In February of 2014 we signed a contract with JSG Construction Company to do a second story addition on our cape. For the total cost of 114,000.00 dollars. We met with Jonathan Grossman who assured us that he had a construction company that consisted of framers, electricians, plumbers, and tile workers that would be working on our house throughout. John said the entire job would take about 5 months, " if the stars were in alignment," we understood that, and realized it might take longer but here we are almost 9 months later and the job is not even close to being complete. Right from the beginning we had issues. After demolition he showed up to do the framing work on the second story with one other worker to assist him. After asking him where his framing crew was, he could produce no real answer. Work progressed slowly and days went by when no one came to work on the house at all. Things increasingly got worse when the second story was framed and the contracted electrician would work only at night from 4 pm to 8pm and show up sporadically. John was rarely around to supervise any work, and he never had specific dates on when to expect these workers. John would always find excuses for why he wasnt there and why work wasnt getting done. He would say he will be there Monday or Tuesday, then on Tuesday he would say he will be there Wednesday or Thursday, and sometimes they would not show up until the following week. It should be noted that at this time we were still honoring the contract with payments even though some of the work as per the contract was not completed. Then John hired a completely incompetent person to install our tile. He improperly installed tile in both the master bath and kids bath. The worst of it was in our master bath the decorative tile had divets and bumps and some tiles were even upside down. also most of the wall tiles were uneven. he attempted to fix them once and was unable to do so. In the end we had to ask him to be replaced for his inability to install tile properly. At this point John had taken approx 95,000 dollars from us, and i explained that he would be given no more money until the upstairs was finished. John's second tile guy came only once and told me he could fix the tile. for three weeks he gave me every excuse in the book why he could not come. Finaly at my own expense I had to I had to hire someone to fix the tile who had no affiliation with JSG construction. the final straw came when John was supposed to pick up and pay for as per the contract our plumbing supplies for the bathrooms.(ie Toilet, bath fixtures and bath tub). which were being held at greenart plumbing supplies for the past five months. Everyday there was an excuse as to why he was unable to do this. after may attempts to resolve this situation, I had to buy these items myself at a cost of 4,700 dollars. After several sit down discussions with John we realized nothing was going to change. Days would go by and the excuses about why he couldn't be here became ridiculous. On his last day at my house i sat down with john. I told him that this was not working out. He told me that if I would not agree to give him more money he would not be back. He handed me my keys to the house and then left. Jonny's JSG Construction has left us with a bathroom that has no plumbing fixtures installed. a house with no siding on it, none of the promised work downstairs done as per the contract. There are large holes in every ceiling and a few of the walls on the first floor, Black mold in the attic on the inside of the brand new roof because he never vented the bathrooms or the main vent stack properly. Flooding to the basement because we have no gutters, and siding. Overall this entire process has caused us a lot of unnecessary stress. Having 2 small children and dealing with this contractors incompetence has caused us much grief. In total John has recieved more than 100,000.00 dollars from us, and alittle over half of the work has been completed.
Description of Work: Was contracted to put second floor on my house install new windows downstairs fix any damage. build portico on the front of house with new set of stone stairs. Contractor walked off job after receiving over 100,000.00 Dollars and left me with a little over half the work done. Buyer beware I am not the first person he has done this to. A complaint has been filed with Nassau County depth of consumer affairs. A new contractor had to be hired and it has cost me an additional 40,000.00 dollars to finish what jsg construction was supposed to. I can supply pictures if needed.
