He crawled around in my attic for a while and walked around outside to look at the external fan. At the end of the call, he declared that he didn't have a filter appropriately sized for our blower and hadn't changed or serviced anything. I was dumbfounded. We've had a service contract for years, a full description of our system and the filter size it needs have been in their system for years, yet they're not even competent enough to show up with the right filter? At least they owned up to being jackholes and admit they forgot to stock it on their truck, and just rescheduling the call.

Technician spent maybe 30 - 60 mins to change a couple of filters and fill some Freon. Indicated condensation pump leak. Ignored and noted in Workorder. Called back in 3 weeks due to issue with condensation pump leaking. The service rep. indicated it would be an additional 95$ charge to diagnose, although they already charged me approximately 450$ to service the unit 3 weeks ago. Was very unprofessional and refused to acknowledge that this should be a follow up service. Not sure what they charged 450 odd dollars in the first place for. Would never recommend them. Rather use PSE&G worry free service instead.

They had serviced my unit last year so the feedback that I would give is that they didn't bill me for when I called initially this year because they basically just walked through what the problem likely would be. They basically gave me the advice pro bono so I would rate them very highly. They also have an extreme focus on the quality of the customer's experience and they value their relationship with me. They also do above and beyond activities to ensure that they are the first person I call when it come to A/C and heating repair.

We booked them in December of 2012, after the hurricane. They were on time. They were very neat about everything that they did, good clean up. I thought that the gentleman in charge of the whole group was very good and they completed the job when they said they would.

Service provider sold me a service contract by pointing out that it would be cheaper than just scheduling a furnace and air conditioner cleaning individually. This was accurate. Of course, I'm aware that I will be paying them each year to come out and they will try to upsell me on services. For the first furnace appointment, the service person arrived on time. Cleaned the furnace. Found a problem with an igniter and fixed it. The furnace has worked fine since. My only complaint is that getting an appointment for an air conditioner cleaning required doing so very far in advance of the appointed date. I think service contract buyers should get more rapid appointments.
Description of Work: Cleaned and repaired my furnace. Signed me up for a day when they would clean my air conditioner.

We had previously used the provider for other work (sporadic maintenance contracts as well as other repair work) and had been happy. However, this time it could have been a potential disaster--because if I had taken the technician's diagnosis at face value, my house could truly have burned down. The technician who showed up to do our repairs on Friday afternoon, although polite, clearly did not have the level of training/knowledge to do the job. After three hours (see below regarding time spent), he finally determined that the issue was the control board/panel for the fan (and he could override it so it constantly ran) and, thus, he was finished the visit. He told me they would order the a part and when it arrived they would come back to install it. The earliest would be Tuesday but the office would confirm it. I was not given an estimate of the cost nor was I informed that given the age of my system (approx. 22 years old) it would have been far more economical to consider replacing it. (I even mentioned to both the technician and the maintenance plan manager that I knew we were going to have to replace the units in the short term.) I immediately asked him why I still had the burning smell. He informed me (after texting another technician) that it would be fine...it just needed some time for the old smell to clear from the system. I was rather skeptical of this answer based on the strength of the smell, and requested that he stay a bit longer to make sure that was truly the problem. I had been repeatedly telling him I was concerned about the safety of the system. We went back downstairs and I again pointed out how exceptionally hot the ductwork was on the unit in question (versus the upstairs unit) even with the fan now running again. I asked how hot it was supposed to be> He told me he didn't know. Previously, when I raised the issue of the hot ductwork, he told me--after he texted another technician--that "it should be hot". I called a relative (who isn't in even in the heating/construction business) who promptly called me back and said the max should be 140. The technician measured the temperature of the heat coming out of the ductwork--190 degrees on the unit in question--versus 120 on the functioning unit. Clearly this was a safety issue. At this point, the technician called his colleague for advice. The volume on his phone was high enough that I could clearly hear the response on the other end. The other technician (whose name I know but have intentionally left out--but he is apparently the main after hours callout person) asked him why he was still at my house and told my technician to text him with my number and he would call me in a while but in the meantime, "pack up your s**t and get the f**k out of there." This, while I had an unsafe situation. I was clearly upset about being treated this way and pointed out that I had heard everything. After pressing further, the technician was told to check the limit switch to make sure that it would turn the unit off in case it got to hot--thus preventing a fire. When he checked the limit switch, he informed me that it wasn't working and he had to shut off the machine and was, thus, leaving. I spoke with the maintenance contract manager at several points while the technician was here--to express concern about the safety of my situation, the level of service, etc. Some of the highlights were as follows: I was informed by the service manager that the technician spent approximately 3 hours at my house and that was much longer than the one hour allotted. I was told by the maintenance contract manager that the expectation was that if the technician couldn't figure out the problem within an hour, that they were to leave and they send someone else for a follow up. In this case, that wouldn't have been until the next day. I did point out that the technician spent the first hour (actually in excess of an hour) waiting near the truck in the driveway for another technician to bring the tool he had forgotten/couldn't find so he could actually start the diagnosis. I also pointed out that I had no control over how long it took him to diagnose the issue/change out a fan and put it back, but it seemed to me that this alone didn't seem to fit within the allocated one hour timeframe based on the time it took the technician. I also pointed out that given the nature of my complaint (burning smell and heater ductwork that was much hotter for the unit in question than my other unit), I would have thought the technician would have known how to check a limit switch since this appears even based on my limited knowledge to have been a pretty fundamental thing to check. The manager pointed out that we had mentioned we thought it was an issue with the fan so they started there. I noted that we clearly weren't heating technicians or we wouldn't have needed them. I also pointed out that it would have seemed that the three things that could have been an issue in this situation were the fan, the limit switch and evidently the control panel and I would have expected them to have checked out all three even if they did start with the fan and that checking those three things should fall within the time allotted for the call to diagnose and, if possible, repair. Although they were very responsive and came out same day even though we only just renewed our service contract that morning (after it had lapsed for some time), I was informed by the service contract manager how fortunate we were because they "didn't even provide that level of service to their customers". This was rather concerning because a) I would have thought that for heating emergencies their expectation would be wherever possible same day callout and repair and b) we were previously and once again a "customer". There are other parts of conversations that I could also share, but I have to believe that what I have already shared should be sufficient to understand that not only did it not go well (my house could have burned down had I not been so insistent) as well as provide insight into the level of service they offer (ie 1 hour to try to diagnose...same day if you are lucky...and no apparent concern for whether the diagnosis is correct or having a technician who is equipped (tools and knowledge). I called them and left a message on Saturday to cancel the maintenance contract I had just renewed the previous day and to tell them not to order the part for me. There was no point in moving forward with a company whose skills and judgment I didn't trust. I also had serious reservations about having my system serviced by a company where one of the senior technicians thought it was ok to leave me in that unsafe situation telling the other technician to "pack up your s**t and get the f**k out of there." because he has spent too long at my house. I also told Princeton Air hat I had found another company (On Time Heat and Air) after hours on Friday night who was extremely responsive. On Time Heat and Air agreed to have a technician there first thing on Saturday morning and told me they could probably get the parts on Saturday morning--as long as they were in stock. (Princeton Air told me their supplier wasn't open until Monday...so at best we were looking at Tuesday...and we were ready to get hit with another cold snap on Saturday/Sunday.) The sales person at On Time Heat and Air worked back and forth with me until 1am to help me select a new heating system as it truly was uneconomical to fix the existing one given that it was 22 year old...would have been throwing good money after bad. They went well above and beyond and installed the system so that I had heat by Sunday evening. Compare this to Princeton Air--where he had been a longstanding, albeit sporadic, customer--and where they missed figuring out that left as is my house was in danger of burning down and where they would order the parts and then arrange for a callout once they received the parts to install them. The earliest was Tuesday...but no guarantees. Thus, my review is not about the price. Princeton Air did refund my maintenance contract. They also offered to charge me only the maintenance plan callout rate rather than the non-maintenance plan rate for their Friday visit described above. I thanked them for the offer of the discount and politely declined.
Description of Work: Provider was called out to diagnose the problem with the downstairs heating system as it had been emitting a burning smell and the ductwork from that unit was much hotter than for the other unit. We requested the visit first thing Friday morning and a technician arrived as promised in the afternoon.

It was in the middle of the summer when the A/C stop working. So I called Princeton Air. The technician came on time. He refilled Freon but did not have the exact the same capacitor so he used two instead. Those two were overpriced. Since it was hot, there was not much to argue. The rest was fine.

We have used Princeton Air for many years and are very pleased. They did an energy audit of out home in 2009 and we ultimately had them replace our furnace and air conditioner as well as add insulation to the attic. There was no pressure to do this work, and we feel we made a great decision and are pleased. They are professional, prompt, clean and informative.

They have a pretty good number of people working for them. They installed a new heat pump many years ago when my original heat pump broke. They did a good job and when the township inspector showed up his comment was, they do good work but they are kind of expensive. I think that he is right. I talked to a neighbor and he had a heat pump put in for a lot less but I found out later that they didn't have all the proper permit paperwork, so I would go through Princeton Air again.

We've had multiple contractors look at our forced air heat/air system over the years including the guys that installed it. It's always been too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. Finally, Princeton Air adjusted a sensor on one of our air handlers that let it blow warm air longer. This immediately improved the problem. We're having them come out to do an audit (this is another thing we've had done before by others but with unsatisfactory results). We're also going to go in to a mtce contract with them. Hopefully this will be the beginning of a long and useful relationship.

.The experience was much better than I expected. They did a through check of my system and let me know that it is still functioning well and that no major maintenance was needed at this time. I did buy their maintenance package, my unit is 20 years old and it is comforting to know that have a company that is there day and night. My former company would make me wait until the next business day to come out, even in the middle of the winter.

Description of Work: We use Princeton Air for annual servicing of our HVAC system for past two years. They are very professional and most times arrive on time. One occassion service date/time was mixed up and caused my husband to take 1/2 day from work and no one showed up.This was a one time accurance so I don't judge them based on this . Our A/C failed on a Friday evening and they came next day to take a look at it and determined we needed new one. We are currently evaluating what type new system we will replace . Their estimates are much higher than others.

The technician told me that I need to replace the capacitors. So here is an example of their expensive pricing model that I realized after the work was done and I was able to research online. I had to replace the following:1. Mars2 Oval Run Capacitor 440 volt 12951 - Market Price: $18.50. I was charged $136. 2. Then Mars2 Oval Run Capacitor 440 volt 12929 - Market Price: $7.49. I was charged $110. 3. When I was asked to pay after the work, technician also added a new item for Start up Kit with price of $160 (market price $37) which I was not told before the work started. He was there altogether for 90 mins max on a Sat afternoon. So I ended up paying about $450 labor cost (that too with member's discount) to install $80 parts....all in the name of "FLAT PRICE"..which amounts to $300/hour rate! SO USE Princeton Air FOR DIAGNOSIS ONLY, NOT TO INSTALL ANY PARTS. Use their findings from the diagnosis to know the actual problem, write down the part details and then call somebody else with the specifics to get installed much cheaper! You can even get the parts yourself first. The company definitely lacks some common sense pricing model...if they have to install 3 parts to an unit at the same time, they don't apply any discount to the incremental parts after the first part is installed. So you lose more if you have to install multiple parts in one job.

The tech came quickly and went right to work. He carefully disassembled the igniter, checked that it was getting the correct voltage, cleaned the contact and put everything back together. Turned the furnace back on and the problem was solved. He also provided information on home energy audits and a maintenance program that would reduce future costs. His work was quick and neat, he was polite and professional.
Description of Work: Our gas furnace had stopped working. I contacted Princeton Air via their website late in the evening and requested service.
