First call to place the order for the glass went as expected. An employee took my name and number, then said she would call me back with an estimate for a 53" diameter sheet of glass to cover our round office table. A couple days later, she called me back with a price of $250, which was about what we expected. But, when I asked for a little more detailed assistance, it began to get frustrating: - I asked whether delivery of the glass was included in the price. This was important to me, as I was not prepared to transport a heavy and fragile sheet of glass (round, no less) in the back of my car. We needed the glass delivered to avoid damage ... and, it only had to travel about 6 blocks from their shop to our office. She first said "I don't know if we can do that", which I thought was ridiculous. She later called back and said there would be a $50 delivery fee. I don't understand how a glass company can operate without routinely delivering ... but, OK. - I then asked if one of their employees would please come and measure the table himself, to ENSURE that the glass was cut to the correct size. She refused, and told me to just measure the table myself. I reluctantly did so, and gave her the table diameter of 53", measured as carefully as I could with a tape measure. - It took them at LEAST two weeks to get the glass ready. I had to call a couple of times before they could confirm the glass was cut. She then told me what their hours were, and that I could pick it up any time within those hours. Pick it up? No thank you, I said. I can't fit that in my car, and they would have to deliver it. (Remember, only about 6 blocks door to door). After a couple more delays, they finally arranged to have a driver bring the glass. And, of course, it was slightly too small. It may not sound like a big deal, but a 1/4" error on a round sheet of glass meant to rest atop a round table makes a big difference. We refused delivery, and asked the driver to take the glass back. He offered to speak with the owner (manager?) to have it cut down to size or replaced. This all took place during December 2013 thru February 2014. Academy Glass has NEVER produced the finished product, and they have not refunded our payment, despite our periodic phone calls to request service. Today, they advised that the glass was a "special order", and they would not be refunding our payment. I think this is unacceptable. A company in the business of furnishing glass products should INSIST on taking measurements themselves to ensure accuracy. And, I find it ridiculous that it took several requests to convince them to deliver it! We will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, and I strongly suggest you look elsewhere if you are in need of glass.
Description of Work: Academy Glass took our order for a sheet of glass to cover and protect a round office table. Then, they managed to disappoint in every imaginable way.
