We hired Skydell Contracting to finish our basement last summer and this was one of the best decision we've made when it comes to improving our home. Skydell's professionalism through the entire process - from initial estimation and quoting, through the permit process, to the project work was very smooth. A big part of that is due to the excellent level of organization that our assigned Project Manager had. He was always there to respond to anything that came up through out the course of the project and was a great communicator, keeping us updated every step of the way. Additionally, the quality of the construction crews brought in by Skydell was excellent. In many cases, true craftsman that did exceptionally high quality work. Overall, this project changed how we utilize our home and helped us maximize our space. I look at this as not only a home improvement project, but a real life improvement! I highly recommend Skydell Contracting for all of your home improvement needs!

Very happy with the work performed! Subs were all professional, did very good work, and cleaned up. The owner Richard is also very professional and responsive and he has an excellent ability to see design opportunities that might otherwise go unnoticed. I recommended him to my parents and they were also thrilled with their kitchen remodel.

We wanted to do this years ago but always thought it was out of our reach. Rich offered us options and worked with us for the best possible outcome for our budget. The work was scheduled but needed to be pushed back a week which wasn't a problem for us. The work was completed and we couldn't be happier with the open space and new floor. We selected Skydell Contracting to renovate two bathrooms simultaneously, and we could not be happier with our choice. Our house is about 60 years old and I don’t think the bathrooms had ever been updated. The results Skydell produced were fantastic and better than we could have hoped for; we now have the best bathrooms of any house we’ve ever lived in. We didn’t have any good ideas for what the end result should look like as we’ve never renovated any of our houses before. Richard was very patient with all our questions, made great suggestions, and really helped with his mock-ups of what the finished space could look like. He walked us through the whole process and made it easier than we imagined. Henry was our project manager and he did a fantastic job keeping the project on schedule and on budget and was very quick to respond to our questions and the inevitable little follow up details that needed to be taken care of. I cannot recommend Skydell strongly enough.

poor.. unethical, took way too long, sub contractors complained, project managers complained too busy,,,, gotten too big ... failed to include work in estimate, and then forced change orders. terrible experience stay away.

From the moment Rich Skydell came into my home, I knew his company was going to do this renovation. Since I really was a novice at this, his guidance was invaluable. Henry, my Project Manager made sure all phases went smoothly and according to his quality standards.

Prettty well. Completed relatively on time. Price was somewhat high and disatisfied with sink vanity as stain was peeling. However did not report till after 1 year warranty on it ended. Did not hold up to normal wear. Worked with contractor to refinish and got reduced cost for doing it, but took awhile to work it.

They did beautiful work. They were professional and courteous. They took care of all the inspection things. We even went on vacation and left them the house key.

First, some background on us. We're a professional couple in our 30's. This all pertains to our first home, and it's relatively modest (if we listed it for sale, we'd probably get about $400k for it). I work as a market researcher, so I take customer advocacy and the review process very seriously. I gave this review a ton of thought, given the large amount of money we've committed to these two projects (and the amount you'd commit if you were to proceed with a remodel). At the end of the day, we're pleased with Skydell, but we can't in good conscience give them an A rating (we have too many quibbles). We agree with the current consensus on Angie's List. A B, however, is a good rating, and we do not mean to d*** them with faint praise. We would absolutely work with Skydell again. The pros of working with Skydell: -Most importantly, the workmanship is quite good overall. The carpenters and other staff clearly are devoted to their work. They occasionally work Saturdays in order to get the project done, so you can't say they don't work hard. -When problems arise (and they always do with projects of this scope), the staff works hard to find an amenable solution. -Richard is nice to work with, and has a genuine eye for design. He knows what he's doing. -Unlike some other contractors in the area, they are sensitive to the different home values in the area. They wouldn't recommend a $1,000,000 home solution for our $400,000 home, and we appreciate that. -Their project managers are super professional and responsive, and everyone who showed up at our house treated it (and our family) with respect and kindness. Here are the quibbles we have: -We had one workmanship issue with our basement, where we had to hire an electrician after the fact to replace our electric baseboard heaters. Skydell had initially installed them at the wrong voltage (120V vs. 240V), so we had to replace the heaters on our own to prevent a fire hazard. Cost us about $400 out of pocket. -Miscommunications: I think it's a function of their business model, but when the sales and service function are separate, there are bound to be desires/wants/things that fall through the cracks. For the basement, it was the eventual ceiling height (it ended up a less than desirable 6'8" because of existing gas pipes). For the bathroom, it was the electrical requirements (we wanted the exhaust fan on its own switch). Minor stuff, but it adds up over time. -Nickel-and-diming: I don't mean to harp on this, because I suspect most contractors in the area do this. But from the customer's perspective, it's a little unnerving to have to sign a change order for small amounts relative to the project total. It feels a little bit like being charged $2 for peanuts on an airplane. I'd personally rather be charged slightly more up front in exchange for not being nickel and dimed, but your mileage may vary.

After many years of living with a kitchen that wasn't as functional as it could have been we decided it was time to invest in our happiness and redo it. We were very happy with the whole process, from the design phase through completion. Contractors showed up on time and they did a great job cleaning up after themselves.

It was under warranty. They were good on their word and they came pretty fast and repaired it. It was pretty smooth. The repair was done within a few days.

Site supervisor, Henry - excellent, texted daily. Two man construct crew, Robert & 1 excellent plumber, messed it up, had to redo plumbing. Electrician - excellent!

Overall very good service. Did extra effort to get bathroom functional for July 4th guests. Would have preferred make temporary railing, had to determine value for price.

All contractors were on time, professional, neat and clean.

Workmanship ok - high handyman level. Communication difficult post sale, big difference from pre-sale. Details neglected at project end.

It's going well. I haven't made a decision to hire him yet, but I did enjoy the benefit of the consultation. He's aggressive, which is a good thing. He's organized and stays on top of things. He's definitely an intelligent guy and he has stayed in contact with me. He's very responsive and hard working. Once the snow is gone, we'll see what actually materializes.

I would recommend Skydell to others. The project was professional, on budget, and timely. Contractors were excellent as well as the overall project management

The contractor states that this was a manufacturing defect in the faucet. That is not what I was told when the individual came to fix the leak. Cannot quote directly but he said something to the effect that there was a part of the faucet that was not connected and he didn't know why the faucet had been made that way. To be fair to Skydell, each time I called with a concern they responded quickly to my concerns and as a measure of goodwill they did extend my warranty for an additional six months.

Mr. Skydell came out to look at our bathroom after I bought the coupon for an appointment and 3D renderings. I had had one other firm come out previously to give an estimate and was shocked that it would be costing 20-25k to remodel the worlds tiniest master bathroom. He was prompt, friendly, and had some great ideas that we never really considered. After the appointment, we received an estimate. Cost of project was $21k, which was right in line with the previous estimate we'd received. We came to realize that we had poor assumptions as to what the remodel would cost in general. Wish it were cheaper, but seemed to be the going rate. Since we were pleased with the ideas and service so far, we decided to use Skydell. We went to their office a few weeks later and picked out faucet, shower head, sink, cabinetry, and quartz. We also met at a tile store at a different time to pick out all of the tile. Again, Mr. Skydell was on time and was really helpful to us. We didn't expect such design expertise when we chose a contractor. That part of this experience was really a nice surprise. We got a new toilet in 2 bathrooms, and as stated earlier, the bathroom was basically gutted, and a small closet in an adjoining bathroom was knocked out to make the shower bigger. We lucked out and didn't really have any change orders that were unexpected. The project started and ended on time, to the day. The sub-contractors did a very good and detailed job. They kept the area clean by putting tarps down throughout the house. The project manager handled the project well and communicated when needed. He also accommodated my request to not have the large trash bin out too long since it was near our basketball goal that we use frequently. All in all we are extremely pleased with our new bathroom and will use Skydell for any future needs, and would suggest Skydell to any family or friends that have a project.

Went well...always kept appoints (5) and arrived on time, returned all phone calls. Professional operation, straight talk, creative, and above all honest. Just couldn't get to t a price point.

Overall the work was performed regularly. Momentum varied through the 2 month period. Punch list item corrected and overall the work was done well.
