Contacted 5 vendors this Spring, only 3 responded. Of those, By far Indy Decorative Concrete was the most pleasant to deal with. The quote came in-line with the concrete quotes of other vendors, however they were the only one that stood behind the value of concrete (and did not try to sell a paver patio instead).

We requested our deposit be returned and we could part ways - or we would take next steps. We received our deposit Back. Do not use this contractor. (Approximate Cost of Service $4000.00)
Description of Work: We contracted for a custom stamped patio. This company is a bait and switch operation. You get a contract, sign it and send your deposit and AFTER THAT, ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS POP UP that they claim are not included in your contract. They want to charge you for extra things even if they are in the drawing done by their representative (we received an invoice for an additional $800.00 over the signed contract charge for steps )- they claimed there were no steps out of the house to the patio in the drawing and there CLEARLY ARE STEPS, TWO OPTIONS IN FACT ON THE DRAWING at the THE SAME CHARGE and it was contracted in - AS WE DID NOT INTEND TO PARACHUTE OUT OF THE HOUSE EVERYDAY why would we sign a contract for a patio that did not include steps out of the house??) and then start claiming no ease of access to the property and wanting to issue additional charges although there already had a charge for limited ease of access and plywood to cover the access area in the contract- which they also wanted to up charge after the fact. We waited over three months to get started. The day after they came to lay out the patio shape in spray paint is when we found out all the additional charges and when they spray painted the ground the patio was not measured with a wheel but done "by eye" and was way too small. We intended to double the deck size in the patio - the SQUARE FOOTAGE WAS IN THE CONTRACT - and he basically outlined the deck with out measuring and claimed that was the patio and shape WHICH ALSO DID NOT MATCH THE CONTRACTED DRAWING OR SQUARE FOOTAGE BY MANY FEET AND DIMENSION!!

We believe a copy of the email we sent [removed member name] sums up the issue. I take full responsibility for the oversight on the drawing. Of course, we refunded her money, she never had to ask- We want happy customers and at that point she would be impossible to please. I was not being dishonest in any way. It appears every unhappy customer of ours (we have hundreds of happy) complains on Angie’s List. But is it fair to give us an "F" in EVERY category? We did NO work for this person. Categories Overall Price Quality Responsiveness Punctuality Professionalism **Most importantly: We have been an accredited member of the BBB since 2008 with an A+ rating.** From: Jamie Roland [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, July 31, 2015 11:26 AM To: [removed member name] Subject: RE: Concrete Project [removed member name], We sincerely apologize for the miscommunication. We truly were not attempting a bait and switch. In creating your contract I missed your steps and it was my mistake that they were not listed or charged. Steps are costly, because it takes an additional concrete truck and second day of pouring. I put check number 3677 in the amount of $277.00 in the mail today. We have many competitors in the city that do wonderful work and we hope you have your patio installed and you love it. I had been looking for someone to do an overlay or top coat on my pool deck for about 3 years as I wanted a decorative experience but did not want to tear out the existing concrete due to the cost and possible problems with the pool plumbing. Indy Decorative Concrete was finally recommended by another Angie's List concrete contractor who, just very honestly, tol me that these guys were the best and felt it would last for many years. The crew did a great job, were professional and very polite. I would certainly recommend them to anyone as they are good and have a unique service.

After staying off floor for 24 hours what we discovered was horrible. We just spent $10,000 on a floor that doesn't even slightly resemble that sample shown at showroom. I'll be happy to send anyone pictures of sample and actual floor so this doesn't happen to you([email protected]) it's unbelievable we have spots everywhere, lines running the complete length of the room, very inconsistent color ... see the pictures. We've had 3 other companies with over 25 years experience each. All can't believe the poor craftsmanship. We were told by more than one the floor wasn't prepared or mixed properly. For the record the crew doing the work included the owner Marc I understand mistakes happen but stand by your work! On Indy Decorative Concrete profile its claims Warranties (TRUE) We would like a complete refund of $10,000. We will have to have the whole floor redone to make it look professional enough to have clients and suppliers in the building.
Description of Work: We purchased a warehouse gutted it replacing dry wall with fresh coat of paint. We brought these guys out do do a showroom floor. After they visited our warehouse to review scope of project we traveled to their showroom to review samples.

We complete hundreds of projects each year and unfortunately we always will have a few customers we are unable to fully satisfy. We understand Angie's list is cheap to join and we were not surprised to see this complaint, but a bit surprised to see an "F" in every category. [Member name removed] (the husband) liked the final product and paid us the full $10,000 on the final day. [Member name removed] (their employee) texted our finisher about the floor "Oh its badass" and "Thanks you guys did a great job" Then, [Member name removed] (the wife) saw the floor and thought it was too dark. She then searched the floor to find any imperfection. We then received demands to lighten the color up, fix areas where stain took differently due to hydrostatic pressure (we had addressed this all throughout the job), and finally, to give them $4,200 by 5/15/15 or they would take us to court. Although we will always strive for perfection on every job we have never had a perfect job. When dealing with natural products and reactive stains, customers have to keep somewhat of an open mind on the outcome of the color. Many factors are completely out of our control even as we follow the manufacturers’ recommended installation procedures. PLEASE NOTE: Obviously the picture from our showroom is not the color they picked and their photos showing the job after completion have dry wall dust all over. I welcome the offer for future customers to go to Columbus to check out the floor. I propose prior that floor is cleaned and we are allowed take photos of the entire floor that we can post on Angie's list. This way future customers can get a true, honest look, like stepping back and looking at the entire floor and hopefully they could skip the trip to Columbus. UPDATE 6/23/15: During this entire process we requested and waited for evidence of the statement "We've had 3 other companies with over 25 years experience each. All can't believe the poor craftsmanship." Due to the time limit Angie's List has for our reply, we were forced to reply without knowing what we were accused of doing wrong. We asked the Angie's list representative to persuade [Member name removed] to contact the distributor of the product we used, to tell us what we did wrong and [Member name removed] refused. We just did not want a paint contractor or tile company to give an expert opinion on our hybrid polymer modified cementitious overlay installation. Finally the Angie's list representative forwarded us 2 quotes (not 3). One quote from a wall coverings company to install an epoxy floor (Not a comparable bid- we did not install an epoxy floor). That quote had NO mention of poor craftsmanship. Also, a quote dated June 16 from a company bidding an epoxy floor (again not comparable) and AGAIN that quote mentioned NOTHING of poor craftsmanship. There was no evidence of a third company that was mentioned in the complaint dated May 26th. I then spoke with the Angie's list representative today and asked how [Member name removed] can make such a claim with no support. I appreciated her candor in explaining to me that Angie's list is not in the business to verify accusations but just to post people's thoughts. Now the BBB verifies defaming statements such as "We've had 3 other companies with over 25 years experience each. All can't believe the poor craftsmanship." We have been an accredited member of the BBB since 2008 with an A+ rating.

The things we were looking for were a stamped/stained patio, stone seating benches and a fire pit. Marc, the owner at Indy Decorative Concrete, came out and quoted us a price to pour the concrete and a price for labor to do the stone, but no stone price. The other companies that gave us estimates gave us a quote for everything (i.e. concrete, stone, labor, etc.). We talked to Marc and told him that we couldn't do a fair comparison of his estimate because he didn't include the materials in it. At that time he asked if he could do the entire job for $10,700 total. This price was a bit cheaper than the others so we agreed to it and gave Marc a deposit. The weather was not warm enough to pour concrete at the time, so we were waiting for it to break so we could get the job done. During this time, I contacted Marc and asked if it was possible to run conduit under the patio before we pour it so we could run some electrical to the pillars as well as mount a couple outlets. He said that it would be no problem and even recommended his brother-in-law as an electrician to hook the wiring up once the concrete job was complete. We also asked Marc specifically during at this time if we needed any type of permit to do the job. He told us that we did not. The weather broke and the job began. The first day the crew was out there someone in a state vehicle came over and questioned Marc for the storm water permit and building permit. Obviously Marc did not have these. Marc then told us that we needed to go to the courthouse and get these. These 'surprise' permits were almost $200! Marc specifically said that he NEVER has gotten a permit before. Beware! Even though we had a 'total' price given from Marc, we paid for the permits out of our pocket. Once we had the permits (after a 2 week delay) the concrete was poured and the stones for the benches showed up. Marc ordered the wrong color stone for the benches. Menards had to come pick up the stone and drop off the new, correct color. Another delay. Also, Marc ordered the totally wrong materials for the fire pit. The patio had rounded edges, rounded stairs, rounded benches, and Marc tried to install a cheap, squared off fire pit. Again, we had to have Menards deliver to correct materials to fix the mistake. Finally the work was completed and we had Marc's recommended electrician (his brother-in-law) come out to give us an estimate to run the wiring. He estimated $500 to run the wiring, hook up four lights, install an outlet, and install a new switch. We scheduled a time for him to come back and do the work. When the day came for the electrical to be ran, he ran into a large problem. Marc installed the conduit incorrectly so his electrician couldn't install the wiring. Basically, there was no way to run the wiring back down each pillar to get to the next. The electrician told us he was now going to have to drill holes into our brand new pillars to run this wiring but it was a bigger job and something he could not complete that day. He said he would work up a new estimate and get back with us. A couple weeks went by and we hadn't heard from him. I contacted the electrician several times as well as Marc. Finally, after finally telling Marc that I had not yet left a review on Angie's List because I was waiting to see how we was going to handle this situation, he contacted me. I told him that his brother-in-law would not respond to me and Marc responded with, "Well he doesn't actually work for me". This was frustrating to hear after it was a family recommendation from him. I told him that this job was now going to cost more than anticipated from the mistake that Marc created. I told Marc that I was willing to pay the original estimate price of $500 if Marc would simply take care of the difference. Marc had zero interest in making this situation right. The way Marc talked to me on the phone was disgusting. I totally received the "I have your money, why are you contacting me" attitude. He had absolutely no intent on helping us after the fact or resolving the problem that he created. When I called him on this, he actually started screaming at me on the phone. This is by a landslide the least professional business owner I've ever done business with. We feel that Marc told us whatever/exactly what we wanted to hear in order to get this job booked. Once the job was booked and he had half of the project money up front, that is were the service and the treatment we received went downhill drastically. Everything that we asked up front for the Indy Decorative Concrete to do was "no big deal". Marc seemed to be a subject matter expert on everything until it actually came time to get the job done. It was nothing but delays, wrong products showing up, and an overall poor job being done. [In response to the reply left by Marc on 6/1/14] I do not agree that the concrete looks great. When we talked after the job I brought up the issue of the seal/stain being very blotchy/uneven throughout the entire patio. You never even came back to check out the issue. There were no mid-project changes in shape that you allude to. The only changes mid project were materials because you were providing them and you provided the incorrect products. It is true that the conduit was added after the original contract was signed, however, it was added to the project WELL before any work had been performed. It's also true that I did not have the conduit available for Marc to install. That is because he specifically said he would be providing the conduit! If you are doing a job for someone and they're paying you almost $11,000, why would you not be SURE you were installing the correct conduit? When Marc says that he appreciates he and I working out the details for the permit, I'm sure he does appreciate this. This is because my wife and I were the ones who made the trips to the court house to get the permits and forked over the extra cash for them. He literally did nothing. He could have gotten the permit himself that would have given him the ability to do these jobs in our county (Johnson) but chose to have us spend our money on it because it was cheaper. And please keep in mind, we specifically asked Marc if we needed any kind of permit at all - to which he told us we did not. The conversation on the phone did not go how Marc said. He was yelling and angry. If you look at some of his other reviews on here, this isn't the only case that this happens. Either Marc just has a bunch of lying customers or Marc is the common denominator. Other customers have even called him "belligerent". We definitely got a taste of this also. We are upset that we spent so much money with someone who cares so little about their customers.

[member name removed], we offer our sincerest apologies that we were unable to completely satisfy you. When a customer allows us in their home or business our goal is always their happiness. We are a decorative concrete company and the concrete work looks great! I know you agree, because if you were not 100% satisfied with your concrete work, I am certain you would have listed any issues in the "F" rating you gave us. Throughout the project we were attempting to be accommodating to you. We allowed for mid-project changes to the size, shape, and materials used because we really wanted you happy with the end result. We performed many services for no additional charge that were not in the contract. On a project your size, it is reasonable to expect some hiccups along the way. I made mistakes that I owned up to and fixed promptly (project was completed April 7th). I appreciated you and I working out the details on the Johnson County permit. Each municipality is different and has to be researched depending on project type. Where the disagreement stems is when we agreed (outside the contract) to install conduit that you were to provide. You did not have it available when we needed it so I bought what I thought would work (did not charge you) and unfortunately it was too small. Now, you feel that we should agree to pay an unknown amount for someone else to switch it out. On our last phone conversation I was trying to communicate that we were willing to come back and dig down under the pillars and re-install, if you provided the correct size. We try to help our customers out any way we can, sometimes to a fault. As a business owner, I plan to hold myself more accountable getting detailed change orders drafted and signed as needed.

It went perfect. Marc and his crew were on time, and the project took exactly as long as he estimated it would. Marc did a great job explaining all of my options for basement floor overlays and stains, and answering any questions I had. Communication was excellent, he always got back with me promptly. He and his crew paid great attention to detail, and the floor now looks awesome. Quality work for a fair price. I got estimates from two other highly rated decorative concrete contractors on Angies List, and I'm glad I decided to go with Indy Decorative Concrete. I will definitely be using them again, probably within the next year, for some exterior concrete work.

We've had Marc and his team create a faux-slate and faux-brick patio in the back yard in 2011 and they did a beautiful job and were very quick and professional. Then in 2012 they poured us a fresh driveway after a tree and time had cracked our old one. They sent me a bid quickly, explaining all the details of the job. The work was messy but they didn't destroy our lawn with equipment or even workmen treading on it much. I've always enjoyed working with them and would use them again.

I called for an estimate, the owner came to the house within a day (called to confirm when he was on his way) and then work was finished within 3 days. They charged me by the SQ FT and told us up front how much the job would cost. We appreciate the upfront pricing, and quick work.
Description of Work: I am a repeat customer - IDC is a great company to work with - fast and professional. IDC worked on a patio at my old house and it looked beautiful and helped sell the house quickly (buyers mentioned the curb appeal). This winter I had them redo the basement floor. I called for an estimate and within 4 days the job was finished. The crew had to remove the gross old flooring, sand down the glue marks and coat the basement floor with an overlay that is water proof. We had about 350 SQFT redone. The crew worked quickly and left my house clean. The basement is beautiful, durable and especially DRY!!!. We have 2 large dogs and they play on the floor daily, no marks at all.

Our experience with Marc Roland couldn't have been better. The quality of the job is excellent, he was professional and punctual, and it was clear that he is very experienced and knowledgeable. He also worked with my wife to help her choose the best look for the patio - she is very happy with the outcome. BTW, I couldn't help read the recent negative review on this company, which I must comment on. When I first talked to Marc on the phone, he was very professional and courteous and I very much appreciated him giving me an approximate quote on the phone, based on the information I provided him. He explained that this was a very busy time for him (it was May), and we set up an appointment a week or so later for him to look at the job and provide a written quote. He was punctual for that meeting, and for completing the job when he said he would.

I found their website and a beautiful example of what I've been looking for in their photos. I called the main number and spoke with an older lady who was not very professional. Traded VMs with Marc several times; he never did answer his phone directly. Attempted to contact again last week - the woman remembered me but I never did get a call back. Their work looks beautiful and all kinds of great ratings here on Angie's List...Now, though, I'm concerned that if I AM able to get a quote from them, that the entire job will be just as lacking in communication. He must be too busy with other jobs to follow up. Glad his business is going so well.

I called Mark and he came out a few days later to do the estimate. He listened carefully to what we were trying to do and gave us an estimate on the spot. We had received the other two and Mark’s was the most competitive. We signed the contract on the spot. Mark called several days before the job to let us know he was coming. He planned to set the forms one afternoon and pour the concrete the next morning. Mark and his crew showed up when they promised to be here and began work right away. Mark was there to supervise the entire project. As they set out the forms they discovered a sprinkler head that was right in the way. Mark’s crew made a lot of effort to move that sprinkler head out of the way rather than change our design. The pouring and stamping was done early the next morning and Mark was, again, there to oversee the project. We are very happy with the result. Now, in our backyard, we have a beautiful, low maintenance, stamped concrete patio.
Description of Work: We wanted to replace our brick paver patio with a stamped concrete patio and Indy Decorative Concrete was one of three estimates we requested.
Excellent job was done, team was prompt, hard working, and diligent in their efforts. We are extremely pleased with their results. And would recommend them to anyone, we already have.

On Wednesday afternoon, at 4:30, I received a call from Indy Decorative Concrete. The person began the conversation stating that he understood that I want a decorative patio. He then informed me that they are so booked with appointments that they are trying to provide estimates on the phone, rather than visiting the homesite. He then asked me how many square feet the patio will be. I do not know the size of the patio I want. He asked if I live on a hill or flat surface. I told him flat. He asked if he can get a bobcat into my backyard. I stated that I have a white PVC picket fence in my backyard, and a lot of decorative flower beds with cement borders, so I don't know if a bobcat will fit, or not. He asked me if I plan to have a grill, table, and chairs only. He told me that it would cost me $10 a square foot for a 300 square foot patio, which he stated is probably what I want. I stated I didn't know. He stated that he could come to my home on June 4th (in 2 weeks). I stated I would be out of state on that date. He asked me when I planned to return. I stated that I would return on the 7th. He then told me he would call me on the 7th to see what they could set up after that date. I said, no...I wanted to set up something now. I couldn't understand why he wasn't willing to schedule an appointment with me. He then became indignant and rude. I asked him why he was not willing to set up an appointment now. He stated that if I was having five contractors come out and give me a price of $7 a square foot, why would he then come out and give me a quote. I then asked him where the $7 a square foot came from. I have not received any quotes yet and do not know where he came up with $7 a square foot. He became more indignant and began to talk over me. Very unprofessional! As I was trying to talk, he was talking over me. I finally told him that I would not be considering them and that I would be providing his company with a rating on Angie's List. He said, "What for?!!" I then disconnected from the call. Please check out my reviews. I've done well over 50 reviews on Angie's List. Most of them are quite positive. This, unfortunately, is one of the reviews that I regret. I will be hiring a company to put in a beautiful patio; however, it will not be Indy Decorative Concrete. I'm sure they do good work, but customer service and attitude are just as important as quality work. Unfortunately, some contractors just don't get it. I wish this company well, but they lost any chance for my business now, or in the future. I should also note that of the four companies that I will now consider, two have already called me and set up an appointment for next week. They are A-rated companies and were very pleasant and professional on the phone. I am axious for them to arrive at my home and give me ideas about designing my patio. Fortunately, they have time to develop positive relationships with new customers. So, soon, I will be relaxing on a new decorative concrete patio ... but it will not have been built by Indy Decorative Concrete. Member Update (6/1/2012): Your first statement is false. I knew from day one that I wanted a stamped concrete patio. I never wanted a deck or pavers. Please get your facts correct. You asked me what size patio I wanted and I stated that I had no idea. That would be something you would calcuate when you would come to my home and discuss options with me. Second, I did not want an estimate immediately. Another wrong statement on your part. I wanted an appointment immediately. I stated that we could set up the appointment for a time after I returned from my out-of-state trip. You were not willing to do that, but wanted instead to set up the appointment when I returned, rather than on our initial call. I do not want to describe what I want over the phone and receive an estimate for something that I have not seen (patterns, color, warranty's, techniques, border options, etc.). In terms of wanting to compete for my business with other contracts, I cannot attest to whether that was sincere, or not. I can, however, state that you were unwilling, unlike two top-notich contractors who came to my home, to provide me with all my options, discuss what would look good given the surrounding landscaping and curbing that I have. That is simply not possible to do over a telephone. I noted, in another Angie's List review of your company, a very similar experience to mine with you. I didn't see that until after my experience with you on the phone. When I read that reviewer's assessment of his treatment by you, on the telephone, I realized I am not alone in this assessment. Finally, you are incorrect in stating that I told you I was going to give you an "F" on Angie's List. What I did say was that I was going to evaluate you on Angie's List. Perhaps you heard "F" because that was your self-assessment. I don't know. I do know that I have the choice of a large number of A-rated companies on Angie's List. I do know that of the four other vendors that I contacted, three of them came to my home. Of those three, two provided me with color options, pattern options, border options, explanations of their techniques. But most importantly, they provided quality and friendly customer service. I have selected a business to do the work. Even the business I did not select will receive an "A" rating from me because they were professional, punctual, and responsive. Finally, you never stated that you would come to my home on Memorial Day, or any other day. I feel that some people just do not communicate well. I have to say that I had no problems communicating with the other vendors. In fact, they were rather surprised when I was discusing tensil strength and asking if they were using 4000 PSI for the pour and if their coloring techniques including the use of a brush or hand-tossing the colorant ... or if the colorant was incorporated into the mix. I asked about the sealant process and acid etching some designs that I wanted incorporated into the borders. I am not suggesting that all persons with advanced degrees are able to communicate, but I think that with my three Masters Degrees and a PhD within the next six months, I am able to communicate what I want and do not want. I also do not lie, so others who review my assessment and replies may count on their accuracy. You made many inaccurate claims in your response to me. That further disappoints me. I wish your business well. I wish you well. But we will never do business ... and I rarely use the word "never."
Description of Work: I selected five contractors from Angie's List who have an "A" rating. I am asking the contractors to provide me with a quote on a patio in my backyard. Each of the contractors received an email, through Angie's List, stating that I want the contractor to provide me with an estimate on a decorative concrete patio. All five contractors received the identical message. Read on to find out how absolutely rude this company was.

Response from INDY DECORATIVE CONCRETE
Member, Yes sir, I did began our conversation stating that I understood you wanted a decorative (concrete) patio because that is what the Angie's list email stated. I received your email at 7:30 pm Tuesday and contacted you promptly, the next day. My confusion started early on during our conversation when you stated that you did not know what you wanted; concrete, paver, or a wood deck and you did not know the size yet. The only thing you knew is that I needed to come out to your house as soon as possible. You wanted a home estimate immediately and I couldn't get out there. So I did the best I could to give you a ball park over the phone. That is why I asked you that series of questions. You mentioned several times that you contacted four other contractors and I honestly wanted to be in the running. I told you too that I would send you in writing what we discussed. Yes, depending on what you wanted we could offer a price of $7 per sq ft for gray and our stamped concrete starts at $10 per sq ft. I then was having serious trouble understating what you wanted and I realized that you were getting frustrated with me, so I did say I could come out to your home and meet with you on Memorial Day (not the 4th) because my crews were not working or I could come out when you got back from being out of town. I was not "indignant and rude." I actually wanted your business and I am in Fishers often. I thought I was professional as best as possible on a cell phone on 465. Finally, I felt as if I really was trying to understand your needs and arrange my schedule to get out you your house as soon as possible then you surprised me by saying you were going to give me an "F" on Angie's List and I did ask " "What for?!!" then you did hang up on me. We certainly had a communication problem and I apologize for my part. We wish you good luck with your patio project. Indy Decorative Concrete
