Went great. Originally contacted in June/July and was told they couldn't get us in until October, which was not an issue for us. Contacted them again in early October and they had us on their schedule and were prompt and professional.

Very unprofessional.
Description of Work: I contacted Plant Masonry and told them I was having issues with the stone front of my house (water was coming in front windows below the stone). He said he would come out and take a look and let me know what he found. I never heard anything. I called again and left my address and phone number and still never heard anything.

I called 3 different local brick masons to work on my deteriorating front steps that were 25 years old. The bricks were cracking and peeling and the grout was coming loose. 2 of the brick masons (Michael Kraner and AllPro Services) never had the courtesy to call me back. Jody texted me within 24 hours and came out to the house the following day. He surveyed the situation and gave me a quote to replace the steps. His son and crew started the project the very next day and finished in 2 days, even working in a light rain. Jody, his son, Jerry, and the other 2 crew members were very professional and did an outstanding job. Their main concern was that my wife and I were satisfied with the job. They did a great job of matching the brick to the house. Our front steps look tremendously better and you can tell they did a quality job. I was impressed with all the time they took to make sure everything was level and looked good. I would say that this is the best contractor I have ever worked with. We thought for the work they did, the price was very reasonable. We definitely would hire them again and highly recommend them.

They performed the work quickly and did it well. The inside work was cosmetic - we wanted to replace the stone on the fireplace wall with some tile and a surround. We did the tile and finish work ourselves, but hired Plant Masonry to remove the old stone. Jody made a recommendation to decrease the size of the fireplace opening, because he thought the existing opening size was overwhelmingly large for the room size. We had not considered this, but agreed with his recommendation. This turned out to be a good modification that made it easier for us to design a tile and surround configuration that looked good in the room. The outside work was to replace deteriorating mortar that was about 60 years old. They did that very efficiently. The appearance of the new mortar is good -it was applied and tooled correctly.
Description of Work: Removed stone fireplace facing inside house and did brick work inside firebox. Removed old mortar and tuck pointed chimney.

I called Jody Plant and they sent their son over to estimate what it would cost to rebuild the fireplace. They promptly provide me with an estimate which was similar to all the other estimates that I got. I sent them a e-Mail asking if there was any way they could lower the price and they told me they would reduce the price by $500.00 if they could work on a day that they could not work outside and if they could use bricks that they already had. I agreed and we set up the job on the Friday after Thanksgiving. That day worked out perfectly for Mr. Plant and myself. They arrived exactly on time to do the work and they had the complete job accomplished in 4 hours. They showed me flaws in the work that the original contractors did when they built the mantel. They did a great job and they cleaned everything up once they were finished. We definately would use this provider again.
Description of Work: Our Firplace brick mantel had separated from the wall and firebox of the fireplace creating a space that could potentially allow high heat to reach the wood in the walls of our home. They tore out the old mantel and built a new one. The new mantel looks great!

We replaced the old brick with new brick above the chimney line. Everything was brand new when Jody took over. He parged (stucco) the crumbling brick below the roof line. He cleared the flaking brick below and matched the old brick with the new brick above the roof line. Then he put on the new chimney cap or crown. That is where the damage is. And now my roof is leaking. I couldn't find the bill to get a hold of him. It took me all summer to find it. When I did, I called him and then he called me back a month later. He left a message and said he would come look at it. I waited a month and called him back. I've called since then and no response.
Description of Work: He parged the chimney from the ceiling second floor to the chimney cap. Then he put on the chimney cap.

The new chimney cap had nothing to do with the roof leaking, as I tried to explain to Kathryn. It only keeps rain from going down the middle of the chimney. There is nothing that we worked on that would have caused the roof to leak.

Everything was done in one day, except the spraying of waterproofing sealant. It is a small company, so overhead costs are low, which is something I usually look to find. His crew was mostly family members. During the project, I asked him to look at two loose bricks on the inside fireplace. He checked them, and then proceeded to install them with new mortar. And there was no added charge, even thought that was not in the initial estimate to me. He totally replaced my son's chimney and that is why I had him do my chimney maintenance.
Description of Work: CHIMNEY MAINTENANCE: Replaced a few chipped bricks, filled masonry holes and gaps on entire chimney, and replaced all the mortar on the top and sides steps of the chimney. Then a day later when mortar had dried sprayed the whole chimney with commercial sealant.

http://plantmasonry.com/ Every thing was excellent. The price was less than half many estimates my son had received. In fact some companies wanted three times more to do the same work. It saves money to find a smaller company like Plant Masonry since their overhead cost are much lower. Everything was beautifully done and we have 100% satisfaction. Jody's patience was outstanding, with the Gahanna City Inspectors. The inspectors were not very good about checking the project and Jody had to waste a lot of time between work days for the inspectors to come back and approve each stage of construction. Jody had to come back numerous times to finish the project, because of the city inspectors poor response times. I am sure Jody did not include so many trips in the price estimate, but there was no added charge. His web page is plantmasonry.com and the phone is (614) 571-1131 ... Not sure if that information was in the Angie's listing.
Description of Work: COMPLETELY REPLACE BRICK CHIMNEY AT MY SON'S HOME: He tore down the old chimney, completely, dug deeper trench around the base, and then built a new chimney. The old chimney was beginning to lean and the only way to fix it was replacement and doing it correctly. I also had them do maintenance on my home that I put into a second review.
