They had an opening in their schedule so they were able to send out a serviceman the same day that I called. He was very nice. After looking at the problem he looked it up on a tablet that he brought with him and told me the price for the repair (less Angie's List coupon) and then did the work. Overall pleased with the experience although would have liked to see parts and labor broken out on the receipt that he left with me.

Didn't really want to call them on Sunday due to the 90 extra fee charged, but it was necessary. I did have an Annie's list coupon for 35.00 off which helped somewhat. The clog was corrected.

The Mr. Waller, the service technician, arrived at the expected time. After the issue assessment, Mr. Waller explained the problem, how the problem would be resolved and the cost of that particular service. The issue was resolved. Mr. Waller was neat and cleaned after the repair was complete. He was courteous and professional during his visit. This was a job well done.

The Water Works guys arrived within the hour. I don't remember the name of the younger guy who was an apprentice but I do remember Tim. Tim is a second or third generation plumber. He is what I call a master plumber. They came in examined the gas lines to the basement which was not easy. The basements in our part of town are very low so there is a lot of bending in order to get to the lines. Also since the house was built in the early twenties, there are numerous old gas lines running all over the place. Tim and his partner went right to work unfazed by the challenge. I gave them permission to cut the old line that were no longer in use. I saw Tim reach into very hard to reach areas in order to cut the old lines. There were some areas that were so hard to reach that I felt for sure that Tim would give up. But Tim stayed persistent. He endured long periods of straining in awkward positions and falling debris to cut lines. At one point his partner rose up to high and struck his head on the furnace ducts. I mean he hit it so hard I thought he would have to stop because he may have injured himself. But they both continued until they felt they had taken care of any lines that may have caused any leaks. When they had first arrived they were both wearing clean uniforms. When they left they both looked like they had come thru a construction site. I totally appreciate what Tim and his partner did in order to get our gas turned back on. I did notice Tim kept using his partners small light because he lost his somewhere. I hope at the very least I could do is to get one to replace it and send it to him. I just hope when I need a plumber in the future they don't mind me asking for Tim. (member name removed)
Description of Work: I had unwittingly scheduled a gas inspection on Feb 27th. After all what can possibly go wrong? Well the inspector arrived and discovered a leak. No problem I thought he would fix it and no harm done. Wrong! The inspection guy doesn't fix leaks. Instead, he shut off the gas and told me to find a plumber to fix it. It's 10 below outside and I have a large old home in Old Towne East. I was upset. How can Columbia Gas do inspections, shut your gas off and not fix the problem? I rushed upstairs and grabbed my Angies list. That's when I called Water Works.

The technician I requested couldn't come; dispatcher said a substitute will come instead. Task is to clear the main sewer line. An estimate ($300) was given at outset. He worked rather slowly (in my view), at least in getting set-up. Didn't help in cleaning up the over flow on basement floor (maybe he is not supposed to). He certainly was not as friendly as the one originally requested and only answered when asked, not so communicative. When he finished, I asked him to have a look at a basement toilet (also mentioned at the very outset as well) which still didn't drain (that was surprising to me). He said he'd have to take toilet off and would cost more. He used a plunger and after a few pumpings the toilet slowly did drain out. To my surprise, because of his slowness in getting set up, it exceeded 2 hours which he said was the allowed time. Thus he had charged an additional hour even though the amount of time using plunger in the toilet could have taken more than 15 minutes. I asked for senior discount (which according to company's website said it has) and he gave the 10% discount. He probably should have offered voluntarily. All in all, my sense is that Waterworks still deserves to be used in the future (with a different technician), but the experience this time was less satisfying. He could have fitted in his main sewer line work and the 15 minutes using his plunger in the alloted (2 hrs) if he worked at more normal efficiency, I feel. Maybe is the original technician had come, it would have been a different experience. [This technician has only been at Waterworks for about 2 or 3 years, but said he has had plenty of experience elsewhere. If I use Waterworks in future, would likely ask for the original technician.]

I did not use their service. The work for which they had bid over $2000 was completed by another company for $675 + tax.
Description of Work: Waterworks was the first company to respond after my water supply line was leaking in the front yard. I almost accepted their estimate of over $2000 for the repair (plus $more if the line needed to be replaced), but decided to wait for additional estimates, which came in at about $700 for repair and well under $2000 even if complete replacement would needed.

Response from The Waterworks
Thank you for contacting Angie's List regarding your recent experience with The Waterworks. I can appreciate your concerns with respect to the cost for services. At times our company can be more expensive when compared with other companies. However, with the expense comes the experience, excellence, and expertise of a company that has been in business for over 75 years, with membership not only with Angie's List, but the Better Business Bureau as well. The Waterworks' technicians receive ongoing training and education and are accredited by various cities and municipalities. The Waterworks stands behind the work we provide and warranties services rendered. At times our price may be more expensive than some other companies, but you get the quality and expertise you pay for when using The Waterworks. Sincerely, Ursula Anderson Customer Service Lead

The whole process went very well. Called at 9:12. Got a call to expect arrival of technician at 9:24. Technician arrived at 10:04. From call to arrival that is extraordinarily fast. Cost of $175 for the first hour is a bit pricey, but I had an Angie's List coupon that brought the total cost to $140. For one hour of work that is still high . . . .but the service rendered was excellent.

I couldn't be more pleased with the responsiveness of Waterworks. I had them out twice. Once when I had a sump pump line blocked (turned out to be ice) and again later that week to run a gas line. For the first service, I called at 6:30 AM and got an immediate and pleasant answer. Same day service by 11:00. Needed a different serviceman for the gas line. When my regular company didn't call me back, I called Waterworks again. They could have come out same day again but I was out of town. They came the day I returned and did the work. I will definitely be using them again.

Initially called because I thought I needed a new 50 gallon water tank. Billy suggested that we try removing sediment and replacing a pipe first. Then, because previous owners never drained sediment - it was so clogged he didn't think it could be drained and he said installed a new one would be $1400. Just when I signed off to have a new one - he came back and said, good news - he got the sediment to move and he ended up just removing sediment - saving me a lot of money. Most companies would not be so forthcoming and would only look at their bottom line - so they will get my repeat business. I've got a request in for them to solve my sump pump and leaking basement issues next.

Called on Friday evening after coming home to find a broken sump pump and a basement full of water. The person who took the call acted like I was bothering her. Said they could not commit to any time window when a service person would arrive...would be that night but maybe 2am. There would be a $90 after hours fee ($15 more than the company I ended up using) and they needed my credit card number to even schedule a visit. Felt like they didn't need or want my business so I went elsewhere.

Thank you for sharing your concerns regarding your recent telephone experience with The Waterworks. Your experience is disappointing and certainly not what The Waterworks wants for our customers to receive when calling our company. Our customer service representatives are to provide the customer with the best possible service experience. The representative with whom you spoke has been notified and coached on your call. It is difficult to provide a time for when a technician would arrive at your home due to the unexpected issues that could present themselves while a technician is working, especially after normal service hours. However, we do our best to provide quality service to all of our customers in a timely manner. The Waterworks secures credit card information for all after hour services. That information is stored confidentially and is secured. I regret your disappointment and apologize. Sincerely, Ursula Anderson Customer Service Team Lead

Let me be clear. The service was perfect and the gentleman who performed it was professional, efficient and very nice. My "downgrading" was because of the experience scheduling the appt. I called on a Saturday and asked if someone were available that day. I was told no, but they could come out on Sunday. And, there would be a $94 fee for the Sunday service that they would need to secure with a credit card. i hate to give that info over the phone for a service that has not been completed, but I was kind of stuck. I scheduled the appt for Sunday. Late Saturday afternoon, I got a call saying the plumber was on the way! I said I couldnt do that as we were leaving for the evening and that I thought the appt was for Sunday because no one was available that same day. The dispatcher was confused too and asked if I wanted to reschedule. I said, no, but the Sunday appt would have to be kept as my kitchen sink was completed stopped. When the plumber came out on Sunday, I saw that we were being charged OT rates for the Sunday call. It felt shady. I mentioned that and he was a little embarrassed. Although he did not throw his company under the bus, he agreed that having to pay the Sunday premium fee when there obviously were appts available on Saturday when I first called was probably not fair. I want to give the benefit of the doubt that it was just a miscommunication, but would feel better about it had the office offered to waive the Sunday fee once they realized they'd made a mistake vs. having the technician himself do it.

They came within 2 hours of my phone call, which was great because I had 2-3 inches of water in the basement from the snow melting and having no where to go because the main basement drain was clogged with roots. They did the work for a rate that was per drain, rather than per hour. They also talked with me about options for preventive maintenance or more permanent solutions. And, on the way out, they even took a look at my bathroom faucet and replaced a part of the spout that was missing a screen.

Rodney came out and soon diagnosed the problem. Something (a peel from a grapefruit) had broken off a tiny "tooth" of the unit. Rodney worked hard to get that little piece out, but then determined that the unit was still working fine. I received $20.00 off the bill because of my Angie's list membership. I will use this company again in the future because of their reliability, professionalism, and response. Thank you to Amy, too, who called me to tell me that the plumber would arrive within the next half hour.

Waterworks charged us $588 for the drain-snaking estimate. Waterworks said they snaked 120 feet of drain. They advised there was a break in our sewer pipe out by the street and it would cost $8,500-$9,000 to fix. They really made us feel afraid that we really needed to repair the drain for the price they quoted. They said the drain was very old, installed in 1925, etc., etc. We also had to pay $150 more to get the video of the drain snaking. We sought a second opinion from a company by the name of Underground Connections. Underground Connections looked at the video from Waterworks and said they didn’t believe there was a break in the pipe, just a backup with toilet paper. They also said the drain was only 40 feet, nowhere near the 120 feet Waterworks had stated to me. Therefore we had the sewer line jetted by a third company and the problem was resolved. There was no break in the line. We do not recommend any one use Waterworks but highly recommend Underground Connections.

Thank you for sharing your concerns about your recent service from The Waterworks. I regret that your experience was not to your satisfaction. Before beginning any work, the technician provided you with an estimated cost for service, $294 for the first two hours of service and $98 for each additional hour; this estimate was approved by you and was signed off on with your signature on the job ticket. After some research, I found that two technicians were working on the problem and the total time on the job was four minutes shy of 7 hours. It is policy of The Waterworks to provide the video inspection, at no additional cost, to our customer after the drain cleaning. As indicated on the same job ticket, the cable used to clear the line continued to get stuck at 98’, but the technician was able to pull out heavy mud and heavy waste. Due to the severity of the blockage, the camera was not able to go past 40’. I am not able to comment on the practices of the company that you utilized after our techs spent nearly 7 hours working on the problem. I can inform you that The Waterworks have been in business over 75 years, won the Consumer Choice award 13 consecutive years, and are members of the Better Business Bureau in addition to being members of Angie’s List. I appreciate your concerns and apologize again that your experience with The Waterworks did not meet your expectations. Sincerely, Ursula Anderson Customer Service Team Lead
