Response from HEARTLAND WOOD FLOORS COMPANY
Although the work was done in 2007, I do remember Member. This was a new home and we were contracted through the builder to install new oak flooring. The floor did show contraction in areas through the main floor. It is not unusual and very common for floors to show spacing in between boards do to contraction. The wood is a solid wood and is a hygroscopic material, which causes the floor to draw in moisture in the environment causing expansion of the cells and then the opposite affect when the dryer winter air removes moisture from the wood causing the cell to contract. We did send a crew out to fill in some of the gaps that did not close up during the summer. There was also a plumbing problem, flooding part of the floors when copper was stolen from the home. While a portion of the flooring was replaced, there could have been a longer lasting affect to the remaining wood, with the excess moisture in the home during that event. It is not likely we will know for sure and there was no good way to gauge this at the time of the incident. The builder was prompt on getting the damage repaired. We continue to do work for the builder Member used.
