Matt’s Home Improvements

This company arrived on time. They were pleasant and friendly. There was no difference in the appearance of the carpets after the job was done and the carpet dried. The drying time was less than 24 hours. There were no stains on the carpet before they cleaned it. Areas of heavy foot travel (entrance to the rooms) were a little dirtier before cleaning than the rest of the carpet in the rooms. None of the carpets had soiling, and are all either beige, light gray or berber. Areas below two loveseats in the family room were darker from wearing of footwear. All darker areas remained after the carpet dried. I would not use this company again. They also put a type of clear thin plastic under some furniture legs, which seems to have a bit of adhesive and were a little difficult to remove.

Stains did not come out of carpet and actually looked worse after it dried. Experience with other carpet cleaners were that these types of stains normally are not an issue to remove. The work appears to have been sublet to another company. Although they were prompt, I would not consider using them again.

The job was not professionally done. Work was very sporadic and unreliable. I would not recommend Matt to anyone ever for anything as I know Matt offers other services.

I am requesting a refund for the deal as I have experienced difficult in connecting with the company which has led me to lose faith in them. We purchased the deal in December but decided to wait until after the Holidays to schedule an appointment. Once we contacted them to schedule it took about two weeks to get an appointment scheduled. I was then unable to keep the scheduled appointment so I contacted them to reschedule and I am yet to hear back from them. I gave them a week to contact me back to reschedule and they never did so I am canceling the deal. I believe the deal was contracted out to a company by the name of DC Cleaning.

At first I did have difficulty scheduling the service with the owner, and when I did schedule there was a mix up with the time. When all of that worked out, they guy who did my plaster was great. Instead of two people it was one, but he gave me around four hours which was what the deal was for. I showed him several other areas of the house where I may need plaster work, and he gave me a time estimate on those, volunteered to work over the four hours to do one of the areas that day, but I didn't have the time. I plan on buying the coupon again if the deal is offered.

I probably had more rugs cleaned than I had planned on and there spent more than expected.

Was very happy until just last month when the Buyer's agent inspector our chimney that Matt Touched up and the job and evidently didn't pass. I had not been at thorough as the inspector and missed that Matt had not even touched the back of my Chimney. Now, I'm spending more money to fix with someone that is more reliable. When I used Matt he had all A's on Angies list!

After paying $99 for the Bid Deal, I called for 2-3 weeks before finally connecting with Matt. He came to the house and went over the job. He figured one man could do it within the 4-hour time period. A worker came out and worked hard for 3 1/2 hours and left. In going over the work after the joint compound had dried, I found whole areas that had been missed entirely (areas I had pointed out to him,) and those areas that were done were not sanded, but smoothed with a wet sponge, leaving a lot of elevated spots that still need to be sanded down before it can be painted. I should have watched him more closely. I tried to reach the company a couple of times, was not successful, read other marginal reviews, and decided to forget it.

I had purchased a Big Deal coupon from Matt's Home Improvements last year. Although the coupon had expired, Matt still scheduled a time for them to come out and do the two small patches I needed. The service had to be rescheduled, due to another project running over, but they were proactive about rescheduling and making sure I knew. On the day of the work, they were on time, provided the materials, were respectful of my home and completed the task quickly. Very pleased with the results. On aspect was a tricky hole created in my basement ceiling due to some pluming work. There were old screws to be removed and some tight cutting needed to fit around my pipes. They were able to make all of that work.

It was somewhat difficult to schedule an appointment and the day of the appointment, I ended up running a bit late and I had a very hard time reaching them with the phone numbers I had. When I arrived home I found a note on my door saying they arrived and left and to reschedule. When I did reach them again we rescheduled for later in the week. He ended up calling me and explained that they were having issues with their truck and would have to come later in the afternoon, which he ended up coming an hour after expected.

No show for the appointment.

When they arrived, the main serviceman introduced himself and his partner. They talked to me for a short time, to determine exactly what I wanted. They worked together very well, and were both thorough and efficient at the same time. I was impressed with their professional, but kind demeanor.

it went well. whenever I have services needed, I consult Angie for providers. I have not been disappointed yet.

Two technicians arrived on time. They used OUR COLD garage water faucet for their water supply-supposedly the machine would heat it up, although I saw no "steam" during the process. Only ONE swipe of the vacuum on each strip of carpet--not back and forth. No extra care for extra traffic areas. We had prepared the areas ahead of time and had most furniture moved to a back bedroom-very little moving of furniture on their part. A noticeable dirtier area around a removed throw carpet - I if they could go over it again-"this carpet is just old" was the response. NO plastic or foam protectors put under our remaining furniture to protect from damp carpet. Deodorizing consisted of a spray can after the carpet was finished.-I told them to stop. (I can febreeze myself) by this time I was very upset with the entire job. We would not use this service again, nor could I recommend it. I went through Angie's list thinking I would have quality workmanship. I will use my usual carpet cleaning service from now on.

I had a very bad experience with both Matt's Home Improvement and the Angie's List customer service department who told me they would look into the matter and advise me as to the status of the service after contacting Matt's Home Improvement.

Services exactly as described, no extras, no surprises.

I bought an Angie's List "deal" -- 4 rooms of carpet cleaning w/ stain treatment & deodorizing for $99...only to find out that it was an either/or situation. I had agreed at the onset to pay them to clean our sofa & love seat as well. Once the carpet cleaner arrived, they up-charged me to do stairs & hallway: The hallway was going to be the 4th room, but evidently that didn't count as a room...so I paid more. (We had guests coming for the weekend, so I needed to stick with them once they had arrived.) THEN they up-charged me to do a better job of de-odorizing, which made sense at the time. THEN they talked me into deep cleaning -- another up-charge. Again, it sounded like a good idea! By the time they walked out the door, I had paid $400 for what normally costs me well under $300. The kicker was that they left the carpet super wet. It took 3+ days to dry out completely! And the stains they supposedly removed popped up again as soon as the carpets dried. The "deodorizer" they used smelled horrible -- very embarrassing for our guests! Now I need to contact our regular carpet cleaner (Service Master by Corbett in Fairlawn (Akron OH) to address the stains & smell the "carpet cleaners" left behind. Double-dog disappointing!

It was a good value and kept pretty close to the price. They were very professional and efficient. We were pleased with both the work and the value. He did a nice job--you couldn’t even tell that the ceiling had been repaired!

They arrived well within the time frame promised. They did the work very well and I am completely satisfied with the results. The two workers were very professional, yet friendly.

I bought an Angie's Big Deal offered by this outfit last February. I needed my chimney point/tucked. After I contacted Matt suggested to me that the service required warmer weather and so I should wait a month or two until it got warmer. I agreed and I waited more than several months and I then contacted Matt and suggested that if he did not want to perform the service I should get a refund. He said a refund was unnecessary and that he would send someone out shortly. Several weeks later a gentleman showed up, took a look at the work that needed done, and told me he would be back later in the week or next week. When the man did not show up I suggested to Matt that instead of the masonry work he could substitute an equal amount by painting a room in a house I had just purchased. I made the suggestion because the weather was again turnining colder, it then being late fall. No reply. No substitute work. No refund.

As stated above: both contractor and I lost touch (more his fault than mine; was on ladder when calling.. would get back to me.. etc). However, I'm confident work will be perfomed as expected. I'm hoping the option exists that I can come back and update this post. Again, because he has been cooperative and apologetic I would consider using this vendor again.

The service was performed professionally and very well. The mason was friendly and polite and listened to my description of the problem He told me what he planned to do and asked if this met w my expectations. He removed the broken bricks , removed the dirt impinging upon the site , used new bricks and mortared them. He cleaned up after himself.

OK, but they were supposed to come back and finish a second window well to complete the fours of masonry work I paid for and never did. Also, they left the old brick strewn around and did not clean up very well.

Very disappointed! Angies did refund the amount paid for deal.
