last year our house exterior would need painting sometime this year. Did not think to use service like Angie's List at the time, but started probably typically like everybody and asking neighbors for recommendations. We got two quotes - Summit Painting plus one other. I was very impressed with how Summit dealt with the request for bid - they sent a live, professional, well organized human being over to my house. They brought with them a list of references, detailed descriptions of the work they would do, and technical data sheets for the Sherwin Williams paint options that we had discussed on the initial phone call. Within about a half hour, I had a written quote in my hands and all my questions answered. There was no pressure - I took 3 days to deliberate over the quote and the one other quote I had received. Before going out for a third quote, I decided Summit's bid exceeded my expectations and I decided to not drag bidding out any further and informed Summit they got the job. About a week and a half before the agreed start date - James called me to start coordinating. We knew up front that this time of year in Oregon, we were at the mercy of mother nature and would have to work around the rain, which refused to be scheduled. He told me first the house would be pressure washed to expect a call from the pressure washer person. Sure enough, within two day, the guy called me in the evening to arrange to pressure wash the house that weekend - Mothers Day as a matter of fact. He showed up promptly and completed the pressure washing. Due to weather, painting could not start for another week. But on the first opening in the weather, I got a call at home in the evening from the painter, letting me know the forecast was favorable and that they would be out in the morning to start. And they showed up on time just as promised. This job proceeded in stages, owing to the weather. Mauricio - the lead painter - was always very good about calling me ahead - I looked forward to my weather report calls :) - and he always came and did what he said he was going to do. It was amazing what Mauricio did in the available weather slots - he made great use of his time. This guy knew what he was doing. It also helped on this job to pick a good paint product. Summit offered the Sherwin Williams line of paint (which is the same paint brand Arbor used when they built the house) and they showed me the Resilience line of Sherwin Williams paint. Resilience is one of the newer paints with Moisture Guard - made for rainy climates. It cures for moisture contact within two hours - perfect for rainy climate outdoor painting. So the painter that knew his business coupled with a good paint ended in a great exterior paint job completed withing a very reasonable time frame considering the weather. I was a little stressed once the job started about the weather and impact to the paint, but Summit made it a very stress free experience. Thank you Summit!!
Description of Work: Summit Painting painted the full exterior of our house, including: 1) complete pressure washing 2) preparation - scraping, caulking, covering windows, etc. 3) the actual painting, including gutters, siding, trim, board & bat, front door, garage door. 4) final walk-through, customer review, any spot (minor) touchups. Note: we have two story, typical Arbor Custom Home neighborhood, i.e., houses close together, about 2300 sq ft house. House was built in 2003. This is the first exterior paint job since the original builder paint job. We kept the original colors to adhere to HOA requirements for color scheme, etc. Work included one 'challenging' side of the house due to tightness of space (only about six feet from house to fence), and dense landscaping along that side. The work was performed within the agreed to estimated time window (a two week window), even considering the bad weather. Not bad.

Last summer we decided that we needed the exterior of our home painted. I got three bids from painting contractors, and Summit Painting was by far the "most bang for our buck". I was a bit leary going with the low bid, but they provided me the name and address of a previous client in my neighborhood and I went to go see their work first hand. They did a good job on my neighbor's house, so we went ahead and hired them for our project. The administration of Summit is very well organized; they have one person who does the bids/contracts, one person who manages the project, and a whole team of painters. Summit was patient with us while we chose our colors. Once we proceeded with the project, the painting crew was very polite and easy to work with. They were carful to tape around outside speakers and our brick patio. They used a spray painter for the siding which provided a very even finish (prior to painting, they powerwashed the entire house too) and hand painted the trim. I come home everyday and really like the look of my house and am so happy that we decided to use Summit Painting. This spring, we recarpeted our house, and before we did that, we wanted to repaint a couple of our rooms. I didn't call for bids, I just went right to Summit! Their bid was reasonable, and they were very flexible to the carpeting schedule so we could get our rooms painted BEFORE the carpet was installed. We ended up getting the same lead painter from our exterior project last summer, and he was great! After the project was complete, we did the walk through. I pointed out a few areas and they were immediately fixed. After they left, I found another area that I missed during the walk through. I called Summit and they were very prompt to send the same painter out to fix the area that I was not happy with. The painter came out, fixed the area, didn't complain or act defensive - they are very professional, and in the end want you to be 100% satisfied with the work. This is a fabulous attitude, as it has guaranteed my repeat business!!! Summit uses Sherwin Williams paint (very good quality), and for the interior work this spring, they chose a special low VOC paint because I have small children. I would highly recommend Summit for both interior and exterior painting!
Description of Work: I have used Summit Painting two times in the past year - once last summer for exterior painting, and once this spring for interior painting. Summit did a two-coat exterior paint job using a sprayer for the siding and brush for the trim. They also painted my front door. When they painted the door, they took it off it's hinges and took it into a sealed plastic area to paint; the finish was flawless. This spring, Summit painted my family room and kitchen. Two coats on the walls, and two coats on the trim. Where the color changes between rooms is on a rounded corner and the line is so straight, it's amazing!
