Big B Concrete

There was an issue with some cracking at the edge of the driveway and I called him up and he said he would come out and look at it and he never did. The price was fair. He came and did the work when said he was going to but he didn't respond when he said he was going to.

Brian returned my phone calls promptly. They were able to stop by my house and provide an estimate within 24 hours. After getting other bids and reading reviews on Angie's List, I picked Big B for the work. They gave a time window of 2-3 weeks before they would get to me--but a week later they contacted me and indicated they could fit me in early due to a delay at a construction site. Brian indicated to me who was going to come over by name and what time they would show up. They were there the next morning promptly and they completed the work in 1 day. The quality of their work was top notch--all of the lines were straight, they matched the old concrete sections very well, and the concrete was sloped at just the right angle. I never met Brian but his 2 co-workers (his son and a 10 year employee) were very professional and courteous. I would definitely pick them again in the future.

The concrete didn't look like what I excepted it was spotted and the color was irregular. The size of the spots were about a half inch approximate. I mentioned it to Mr Severs and he stated when it dries it will change to one color, which never happened.

It is wonderful. They removed all the asphalt and concrete, opened the areas as requested and made the forms. Returned the next day and added the gravel and competed the concrete work. Came back the next day and removed the forms.

Brian's concrete work was very professional. Easy to tell that he knew his work and enjoyed doing a good job. Because of his other obligations, communicating with him required patience. He always got back to me, but not always when he said he would. He arrived earlier than expected on the first day and later than expected on the second.

Brian gave us a prompt estimate, and was quick to work us into his schedule. Brian and Rob (and others at times) completed our job in July 2006. We were pleased with their work, responsiveness and price. They worked extremely hard and did a nice job. The weather made it particularly challenging, as a sudden and heavy downpour caused them to need to quickly cover the newly poured concrete, and then rework it once the rain stopped. In the spring of 2007 we noticed some flaking on the driveway. We called Brian to come take a look at it, and also (at Brian's suggestion) had the concrete company look at it. The concrete was either bad or the reworking of the concrete had caused it to weaken. In working with the concrete company, Brian agreed to replace the bad sections of the driveway (which ended up being 6 large squares). They jack-hammered out the old sections and replaced with a new pour in Oct 2008. Brian took care of this at no charge to us. We even got the impression from the concrete company, that had a representative visit during the work, that they may not have helped out as much as originally anticipated in covering the cost of replacement. We really appreciate Brian and his crew making good on our driveway. We hope that his fine reputation is rewarded with much work in the future. We wouldn't hesitate to use him again.

Brian removed a large concrete curb from the alley end of my backyard, approximately 4x10x1'. He brought a Bobcat and a trailer and broke up the concrete with the Bobcat, loaded it on the trailer, and took the concrete to the dump. Because he had squeezed me in at the end of the day on Halloween and he had to take the truck to the dump, he left the Bobcat there overnight and came back to get it in the morning but that was not a problem. He was very professional and got to me as soon as possible. Other companies were not willing to do such a small job but Brian got to it right away. I was very pleased and he also recommended a great stump guy to remove the stump so that I could drive up into the area as that was the purpose of removing the concrete. I was very pleased and will definitely use him again.

I would use them again in the future and would recommend them to others.

We got quotes from 3 companies. Brian was the most professional & informative. Although his estimate was slightly lower than the others, we probably would have chosen him to do the work even if his estimate wasn't the lowest. Our only concern up front was that he didn't/couldn't provide a formal written estimate - it was on the back of his business card. However, he showed up when promised, did the work quickly & professionally, and even helped us understand what had gone wrong with our concrete originally. (It had begun chipping and disintegrating in places all along the sidewalk and up the driveway). During the demolition, he found an unexpected pipe under the driveway and stopped to ask about it. This impressed me because he could have just continued and we probably never would have known the difference. He asked if we used it for anything; we didn't. He gave us the option to replace it or to simply discard it; we chose to eliminate it. During the job, my husband also talked to him about how to maintain the concrete (e.g., re-sealing it annually, taking care of snow & ice w/o damaging it, etc.) and he was, again, very helpful. After the job was complete, a boy came to deliver a newspaper and tried to jump over the newly poured sidewalk (even though it was cordoned off with caution tape and everything). He missed and landed right in the concrete! We called Brian and he sent his assistant right out (even though they'd only left an hour ago) to assess the damage. He was able to gently resurface the footprint-impaled area and reseal it. Today you can't tell the accident ever happened.

Brian showed up for the initial appointment, but never followed up with a price.

The steps have started to separate from the porch, the color of the concrete on the porch step is inconsistent. He is easy to deal with; However he is forgetful with call backs.

The work went very well. Brian responded quickly to phone calls and initiated contact when needed. He is a an easygoing, pleasant young man to work with. His crew was polite, hard-working, and professional. Several neighbors and visitors have made positive comments on the new driveway. Brian's estimate was much lower than an estimate I was given by another Angie's List company. I was concerned that Big B's work would not be of the quality that I wanted because their price was so much lower. I thought of the old saying, "You get what you pay for." But I reread the member reports on both companies. Both companies reports were favorable so I felt much safer about going with Big B. I'm very glad I did!

Brian came out within a day or so to give me an estimate. He scheduled the work two weeks out as I requested, he then adjusted the date to fit my schedule again. His crew was on time, polite and professional. They competed the job in about 5 hours. I love my new drive way!! Oh, and Brian's price of $1500 was only $40 higher than the estimates for a new asphalt driveway, and the concrete looks much nicer than asphalt!

I had Brian give me an estimate back in April/May but wasn't going to pursue the job at that time. But things changed for me financially so I called Brian around the first week of July to schedule the work. He got me on his schedule and within 2 weeks his crew was here doing the work! They broke up & hauled away all the old concrete plus installed all the forms on the first day. On the second day they poured and finished the 1200 sq. ft. driveway. On the third day they were back to remove forms and seal the concrete. That was it! From start to finish, Brian and his crew did an excellent job. They did exactly what we agreed upon and did it well. They were prompt, professional, and cleaned up the job site. All in all, I will have them out again to do any other concrete work I have. Excellent and painless experience (other than writing the check)! Good job Brian and crew!

The quality of work was excellent. There was some communication breakdown between the contractor and myself. We never received a formal estimate, and the one email we did receive had a higher price than the original estimate. On the day of the job it was left up to me to describe exactly what needed to be done. Not necessarily difficult, but there was some question on where to taper the driveway in. All of this being said, it was a pleasant experience. We are very satisfied with the job done and feel we paid a very fair price. We would work with this company again.

Brian Severs was prompt in providing an estimate on the job. He did the work according to our agreed upon schedule and charged what he had put on the estimate. After he finished the job and left for home, a squirrel ran across the wet concrete and left tracks. I called Brian, and he came back right away to smooth over the tracks. He was polite and professional. The work seems of good quality.

I called this company and they answered the phone. After telling him what I was looking for he asked me to call back and leave all of the information again on his voice mail... which I did. About a week later I called again and left a message. He called me back and said that he didn't get my first message but that he would definitely get out to our house for an estimate within the next couple of days (especially if it rained him out of his other jobs). It has been several more weeks and he has never come out for the estimate or called me back. While he did seem nice on the phone the lack of response is unacceptable.

They were here when they said they would be, cleaned up their mess, and were professional. He explained the whole process and why he was doing it. I will definitely hire them again in the future and can't speak highly enough of them.

Brian did an excellent job. He provided an estimate in a very timely manner and followed up quickly once selected to perform the work. The work was completed ahead of our expected project start date! Brian appears to be in demand as a prime and as a subcontractor. Our project was very small. Yet all work was completed within one week including a number of weather-related delays. Actual work started one week after authorization. One very important attribute - Brian communicated often and always let us know what was going on, why, and what the next steps would be. I found this to be quite impressive. He has set the bar for any subsequent contractor.

Big B did a fabulous job and was very flexible. The job took one day to tear everything out and due to weather the new concrete was poured the next day. We are thrilled with the treatment we were given and the quality was great. The estimate we got was $500 cheaper than the closest estimate but quality was not sacrificed. The workers were very professional and were even kind enough to set the mailbox post for our new mailbox at no extra charge.

It went very well. He was accurate on his estimate of when the work would be done, and then when he did it, it took about as long as he expected. He was very courteous to both of us, and answered all our questions. The driveway looks good.

We already had forms laid and gravel brought in. So this helped with cost. Brian responded with a quote right away and had sidewalk done within a week as promised. Very nice job. Would definitely recommend him for future jobs.

I cannot imagine anyone doing a better job, more conscientiously, or with a better attitude. Big B took care of the whole job with great professionalism, and the approach looks great. So great, in fact, that three neighbors on our cul-de-sac asked about Big B Concrete after the job was complete. I was delighted to recommend them highly. In addition to all of this, Big B came out on fairly short notice because Brian knew that I had a deadline to meet for the job. I don't know if he will always be able to do short-notice stuff, because if he keeps doing jobs this well, his company is going to get a *lot* of work. :-) One more note - to any amateurs who are considering doing this driveway/sidewalk stuff yourself -- think again! My husband had thought about doing it himself before they came, but when we saw what kind of expertise and equipment it took, we were very, very glad we had brought in professionals.

Brian Severs was great to work with and easy to talk to. The work was scheduled quickly and the 2 man crew completed in just over a day. It looks beautiful. His estimate was considerably lower than the 2 other co's we contacted.
