Description of Work: We hired Rahmann to repair and repaint the front of our condo and rebuild the stairs and front walls. We later learned (not unexpectedly) that the bricks required replacement and resetting. Rahmman was always responsive and while the work took longer than anticipated, we were all happy with how it looks.

Description of Work: The work looked beautiful when finished, BUT during the 5 year warranty period the cement on the driveway & sidewalk started to peel off throughout the whole surface. After the cement was poured the contractor commented to me, as he watched the cement dry, that there must be something wrong with the cement because it wasn't drying right. He did come back and inspect it after too many phone calls to mention, but never repaired or replaced it--honoring his 5 year warranty. To top it off the city inspectors removed The violation on the sidewalk despite the peeling cement. Too him that was good enough reason not to repair it. And if I took him to court for the cost of replacing it, which I would have to do--all he'd have to say was his work satisfied the city inspector with peeling cement-- hazardous since now the surface is now not even. This is difficult to write since at first I was very pleased with the service. But as a warning to all home owners--unfortunately, I've observed this same condition all around my neighborhood. So if you don't want to be sued if someone falls or trips on the section that is lower than the rest of the surface because of peeling cement, plan on replacing your entire driveway and sidewalk surface every three years. I feel that the contractors should take legal action against the cement companies and not pass it on to the customers to replace it again in 3 years without a guarantee that it should last for the 5 year warranty period or longer, please. I'm afraid to hire someone else to do the work over again, because there is no guarantee the same thing won't happen again.

Description of Work: We've used Rahmann for a couple of small jobs (minor roof patch and sidewalk repair) in both cases they were prompt, professional, friendly, and did a fine job. I would recommend using them for any general contracting work you may have.
Description of Work: Rahmann waterproofed our slightly below ground level extension off our brownstone as well as adding structural support beams. They did a good job and we have had many heavy rainstorms since. As with many contractors - it took longer than expected and than indicated, and when I had a concerns they were often non-responsive to my emails. That said they did the job well and responded when we were desperate. I suppose that is the most you can hope for. They were professional in their manner and in their paperwork. It was an expensive job but I thought fairly priced.

Description of Work: We had a basement leak that destroyed several rooms and created a severe mold problem; discovering the source of the water intrusion was key. Kaiser, their engineer, worked with us to find the ultimate source of the problem. Significant in the success was Kaiser's ability to listen to our concerns and get a comprehensive history. Kaiser has walked us through every step, responded readily to all of our questions and took the time to explain the process at every turn. Repairs have been tested along the way to ensure that the root problem has been solved. The amount of snow, rain and sever weather has tested the repair and found it solid. We have contracted with Rahman for more repairs on other areas of the building.
Description of Work: The waterproofed the front of the house, waterproofed and painted 2 floors on the back of the house, plugged and caulked the windows on the first and second floors on the back of the house. One of the workers took it upon himself to clean off the moss covering the house number and painted our front awning - above and beyond what was required and much appreciated. The provider brought in his crew to do the work.

It went very well. Once we had contacted them to go ahead with the work, they were able to start quickly and worked steadily to complete the job. Their attention to detail was commendable. Both the workers and the boss were approachable and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Exterior painting of a wood-frame Victorian house. We asked for detail painting (several colors, a stripe) and they did the work carefully and expertly. Because the available time for exterior painting was rapidly closing (temperature), they worked on some weekends to complete the job. They followed our instructions and were polite and courteous. Especially good was that they were careful of plants planted close to the house. Many workmen are destructive to the garden; these men were careful and attentive.
Rahmann promptly provided us with a very competitive estimate. The foreman, Mohammed Hye, regularly attended site visits and walk throughs with the architect and me- the board president. He was always available to talk to the board for the duration of the work. His business partner is an engineer so their combined experience was very helpful. The work was conducted on budget, and Rahmann has a delightful team of workers who were respectful, tidy, hardworking and reliable. They also finished the work to a very high standard and were responsive and collaborative if the architect or us had differing ideas about how to approach work. A couple of unforeseen things came up during the work 1) the brick work under our previous facade was in very bad shape (no fault of Rahmann), so Rahhmann took on the extensive repointing in collaboration with our architect and is guidelines. 2) Due to some discrepancies between anticipated size of the original openings and the actual size, some, but not all, of the windows were incorrectly sized when originally ordered and we had to re-insalll them. Rahmann graciously took responsibility for this error and re-ordered/installed the new windows at no cost to the building. My overall confidence in Rahmann is very high and everyone is very impressed at their standard of work, especially bearing in mind their competitive pricing. They worked well along side other contractors and subcontractors that were involved in the job, do not price gouge and they honorably take responsibility for anything that has to be done twice as is somehow inevitable in a job of this scope. I would happily hire them again to do work at 282 Henry Street, and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone else seeking contractors for this kind of work.
Description of Work: Rahmann Contracting was hired to remodel the facade of our 10 unit brownstone (changing it from a white stucco to a traditional brownstone coating), to restore the windows openings to their original size, and replace the old windows with Marvin windows. The aim was to get our building in line with Landmarks Preservation Committee's standards. Rahmann also took care of all the interior decoration work and oversaw the construction and installation of a new front door.

A representative came promptly to look at the work needed and gave us a quote on the spot (a price lower than another estimate we had). Getting approval from the Landmarks Commission delayed the actual work, but that was not the contractor's fault. Once he had their permission, he did the job right away and as promised. When he finished we were not happy with the final color (it didn't quite match the rest of the building), but he was willing to repaint several times (at no extra cost) until we were fully satisfied. I was very impressed with his willingness to come back again and again until it was right. He was very patient with us.
Description of Work: Rachmann Contracting repaired and refinished some of the facade of our old brownstone.

They had to repair and re-cement it. He took cement off of a job that he had running due to the time factor that was involved. I told him when I needed to have it done and he finished a week early. The quality of the work is excellent and the man is a gentleman. He did a great job.

We are waiting for the permit to have the stoop repaired. They came out at the end of June and gave us an estimate to do this work and we thought that the price was reasonable. They were very professional and polite. Mohammed is the contact person and he has always responded to us very quickly and has let us know when the men were coming. The men themselves were very nice and cleaned up. There was one time when I was a little late getting back to the house and they waited for somebody to get back before they left. I thought that they were really very respectful about that. We are really very happy and satisfied with the work they have done so far and would recommend them.
Description of Work: We are contracting with Rahmann Contracting Co and they started work in August and did some water proofing to the back of the house, repaired the area under the well of the stairs and replaced a door to the deck.

I chose Rahmann Contracting for the following reasons: the estimate was clearly written and detailed. The four references I called were satisfied with the jobs completed by Rahmann. Proof of insurance was promptly provided. Mohammed Hye promptly returned my phone calls to answer the many questions I asked him. He was always polite and professional. He made sure that the replacement bricks had the correct color to match the wall, and the finished job looks very good. They not only repaired the concrete steps, but also made them wider. Mohammed paid attention to detail all around and therefore produced good results, and he also guarantees his work. When a few small items needed to be completed at the end, he came first to look at what needed to be done, then came with his workers to make sure it got done the right way. I am very satisfied with a job well done.
Description of Work: The work involved mainly brick pointing and lintel replacements, but also chimney repair with new stucco application as well as step repair and replacement, and painting of fire escapes on a small apartment building. Rahmann Contracting delivered what was promised: excellent work - even some small items at the end of the project that needed the final patch up. The workers did their cutting, grinding of bricks and repointing during these extremely hot summer days.

I am so pleased with how the front of my house looks I can't thank Rahmann Contracting enough. You certainly won't have to worry about whether it will come out right with Kaiser. IT DOES LOOK GREAT!! If you want your house to look great, have no problems later (yes, and he called a week and a half later to see if everything was OK), then look no further--Rahmann is the contractor for you.
Description of Work: Kaiser is an excellent contractor. He was extremely professional. As new problems arose, he amended the contract. Everything was in writing. No surprises. He removed sidewalk violations, put in a new concrete curb that extended into the soil over a foot and probably more. He made my new driveway the correct pitch so my car undercarriage NO LONGER scrapes on the cement. They made solid cement reinforced steps and as requested constructed a room underneath for garbage cans. (It is big enough for two bikes and storage plus garbage cans.). He had a metal door made for the room. And to my surprise the room is waterproof, and has a flat but sloping ceiling--not the bottom of steps like I've seen at other people's home. The floor is cement. It's a real room!! I had water leakage in the basement--NO LONGER. He expanded the drainage system to include two trench drains. He worked along side the workers who were knowledgeable and competent at different tasks. They worked together as a team. The workers weren't day laborers--and they spoke ENGLISH, and they were his permanent workers and obviously happy with doing what they did.. My porch was a mess. It had to be shored up with metal rods and a new 18 ft. LINTEL installed and recemented. My porch was sagging in the center. The paint on the porch was so good that it had to be chiseled off. Kaiser had an idea of how the place should look and everything he suggested I liked--even the tiles on the porch, which had to be arduously leveled one tile at a time. It is totally even!!! I mustn't forget the soil retaining wall. I've never seen anything done like this--it's meant to stay. ALSO, I must tell you that my sidewalks won't crack in a year (like the ones in my backyard, done by someone else.) He does it correctly with leveling the dirt first, then putting in gage 4 and 1 inch high bar supports of slab then placing the welded wire fabric on top. Even the sidewalk I saw the city lay only put the welded wire fabric. That is why all of the sidewalks crack. Get Kaiser to do it and he'll do it right. He's a Licensed Professional Engineer, NYS and Illinois==what more could you want. AND he's a nice guy.

The initial visit for providing an estimate was thorough and their pointing person, Mohammad, was on time and very professional. The estimate was extremely reasonable and the work began on schedule. We received estimates from other companies that were both competetive and also considerably more. In the end we went with Rahmann because their approach was very straightforward and the work was warranted for five years. The companies which cost more would have included brick replacement, very exact grout color matching, brick waterproofing, the use of a hydraulic lift, etc; and we felt that our building front could be done with a much simpler and straightforward approach. The schedule was kept and the workers were respectful and efficient. The work was completed close to the estimated schedule and the crew cleaned up their equipment quickly. Rahmann was easy to work with and we would not hesitate to contact them in the future when our building needs repairs. They came recommended by our management company who also had used them on other jobs in Brooklyn and were satisfied with the quality of their work and their professional manner.
Description of Work: We had the front of our buliding, which is a small 8-unit pre-war apartment buliding, repointed. Rahmann erected a block and tackle style scaffolding on the front of the buliding over the cornice. They put new grout in between the bricks and also put some new sealant around window sashes where necessary.

Meeting Mr.Rahman he is somewhat soft-spoken and as we went thru the scope of work, we did ask a few other questions as to handle other problems on our house (driveway cracked/leaking into basement, back wall sealant pealing, etc..). He was able to give us options on how we could handle some of the items ourselves and even offered to do the research of what products to use. He was very informative and accommodating. After discussing the project he gave us a quote/estimate on the work (which expanded to include the driveway, backyard and back wall of the house) and how long it would take to complete. Mr. Rahman did mention that we are out of his usual area to service and that he needed to check to make sure he could get guys to work on our area, A few days later he emailed me the final quote that came very close to his original estimate & advised he could start as soon as the following week, which was great. We then hired him the next day. The following weekend Mr.Rahman team was on site and started to do the work. They were so professional and always made sure to cleanup everyday they left the site. Also during the course of their work they fixed/patched up other smaller items as well (some stone steps in the yard were slight cracked) with no extra charge! They were fantastic. Unfortunately during the time we scheduled all the work we had a lot of rainy days but Mr.Rahman and his team always were able to schedule around the rain with no issues and completed everything wonderfully. Mr.Rahman would always keep us in the loop via email on any issues they did encounter as well as the schedule and when the work would be completed. It is very rare you find a contractor that is responsive to emails & calls and also gives you options on how to fix things yourself for much cheaper. I am definitely going to rehire Mr.Rahman next year for the next round of brick/mason fixes at my home.
Description of Work: I had originally needed some work done to a few stone steps in front of my house. The steps were cracked at the edges and we had some patch jobs on other parts where the steps were cracked. I was also looking for some info/suggestions on how to handle some leaking from the backyard into the basement. After searching Angies list and yellowpages I came across Mr.Rahmans company. I contacted him via email & phone and he returned my email a few days later wanting to discuss and schedule an appointment. Mr.Rahman was very accommodating and offered to come by on a Saturday.

I requested an estimate to have my sidewalk and driveway cemented. A rep (Kaisar) came and then faxed me an estimate, which I thought was extremely high ($18, 050). After some confusion over the scope of the job was resolved , the rep provided an amended estimate for $12, 700, which I also thought was too high. I subsequently received 3 other estimates, which were all in the range of $3,800. I did not hire this company.
Description of Work: Just received an estimate.

THE MEMBER CALLED OUR OFFICE HAVING RECOMMENDED BY AN ACQUAINTANCE OF HIM. WE RESPONDED AND SCOUTED THE JOB SITE PROMPTLY. WE UTILIZED A NY STATE LICENSED PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER TO ASSESS THE PROJECT AND DEFINED THE SCOPE OF WORK WHICH INCLUDED BACKYARD PAVING REQUIRING PUMPED CONCRETE, BACKYARD DRY WELL CONSTRUCTION ALONG WITH GALVANIZED GRADING, STREAMLINE BACKYARD DRAINING MECHANISM, RECONSTRUCTION OF DRIVEWAY, SIDEWALK WITH PROPER REINFORCEMENT AND STREET CURBS. WE BELIEVE EXACT SCOPE OF WORK REMAINED AN ISSUE EVEN AS THE MEMBER SCALED DOWN THE PROJECT SCOPE. FOR EXAMPLE, IN OUR REVISED ESTIMATE WE INCLUDED CONSTRUCTION OF CONCRETE CURB THAT COMPLIES WITH DOT SPECS, AND THAT, NEEDED TO REACH A DEPTH OF 18 INCHES, REQUIRING FORM WORK AND RESTORATION OF ASPHALT ROADWAYS. WE ALSO DEPICTED VARIOUS COST VERSUS QUALITY SCENARIOS AND EXPLAINED THIS TO THE MEMBER. FOR EXAMPLE, HOW SPEED (IN ESSENCE TIME SPENT ON THE PROJECT) OF EXECUTING THE PROJECT CAN COMPROMISE THE QUALITY OF THE JOB AS WELL AS REQUIREMENTS OF PROPER INSURANCES AND BONDS (THE FIXED COST COMPONENT OF COST) THAT A CONTRACTOR MUST HAVE TO PULL THE REQUIRED DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION PERMITS.

I contacted Rahmann Contracting because they'd listed "paint stripping" on Angie's List as one of their main services. Their website confirmed it, listing paint stripping on the homepage as one of the company's nine specialties. I called and spoke to someone who was very responsive and confirmed that they do perform that service, and all was well -- until I mentioned the size of my job. I was then told I'd get a call back. I did, whereupon I was told that paint stripping "was outside of our scope of expertise." When I brought up their websites assertion to the contrary, communication got spotty: I was told something about busy contractors, something else about having more than one manager overseeing the website, and generally a lot of hemming and hawing. Final verdict: They do paint stripping. Just not a job this small. I certainly understand that some jobs are too small to be worth a contractor's time. They could save even more of their time, as well as mine, by being honest and forthcoming about why they can't take a job. Now, when it comes time to hire someone for the much-more-sizable job of brown stoning our facade, I certainly won't be calling Rahmann.
Description of Work: Called to hire the company to strip paint off two archways, a hallway and a window.

Kaiser came to my condo and assessed the situation, gave me very candid and honest advice which saved me potentially thousands in repair costs. (He advised that if I snaked the drain, it could solve the problem quickly without the need for ripping out drywall to get to the drain). I am confident that this is an honest company and I look forward to working with them on a future project.
