I wish that every person who reads this, could have been there, to see and hear the truth for themselves. This homeowner was somewhat less than honest in her dealings with a) the door supplier, b) the previous contractors and c) subsequently with us. The discovery of that dishonesty (.......in her own emails, which she inadvertently sent out .....to EVERYONE involved... !) prompted us to explain that we were no longer interested in doing any business with her, and that she should make other arrangements for this work. Her anger with Mastercraft, was because of that refusal to do the work for her. She had already admitted that not many other contractors wanted to "touch" this project. She was having a difficult time getting someone ……probably because they spotted those problems more quickly, and knew that this could be more of a headache than it was worth. I will address only a few of the false statements in her "review": 1) She claimed that "... I was incensed that she consulted another contractor...." Hunh? What? Doesn't make any sense. The truth is that after 48+ years in this business, we ALWAYS expect to have competition.....and expect that the homeowners consult with as many contractors, suppliers, experts, family members, neighbors and friends and as they would like. It’s only natural, and that’s exactly what my wife and I would do as well , when making any significant purchase, or planning a renovation. That input makes for a better final decision. When she initially contacted us, we were already engaged in a large renovation in another town, and told her that we were not immediately available to even see her project. She pleaded her case… that we weren't so far away, and that she was in a bind , and could we please just come and take quick a look …maybe on our way home. So, I agreed and accommodated her request. 2) She also claimed that ” ….he overstated the problem” Not true !. Based on experience with installing doorsets of this type, 1) I first measured some of the unit mullions and moldings (which were sent ahead spread out over several rooms in her house) 2)I measured the existing opening, 3) I used a 6’6” level to check the floor , walls and ceiling, and 4) I checked how square each was, relative to the others. That’s one way we determine whether the unit , which she had already ordered, will actually fit! (BTW- BACK THEN, she commented that she was impressed with the process, and that no one else was so thorough, or paid attention to those details). Results: The unit she ordered would NOT fit into that opening, and had to be remade. She was going to take that up with her supplier. The existing unit was “wracked” when installed, which needed correction, and the floor was sagging, both at the opening and for several feet back into the foyer, which required additional reframing and new subfloor (as confirmed by her flooring contractor!). These problems caused the door to swing open on it’s own when the latch was released….(not something that most people want or expect!) All homeowners whom I've helped, were grateful to be informed, rather than have a contractor who is unaware or just cover's up the problem for someone else to correct. And she was grateful too.....until we had to tell her to get another contractor. Then this information suddenly became an "overstatement"! Well, we only brought the facts to her attention. She could then choose to do the corrective measures or not. But right up until we removed ourselves from consideration , she was happy to be informed, understood the defects , the causes and the corrections. Those were problems that needed to be corrected and , at that point in time she, her flooring contractor and I all agreed. The price I quoted , included not only that work ,but also correcting the siding that flanked the door, which SHE now insisted had to be a) taken down, b) reconfigured and C) reinstalled….to accommodate the correctly installed doors, on the properly supported floor. But I don’t remember reading any of this in her “review” ! 3)She claimed that “….even with his egotistical attitude, I would have used him anyway.” ? First, please allow me to say that anyone who knows me ,or has had any business dealings with me , would disagree with that statement. 1) We just weren’t raised to have an “egotistical attitude” as she would like you to believe. 2) If we ever have the privilege of estimating your project or working for you, you can judge that for yourself. And 3) In all of the reviews of people for whom we have ACTUALLY worked, I think that their words speak volumes louder over this disgruntled individual for whom we ALMOST worked! We respect all the people that we deal with, whether they become clients or not. And we enjoy making them happy with the quality workmanship that we’ve provided for the last 48 years. We love what we have chosen to do. Sincerely, ~ Carmine at Mastercraft
