"I wish we would have met your expectations. Our landscape maintenance contract included 3 visits plus weekly mowing. The spring clean up, the summer revitalization and the fall clean up. In hindsight we should have had additional monthly visits in your contract in order to maintain your grounds more often, not just the three visits. We only missed 2 mowing's throughout the year that were in the heat of the summer and we had a couple double cuts in the wet, spring season. Again, I wish we would have met your expectations."
Is an excellent landscape designer (we used this service several times to design and install a significant amount of our landscaping) but once into maintenance mode, less happy. Often came home to find the crew had done things that were quite unexpected. For example, minor pruning had turned into a wholesale savaging of major trees (white pines) which had been put in for privacy many years earlier. The privacy screen we had grown turned into no privacy as the trees were limbed up well above my head. Specialty Japanese maples, specialty holly plants, and some other specialty trees had been pruned severely in a style neither my wife nor I enjoy. Our complaint seemed to be mostly brushed aside as minor.
The crew was also quite careless in muddy weather and caused significant damage to other parts of the landscaping by driving heavy equipment through muddy areas. Repair was sloppy and I wound up redoing myself.
There were other minor disagreements as well over how specific things were done. I may be picky about things which would not matter in most cases, but for the above reasons, we will not use again
"[member name removed], I wish I had seen your review sooner, and I am sorry you were not satisfied with the landscaping. The plant size we used are the size we typically use for all jobs and we don't get complaints regarding sizes. The boxwoods are 15" balled and burlap shrubs and is a good typical size for new boxwoods. We also plant the boxwoods to a height that they are grown in the field, then mulch over the top of the burlap. We used 24 yards of topsoil to prep the beds, so I don't understand the bed prep comments. There were 2 sweetbay magnolia tress that were not as developed as I hoped. I looked at other nursery sources and could not locate any fuller magnolias at the time. They were the size we spec in. Lastly, we did credit $1280 for the area that was not cleared and weeded off the final invoice because that work was not performed. Thank you."
After they finished, I found out the pavers were one inch BELOW the bottom of the wall base. I asked them to redo it and bring it to one inch ABOVE as specified in the contract. They redid it but only brought the pavers to be flushed with the bottom of the wall base. In other words, the repaved patio is still lower than the flower bed, back to square one.
Not only that, there is a 3/4'' gap between the wall base and the pavers. Instead of filling the gap with some sealant, they just covered it with some loose sand. The very next day, the sand sank--the very same reason why I had a sunken patio in the first place. I made repeated requests for the owner to come back to fix the problem, but he never did.
"Hello Member, I'm sorry you feel this way. I will seal the gap better at the house, the polymeric sealer we used should have locked that tight, I will use a better product to seal this gap. As far as being 1 inch above or on the wall, we discussed Not doing that on site because we had to meet the existing pavers by the door threshold, those pavers are at the base of the wall, not 1 inch up on the wall. Also we could not install the window well any higher on the house, and the pavers needed to be at the top of the window well and they are. We also shot the grade at the bottom of the siding to make sure we were draining away from the house and it was. With those factors we concluded on site not to put pavers up on the siding. We all discussed this on site and agreed. The water is obviously draining away from the house if it is being stopped by the bed and the sand at the house is not wet. We said if we need to cut the bed down some we would between the shrubs to help the water drain to the lawn if need be. We would not know if the was an issue until it was tested by enough rain. We ran the hose to simulate a rainfall and the water was running away from the house well and did not see a problem at the bed. I'd be happy to grade the bed out for you to help the water drain. As far as the schedule, we got rain almost everyday we were trying to start you job, it's been very, very wet, the ground is saturated and the days we did not show up were days that rained or rained hard the day before. We state in our contact that the site must be dry enough to work effectively and if was not. I did not know you were taking off work these days until you told me on site when we started. And I apologize, but I cannot control the weather and we could not have worked those days because of all the rain. As I said we will seal the gap better and grade the bed between the shrubs. Thank you. Steve"
