The two men arrived on time and completed the job in 1.5 hours. I was very pleased with their polite attitude and with the thorough job they did. They were careful not to move certain pieces of furniture as instructed, and they voluntarily moved some furniture for me, saying that was part of their job. I was very pleased. I would hire them again.
Description of Work: Two men arrived as scheduled to clean 4 areas of carpet. The check was paid to DC Cleaning, their parent company. I paid $80 in addition to the $99 deal to have them clean the stairs and an area rug. The men were very polite and efficient. Job was completed in an hour and 1/2.

My experience started out a bit rocky, but ended up great. The first time that they sent our a crew, they did only a part of the job. I called Matt's back and he sent out a new crew and they did a fantastic job!

The technicians were on time, professionally dressed with shirts that identified the company they represented. They were extremely polite and professional. We had already moved big items out of the way, like table chairs, a coffee table, ottomon, etc so that the cleaners could get to as much carpet as possible, but they moved some items themselves to clean the areas. They explained their procedure and told us what they were doing, and when they were doing each room. I had attempted to clean a stubborn spot of vomit on the carpet myself and actually ruined the carpet in that area. They suggested that in the future I wait on the cleaners because they could have probably treated the stain and gotten it out without me ruinng the carpet. I appreciated the advice. They cleaned up after themselves and left my home the way they found it. The carpet was cleaned beautifully, with extra attention given to traffic areas. I would definately use them again.
Description of Work: The offer was for four rooms of carpet cleaning, not including stairs. I had the living room, dining room, master bedroom, and upstairs hallway cleaned. The stairs were an additonal $2 per stair, so 26 stairs would cost and additional 52.00. I opted out from getting the stairs done this time, but the price is acceptable in the future.

We bought a Big Deal from Angie's list for 4 hours of drywall service from Matt's Home Improvements. The appointment was scheduled for within 10 days of when we called. The repairman arrived on time with a friendly and professional greeting. We showed them what we wanted done and he quickly got to work. He answered all the questions we had as he worked. The job was completed within the alloted time. We inspected the repairs before the repairman left and they looked great. The next day, after drying completely, everything looks like new. Perfect! The repairman also gave us an estimate we requested for additional work.

Bought 4 hours of masonry work for $99 from Angie's List in August. Scheduled work for October. Matt showed up on schedule and performed requested work very well. Cleaned up after himself so no debris was left on site. I had him quote another job that I want to have done in the spring. Happy with his service and glad to know a reliable source for this type of work in the future.
Description of Work: Repaired chipped, missing, damaged mortar on exterior of brick home. Very happy with results and professionalism. Even cleaned up after finishing! No debris left in yard. Very nice man. Would use this service again.

I was impressed at how well Matt paid attention to detail. Not only did he clean up the space under each step (my original concern) but he put mortar on the top and sides of the steps where the steps meet the house, where there wasn't mortar before. The joints all looked good and clean and so far, 2 weeks later, everything is tight. My one tiny complaint is that he charged $10 for material on top of the work he did. Now, this is actually what I agreed to - the Big Deal stipulates that you pay for material. However the Big Deal also said I got 4 hours of masonry work for $99 but the job only took about 90 minutes. I was hoping Matt would cut me some slack and waive the materials fee but no such luck. This is my second Big Deal and so far I'm not that impressed with the pricing.
Description of Work: I got a Big Deal for $99 for 4 hours of masonry work. I didn't need 4 hours of work done but it seemed like a fair deal to me anyway. Matt came and tuck pointed my front steps and fixed a corner piece which had fallen off.

My appointment was at 9:00, but I got a call from Matt saying that he was running late, and that his arrival would be about an hour and a half later than originally scheduled. Once the crew arrived, Matt and his helper did exactly what I had requested. Extra care was needed at the edges of the walls/baseboards because my house is really old, and none of its areas are level or straight. They did a great job. The guys were polite and cleaned up after themselves. I would most definitely use Matt's services again!

He arrived late. He indicated that if I wanted the small entryway (with closet doors in natural wood that were not painted and various other doors/entryways off of it that also were not painted) AND the walls of the stairway leading off of it painted, it would be an extra $100. I thought that was silly as this room by itself was tiny. When I said that if I had known that I would have had him paint the master bedroom, he said there was a size limit to the room. This was an Angie's :ost "Big Deal" and the coupon said nothing about a limit on the room size. He then informed me that he also would charge extra for the tiny little cutout area we have for washing off dirty boots, etc. (a "puppy shower") because it was considered a "closet" even though there was no door. I thought that was completely outrageous!! I tried to be nice, but he was simply not very friendly and seemed to make up the rules as he went along.

Matt sent over a couple of guys clean my carpets. They were very nice and seemed professional. Everything went fine. I assumed that they were able to get all the stains out that I pointed out. I paid extra for the "Deep Cleaning" service and they never said otherwise. The problem started about an hour after the cleaners left. The carpet in the living room started to ripple an buckle everywhere. I call the number on the receipt and told the guy that did the cleaning what was happening. He insisted that my carpet was already like that. I said it wasn't and that I had before and after pictures to prove it. He said he would call me in the morning and come look at it. He never did. I was upset that I might need to take sue Matt's company so I decided to do some research online. It turns out the rippling is a fairly common problem and the carpet usually flattens out after a day or two. My carpet did eventually flatten out. Obviously an expert carpet cleaner should know about this problem and would not try to deny there is a problem. On top of everything else none of the stains came out.I can not recommend Matt's home improvements to clean carpets.

Initial contact was ignored, but Angie's facilitated a second contact. My expectation was that a small bedroom could be finished in one full work day, but when he arrived, he said that he could only give me four hours. He then had to leave my house and go to Home Depot for supplies (e.g., something to cover the floor) but I do not recall how long he was gone. I had purchased the paint and prepped most of the room myself beforehand. There was no furniture to move. His work took a total of three days to complete - he was on the phone a lot which contributed to the delays. Quality of painting: marginal. Quality of covering flaws and holes: very good. Unfortunately, the paper product he used to cover the carpeting was not tacked down and paint spotted the carpeting all around the room and the closet. Arslanian Brothers was called but the paint spots and streaks could not be removed, so I did not pay him the additional money he asked for.

Matt did a good job on this project. He was professional and was clearly knowledgeable of what needed to be done. He took the time to answer questions I had and made sure I was comfortable with what he was doing. I began using the $99 for 4 hours work deal but the job proved to be somewhat larger. That was a little disappointing but Matt's expertise showed me that it was worth the money. In the end, I was happy with the results and would highly recommend Matt.

It took literally five months to get the work done (first contacted Mr. McCuller in early April, some work finally got done in late August). On several occasions, instead of doing the work, Mr. McCuller came out to look at it, often late, and instead of actually doing the work, agreed to come back to actually do it at another time. I only get 6 days off work per year and I spent at least 1 1/2 of those dealing with missed or very late appointments. This is not acceptable to me. On the day most of the work was finally done, Mr. McCuller arrived seven (7) hours late. This is not acceptable to me. The biggest single cost item was to repair a wooden porch which had some beams that were too close together, causing a bulge, and repairing some rotted planks on the porch. This was quoted for $425. For this money I had expected and asked for a complete repair, but all Mr. McCuller did was to remove a plank and press two others together, which I could have done myself. It took him no more than an hour. He agreed on several occasions afterward to replace the rotted planks next time he came out, but as of this morning (October 1, more than 5 weeks later) he had not done so. I might have overlooked the other very negative aspects of our experience, but failing to complete work already paid for is not acceptable to me. In the process of installing a handrail, he cut several sizeable holes in the plaster wall to try to find studs to mount it on. Although he did repair the damage to the wall, he did not repaint over that damage as agreed. At least one of those holes was not necessary because a child safety gate was already mounted in one of the studs, thus identifying its location. Some drywall repair that was to have been done on that day ended up being postponed by several weeks. It was done by one of his subcontractors, who apparently was told the wrong time to arrive (I had told Mr. McCuller we would be available after 4pm, but the subcontractor showed up at 11am just as my wife was getting ready to leave). To his credit he did show up again at 4pm and did complete the work we discussed, except that, again, the repaired surface was not painted afterward as Matt agreed it would be. (Not a big deal . . I can do the painting myself . . . but then I could have done the repair myself as well; my reason for hiring a contractor was to have it done professionally and completely, which unfortunately did not happen). The drywall and handrail work were done competently, except as noted above. The porch work unfortunately was not. When dealing with home repairs and improvements I expect appointments to be kept, for the work performed to match the work promised, for promises to be kept even if not written down, and for the work to be done professionally (e.g., to be completely finished, unless it is agreed up front that it wouldn't be) and in a timely fashion. I am sorry to say that although Mr. McCuller seemed like a nice and reasonable gentleman, and I'm sure he is capable of doing excellent work as many other reviews will attest, he did not come close to meeting these expectations in our case. The failure to paint otherwise completed surfaces was not a big deal to me, but the constant delays, missed or late appointments, and most especially failure to complete repairs on the porch, were all unacceptable. As a result I regret that I will not be working with Mr. McCuller again.
Description of Work: I originally contacted Matt's Home Improvements to do a number of smallish repair jobs around the house including installing a new handrail, fixing wood porch, fixing a toilet that appeared to be leaking sewer gas, and fixing some drywall.

By far the worst contractor I have ever used. Very unorganized and unresponsive. We left 4 voicemails on answering machine over 3 weeks to set-up a time to have contractor come out and look at the 2 rooms we wanted painted. Contractor came out and my wife showed the contrcator the 2 rooms we wanted to have painted: 1.) a second-story hallway / staircase and basement. Contractor wrote on the back of his card what he needed for hallway (2 gallons of paint and 1 gallon of ceiling paint). We already had the paint for the basement. He said to use his account to get a discount. We purchased the paint and scheduled the service for a Saturday morning 9 AM. Contractor said he was coming from East Side and may be a few minutes late based on traffic conditions. Received a call at 10:30 am to very that we were "still on" for that day. I toldhim I planned on him being there and that we were still on. He arrived at 1 pm and had no recollection of ever being at our house. I showed the contractor the 2 areas that he had already seen and then he says that we need primer for the hallway and that he would not do the staircase becuase it was not allowed per the certificate. I asked him why he did not mention it before and he said he thought he did - even though he listed out what paint was needed and said it would not be an issue. He then says it would cost an additional $400 to do the staircase and would only take cash. I then showed the contractor to the basement and he said that it was too big (even though it was 80% already painted by me) and that it would cost an additional $300 cash to finish. I said no to both and said that if he finished the trim and the basement stairs we would call it even. He painted part of the trim (using my paint, rollers and my painting tape) and even spilled paint on my rug. He painted for 45 minutes and then said that he had to leave but would be back at 9am then next morning to finish painting and do the stairs. "Same time" he said. At 3pm on Sunday and no call / no show (and I left 4 voicemails) I told him that I was filing a complaint and wanted my money back. Angie' List gave me my money back and were very polite to work with. I should have read the other reviews as apparently I was not the only person that went through the same ordeal with this contractor.

The appointment was scheduled for Jan 16 several weeks in advance. The appointment time was 10:00 AM. At 11:00 AM on Jan 16 I received a call from the contractor inquiring if I still wanted him to come and perform the service on that day. I said "yes" and he showed up within the next hour. I purchased a special through Angie's List: 2 hours for $99.00 I have applied caulk several times before myself and I do a good job, but just can?t stand doing it. I scheduled him to caulk around two vanities (one 30 inch and the other 84 inch), around a Jacuzzi tub, a marble panel shower stall (caulking needed in every corner) and a sliding glass door. Caulking had never been applied around the sliding glass door before so it was already prepped. I asked him how long it would take and he specified it would take the full two hours. When reviewing the job, I specified what color caulk to use in each area (either white or bisque). I also pointed out specific areas in the shower to make sure to caulk. I had made the job easy for him in removing the caulk from the entire shower and 84 inch vanity. I also thoroughly cleaned all areas. He had started to apply the incorrect color caulk around the sliding glass door. I was in the room at the time so I was able to stop him quickly. He had not applied caulk to the special areas in the shower I pointed out earlier, but did so when I notified him during the final walkthrough. When examining the shower during the final walkthrough, the caulk applied was already shrinking and a full seal had not formed. Rather than have him fix it I opted to do it myself. I also did not bother telling him because at that point my faith in his services was gone. I had to properly reapply the caulk around the shower after her left. Ten months later there has been no shrinking of the caulk I applied. In addition, before applying new caulk around the Jacuzzi tub and the 30 inch vanity, he had not removed the old caulk first. I knew this because I removed small areas of the new caulk after he left when I had to do some additional work. The shower stall is the most difficult area to caulk, and it takes me 10 minutes. That being said, the total job he did should not have taken more than an hour, especially since he did none of the prep work. I can?t help but suspect that even if I had asked him to do less work, he would have still taken the full two hours.
