James and his crew were fantastic. A little hard to get hold of in the beginning because he is very busy. However it was well worth this very minor difficulty for the quality of work and service in the end. And he actually showed up 5 weeks ahead of schedule! He was a great guy to work with and has a terrific attitude. The crew was courteous and tidy and very attentive to detail. Will def hire again when needed.

We are a third-time customer. (Note: The last time I looked at Angie's List for this Contractor there were LOTS of reviews going back years - two from me. Maybe they delete old ones after some time has gone by to save website space?) As in the past - it's such a pleasure to work with craftsmen. Over the winter a concrete section of our lower front steps froze and cracked. It had needed some attention for several years. Rather than just try to patch it myself (again) we took this opportunity to have it removed and rebuilt in stacked stone with bluestone treads to match a previous beautiful Rock Solid constructed stacked stone wall. We also pulled out a small section of railroad tie retaining wall along the driveway and had that redone in stone also. My only regret now is that I don't think I have any other projects for these guys - might have to buy another house.

I have a property that is backed by a mountain which drains through my yard. The original cement work was 80+ years old and completely worn out. His team worked continuously for 3 days removing the old concrete, building forms and ensuring that the water would drain properly through my property. the end results were beyond my expectations and I will have them performing additional work in the fall.

First off, this is the second job I have contracted James and his team to do in my home. Last year he installed a new paver walkway and a front entrance bluestone stoop. I was so impressed with the way that work came out that I asked James to come back this year and replace my back patio. The patio came out great !! :-) During the project, James made sure I was happy with the way things were coming out, and in fact, made some last minute changes to accommodate my needs. The team is very professional and the work is meticulous. I am already thinking of the next project I want James to do in my home. I highly recommend him!.

Pros: Personable, honest and reliable. Very experienced. Evaluated needs better than other contractors. Efficient crew. Clean workspace and quality site cleanup. Extremely high quality work. Cons: Old school. No email, preferred cash (not a problem for me). No receipts or paperwork unless requested. Notes: James Walsh knows his business and is committed to doing high quality work at a fair price. I'm not sure what more you could ask for in a contractor.

The job went very well. The crew started at 7 am and worked until the job was finished. They brought in stone to build the buttress. These guys know what they're doing. The wall looks great and will probably not any more attention for a very long time.

We've used James and his team on a number of occasions as our home is 100 years old and has a lot of stone with several things needing attention. The most important things that come to mind are: (a) The job is always done right with exceedingly good craftsmanship (b) He will never nickel and dime you on the cost (c) They will leave the premises cleaner than when they started (d) The workers are polite and conscientious I highly recommend this company -The job will get done correctly the first time, without hassles, so you can have piece of mind.

My chimney needed major repairs. Mr. Walsh was extremely professional. Him and his team did an absolute fantastic job repairing my chimney. The cost was reasonable and I intend on hiring him again for other contracting needs. I would recommend him to anyone who wants a hassle free experience along with A level service and craftsmanship.

.James is excellent! Right up front , first my front stairs & blue stones were a mess. Totally broken up from the last two winters, even dangerous. The whole thing had to be taken apart & rebuilt. Water & salt is a destroyer of such work. James came gave me a price told me how he would do it & that was it! As soon as the weather let up he was right there & it got done!. Nice & clean all around. Wonderful guy! I intend to use him to repair back yard parers. James IS your man!

I found Rock Solid on Angie's List. James Walsh was one of four masons who came to the house and provided estimates on the project. Two were wildly out of line--one too low and the other too high--but the two in the middle were for a similar scope of work. I chose James because he was thoughtful and thorough about explaining the challenges of the project, the scheduling and some other options to explore. His price was nearly 20% below the estimate provided by the contractor who had done good work for me in the past. That, plus his ratings on Angies List, tipped the scale. I had to wait about 6 weeks for a spot on his schedule. The project took three days, start to finish. They removed a battered asphalt driveway and cut and poured a new trench drain. They replaced the driveway with concrete and added some nice stone edging using loose stones from on site. In addition, they removed and replaced a step-up walkway with a nicely sloped walk that blends into the driveway. Finally, they also repaired steps that Bellantoni built for me last year; apparently the bottom step out my backdoor was nearly hollow. (Bellantoni was the mason mentioned above who offered to do the same work for more than twice the amount Rock Solid charged.) The concrete has been curing for about five days and looks great. During the 6 week interval from our agreement to the start date, James called several times to let me know the date was approaching, so I wasn't worried that nothing was happening. This was a great experience. I'd recommend Rock Solid to anyone.

Mr. Walsh came and rebuilt our front stairs, replaced some broken blue slate (including the whole top stair), and relaid and resealed the front area. The job required pulling up an areas about 8' x 8' area and the two front stairs, digging out the sand beneath it and pouring a new concrete base. He warned us when we first called that the job couldn't be started for about 6 weeks (he's good and popular) but he showed up when he said he would and he and his crew worked quickly and professionally. They left the area very well cleaned up and the whole thing looks great. We are very pleased.

The word that comes to mind is quality. Every aspect of the operation-the materials provided, the craftsmanship, the courtesy and professionalism- was of the highest quality. James Walsh is easy to work with and delivers on what he promises- and then some. We could not be more pleased with the work- the final product is absolutely beautiful! Once the job was started it was completed in a timely fashion. At the end my property was cleaned up and I was very satisfied with the quality of the work done.

The job went very well. Jim and his crew showed up right on time. They did the job as promised, it was done neat and clean and they were gone by the time I got home from work. They did a great job and were very professional to deal with I would not hesitate using them again or recommending them.

Mr. Walsh and his team were prompt, courteous and very professional. Mr. Walsh is very fair, knowledgable and personable. Mr. Walsh returned my phone calls promptly. ( In reference to meeting for an estimate and questions about the materials and dates). My family, friends and I are so pleased with the outcome. The patio is beautiful!! Our porch and walkways have been in need of repair for a while and this winter really did a job on them. We considered several contractors for this and settled on this company because of Mr. Walsh's expertise and the previous reviews here on Angie's List. He carefully explained everything we needed to do to repair what was there and we never got the impression that he was trying to add extras. Mr. Walsh was punctual and professional. He and his crew did a beautiful job. They were careful and meticulous and still managed to get this job done fast.

I would highly recommend James and his team of workers. They are true professionals and walked us through the job from start to finish. There was no "up selling" of unnecessary services - On the contrary. James even gave us some advice on inexpensive ideas to further solidify some other potential problem areas on the exterior of the house outside of their scope of work. James and his crew arrived on time, worked hard to finish everything on our list in a timely manner, and cleaned up very thoroughly. Any home owner looking for quality masonry work should use James and his team. There is a reason why they are booked several weeks in advance - it's worth the wait if you want the job done right.

Jim Walsh was very responsive and professional. The employees were very polite and pleasant to work with. They cleaned up very well after the work was finished and were careful not to damage any surrounding structures/landscaping. The only drawback was that we had to wait about 6 weeks for the service to be done (partially due to weather).

It looks beautiful. The steps no longer have leakage. James and his workers did a superior job.

I am very pleased with the work that James Walsh and his crew had done to my home. My walkway, front stoop and patio look fabulous! :-) The team was very professional and punctual and I plan on having Rock Solid rebuild my back patio in August. ( I would have James do it sooner but his team is booked that far ahead).

This project went very well. Mr Walsh stopped by and we discussed what needed to be done. The original concrete steps had two large field-stone stoops on the left and right side. These stoops had to be preserved! Also, the original steps had a lip on the step this required careful framing and the original steps formed into an existing concrete front walkway which had to be protected from damage. It has been a very rainy the past couple of weeks so we gave ourselves a "window" in which we thought the work would begin. His estimate was right in line with what we had budgeted. The whole job took 3 days, The first day was demolition, prep and forming. The second day was cement pouring and the third day the forms came off. His guys were courteous, professional and they cleaned up after each days work Additional work done was some cosmetic repair to the field-stone stoops and the cutting and fitting of stone windowsills. This job although briefly described here was far more difficult. It was a honey-do job that was never honey-done. We are very please and highly recommend James Walsh. Michael and Helen Murphy

Other than the initial delays to start the work, everything went very well; once started, the job was completed in less than a week and it was not done sooner because of the weather. James & his crew did an amazing job building my retaining wall, especially considering its awkward location, due to the very steep incline of my backyard. James was very professional in our dealings and made key recommendations on the steps to follow in order to assure the job was done well, without mistakes and was compliant with my town?s building codes. He worked very close with the engineer who created the plans and made sure to confirm with him any step that could?ve been interpreted more than one way. Very satisfied with the work; I highly recommend Rock Solid for any construction work and definitely would use again if the need arises.

I am so pleased with this company that I wrote them a good review based upon Mr. Walsh's professionalism during his estimate! My personal feeling is that when a contractor has a month long waiting list it is a very EXCELLENT sign that the company does work so good that people are willing to wait. Mr Walsh kept me informed about his estimated start date. He also had me select my stones and have them held aside for delivery so that everything would be ready. Of course the day that he was scheduled to start my job had a weather forecast of heavy rains. So, in anticipation of this delay, he brought his team of men over the day before- late in the afternoon to start the work. They literally hit the ground running and worked non stop until 5 PM. They actually were digging in the dark with my front lawn spotlights lighting the way. The following morning his team of men were there at 7:30, in the drizzling rain, hard at work. They work fast, clean, professionally, and are meticulous about their craft. Mr. Walsh was right on top of everything. I was so happy with how the job was shaping up that I asked him to create a very small patio at the back of my house. The whole job was done in about 2 days. I had very specific ideas about what I wanted. I found a photo of a walkway online which of course is the first kiss of death because it was virtually impossible to replicate it! The stones in the photo were very old and not something that could be easily found. So from day one Mr Walsh was working with a disappointed customer! He managed to create the same concept of the walkway (rustic) but not break the bank. This should really be stressed: I had shown the photos to other masons while I was gathering estimates and no one mentioned that it was impossible to re-create that walkway. They just gave me estimates. On what I wonder? Mr Walsh burst that bubble the day he came by for the estimate. So I knew that I was working with an honest person who appreciated that being honest with a customer makes a happy customer. I also appreciate the fact that he worked the walkway in such a way that it is similar to the original concept. I did not want concrete between the stones, I plan to spread grass seeds in the spring between the spaces to create a more casual and rustic look. Very happy.

They were great told us it would take about a month for him to get to the job and he was great on schedule. He called while we were waiting to update us on his arrival and he held to the one month schedule. He said the job would take about a day and a half and it did. They were clean and professional and we were very pleased with the results. We have had numerous estimates for the work and they all over estimated the work to be done James asked us what we wanted and recommended the proper solution for our issues. Additionally James is friendly out going, courteous and very professional.
