Excellent work by Gary Clark Fair and Professional Would hire again

I needed the GFCI replaced as a result of a home inspection so I could move forward with the sale of my home. Response was fast and had Outlet replaced in two days.

Fabulous! Gary Clark is a master electrician. Very professional, punctual, dependable and first rate in every respect. He even reassured our over reacting beagle. A dog whisperer? Rylix Electric did a good job on my basement rewiring project. They were very punctual and professional. They were quick to deliver any estimates and very responsive to any questions. The final product was a very professional job. I felt the price was on the high end of normal given the amount of time and materials used for my job, but I needed someone to get in and do the job quickly to keep the subsequent project steps on schedule. I would hire Rylix electric again, but would get additional estimates for a comparison.

Rylix was great! Even with the snow and sleet today, they showed up ready to work. After we talked about what I needed for the band saw, Gary recommended a change in plans (which saved me some money) and had no qualms about running out to pick up additional materials with no added cost to his quoted price. They worked quickly and didn't even wake up the sleeping 10 month old upstairs; an added bonus! After the job was complete, Gary graciously took a look at our barn to determine if the previous owners had the wiring up to code. This is the second time we've had Gary out to the house (the first time he installed new wiring for our hot tub) and I'm already planning to have him out again whenever we get the wood shop built, but give me about 5-10 years.

We bought two chandeliers online and needed them installed in the dining room and downstairs hallway. This is kind of a long story but please read it, it will save you a lot of time and agony. I called one electrician who came out to review the job. He seemed very good according to Angie's list but I was concerned because he worked alone and would be eighteen feet up in the hallway to put in one of the chandeliers. I called Rylix Electric and talked to Gary over the phone. I asked if he could come to my house to inspect the project. I told him what I needed done in detail describing the chandeliers, height of the hallway, width of the hallway,etc. I asked again when he could look at it and he said " I don't need to see it, I've installed every kind of light there is." Then he said " you've described it for me pretty well." He said he had a guy who worked with him. He convinced me that he knew what he was doing and his skill level. That was the first problem. They showed up on time and I showed them the areas where the two chandeliers would go. Both the lights had many real lead crystals on them and asked them to be careful with them because according to the instructions they can break or be scratched easily. The crystals were in strands, plus big, medium and small pieces. The assistant starts putting one of the chandeliers together in my library without asking my permission first. The doors were closed and I would have let him, just ask as a courtesy first. I got out of their way and moved to the living room. They had a giant folding ladder to reach the hallway area and when I checked on them about 10 minutes later Gary has strands of crystals just draped over one of the steps of his ladder. Right across the bare metal no towel or anything to protect them. I did'nt say anything because I did'nt want to anger them right off and they end up doing a bad job. I go back to the living room and five minutes later I hear a banging noise. I thought "That doesn't sound good!" I walk around the corner and there is a strand of crystals that fell eighteen feet to the ground! I even heard it hit the ladder on the way down. I said to Gary that I heard it hit the ladder and he denied it. He said "It did'n hit the ladder,it just hit the floor." Like that was okay or something! I let that go and left the room. I told myself that if they dropped anymore crystals I would say something. Another ten minutes and "Bang!" another strand of crystals hits the floor. I walked in and was mad now and said "Guys listen, this is lead crystal and you need to be careful with it, it breaks easily." Gary gives me a blank look and says "oh, okay." As they brought down the old brass chandeliers I went out to my garage to have something to do so I could clean the dust off so I could donate them to a local charity. As I walked in from my garage (our bath room is right next to the doorway) there's Gary just standing in my hallway. I wondered what he was doing and realized his assistant is in my bath room and Gary is waiting his turn. Once again I was never asked. I really hate strangers walking around my house without any permission. Why also could'nt Gary keep working until it was his turn to use it? By this point I'm really mad and stressed out and just want them to finish and get out of my house! Finally after about three hours they finished. I looked everything over as best I could. Gary's writing out the bill and the other guy walks out so I reiterate that they scared the **** out of me by dropping the crystal strands. I repeated again that it was quality crystal and they use lead to make it and that's how it looks so good. Gary says " That would have been nice to know right from the start." I told him that I DID tell him that and reminded him that he told me he had installed every kind of light there is. I asked him "You've never heard of lead crystal?" He just looked away and would'nt answer me. I could'nt get them out of my house fast enough. He gets his check and says bye and shoots out the door. They cleaned up mostly but left bits of wires, zip ties and packaging here and there which I cleaned up. This was THE most stressful Angie's List contractor that I've ever hired, all of the others have been pretty good to excellent. I feel that I should tell my experience to warn others. Everything I've said is true and I will never hire them again. As a footnote I rented some scaffolding recently to paint the large hallway and when up there I found one of the large crystals turned around backwards. I was'nt surprised at all.

Within 20 minutes of arrival Gary and his partner had diagnosed the problem as a?break in the wiring between the house and the shed.? They had to dig up the wires leading to the shed and then spliced them back together in the proper fashion.? Total time of the job was about 2 hours. Not only did I get the power restored to my shed but now I know who to call when ever I have electical needs in the future.? You cant go wrong with Gary? at Rylix Electric.
