Duct cleaning
1. First installed a unit that was so loud it had to be replaced with a more expensive unit. 2. Then they said that the energy efficient refund from electric company was taken care of . It was not and i did not receive $300 check from electric company. 3. They did not send package of materials including warranty. When I called I spoke to very impolite and discourteous person who would not help me. She was horrible. Without information, I could not get electric reimbursement on my own. 4. There were big air leaks in air handler unit which was wasting money. When i called to fix, they came out but did not fix, said it had something to do with the way they put the screws in. I had to fix myself using tape over leaking parts. 4. They said they installed a common type filter that I could buy anywhere and left one behind. When I checked filter, it is a specialty filter and I do not know how to replace it. 5. They claimed the upstairs intake air vent did not need a filter and when I told them one was in there, they ignored me. I found a filter in the air intake on my own and an an engineer friend of mine said was it was needed. 6. They installed an incorrect vent in the downstairs game room which could not be adjusted even after I had said I needed to be able to adjust the vent. The did come out and replace it.. Overall an unsatisfactory experience. My only hope is that the unit holds up as I do not have the warranty information from them and as i said before they refused to provide it to me.

My heating/air had been inoperable for close to two years. O'Brien was recommended by another service company that my family dealt with in the past. That company isn't local so they suggested O'Brien, a certified Trane dealer. I called O'Brien and they promptly set up a service call to diagnose my issue. Matt, the technician, was punctual and professional- They even put on soft booties to keep your floors clean when they come in the house!! Attention to detail? O'Brien pays attention! After service, Matt explained that the system could be repaired or replaced. It was more cost effective to replace the unit at that point. We set up an appointment for a free estimate at that time. David and Scott arrived within the week and went throught a very thorough analysis of my home and space. They measured equipment, spaces, and air flow within the house to make sure it was a perfect match. They then sat down with us and went over all options. We were given three systems and a very detailed explanation of all three. After making our decision, they detailed how our service/installation would go. On October 22, O'Brien techs arrived bright and early, ready for the task at hand. They installed all equipment very efficiently and paid great care to making sure things were correct. After the installation, not only did O'Brien sales reps David and Scott come back for a follow up appointment...I even received a thank you card in the mail! I will most certainly use O'Brien for all of my service needs in the future and recommend them to family and friends. A+ Service!

So glad I picked O'Brien to do the work. The old duct work was in terrible condition with a lot of mildew on it. They removed all the old duct work and hauled it off. They immediately started on new installation of duct work. They mathmatically worked out what size of unit and duct work we needed so it would work as efficiently as possible. When connecting new ducts to existing floor vents, they nailed in and then caulked all vents to seal them. A new Air Handler was installed under our steps and sealed around it to prevent any air loss. Since I live in a flood zone on a tidal creek, they tore out the old rotten wood platform and replaced it with a much sturdier, foot higher platform for outside units. They left space between house and platform so that wood siding would not rot on house, which had been a problem with old system. A lot of work was involved putting in new system and they completed all work in 5 days. They even cleaned up after themselves both inside and outside of house. All the workers were very professional, courteous and arrived promptly every morning. I never saw them smoking, talking on cell phones or taking a lot of breaks. They all worked very hard every day. The first night our new system was running we could immediately feel a big difference in our home. The high humidity issues we had with old system were gone and we could turn up the thermostat temperature and still feel cool. The new system is very quiet. I am very pleased with O'Brien and would highly recommend this company. I especially liked that they offered a finance plan. Excellent company!

I purchased a new compressor from O'Brien a few years ago after my previous one was destroyed during a hurricane (tree fell on it) Recently, my wife called me at work to tell me the AC had stopped working unexpectedly.Because it went out in the middle of the day I fully expected that no one would be able to get someone to me that day and my family would be spending a HOT night at home. I called O'Brien to come check it out.... They had Matt there almost immediately!! He checked the system and found it was not a problem with the HVAC but most likely an electrical problem. Oh Boy.... now I was sure my family would be spending a HOT night at home.... as there was no way I was going to get an Electrician there before the next day. They had me call Meade Electrical, who does there installs, they were there in less than 1 hour!! Fortunately it was a simple fix and they had me up and running before I knew it. Having not 1 but 2 companies respond that quickly is unheard of these days. O'Brien is serious about customer service and thur sub contractors fell the same.... cannot say enough good things about my experiences with this company.

We recently had to get the HVAC unit for our rental condo (~400 miles away) replaced . I requested three different options from two vendors for replacing the unit. O'Brien provided 4 proposals with all the major parts / components / services broken out and also listed optional components as well. The competition only gave 2 prices with a VERY minimal breakdown. O'Brien was not the cheaper of the two but I thought that they were the better of the two based on hardware reliability and maintenance breakdown costs from Consumer Reports. Once the installation was completed, our Tenants, who are students at a local university, had this to say about how well O'Brien handled the installation: "The experience was good. They showed up around 8 am ready to work. They were here until about 6:30. We were at school for the majority of the time while they were here. They cleaned up after themselves and were very polite. When finished installing, they showed us how to control the system and what they added. The system looks great. It's working very well, no complaints all around." When the actual billing invoice arrived at our house, it was very well organized in a binder and even had a pre-completed energy rebate form with all of the necessary hardware details (which we did not realize that we qualified for). We are extremely happy with the service we received and would use this company again in a heartbeat.

the team of two installers were extremely professional. Wore shoe covers when entering the house. Fabricated a piece of duct to join the air cleaner with the existing duct. Very professionally done. Installation was quickly done. When completed demonstrated how to remove filters for cleaning. Left a manual for my files. Overall very pleased.
Description of Work: Installed an electronic air filter on the main AC. Initially had an estimate in April. Emailed to request a change and did not hear from them. I called on August 15th to ask for an update. Apparently my email was never received. They immediately emailed a revised estimate and scheduled installation for the next morning. I rated responsiveness an "A" based on the response to the phone call. Overall very pleased with the company. Would use them again.

After our heat pump died on a weekend, we contacted two well-established companies on the following Monday to get quotes for a new system. Both companies provided us with quotes for 3 systems of varying quality & price (low, medium, hi) although the O'Brien rep was more thorough and seemed more concerned with our understanding of the options. The O'Brien quotes were slightly higher than those from the other company, although the difference seemed to primary reflected the different equipment the two companies proposed to install (Trane vs. Carrier). Both systems included 10-year warranties on parts and 1-year on labor. Both companies offered an extension (to 10 years) on the labor warranty although, here, O'Brien's cost was well below that of the other company. The O'Brien rep was also quick to offer us the use of two window AC units during the 3 days we had to wait until the installation could be completed. He also made it clear that they would complete & hand deliver the paperwork for a $300 Progress Energy rebate, and provide a product certification document that could be used for a tax rebate. Based on the equipment (Trane), labor warranty, AC units, and professionalism (including help with paperwork & documentation) we went with O'Brien and have been very glad we did. The AC units were delivered the next morning. The installers arrive exactly as scheduled, and were friendly and professional -- including checking with me about various options for installation. They finished slightly ahead of schedule, cleaned up well, and gave us a tour & explanation of their work (indoor/outdoor units and new thermostat). Six days later the original O'Brien sales rep dropped by (after scheduling an appt the previous day) and provided all of the paperwork that was promised and answered the few remaining questions we had. So far, our new system is working great. Overall, then, we have had a very positive experience with O'Brien.

Initially, I called O'Brien to check my old system as it had stopped cooling. A technician came out and discovered a leak at the accumulator. The system was 20 yrs old so he advised getting a new system. So, I arranged to have a rep come over to show me what they had to offer and give me some estimates. Mike R., a Service Tech/ Sales Consultant came over and gave me a few choices and we settled on the Trane XR15. I will say that Mike was very thorough and very professional. The install was done on Friday, 5/31/13. The workers showed up on time and things seemed to go smoothly. But when it came time to start up the system, it didn't work. The guys tried to get it working, but couldn't figure out what was wrong. To their credit they did stay late, until about 6:30pm, They brought in a couple of free standing AC units to cool my house over the weekend. When they were turned on, the power went out in my house because the circuit was overloaded. We had to get extension cords to rearrange where we had the units plugged in. They seemed to be working, so they guys left. Soon after, the power went out again, and I had to again rearrange where the units were plugged in. They came back on Monday and were able to get the unit working. It turned out to be faulty wiring or something to do with the relay, which they said was a Trane issue, not their issue. The unit was working fine for a few weeks, but on Saturday, 6/29, the unit stopped cooling and was giving an error on the thermostat - error 166 if I remember correctly. I called them on Sunday, 6/30, and a tech came out and didn't know what the error message meant, but thought it was a problem with the EVC board and sensors. He was able to get the system cooling before he left. The next day, the parts were installed and this fixed the problem and error. So, to summarize, I was impressed by their professionalism and responsiveness, but I was disappointed that the new system didn't work when installed and then had issues only after 1 month. To their credit, O'Brien did make amends, and I really wanted to give them an A overall. But since there were issues, whether they were their fault or Trane's fault, I just couldn't give an A. I would, however, still do business with them in the future. I think they are a well-run company, and based off all the other reviews, they don't typically have these issues.

Our air conditioner stopped working on July 3rd around 11 p.m. I contacted O'brien after hours at approximately 12:30 a.m. and received a call back and had a service technician at my door by 9:30 a.m. on July 4th!! They repaired the issue, but the real amazing thing was the responsiveness. I've used them numerous times and each time they've been very responsive and very professional/friendly. I can't say enough good things about these guys, don't hesitate to call them.

Air conditioner went out late yesterday afternoon. Called O'Brien Service around 10 am today. Had Matt come who arrived just about 12:30 pm "ish". He said the unit blower had failed. Even though it was under warranty, I would have to pay for him to go get the part, install it, check everything it would cost me $298.95. He said that included a $50.00 discount and a $20% discount because of ANGIE'S LIST and repeat customer. The service charge was $54.95 and the part was $244.00. He said the price included them having to contact the Bryant Heating and Cooling systems folks to "try to collect the part and be paid for same". I really do not understand why that is my cost but he was nice, friendly professional and clean! He was well groomed and identified himself by name and by his clothing. (Name on shirt). My only compliant was he did not give me a total price showing the discounts. It would have just made me feel better...seeing the savings! But it is nice to be cool.

Anytime there is a warranty repair we pay for the part up front (even though we do not charge the customer for it) then there is a bit of "red tape" for us to cross with getting our credit back for parts, etc.; so that all happens behind the scenes. However, this is not usually broken down in detail for the customer unless requested because we do not want to cause confusion; it is simply included in our total labor price. Hope that helps with the confusion that we may have caused. We are always very honest and upfront with our customers concerning costs, etc. so that there are no misunderstandings. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us anytime. We are happy to help!

O'Brien had been doing maintenance on our unit since we bought a beach condo in 2010. It was really on its last legs and we didn't want it to break down during the rental season. From my own research and owner Jim Williams' recommendation I decided Trane was the way to go with a beachfront property. Mike Russell (sales and installation) came out to measure and recommend the exact size unit we would need. He also showed me a wifi thermostat that I could control from my iPhone. The unit was to be installed when I wasn't there, so I very comfortably gave Mike keys and relied on him to make sure the job was done, cleaned up and my doors and owner's closet were locked up. He was in touch with me on the day of the installation to assure me things went as planned and to set up my cool new thermostat.

Description of Work: The 'technician' came out to my vacation home to check out why my a/c unit was freezing up. (I had no idea why.) This is a 38 year old unit. My a/c unit was described as having a slow freon leak and all that was needed for this summer was a freon refill. This was all taken care of within 36 hours of my initial call to O'Brien's.
