O'Brien was great from beginning to end and it was an easy process. I was able to stay at work because I trusted them.

Installers were on time, very clean, and professional. Did a very thorough job.

From start to finish the job went perfectly. One day one and two O'Brien deployed a team of four men to remove the old systems and revise the ducting layout for the second floor. The attic ducting work these men did was simply amazing. Day three involved a two man crew performing the installation, configuration, and start up of the new system, and the morning of day four involved checking all elements of the system to insure everything worked as required and tuning the air handler elements. At every part of the job the work crew took great effort to keep dirt and debris out of the work area, using mats to cover the areas where they walked, and every bit of debris was cleaned up each day. I don't believe you can find a more capable or hard working group of men to do what these guys do and we're delighted with the installation and performance of the new HVAC system.

They were excellent. I would use them without a doubt.

I called this company first based on what I had heard from my friends who use them and what I read on Angie's list. I was not disappointed. From the 1st person I talked to on the phone (Amy) to the tech that came out to my house (Chris) it was a positive experience. Chris took a look and then told me that the motor to the unit had to be replaced. He explained everything in detail and gave me an estimate on the price. I could not have been more pleased with the service I received and I will call them the next time I have a problem. Chris also explained the yearly service contract and I plan to take advantage of that also. Chris and Amy both represented O?Brien in a positive and professional matter that would make the company proud.

See below for our overall experience. Compared to all work we?ve ever had done by contractors, we were very happy. Compared with all other HVAC vendors/contractors in 2 cities (Wilmington and Raleigh), these guys were the best. Kudos to Brent, who handled the ?sales? part (except for wanting to sell us a Nexia thermostat) and Jason and Dave who handled the installation. We had to deal with the failure of 2 HVAC systems within 3 weeks. We knew nothing almost about HVAC at the start. The web is an excellent source of relevant education, though there?s plenty of questionable advice out there (as with any other topic). Not into doing your research? Expect to get fleeced. We had estimates that varied by as much as 2-fold in cost. If you?re not on your game, contractors will sell you just about anything. Some expenses of thousands of dollars may net just a few dozen dollars in savings for just a few months out of the year. It?s typical to have estimates padded with replacement of perfectly good parts, unnecessary supplies, and accessories that add substantially to the bottom line. Really want to get fleeced, if the breakdown occurs during extreme weather (hot or cold), let the vendor know you want it fixed ASAP. We had the opportunity to cope with part of the house sweltering and another part relatively comfortable. With the two breakdowns back to back, it got old but it helped us save thousands of dollars; upwards of $8,000 for the two installations if we only count legitimate estimates. Takes all the estimates and we saved over $12,000. We can?t be certain we have chosen the most durable equipment; that kind of data seems completely unavailable. There is enough information out there to learn which equipment is harder to repair. Remember that labor costs are a BIG component of HVAC work. If you have to buy a specially made, hard to find capacitor and it takes a rocket scientist working with a trained mouse to wedge it into a tiny space, you?re looking at several hundred dollars for what might cost less than a hundred dollars to do in a well designed product. AND, watch those servicemen. wait until they finish the entire review of your system and layout what it will cost to fix it. We payed one guy over $100 to fix something marginal on our air handler only to find out, when he went outside, that he suspected all along the compressor was likely the problem and would require replacement. On the whole, we benefitted by?hovering? over the repair and installation technicians. In the course of pleasant conversation, we learned tons about our systems as well as what else was out there on the market. These guys work in blistering heat, freezing cold, spaces so small and unpleasant no one should have to go there, and most people hate them because they?re associated with high expenses they do not understand (not the technicians fault). Most of these guys will appreciate if you show that you?ve made some effort to learn about their trade. They?re the first to tell you it isn?t rocket science, but these guys typically know a lot and are grateful for an opportunity to shine rather than be put down. Really, it?s a win-win for everybody. You save money and get a good education and they get a well-deserved ego boost.

I have used O'Brien for many years (20+), as have several of my friends, and I believe they are head and shoulders above the rest. Their technicians are always knowledgeable and respectful and they make an effort to educate the homeowner. I'm not sure how they compare in price, but I'm confident I always get my money's worth.

Mike, the salesman, came and gave us an estimate. Great guy. Gave us 3 options and did not push the most expensive one. Jonathan, the installer, was on time and worked very efficiently.

It went very well. They were on time and finished when they said they would.

It didn't go well. They told me that it was going to take about half a day to install the new unit.They started on Friday morning, the first unit they installed did not work. They came back on Saturday with a second unit that also did not work, at 2 o'clock they said they couldn't do anything about it and would be back Monday. On Monday they showed up and installed a third unit that also didn't work. They called up their lead service man, he had never seen anything like it. They finally figured out what was wrong with it. It was a Trane XR15 Weathertron heat pump, so either the product, or the service is suspect. It seems the least they could do would be throw in a free service call or something for our trouble, we were without air for four days. But they would not.

The tech that O'Brien sent out could not have been nicer or more professional. He gave my wife a estimate of just over 10K to replace our heat pump, air handler and controls with a Trane unit. We had it replaced today from another company for a little over 4k for the same Trane unit. Great company just to high priced.

Excellent service, very professional and quick. David was very helpful in exlplainging the pieces and differences in air conditioners. I had no idea there is so much information.

Installers were on time everyday (5 days) were polite, clean and very efficient, they were definitely Att.

Tim was punctual and thoroughly knowledgeable. he quickly ascertained where to place all of the components for the unit each was placed without undue wear and tear to porch and exterior garden time made sure the mount was neat and all clean up done. He made sure I understood how to operate the mini splitter before he left.

The guy who came over did some extra work, but didn’t charge anything for that. He was very knowledgeable about hvac systems and he took care of the problems. They were reasonably priced and came right away as soon as I called them.

This company is completly reliable! The sales dept was thorough and great to work with, as well as the installer dept. - On time and we are impressed with the installation. Highly recommended company!! A pleasure to work with!!

Prompt estimate. Informed us exactly what could be done. Installed was delayed due to shipping error. Install went well/kept my house clean as they were going in and outside. Cleaned up after themselves before leaving. Unit installed, works great!!

The technical sales person was very well versed in his products and we arrived at the final system to be installed quickly. I had requested three window units for the duration of the install and these were delivered and operating before any work started. The men who completed the work were on time, very professional and qualified to do the work they came to perform. The first day it got up to 116 degrees in my attic ! The work was completed on schedule and I had a follow up meeting this morning to finalize everything. This company has been servicing my home equipment for many years and this latest project showed the high quality and top notch customer service I have come to expect from O'Brien Service Company.

The 2 installers were prompt and very efficient in removing the old unit. Also, very neat (wore booties in the house). They completed the job on time - no delays.
