Description of Work: We had put together a design concept for the landscaping in the back yard of our new home, and had talked to two other companies prior to calling Living Water. Mark came to our home and looked at out concept, and within 10 minutes had sketched out a design that we liked. Within two days, he sent us a link to a 3 dimensional view of the design, along with a cost estimate. | |The cost estimate was over our budget, so Mark modified the design to accommodate us without significantly changing the overall concept. We met with Mark in July, but did not want to plant during the hot summer months, so we scheduled the installation for October. | |The workers were very professional, and quickly demonstrated that they knew what they were doing. The landscaping included hardscaping, a water feature, and a riverbed, along with several plants and trees. During the installation, Mark came by several times to supervise and give instructions to the workers. We requested a few modifications during the installation, and Mark agreed to them without a problem. | |Mark recently (March, 2015) came by to inspect the plants, some of which had died over the winter. He immediately replaced the dead plants at no cost to us. | |The finished landscaping came out great. We would recommend Living Water Lawn and Garden for landscape design and installation, and we actually have recommended them to several of our neighbors.

Description of Work: Communication with the customer was the main problem. They do not listen to the customer's input or desires. There is very little information provided to the customer in the area of lighting and water system operation. It took several do overs to get the job completed as described in the contract. Would not use them again.

We were very surprised and disappointed to read this review. We did not realize the dissatisfaction of this customer. Had we known, we would have gone out of our way to make them happy, as customer satisfaction is our main priority. Sometimes on a construction project of this nature course correction is needed due to unexpected variables. We had to course correct a couple times on this project for minor issues, but always did things with excellence with the goal of getting the job done right. We gave this customer a finished product that we are proud of and stand behind 100%. We were always available to this customer via phone call, emails and text messages. I looked through our email records and a prompt reply was always given anytime this customer had a question or concern. A courtesy call was given a few weeks after the project's completion, but our phone call was not returned. We reached out to this customer after receiving the review, but we have not heard back. We take communicating with our clients seriously and are committed to getting the job done right the first time.

We are sorry to hear of your displeasure. Your project's total was $2900, not $3900. You project was installed as per the invoice you approved. We installed 5 gallon cacti, 5 gallon shrubs and 1 gallon shrubs. The plants we purchased and installed were the sizes listed on the invoice. The bulk of your plants were cacti, which are slow growing and more expensive that regular 5 gallon plants and shrubs. Your husband picked out the cacti when we did a walk through at the nursery. We provided you with multiple estimates and in the end you told us you want to skim down tremendously as you were going to be moving. Larger plants and shrubs were suggested, but you had them all omitted in order to bring the price down since you had decided to move. We stand by the work we did on your project. We stand by the price we charged you. I'm sorry you felt like $2900 should have bought you more. Perhaps you are not familiar with landscape pricing and the amount of work that goes into a landscaping project of this size. Your project was completed almost a year ago. If you wish to see your plants grow more, we suggest fertilizing and proper care. Just like any living thing, plants need tending to to ensure maximum success.

They were very good. I found the landscaper to be very creative. I got a chance to see some of his works and they were excellent. He was very professional and courteous. He was punctual for the quote process and didn?t postpone any of his appointments. I may call them for a quote in future again.

We welcome constructive criticism, and understand that is a building block to becoming a better company; however we believe this C rating is unfair. The Angie's List member states we were over priced and that is why he did not use our company. We met with the member, worked hard, at no charge, designing his project and pricing it out accordingly. It is our policy to then meet again with the potential client to personally go over our design and the details of the pricing. For various reasons the member was unavailable to meet and pressured us to email the design and estimate to him. We explained to him that this was not really our policy as we want to have the opportunity to explain our pricing and what he would be getting for the price we presented. Reluctantly we emailed him our work, never to hear back from him, except for the email response stating he would not be retaining our services. The reason the proposal took time to get to him was because it is our policy to meet a second time with potential clients in person which he would not agree to. The possible reason he states we are overpriced is because he was not comparing "apples to apples" in terms of material and workmanship. We will not ever know, because he refused to give us the opportunity to present our selves and explain our pricing.
As someone who managed major projects in excess of a million dollars each for over 36 years, I must admit that I approached this project with some trepidation. It was going to be the largest home re-modeling project in terms of dollars that we had ever undertaken and I knew I was going to have to use the same project management criteria and skills I had in business to assure maintenance of the budget and schedule. I had found in the past home contractors did not like to do that preferring to handle things like schedules and estimates and scope of work very informally. As I interviewed a range of contractors, as i suspected most did not like the formality I wanted to use. Only two were willing to consider managing the project correctly. Of these two contractors, we chose L&W initially because we preferred their design. We talked up front before we got into details of how I wanted to manage the project and they were very receptive to the idea. Once we agreed on a design and signed a contract, L&W worked with me to help produce the necessary documents for submission to my Home Owners Association for project approval. They stayed in touch through out the approval process so that once the project was approved by the HOA, they were able to commence work within a week. Once work began, there was a significant sized crew (4-6) at our home every day at 7:30 a.m. They worked continuously and took only a nominal 30 minute lunch break. The worked until about 4:00 p.m. every day. On about half of the Saturdays, they worked as well after making sure it was OK with us. The foreman would review what they hoped to accomplish each morning. The owner visited the job approximately every other day. When the foreman was uncertain about something or had an idea he thought would improve the design, he checked with us to get our OK. When we had ideas or found a few things done incorrectly, they addressed the problems very professionally. Despite a large scope of work, we still had a defined budget. L&W was very good about respecting that budget. When there were changes in scope, they worked with us to minimize the cost. They did not use changes as a source to just increase their cost. When a change occurred, L&W representatives would explain their costs as well as any credits due from the work that would not be done as a result of the change. Their pricing for changes was extremely fair. I have always believed that a good contractor is not necessarily a contractor who has nothing go wrong on a job. A good contractor is one who, when they have problems on a job, works with his customer to resolve the problem to everyone's satisfaction. Nothing could better describe the L&W organization. Rather than leaving the site with even the smallest remnants of construction debris, they spent the last day on site picking up even the smallest pieces of debris (<1/2 inch). When L&W started, our backyard looked like a gravel pit with a swimming pool in the middle of it. When they left it looked like something from Better Homes and Gardens or HGTV. We could not have asked for a better look or a better company to work with in executing this project than L&W. We have already started working with L&W on the design of a front yard re-landscaping project to be installed next spring.
Description of Work: Living Waterrepresentatives met with us to discuss the general scope of work we wanted done along with likes and dislikes in terms of plants and trees. They then developed a preliminary landscape design plan which we jointly modified. Once the plan was completed, they gave us a detailed firm price bid to do the work which consisted of: * Gravel removal * Wrought iron fencing * Hardscaping including: - two paver patios - elevated stone wall flower beds - gravel cover in beds * Outdoor kitchen * Wood burning fireplace * Two garden beds * An RV parking pad * Transplanting of existing plants to fit design layout * Additional plants and trees * Irrigations system * Weed barrier cloth installation * Installation of rubber chips in playground area
We obtained estimates from three competing landscaping companies: one recommended by our realtor and two of the top rated companies on Angie's list. We provided each company our budget, a list of trees and plants we liked, brick and paver color preferences, and a SNWA design we thought best matched our space and taste. Mark McLoone and the folks from Living Water returned both the best interpretation of the design based on our preferences and the lowest bid price (by about $1500). In fact, Mark's design exceeded our expectations and provided a design quality we thought was unobtainable in our budget range. My wife and I, after considering the design further, made a couple of suggested changes to better meet our needs and budget. Mark was more than willing to work those changes in and provide us with a new bid in very short order. He took our ideas and suggestions seriously and worked hard to incorporate them into the design with no trepidation or push-back. I think, in the end, we reworked the initial bid three times and were never met with resistance despite not being under contract at the time. The work took five calendar days to complete, however two of those days were half-days used to finish up phases of the landscape installation. During the first three days (installation of the hardscape) I was not able to be present and, as a result, did not catch a measurement error in the design until the evening of the second day. An extra five feet of yard depth was added to the design which made the patio disproportionately large compared to the yard and retainer wall when actually built. After talking with Mark and his foreman, Luis, we were able to redesign the patio on the fly and it was re-laid in less than an hour. I was able to be present for the remaining two days of work (plants, grass, and chip), which were completed the following week. We ended up with a few extra bricks from the retainer wall installation, and Luis and his crew added an extra level to a portion of the wall (a large planter) at our request, again on the fly and in very short order. After twice making changes and redoing work without so much as a word of complaint, I had to buy these guys lunch. Luis and his crew really took care of us when I know we were a pain in their...side :) During the job Mark and his wife, Christine, were out of town for a week. Keith Howard, Mark's second in command, took time away from much larger jobs to check on us and make sure things were going okay. He came out to the house the afternoon the job was completed to check on the work and make sure we were happy with everything. He gave us some tips and advice on how to care for everything and keep it looking new for a long time, and promised a follow-up with Mark when he returned the following week. Overall, from start to finish the project took about two months to complete and was well worth the wait. It was not without it share of stumbles, though, mostly due to hiccups in communication between Mark and us. I recommend talking to his wife, Christine, and using her as a go-between versus calling Mark directly. You'll get a quicker response that way, but verify with Mark when you see him in-person to make sure nothing was lost in translation. We can't say enough about Mark's foreman, Luis, who saved the day not once but twice, and Keith who stepped up and took charge in a pinch. We'll definitely be using Living Water again in the future to work on expanding our front yard and adding a few things to the backyard we had to take out of the budget for this build.
Description of Work: This was a complete landscaping job for a barren 1500 sq ft back yard in a newly built residence. It included the removal of a nine square foot concrete slab and caliche, grading, installation of three zone irrigation system and drainage, 365 sq ft paver patio, 87 linear foot retainer wall with planters, six 15 gallon trees, 34 five and one gallon plants/shrubs, 400 sq ft topsoil and sod, 150 sq ft playground chip and five tons of rock mulch.

I would highly recommend Living Water (LW) for your landscaping project. We recently moved into an existing home on a large .4 acre lot and had decided that this landscaping project was too big to tackle by myself. The owner Mark McCloone came out and met with us and spent quite a bit of time discussing what we were looking for and different ideas. LW responded promptly with a detailed plan of recommendations which was accompanied by pictures of all recommended plants and trees as well as an itemized quote for the project. Mark took the time to meet with us again to explain his recommendations and was very helpful in answering our questions and offered many alternatives for any plants that we were hesitant to include. After commiting to the project but before work began, he met with us at the local nursery to answer final questions and make decisions about plant and tree selections. The most amazing thing was that work began on the day the Mark said it would, which is rare for any contractor in any service industry these days. The crew from LW showed up promptly at 7AM every day throughout the project. The crew was courteous, very hard working and left the project in an orderly fashion at the end of each work day. Mark stopped by the project on a regular basis and was very good about taking and returning phone calls with any questions or last minute changes we had. After the project was complete, Mark made an appointment to stop by for any final questions and/or fixes that needed to be made. Our list was very short and each item was promptly dealt with and to our satisfaction. The project was completed on schedule and I?m pleased to say that the results are fabulous! The final product turned out as planned and with an excellent level of detail and workmanship. So if you are looking for an honest, affordable and quality landscaping company for your home or business, I would encourage you to contact Mark McCloone at Living Water Lawn and Garden.
Description of Work: Living Water installed a paver patio around 2 sides of a newly installed swimming pool and a walkway leading to a raised corner planter and seating area. The company then also installed landscaping (trees, bushes, grass, rock), irrigation and lighting throughout the back yard.

Dealing with Mark (owner) and his crew was excellent. When doing up the plan Mark submitted two options which was nice to see. After looking at four other landscapers plans we settled on Living Water based on price and options. When HOA approval came through Mark came out the next day with the foreman to go over the plan. The following day the crew arrived and got down to work. Project was completed in two days, quicker than we anticipated. Foreman and the crew were professional, very polite and made sure we were satisfied with what they were doing. If there was something we wanted changed they were ready to modify. The final product was better than we had anticipated.

The basic front yard "re-do" went fairly well. The end result wasn't overwhelming but it was completed in relatively quick time. It seemed that once a chunk of work was done, Mark's focus had moved on to other jobs (which always sounded bigger than mine) and it took FOREVER to get him to come back and complete the entranceway. I never did receive the lighting that we had agreed on. The entire job took so long that by the time Mark was ready to work again he would have to re-issue the estimate. The problem was there was never a good account of what had already been paid for versus delivered so it was impossible to tell whether I received everything or not. The work that we had agreed to was never completed and I eventually gave up on Mark ever coming back. I'm now looking for others to come out and finish the job.
Description of Work: Relandscape the entire front yard and entrance. Included trees, plants, irrigation, lighting, decor, and all new rock. Also responsible for hardscape around a new pool in the back yard including planter fills, clean up and a new raised paver block patio.

We were surprised and disappointed to hear the dissatisfaction from this client written on Angie’s List, as he had never expressed these feelings to us before. We tried to work with this client in a timely manner. We had multiple meetings and called him several times trying to make progress. Work was delayed due to the lack of decision making on the homeowner’s part. Ample time and attention were given to the client, when a bench mark decision was needed, we would not hear back from the homeowner in a timely manner. As we were waiting for the decision, we had commenced work on other projects. This project was considered large and very much worth our time and efforts. We are sorry that this homeowner was not happy with the results of his project. Customer satisfaction is our goal, however in this instance, the homeowner failed to provide information that was crucial for commencement and progression of work.

It went very well. We were very pleased with the work. They were very professional. They came up with the designs and helped us pick out the plants we used in the yard. They showed us samples of the pavers and the plants so we could pick out what we wanted. I would recommend them to other people. They also worked with a swimming pool company that we were using to coordinate the plans.

Truly a case of "no service after the sale." Both our neighbors & ourselves hired Living Waters to install new zero-scape front yards that flow together. Things started out good, the price was reasonable & Mark seemed earnest in wanting to do a good job. The initial price kept increasing as what was originally quoted did not include any weedblock even though they were removing grass & Mark implied it was included. Other things happened that added extra $$ here & there. The sprinkler lines did not work properly & two of our plants died immediately after install (our neighbor also had plants die). It rained within 2 days, washing away much of the design. Our repeated calls were not returned. When Mark called he refused to stand by either the 30 day plant replacement, the rain or sprinkler issue. We had to hire someone else. We just landscaped our backyard, the front had to be dug-up as LW had disconnected the power line to the backyard sprinkler lines. Disappointing experience.

Weed block was not included on the price estimate and is not required to be installed by SNWA standards for xeriscape conversions. It has been our experience that homeowner’s tend to assume weed block is included in the price of the sod removal and rock placement. We have learned from circumstances such as this to now list on our estimates that weed block is optional, but recommended with a price for weed block included on the estimate. After the rains mentioned above, we returned to the job site and found a small area of decomposed granite has been washed away. We raked and re-graded the area to return it to it previous design. We have always stood by our plant and workmanship warranty and since this project have increased our plant warranty to one full year.

The workmen did a perfect job on this. We did not think that rock landscaping could look this good. They worked very hard in hot weather, and all of them had good attitudes. The job only took one day, and all of the material they tore out was taken with them. If we have any more of this type of landscaping in mind, Living Water will get the job.
