At first I thought that he was going to be a good finish carpenter, but quickly learned that he was more concerned about the money he got versus the work that needed to be done. He actually wanted more than the original $12,500 to finish the job that he dilly-dallied through in order to get more money. I now have to hire another finish carpenter to finish what he was supposed to do at a greater expense to me, not even considering the job has been set back at least 2 more weeks because of his lack of professionalism. Do not hire this man unless you pay him hourly and supervise him because he will take advantage if you don't watch him like a hawk. Unfortunately, I was too nice and trusting with a man that professed to be such a good Christian! He will rip you off if you don't pay total attention to his work. He got me, don't let him get you!
Description of Work: We had a verbal agreement for him to rip out the floors, remove the MB vanity and shower stall, remove all doors and widen, remove all base molding, install an arch between the dinette and great room, spackle walls where there were electrical outlets in walls, remove half wall between dinette/great room. He was also to install all the new flooring, new doors, install all ther new base and crown molding, install the cabinets that were ordered form another contractor. I paid hime $2.5K towrds what was to be a 5-week job for a total of $12,500. From my neighbors, well as othre contractors, they noticed that in the first 3 weeks that he did not even put in 8 hours per day. I panickedf by the endf of the third week since the flooring had not been installed. He blamed the fact that the fireplace was not installed and grumbled that the deal was based on the purchase of a floating laminate floor and that putting in the hardwood created a great hardship of him. During the first 2 weeks, demolition and molding removal, as well as doors bing removed and also widened After he realized that there was now hardwood instead of a floating laminate floor, he said that he needed more money. I had given him $1,000 for materials that he may have needed and after 3 requests, finally recieved the receipts for purchases he made. I was astonished to find that he had purchased a scraper to remove the vinyl floor, as well as replacement blades, knee pads, a respirator filter, trowels and knives needed for drywall, goggles for debris, and even a $1.69 cherry coke! He was told that that was not part of the deal but never refunded me those charges. In fact out of about $643.00 of receipts, only $100.00 was actually legitimate. He also requested that I pay him by check on Thursday evenings so that he had the money in his account on Friday! I have been more than generous with this contractor and he took complete advantage of me. He was advised at the end of the 4th week to pack up his gear after finishing installing the remaining wood floor. Instead, he never installed the balance of the flooring and basically took the money and ran. After consuling 3 contractors, they said he should've been way further along and would be near completion if he had worked as he said he worked. Basically, he only did approx. $5,000 worth of work and received $8000 (includes the $1,000 for materials) and was extremely overpaid and still was adamantly insistant that I owed him more money! I also paid for the dumpster, his bond and permit to work in the City of Avon too. He made absolutely no attempt to resolve my dissatisfaction and felt that he was UNDERPAID which is a joke! On Monday morning (4/8/13) he had already removed his tools from the job site and made a "courtesy" call to me to say he was not finishing the job as requested and that all his stuff had been removed from the job site. I told him it was NOT a courtesy call but an afterthought since I already knew he had removed his tools. After much conversation about how "hard" this job was and lots of lip service, he finally hung up on me when all I wanted was to get my money's worth. I would NEVER recommend this guy to do any job - even his previous reference to work for me had stated that he would never hire him for another job again because he was so embarrassed about Dan Biltz's work ethic and basic greediness. I was advised that he had done this before but was kept in check by the general contractor on jobs, but when he directly was hired by others he really dragged the work out in order to get more money. Never hire this man - he is a total rip-off under the guise of being a good Christian!
