Rick arrived at the scheduled time and used shoe covers when entering my home so, he would not track any dirt onto my freshly cleaned carpet which was so greatly appreciated. Rick was very thorough in checking out my entire air conditioning system - thermostat temperature setting and delivery as well as the suction line temperature of my outside unit. He also thoroughly checked (capacitors, pressures, and electrical connections/wiring) and cleaned my outside unit and added a weather-resistant protective wax. Finally, he replaced both of my air filters - one downstairs which required a ladder, since it is almost two stories up near the ceiling and one upstairs. He was extremely professional, efficient, and explained everything he did. He will be returning in about 6-months to thoroughly check out my central heating system for winter and again replace my air filters. I have used this company in the past and always request Rick to come out and do the work, since he consistently does such an outstanding and very thorough job each time he comes - whether it is a testing and cleaning of my air conditioning or heating systems. I have been extremely pleased with Gentry Heating Inc. and will continue to use this company in the future for a yearly inspection of my central air conditioning and heating systems. I would highly recommend this company's services to my Asheville neighbors.

The heat pump is an American Standard with dual compressors Seer 18 2006 manufacturing date. No mention of repairing it, no offer to study how much it would cost to repair it. Just told me I needed a new unit. I had a coupon from their web site for $50 off service visit. http://www.gentryheatinginc.com/specials No small print on the page, no hidden ink, $50 off service call. The service guy said, "I can't take that". First time & last time I will ever use them. They tell me 15 minutes after being there the small compressor is bad. $8000 8 year old unit is junk and that I need both a new and outside and inside unit. Really ? This disposable society of ours is out of hand. I will find someone to repair this unit, replace the compressors which by the way are still under warranty. No one want to fix anything anymore, they all just want to you to buy a new unit. Like they are Bic lighters are something. They just don't seem to care. If I do have to end up having to buying a new unit, it won't be from them due to the attitude they showed up with. And just to think if they had homered the coupon directly from their web site I would have considered buying a unit from them if it came down to that. But not until I get 3 or 4 more opinions. So far I've had 3 service people and have been told 3 different things. But not one has offered to fix the problem. Just amazing what this world has become. It's $8000 that may not be a lot of money to most people, but it is to me. And for an 8 year old unit. Like I said I will find and honest person that want to do an honest job and fix it..not junk it.

Dear Member, I am truly sorry that you are unhappy with our company. We really do strive to "do the right thing" for our customers. Our retail services manager, Mike Young, has already sent you a check for the 50.00 coupon that you wanted to use. I listened to the recording of the phone conversation you had with Mr. Young and it is apparent that he was attempting to explain that to you when you hung up on him. I know that getting bad news about an 8 year old, costly heat pump is upsetting. I also checked the GPS records for our technicians vehicle and found that he was at your home for 1 hour and 20 minutes. His service invoice that you were given on 07/08/14 reads as follows: "The system has separate Hi and Lo stage compressors. The Lo stage compressor will not start but is trying and pulling 14.86 AAC while doing so, until overload opens up. Hi stage will still operate providing cooling to the home. On this system both compressors need to be replaced at the same time. At 8 years old and the 19#s of R22 refrigerant, it is more advisable to replace the entire system as opposed to repairing this one. Warranty usually doesn't cover labor and never covers refrigerant" I actually agree with our technician. If you look on the internet, you will find customers who have had multiple problems with this particular unit. If you look long enough, you will find someone who will give you the answer that you desire; however, our professional opinion is that you should consider replacing the system. Mike was very professional, friendly, and efficient. I think his service was great and I hope I get him on future tune-ups. I was so impressed that I bought two annual service agreements (includes twice a year inspection of HVAC system). If overall cost of service seems high, remember I have two units, requiring two service agreements. I think I got a good deal for great service. It was also easy to schedule the service. Crystal was quick to return messages and made the scheduling process easy and efficient.
Description of Work: I purchased two Big Deals for AC tune-up for $49 each. I have separate upstairs and downstairs units so had to purchase two deals. Mike the technician was great. He arrived a little late because his previous appointment ran long but he called me well in advance to let me know and give me an approximate ETA. Heat pump had been replaced by Gentry two years ago and never would really warm the house. When I called (numerous times) I was given the "heat pumps just don't feel as warm" line of bull. Finally I insisted that they come out and take a look - as it turns out they had forgotten to install/attach the heatstrips. I sent a letter to the owner who did call once, but only left a message and never followed up again. I also had them install a whole house dehumidifier which they initially installed so that the it was only servicing one room and blowing nothing but hot (fighting with air conditioning) After several conversation and two technicians they finally got it right.

Alex arrived promptly and was very courteous and professional. He got right to work and took his time in doing everything that was suppose to be performed. He found that previous service providers did not do what they were suppose to perform as he found the original tape still on some of the screws in the air conditioning housing. We were very impressed with his work and diligence to detail. Highly recommend and would use this company again.

My B for responsiveness is because I had to wait a few days for an appointment. However, the service guy showed up as scheduled. He discovered that the blower turned off automatically because the filter needed to be replaced (I had forgotten my spring service call!). He went to get me a new one, and voila - problem solved. Needless to say, I was very happy.
Description of Work: I called because the outside blower on our HVAC unit stopped working. I had used them for seasonal tune-ups, so I bought an Angie's List coupon for a service call.

The air conditioner was gasping. Dirty filters were the blame. Our hero, wearing a clean company uniform, arrived in a clean, well marked company vehicle. "I am here to rescue you.", he announced, which caused my wife to feign a swoon. He ignored the feigned near faint and set to the task at hand. He handily (footedly, to be exact) traversed in and out of our ever warming abode, and announced, "Dirty filters. They're to blame." And in a swoosh... well actually, it was more of a blpblpblpblp sound... he was gone, refusing reward of any nature. Actually, we prepaid said reward via the generous coupon at Angieslist dot you know where. No names were used in this review, but had I used any, they would have been coincidental. The end.

Everything turned out well. They arrived on time, had a reasonable price, thoroughly tested the system, and provided helpful advice.
