Ace Exterminating

On the evening of September 5th, we discovered mouse droppings in our under-sink kitchen cabinet, on our counter top and on the stove top as well as a few other places on the kitchen floor. Obviously this was very disturbing, so, based on reviews on Angie's List, we selected Ace Exterminating to solve our mouse problem. I called them Tuesday morning and arranged for someone to come out to set traps and identify where mice could be coming in. I really wanted to find someone who would perform exclusion services (i.e. sealing up possible access paths), but I was not able to find anyone in this area who would do that. Ace said that they used a product called "stuff it" that was kind of like a steel wool but more durable and they could block small holes, etc. with it, but that's about the extent of what they would do (beyond setting traps). Dan came out Tuesday afternoon. During his visit, a number of things occurred that seemed unprofessional and in general, added up to us giving poor scores on this review. To start with, once my wife opened the door for him, he kind of walked right in and never gave his name. He then asked where we had seen the mice. We explained that we never saw any mice, just droppings. My wife had to repeat this several times, as he seemed to keep forgetting. We told him where we had seen the droppings (e.g. the kitchen cabinet, etc.) but that we had already cleaned them up. When he looked around, he explained that the mouse must have come in somewhere else because he didn't see any droppings in the cabinet (the cabinet we told him we had already cleaned up). Next, he somewhat carelessly pulled out our range to look behind it, almost breaking a spice rack in the process. After that, he began to set traps. This involved him opening a package of mouse bait. At various times, he set the open mouse bait on our cook top and our kitchen table (where he accidentally left an open package of it when he left) and in general dropped bits of bait various places around the house. Pretty much anywhere he set a trap, he ended up dropping bits of the bait and leaving it on the floor. After dealing with the kitchen, he moved on to checking the attics (our attic is split into two sections with separate access to each). To do this, he had to borrow our ladder because he didn't have a ladder with him. While working in the garage (where one attic access is), he knocked various things over while handling our ladder. After the attics, he moved on to the basement to the access panel in the ceiling where we had previously seen droppings. Even though he had been advised that there were probably droppings on top of the panel, when he took it off he allowed droppings to fall on a bathroom-style sink/vanity and the carpet. Only after asking him to, he cleaned up the droppings which had fallen on the sink, but left the droppings on the carpet. Finally, we had to ask him about sealing up openings. The only openings he identified where mice could possibly get in were places we specifically suggested that he check. When asked about sealing those, he said we could do that if we wanted. We then asked if he would seal them with "stuff it," as discussed with the office staff on the phone. He said he could do that, but didn't have any with him, but if we had some steel wool, he could use that, because it's basically the same thing. So he used our steel wool and plugged the holes. Finally, he asked if there was anything else he could do. We inquired about what to do if we find anything caught in the traps (they were all glue traps). He said he would be back next week to check them, but if they started to smell or something, he guessed we could throw them out. Throughout the three visits, he handled various nasty things and sat his bag on potentially contaminated and/or dirty surfaces (attic, garage floor, etc.) and then sat it on the washing machine top, the kitchen counter, on top of kitchen dish towels, etc. He also touched mouse bait, mouse droppings, doors, light switches, etc. without washing his hands at any point. We felt like the whole house had to be sanitized after he left. On his first follow-up visit, he had to be reminded where he had placed traps. Also, he had said he saw signs of a pretty significant mouse problem in one of the attics on his first visit, but on his second visit, every single trap was empty. He commented that he was surprised that he didn't set more traps in the attic on the first visit, so he added more traps (which meant more bait flung around various places). I still haven't quite figured out the logic: suspect big mouse problem, set fewer traps than you think you should, catch nothing, so decide to add more traps. Whatever. (I don't think we actually had a big problem this time - I think what he saw was leftover evidence from a previous problem we had solved on our own several years ago with poison packs in the attic - which we had told him about on his first visit.) With the second round of baiting traps, we had to clean up stray mouse bait from the top of the washing machine, our hallway floor and bathroom floor. For his third and final visit, the traps were all still empty, so we had him remove the traps from the kitchen and leave the ones in the attics as a preventive measure. We've had no further evidence of mice. We think that a couple of holes we sealed up ourselves has solved the problem (since no trap ever caught anything - and there were plenty of traps). In general, technically he performed the work we expected, but it seemed like professionalism was lacking and we had to keep asking him to do things that I would have thought would be commonly expected. We will not hire Ace again.

Darryl was very professional and prompt. He educated me on things to look for as evidence for termites and carparter ants and I have been able to capture some insects for him to look at. He was very knowledgable. We will probably use him for a service contract for my home.

They went in and took care of it with the dusting of the spray. He cleaned out the vent and replaced it and did a very good job. We are very happy with his work and taken care of everything.

Honestly, I was just going through the process of updating my autopayments, and needed to contact Ace Exterminating to adjust credit cards. I have been using these guys for four years for my pest control and they are great. Really interested in doing the best job they can do, quick response with anything that goes wrong and, best of all, no more ants! But I'm writing this review because of their phenomenal customer service. Having just spent 40 minutes with Anthem to change payments, 30 minutes with my mortgage company, so the three minutes I spent with Ace was amazing. The phone was picked up in two rings, I was directly connected with the person I needed who solved all three of my issues in under 2 minutes. It's the systems that they have in place that make this a great company to work with, not just a great exterminator. I wish all my providers were run so well. Thanks!

Just recently, I started seeing ants again. I called Ace, and they’ve applied additional ant treatments. One application was done inside of my home, and three have been applied on the exterior. Since they started their program a few weeks ago, I haven’t seen any ants in my home. I’m fairly well satisfied that they have the issue under control. They’ve provided helpful advice and have been very professional. They follow through on what they say they will do, and I would definitely recommend them to others.

A tenant reported that she may have bedbugs in her apartment. I called Ace to find out what they charge for an inspection and when they could do the inspection. I also called other exterminating companies and found some that charged more and some less, one even offered a free inspection. But none of the other companies could do the inspection the very next day as Ace could. I thought it was important to get the inspection done as soon as possible so I hired Ace. They showed up on time and the price was exactly as quoted. My only complaint is that the inspector talked to the tenant and recommended that the apartment be treated as a preventative even though no bedbugs were found. Naturally, the tenant felt that I should have it treated because the inspector recommended it. I think any discussion or recommendations should be with the Landlord not the tenant.

They seemed very good. They seemed very competent. We are happy with them and will continue to use them. They came when they said they would and put slippers on when they came in the house. They were courteous, too.

The service date and amount spent are approximates, as I don't have the information in front of me. My initial experience was good. The person performing the service arrived on time and completed the job as expected. The problem arose when I received a bill for a monthly service that I did not sign up for. I called the company back and was told that it would be taken care of, but I continued to receive a bill for approximately $75. I called back again and spoke with Sherry who had Ken call me. Ken brought up an image of the contract and said it wasn't signed, and that most of the contracts they have are not. I suggested to Ken that I feel that an improvement to the way they do business would be to have a client sign indicating that they want a continueing service. He asked me what he should do about the bill since the service was performed. I told him that if I didn't sign anything, I should not be responsible for the bill. He then said that he will waive the charge. My experience with talking to Ken was not a good one. It felt like he walked into our conversation with the assumption that the technician was right and provided me with the bill adjustment grudgingly. I told Ken that I would be listing my experience on Angie's list and he said I could talk to his supervisor if I was angry, which I declined. I received the resolution that I wanted, and just wanted to post my experience so that other potential clients are aware.

Our apartment is near the garbage cans for the building. Lots of flies were getting into our apartment. Ace took care of the problem, both by treating around the windows and doors and also telling us some places we needed to seal to keep the flies out.

They must have combined with another exterminating company. It’s about $100 for the initial treatment and then I pay $53 for the next treatment. They do a series of spraying for ants. Their price is good. They are very friendly and professional. They are very careful. I have dogs and they walk around with me. They make sure that my dogs don’t get into something that they put down. I had another exterminator before that didn’t care about the dog or anything. These people make sure that they don’t put something down where the dog is going to get into. They do the exterior and they don’t insist on coming inside and putting all the chemicals inside. They check everything. They are very caring and considerate. I had a problem last year with the carpenter ants and they found where the tree was that had the carpenter ants and told me what to do and what they did about it. The treatment is effective. They’ve also taken care of wasps that I’ve had in the past. I would continue to use the service in the future.

The exterminator who arrived was right on time! He was polite, friendly, and professional. He also explained to me what he was doing along the way.

I have a contract with them. They came out and gave me the best estimate. I’ve got them for my termite service. I’ve got the little termite traps all around my house and the perimeter. They come out quarterly now to check those. They’ve been very easy to work with and I don’t have to be at home when they come. They check everything and leave a note about what’s going on. I would continue to use them in the future.

The office arranged for someone to call me to describe the insects and determine what needed to be done. She asked great questions which helped me to describe the insect better and determine that they were newborn ants with wings. When the technician arrived, he was extremely professional and courteous and explained everything he was doing and why he was doing it and also gave us tips for monitoring the results. I would definitely call them again and recommend them to others.

I found sawdust on my basement floor. Wendy at ACE had me photograph and email what I saw and she called me that evening to assure me that I did not have termites. Mark came by the next day to confirm picnic ants (thousands of them). He treated the basement, the foundation and a nest behind a switch plate in the kitchen. The folks at ACE felt like a family and I plan on using their services in the future.

I called on a short notice and was able to be squeezed in the next day. The service technician (Dave King) was on-time and courteous. He took the time to explain what he was looking for and explained potential future problem areas (tree limbs overhanging over the garage roof, old rotten tree stump, etc.) and how to address them ahead of time. He did not try to sell me on any of their products but briefly mentioned other services offered. I will definitely use their services in the future for my pest control/prevention needs.

The experience was fabulous. They really knew what they were doing. They took extra time to make sure that they were very thorough.

I called ACE after seeing generally positive reviews. I spoke with David early in the morning regarding an ant problem in the exterior and interior of the house. David seemed very knowledgeable on how we should fix this ant problem. we set up a program that cost approximately $150 for the first visit with follow up treatments to be set up later. I thought it would be a few days until the they would be able to come out, but David called me back to say they could come out that same day! Kevin arrived on time, was very professional and was much more impressive than any exterminator I've had previously. I'm hopeful my ant problem will be fixed and if so I will recommend ACE to anyone with a similar situation.

I spent about $80 on that work. The owner is extremely knowledgeable. I had contacted him a couple of times and he answered my questions. I had field mice in my basement and he told me how to handle it on my own without them coming out and helped me save a lot of money. He was very helpful with getting nothing out of it. The technician was very helpful and they share their knowledge which I really appreciate. The technicians are very friendly and helpful.

The worker was late, but once he got here he treated the house, answered questions, and left. We were pleased overall.

I was pleased with them. They showed me the termites, and gave me a lesson in the different kinds of termites. The only downside was when the guy came out to put the traps in, he didn't have enough of the right traps. He said he would be back the following the morning, but he never showed. I called them, and then he did come out in the afternoon. It wasn't a big deal. I just wish I had been notified, because it was just a bit frustrating.

I am on a first-name basis with my exterminator. I had tried several pest control companies but did not get the solution that I wanted. Then someone suggested ACE to me and I tried it and have been with them ever since. We live in a very old house that was built in 1875 and were treated three years in a row for termites. Every other exterminator was not able to get rid of it and we kept having the same problem. ACE did something that no other exterminator had done before. They pulled out our refrigerator, cut a big hole in the kitchen floor, went down there in the crawl space and did the treatment. That took care of the problem and we have never had termites again.

I've used ACE for 4 years. I'm particularly impressed by Gary, ACE's representative, who always comes to my home to check for termites or spray for bugs. He is professional, pleasant, and punctual. He is a good "face" for ACE.

We though they did a great job. They were prompt. I got them off Angie?s list and they had high ratings. That is the reason why we chose them. I rate them high overall.
