Ryan did a great job! We just moved to Waynesville in February and were looking for a local mechanic and we are so glad we found Appalachian Automotive. The repair was great and the service was even better.

Ryan Rackley is honest, above-board and up-front, and very fair. I had a GMC Envoy V8 possessed by the devil, so I saw Ryan a lot. He runs a top-notch repair facility and his honesty and fairness was refreshing. I would recommend him to any and everyone needing great service and pricing. Alas, I have not seen him in two years because I ditched that Envoy and have a trouble-free Ford Explorer, but if and when I need help again, Ryan gets my business.

Ryan Rackley owns and operates this shop, and I'd trust him with any and everything. Automotive stuff, especially electronic, is a bugger to trace down, but he is fair, kind, and considerate.

PLEASE READ!!!!!! It was a nightmare. We have always brought our vehicles to Ryan when we needed something done. On December 6th 2017 We drove 25+ miles to leave my husbands truck with Ryan, a perfectly unbroken , driveable, truck. (December 8th) 2 days pass with no word from anyone at this shop, until my husband finally called & asked what was going on. LONG STORY SHORT, his 2011 Toyota Tundra with only 70k miles, is now TOTALED sitting in an auction lot somewhere. Ryan ONLY diagnosed a blown strut & scrapes on the underbody of the truck. We towed the truck to a different shop who then uncovered all of the major damage done to the firewall & welding, plus other damaged suspension parts. A Geico Adjuster came to inspect the truck as well & she also mentioned how she has had to visit Ryan’s shop a few other times because of damage done to customers vehicles. This shop owner said there was no way in **** this truck could’ve been driven from Sylva to Waynesville in this condition. I’m not The type of person to publicly talk down about someone, Especially someone I considered a FRIEND & stupidly trusted, but Ryan really screwed himself out of some loyal customers. I will NEVER deal with him again. I have always recommended people to his shop, now I will tell people to steer clear. We are now down to one car & my husband works swing shift. After all of this has happened, I’ve had people message me telling me horror stories about Ryan’s shop & the irresponsible employees he has working there. BEWARE if you are thinking about bringing your vehicle to Appalachian Automotive, you might drop off a car that is in better condition than when you get it back! In the photo attach with trucks front view, you can see the truck is leaning. The front passenger side is where the damage was done. The truck was left at Ryan’s shop during the winter snow storm with 8”-12” of snow. This 2011 Tundra has 33” tires on it, it wasn’t low to the ground by any means. When we showed up to the shop on Friday so Ryan could show us a blown strut, it had scuff marks & scrapes on the front passenger side bumper & underside along with dirt & grass clogged underneath. This truck has never gone off-roading or mudding, it gets driven from home to work, from work to home. Why would we want just an alignment on this truck if it had this many problems before dropping it off?! Ryan won’t take any blame for what has happened to our truck! He didn’t offer to show us the security camera footage when we asked him to look through it. Are we crazy for wanting justice for what has happened?

After needing a jump less than a week ago; and, now another jump just 4 days later, I was perplexed since Auto Zone tested both battery and alternator the very same day of my first jump and said that my 1 year old battery and alternator were both OK. As Lady Luck would prevail, this part-time Maggie Valley gal up from Florida was referred to Appalachian Auto where I was treated like a queen! Within a very reasonable time, Ryan diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced and continued to show and explain the possible electrical interferences that might prevent a new battery from holding a charge. Already, Ryan was acquiring and building my trust in him. I chose to purchase a new battery and return as soon as possible to have Ryan, an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Certified mechanic perform the installation. Well, Ryan didn’t just ‘take out the old and put in the new’. He went the extra mile! They say ‘pictures are worth a million words’. Wish I would have taken ‘before the new battery’ pics and ‘after the new battery’ pics to display the difference! Not only were old cracked cables replaced; but, terminals were cleaned and corrosion protection was applied to the new connectors! BOTTOM LINE: As owner of Appalachian Auto, Ryan’s interest was in SERVICING my 2002 Nissan xTerra NOT SELLING PRODUCTS! I say this because at the end of the day, Ryan refused any compensation. I repeatedly offered; he repeatedly declined. That was the dance between this senior damsel who was in distress and this ethical, ASE Certified auto mechanic who truly cares for his customers’ wellbeing on the highway! In appreciation, C. They were quick and very helpful about the options for repair on my car. I know just enough to be dangerous. They didn't talk down to me either. Loved them

Appalachian Automotive provides professional prompt auto service at reasonable prices. They are not "parts changers" like some other shops, rather they look for effective repair/replace solutions to your automotive needs. Ryan has skilled and experienced mechanics which is important to me.
Their huge customer waiting area has super comfortable couches, magazines, and a big screen satellite TV. It rivals most car dealership waiting rooms in WNC.
And importantly, they are open on Saturdays, which is really convenient for emergency repairs. They also have a oil change coupon specials which can't be beat.

Visiting from Atlanta and my air went out just before I arrived in town. The next morning I called around to find out who in town worked on air conditioners. The owner answered and said they did. I took the car over and waited about 15-20 minutes for them to look it over. I was informed it needed a new clutch and was quoted pricing on that versus doing a whole new compressor. I appreciated being given the options as well as upfront pricing. I made arrangements to drop off the car after hours and let them work on it the next day. I thought it would be complete by lunch since they knew what was wrong and they could start first thing but it was a little later in the afternoon. Normally not a problem but the rental car place did not have anything available. They explained when I picked it up that there was a screw that was difficult and they spent a good bit of time working not to strip it. The lady at the front desk was friendly and knowledge. The waiting area had plenty of seating and a television so if you do have to wait, it is not uncomfortable. When I picked the car up, I was charged what I was quoted. They did not try to upsell me anything. I appreciated that.

The price is great, they are friendly, and get the job done. It's easy to get in if you get there early and my car was there overnight.

We had only a brief encounter with Appalachian Automotive, but we can't say enough good about it. While we were on vacation in Maggie Valley, our car's engine light went on and it was running very rough. Appalachian was open the day after Thanksgiving and they were able to look at our car immediately on a walk in basis. Ryan the owner reported back to us within a half hour. Thankfully it was only a transient issue and our car is fine. But Ryan sat down with us (in their very spacious and comfortable waiting area) and carefully explained the problem to us, including tips for avoiding it in the future. He cheerfully and professionally answered our additional questions and graciously sent us on our way with no bill and a card bearing his personal phone number in case we should have any other problems before we leave. All in all excellent service.

Great! I called when I was ready to have the service done. They never charge for diagnosing a problem, so I took my truck to them to check out the check engine light that had come on. I called so they could order the part and scheduled a time for the service to be completed. I took the truck in, they performed the work, and I was out as quickly as possible. I use them routinely for all my car repair needs.

This shop has done work for me on three occasions. Each time they have diagnosed the problem quickly and accurately. After several very positive reports on this business I took a high mileage car in for repairs. That was my first experience with this shop. I was pleasantly surprised when the needed repair was much less than I expected. They could have done the more expensive repair I suggested but instead did what was actually needed and nothing extra to run-up the bill.
Yesterday the owner prepared an estimate of just over $335 for repairs needed to pass the NC vehicle inspection. He explained what was needed and I agreed to the work at that price. When I was given the actual bill the cost was $110 less than he quoted. The owner found the part at a cheaper price and passed the savings on to me. He could have charged me the $335 we agreed upon but he was honest and I saved $110.
Appalachian Automotive used quality parts and their labor charges are very reasonable. I highly recommend them. They definitely have another loyal customer.

We have a Ford150 truck...it is certified..... one day it started to screech when we were starting the truck....we took it to our
Ford Dealership....found out one of the calipers needing replacing....wasn't covered under our warrantee....was quoted approximately $550 to do the job. Just to get another estimate, we went to Mountain View who we have purchased tires from.....
we were advised that we should change both of the calipers......and the quote was about the same.... Since we know and love
Merlin from MD Collision, we asked him what he thought, and he referred us to Ryan at Appalachian Auto.
