Lodder Landscaping

My wife and I had a landscape design plan drawn by a landscape architect in January. We had heard great things about Mr. Lodder and decided to have him look at our plan and bid on it. John was extremely reasonable and competitive in his estimate. He met with us on more than one occasion as we planned around having a new driveway and drainage system installed. Mr. Lodder either removed or transplanted the little bit of existing plant life that we already had. He was always extremely prompt and willing to go the extra mile to make sure my wife and I were always happy. He installed 2 paver walkways and a limestone wall that outlines one bed. He created or redid the remaining three landscape beds in our front and side yards. All new plants, shrubs and two new trees were planted. Finally, he mulched everything. I cannot say how many neighbors have complimented our front yard. We felt as though our house had little curb appeal prior to the relandscaping. Now, I would say it is one of the most beautiful on the block. Mr. Lodder dramatically changed our home's look. We can't say "Thank you" enough to him and his wife, Ann.

The estimate was very reasonable. Kept to the schedule and estimate as promised. Stayed in touch with me about important matters. They are very responsive.

John is great - on time, prompt and always a gentleman. He and Ann work so smoothly to schedule and complete work. He did exactly what I wanted and did not oversell. Makes suggestions based on the history we have. This is the second time he has done a complete yard. Top notch person. Backs all his plantings never complains and checks on anything you ask him to.

It went very well. He showed up on time for the initial meeting and completed the work on time and for the estimated cost. He recommended two cost savings measures which worked out well (having a demolition company remove the deck and using limestone block steps). After he finished, I wanted him to move the steps slightly, which he did at no cost. I have only minor issues, which I feel sure he would fix if I call him about - aluminum edging is coming up in a couple of places and a couple of bricks have sunk. "B" for quality of work below should really be a B++, and I felt like I definitely got my money's worth.

Worked completed days sooner than I expected. No problems at all.

It was a real pleasure working with Lodder Landscaping. They were able to schedule the work within a week or so (this was in August '07); John was very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, professional...he came out one day to do most of the work (I was amazed how little time it took!) and was out the next day or so to finish planting. I felt the cost was very reasonable. If you are like me and know only that you want your yard to look better but don't know exactly what to plant, Lodder Landscaping is an excellent choice...I highly recommend them. I plan to have them do the front yard this year.

I was looking forward to having this estimate done because there were so many positive reports on Angie's List. Mr. Lodder came out and had a lot of ideas about what I should do, to the point that he didn't listen to what I wanted done, which is probably why the estimate came in more than double any of the others. Though I explicitly said that I wanted to garden and intended to do my own planting, he gave me extensive advice on what I "should" plant, and then included all of that in the estimate (along with a patio design that didn't match what I wanted). I ended up choosing another company because, a) They were the only ones who planned to do the work in a way that would make rainwater run off the patio rather than sit and, b) They listened to me. I wouldn't give them an A, either, but at least I ended up with exactly what I wanted! If you want suggestions, this may be a good bet; if you know what you want, maybe not.

WE HAVE USED JOHN LODDER FOR OUR LANDSCAPING NEEDS FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 YEARS; WE ALWAYS CALL HIM WHEN A NEW NEED ARISES OR ANNUALLY FOR OUR MULCH INSTALLATION. WE ARE ALWAYS PLEASED WITH HIS WORK!

John did a marvelous job turning our "weed patch" side yard into a thing of beauty. He suggested the shrubs, a tree, and the perrenials that transformed this area. They brought in top soil, planted everything, and added stepping stones so the area now has a very nice look. He and his crew also edged and mulched our entire yard, front & back. He even was able to accommodate our schedule to have all this finished in time for a party we were having on our patio.

John does our yearly maintenance. He does a great job, the beds look beautiful. He edges them all by hand and really creates great lines between the beds and the grass. John and his wife are very hardworking and a pleasure to deal with. He is willing to give good advice, even if he is not going to do the work. We found Lodder through Angie's List and we would not use anyone else to help us with the yard.

We wanted the black mulch. He told us it could stain the sidewalk but he installed it. We have not yet had a problem with yet. Everything went well. I didn't realize he did brick pavers. He gave me some information as well.

The owner himself always comes out. They are wonderful. We annually spend a minimum of $1,500 for them to prepare flower beds and do maintenance. The landscaping design is brilliant and always within budget.

John Lodder is just terrific. Very well informed, had an opinion about everything (kinds of plants to plant, how to arrange them, etc.), extremely professional and quick. He's also totally friendly and seems to take real pride in his work. My only complaint is, he doesn't do everything! Because we liked working with him so much, we wish we could hire him to do our home repairs, remodel our kitchen, etc. Seriously, he's great.

We used John several years ago to complete a stone wall and chose him again to do our new landscaping. He is an incredibly hard worker who is meticulous about the results. We found him to be extremely knowledgable and creative too!
