MHW Flooring and Restoration

We hired this company to sand and refinish our living room and office and to replace the kitchen floor. We had the worst experience with him. First, he said he’ll finish the job in one week but he did it in four weeks. Timing was critical as we were renting a place during the repairs. We were doing a lot of work in the house and needed to finish on time so we could schedule another job. Most importantly, he had to do the job twice. The first time he didn’t sand the floor he was supposed to and only applied one coating instead of three. Everyday we came in different times to the house to check on his work but rarely saw him or the job being done. When we asked him he said he worked late. But the floors weren’t touched. We only saw one morning the floor wet and that is when he applied the coating. But he didn’t sand the floor before and two more coats were missing. We all met at the house to check on his job. The floor had scratches and bumps all over from the previous owner. We repeatedly asked him if he had sanded the floor. He kept saying he did. And that he could not have sanded deeper because the floor had been sanded many times. That wasn’t true. We opened the air ducts and the wood were almost new. Also the new floor in the kitchen that he replaced had several nail marks and some planks were not tight enough. We could see some spaces in between. The difference in color of the new floor (kitchen) and the one he refinished (living room) was extremely different. It was obvious that he never sanded it. But he insisted he did it. We started doubting about our common sense and consulted two other companies. The two floor experts got the same opinion: the floor had never been sanded it. We confronted him with all these arguments and he agreed on doing the job again. But we had to wait one week because his sander broke down. We decided to move to the house because we didn’t trust him after all his lies. My husband had to work from home during this time to supervise him. It was very inconvenient specially with two little ones at home. We had to take the kids out of the house in the morning and returned in the evening. The smell was too strong for a baby. Also I had to ask him to haul the debris out of the house. He put the wood he removed in the garage and left it for two weeks!!! I had to park my car outside because there was not space. It was seriously a nightmare! At the end the floor looks good and he discounted $500 of the contract. The color between the new floor and the existing it’s the same. You couldn’t tell which one is the new one. He covered the nail marks with a resin. Although I can still see them it’s not too bad. He helped us moved the furniture and came back a few days after he finished to move the fridge. But he never accepted he lied to us in the first time and I had to ask him to correct the job.

MHW removed a wall in my home and did not install proper support. My ceiling cracked and bowed, and MHW would not return to repair his work or reimburse me for the damages. I had to hire another contractor to repair the damage at the cost of $1500. MHW also began a project in my home that he was paid for, but will not return to complete. Work was not done to the dimensions we agreed upon and is currently useless and has been left unfinished. Poor follow up, MHW does not return phone calls or text messages. He has been telling me for the past 12 months that he will finish the project and repair the damages. I strongly recommend not using him or his services as it may be detrimental to your home and finances. He also has used his physical health several times as an excuse for not returning, which has made me very uncomfortable, as I am aware he is readily working on other projects.

We have used this provider on three occasions, for hardwood floors in the upstairs and downstairs and tile for the bathroom. I would always recommend Martin. Give me names.

Michael promptly returned my initial call and we set up a time for him to come out and give us an estimate. He arrived on time and looked at the hardwood floors in our foyer and kitchen (which we wanted to match.) He gave us an estimate and we decided to go with Michael's company. He called shortly thereafter, letting us know that he was able to get the same wood as in our foyer and kitchen, and we set up a time for installation. The installation took roughly four days and we are very happy with the final product.

HE USED PLASTIC FOR CLEANLINESS. VERY PERSONABLE. THOUGHT THE PRICE WAS REASONABLE, BUT DID NOT GET ANY OTHER ESTIMATES.
