+ -1 morescheduled appt for an estimate a little more than a week in advance and they were able to match my schedule well. Showed up on time and gave me estimates and then completed the job quickly in a professional manner after I gave him the go ahead to replace the old main shut off valve.
Description of Work: Installed new main shut off valve - old valve was leaking. Work was done for $150, ~$140 less than another quote Also got an estimate for installing a frost proof faucet on an exterior garage door. Estimate was minimum of $500 - $600: $200 - $300 more than another quote. Decided I will attempt this job on my own.

Description of Work: On the phone, Tarvin promised to come connect water service for $200. I had to take off work because they only work weekdays. When plumber arrived, before he would work, he said he would only work at an hourly rate of $82 and I had to pay his helper $41 per hour. I am an older woman and this was a man in his thirties. He spoke at me as if I was stupid and with a very bullying tone. This made me furious because of his tone and because the terms were a total abrogation of the phone agreement. They had me over a barrel and knew it. I had already taken off work, needed the water service to start renovation and I wasn't going to be able to get the service from anyone else that day. So, I had to agree. The plumber's "helper" soldered a pipe incorrectly so, when I pointed out the dripping, Tarvin fixed this. However, the plumber didn't notice this or chose to ignore it and, since I was paying by the hour, I had to pay for the time twice. This whole experience left a horrible taste in my mouth for Tarvin and Cincinnati plumbers in general.

+ -1 moreAll went well, except for the price. Two Tarvin employees came and assessed the situation. A third employee came and completed the job the same day. The quality is great, all employees were professional and communicative. But I suspect a good bit of "hour inflation" took place based upon the size of the job and the numbers of work hours claimed (nearly 5 in total). After I posted my report, Tarvin Plumbing contacted me and apologized for the overcharge. They agreed that their use of multiple employees to begin and finish my job had resulted in an overcharge. They were very professional, and sent me a partial refund for the labor charges. Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality of the work, and with the final cost.
Description of Work: Lead fitting/pipe below toilet replaced with PVC.

He did not push any products on me; I came to the decision on my own to replace the faucet when all he had to do was tighten the fixture. He installed the faucet very efficiently and gave me the Angie's List discount even though I couldn't find my coupon.
Description of Work: We had a leak in our kitchen sink that I thought came from the dishwasher. It turned out to be the faucet, which we had neglected for too long. Tarvin came earlier than expected, identified the source of the leak and replaced the faucet.

water heater repair
+ -1 moreOur water heater died unexpectedly and Tarvin was able to come out quickly and look at it. The fan needed cleaning and then the water heater was able to function again. The heater was old and on it's last legs, so we knew we would need to replace it soon. The estimate from Tarvin to put in a new heater was higher than some other estimates we received, so we did not end up having them replace the entire water heater.

gas leak repair
+ -1 moreI had an inspection and found that I had a gas leak on the main line coming into the house, just inside the house. There had been a joint in the pipe which led to radiators which were no longer there. Duke Energy had shut my gas off and I needed a repair urgently in my 2 family home. Tarvin came out the next day. They were reasonably priced - they did not charge extra due to the urgent nature of my need, which I really appreciated. In addition, since they were there, I asked if they could fix a few other problems which I had been putting off - a loose toilet, some faucet issues. He did that as well, all for an hourly rate. Now, he did need to go to the store, did not have the right piping on the truck, and I had to pay for the time for him to go to the store, which was disappointing. But he gave me the choice to fix the old pipe, which may not hold, or to replace it with a pipe that had no joint. He took time to explain my options and did a great job.
Description of Work: Replaced pipe to repair a gas leak. Fixed toilet which was not properly seated. Fixed three faucets that were loose.

water heater repair
+ -1 moreIt was also planned to install a ball valve before the water meter but water company was unresponsive and curb valve tool that the installer had was too short so the total job was not completed. I was told that if they had to come back to replace the valve before the meter I would be charged extra labor. I opted to just have the cost of the second valve refunded. Water heater works well. Noise level is OK.
Description of Work: Installed a 50 gallon power vent gas water heater with extra magnesium rod and a power vent. Also replaced main house valve with a ball valve and hot water valve with a ball valve. No electrical work needed.

We picked out some cabinets based on the look and we didn't measure them. They worked with us and another company and got glass enclosures around the tub. They worked with us to get it right and made suggestions that we hadn't thought about. We were very pleased with them. The subcontractors all call if they aren't going to be there.
