This contractor took advantage of me. I'm handicap and he took took advantage of me. I had closed on my house and the contractor will not fix anything.
Description of Work: I contacted Tru Builders to build a home for me. His brochure stated that he can build a home in 3 months. He broke ground on July 20th of 2009 and then completed the home on Dec 28th, 2009. The bank started to give him money in March. I closed on the house and then I started to know that things were wrong with the house and not up to code. The first thing I noticed was standing water around the house, he put a 2003 Boiler in this new home. The propane bill for the boiler was $375 a month for a 1,120 sq foot home. I discussed this with him before closing and he claims that the floor was just being heated up. I had the blue print drawn out and noticed that things were completely opposite from the prints. Nothing is correct. The doors are suppose to be 36' per the contract and then he install most of the doors at 32'. I did this house to be wheel chair a** and the 32' doors would not fit a wheel chair. Tru Builder was aware of the 36' door. In the spring he planned to do the phone line in, I haven't heard from him. He claims that he is not going to put septic pipes in, which he is suppose to. The contractor should've brought in top soil because he never left me any. My hallway bathroom needs to be 32' as my master door is 32'. The hall bath tub, which was never used, can be replaced with a walk in shower which I could use. My house was to be wheel chair accessible per contract. My master bathroom door hit the toilet; this is not acceptable because I need a pocket door in the master bathroom. The master tub does not hold water, this needs fixing. The toilet in the master bath should be replaced with a 17' high elongated toilet, which was on the contract. All trim around stone and doorways were the thrust hold needs to be replaced because I trip over it. The trim comes right off when I hit my foot on it walking. The trim on floor on front of the slider needs to be replaced with a solid place. On the inside of the bedroom closet doors need to be painted. The outside doors to the house need to be repainted. The front door and side door thrust hold need to be stained. There is piece of wood in my laundry room needs to be painted and replaced. It is cracked. The place needs to be repainted. The two front windows need to be replaced with gritted windows. This contractor went the cheapest way out for me.

Response from Tru-Build Homes
1) Boiler issue: This member’s contract specifications listed an allotment for her boiler system-no specific type or style was indicated. The system was installed in conjunction with code and inspected by the code enforcement officer. The boiler is operational and works efficiently. She does not understand that her high bills are reflective of the fact that she sets the thermostat to 80 degrees. As such, her winter bill of$375 is not exorbitant given the cold climate conditions and the temperature at which she keeps her home. In the first few months of her residency, we even paid half of her bills as we wished for her a smooth adjustment to living on her own and wanted her to gain a better understanding of operating her thermostat/boiler system. 2) Septic issues: All septic issues were taken care of and all piping installed according to engineer's design. She continues to insist that we "stole topsoil"; no such thing occurred. In fact, we have offered several times to return and do some additional grading at no charge, but she has refused to return our calls. 3) Handicap accessibility/doorways: We built the home exactly according to her architect's prints. Prior to the build, we went through and explained to her that some of the dimensions would not be satisfactory to her as delineated on the prints and that we should discuss changing some things around. She insisted that we stick to the prints as she had paid a great deal of money to her architect. We will happily address the issues as she'd like them, but she will have to pay for these changes as they are quite different from the way such was originally drawn by her architect. 4) Painting issues: She was initially satisfied with the paint job and even complimented our painter upon completion. 5) Front windows: She never paid for these upgraded windows and simply expected us to replace the original windows (agreed upon in the contract) free of charge. We would happily replace the windows if she agrees to pay the upgrade charge. 6) Additional: She left $1800 on the table. She has never paid this final amount and simply told us that we had to absorb these monies ourselves as she had no more money with which to pay us. Her mortgage amount was not sufficient to cover the entire cost of the contract. This member has therefore failed to fulfill her contractual obligation to us. And has failed to pay for her new home in its entirety.
