Description of Work: We purchased Generac whole house stand-by generator and yearly maintenance agreement through Lowes in Heath, Ohio. Lowes did not inspect the installation site either before, during or after sub contractor's work. Gas lines were installed out of plumb or level. Interior wire was not fully supported with cable ties. We did not complain to Lowes or the sub contractor. About 6 months later, under full power when the electric service was off and our whole house generator was operating, our lights flickered. We complained to Lowes and a person from the sub contractor Precision Power) appeared to adjust generator. We would have to wait until the next electrical outage to confirm repaired. About a year later on the next outage, we discovered lights still flickered unless we reduced electric usage. We decided the system was undersized and did not not pursue again with Lowes or the sub contractor Additionally, about a year after the initial installation and no one showing up per our agreement with Precision Power for the yearly maintenance, we called the sub contractor. We were given excuses and after about the second or third additional call and almost 2 years after the install an inexperienced person showed up. He did not have the standard key in open the enclosure and mentioned he had not worked on this large of a generator before. We let him use our standard key to open the enclosure. Then he discovered his socket set was missing sockets. I loaned him my sockets. I helped him determine how to service our generator and made sure he really changed the oil and filter. Aftter he left we decided that would be the last time we ever use Precision Power. Then 4 months ago, during another outage and while the house under generator power, random light circuits would grow dim or get bright over about a 2 day period. We would use extension cords to find electrical outlets with full power and even then we were having to move to extension cords the stay on the circuits with the most power. After our power was back on we called the electric company and see if they had an idea. Next we called a local electrical contractor recommended by our neighbors. They came out the next day and determined Precision Power, which had been hired by Lowes, had installed a 100 amp automatic transfer switch in our 200 amp service line. Our local installer, we discovered, was also a Generac installer. They mentioned this was about the 5th faulty installation they have repaired. The box was burned and a fire hazard per the local electrician. They ordered the correct transfer switch and gave us the old box to pursue with Lowes. We had to spend an additional $ 1,500.00 to install a 200 amp automatic transfer switch. They also said our adjustment was not correct on the generator. On a recent outage we had no light flickering even the slight flickering that had been in place since the initial installation. My wife has gotten so frustrated with Lowes, she has asked me to handle this issue. My wife believes she is at a disadvantage with Lowes and the sub contractor, Precision Power. It has been about 3 months and Lowes is finding excuses not to reimburse us. Need more documentation, need to see the old box, we had to meet with the sub contractor which was not pleasant, talk with multiple people in the store who know nothing about managing an electrical sub contractor, out of warranty excuse, offering part money and part store credits, working with store employee's who admit they know nothing about this installation, being told we should have called the sub contractor first before calling an independent local electrican, being told that we overpayed for the work of the indepedent electrical contractor, tried calling us 3 times but we were not home, but they did not use our answering maching, not wanting to correspond in writing and more. Still waiting on full cash reimbursement for fixing their work. Today, November 14, 2010, we are still waiting on being made whole again.
