Even though our current 18-year old HVAC system was running, it was not keeping up during hot days. After much research, we selected Allen Kelly because of its positive reputation. While they were not the least expensive of our quotes, we wanted to go with a company we felt confident would provide us with good service. Unfortunately that was not even close to the case? Friday: The technicians installed a new HVAC system for us. Upon later inspection, we would find that they left the work area in our walk-up attic a complete mess of screws, wires and debris that required extensive clean-up by us. TWO HOURS LATER, the new unit stopped working entirely. Saturday: We called the service line and a technician on call was dispatched. After inspection, he stated we had a back pressure/vacuum issue, emptied the overflow unit and placed insulation in to allow water to drain properly. He also stated our drain was clogged (even though he admittedly only found minor debris in the unit and our original system had been previously working before it was replaced). He removed the T pipe outside which was draining the water from the house to our yard and replaced it with a 45-degree angled pipe which now drips water directly onto our foundation. TWO HOURS LATER, the new unit stopped working entirely AGAIN. Sunday: Called service line, same technician dispatched. After looking at the system, WE suggested to him that the reason the overflow drain was filling up so quickly was that the drain overflow valve wasn?t installed properly. The technician confirmed THE VALVE WAS INSTALLED IN REVERSE ORDER, then reinstalled it. However, he did NOTHING to clean up any of the previous debris the installers or he left. Monday: Called customer support to complain. Scheduled a Service Manager would come out and verify the new unit?s installation. Wednesday: Service Manager came out as scheduled. He asked for the furnace installation instructions and verified the system. He stated that the unit was working and added more coolant to this four day-old system. We stated we had very hot and cold rooms and asked if he would do an evaluation service to determine the temperature in the various rooms. He said that technical of an evaluation wasn?t needed at this time and he would adjust the dampers. Even after pointing out the extensive debris left by the installers, he did NOTHING to clean it up, nor did he do anything to fix the drain dripping on the foundation of our house. Additionally, we later found the instruction booklet on the furnace where it could have ultimately started a fire. A few days later, even though the outside temperature was 70 degrees, still half of our upstairs rooms are freezing while the other half of the rooms are too hot. At this time, we have provided this same information to Allen Kelly and are requesting our money and our old unit back. So we?ll see?
Description of Work: Replaced existing HVAC unit (complete AC/furnace system) with new unit and expanded duct work accordingly to meet current codes.

I've been very pleased. They are very good. They contact me to make sure that I get my bi-yearly visits and certainly I can call them and schedule but they will call me to make sure I get those visits and I don't always get the same employee but I get consistent reports on how things are progressing. So either they are all seeing them same thing or they have really, really good records and they are very good at following through on the records both of which would be good things. Their cost is probably a little bit high. The first time I had called them I had returned from to Europe to a house where I had no heat and when I called them it was January. It was snowy and they managed to get somebody to my home within 24 hours of my phone call, which was what I thought super impressive and they have continued to be impressive if I called and there's a concern of my air conditioning another time and they responded very quickly. So I'm a little more willing to pay a higher price for people who are able to respond quickly for a service that really is important to be able to get a fast response. So they are very professional and I've been able to depend on them for regular kinds of things but in situations that I would consider very important to be able to get a fast response they have responded very quickly and because of that the cost has been less an issue. I'm a little more cost flexible.
Description of Work: We use Allen Kelly. We have an ongoing service agreement with him where they come and they do check and service the furnace in the fall before the Winter season and Spring before the air condition season they come and service the air conditioning units and at that point they do any service that's necessary. So there's a three agreement that we pay like three years at a time that covers those bi-yearly service.

A huge shout out and recommendation to Allen Kelly & Co. Heating and Cooling!!!! They are an AMAZING company with INCREDIBLY HARD WORKING employees! Our 2 yr old A/C unit blew over a week ago and CLAY EWING from Allen Kelly went above and beyond to make sure we got our unit fixed. When other companies (highly rated ones even!) turned down helping us with the situation, Clay took the bull by the horns and made things happen. There is so much to be said for a company that hires the right people who know how to be professional, and who have the right connections. Do not hesitate to give them your business, and request CLAY!

I originally scheduled the annual service to be provided at an earlier date. Understanding that they are busy I was sure to have this scheduled >1 month in advance. When they were supposed to come to perform service they did not show up or call. I had taken time off of work based on the confirmed timeframe and did not even get a notification or apology. I called and asked what had happened and was told that they were busy. I decided to give them another chance and scheduled for 2 weeks later. The technician showed up this time and performed the service. He was very knowledgable and easy to work with. A few days later our unit had a problem and I had to have them come back out. They would not provide an approximate time - only that someone would come to the house and they would call before the show up. I called them as soon as they opened (7:00am) and did not hear back from them until nearly 11 hours later (6:00pm) The same technician visited and talked me through the problem and show me what happened and how it is fixed. The technician (Marty) was excellent and was really the only positive from the experience. I do not plan on using Allen Kelly & Co. in the future due to their lack of professionalism (no show, no window/timeframe for service) and responsiveness.

Technician arrived at the scheduled time. He did the annual maintenance on both the upstairs and downstairs unit. He also installed the wifi thermostats and walked me through the set up process--setting the temperatures by day on both thermostats and the wifi connection with the thermostats so we can access them online. He also set up several internal settings based on our preferences for the display on the thermostats. When checking the outside unit, he showed me two capacitors that were testing low and recommended they be replaced, which I agreed to since I prefer to prevent later problems instead of dealing with a problem when it occurs. He took care of the payment directly from tablet and also emailed me a receipt. The technician was very professional and helpful throughout the appointment. However, the receipt never appeared in my inbox, so I called the next day to request a receipt from the office. The first receipt they sent was incomplete, so I had to call again and they sent two separate receipt documents. However, neither receipt breaks out the detail of the cost, it only provides the detail, or is very clear to me. Previously Allen Kelly had provided a form completed by hand that was much clearer about the annual service being done and any other work.
Description of Work: Did annual maintenance on our HVAC system (air conditioning and gas heat), replaced two capacitors that the technician said were weak, and installed two wifi thermostats that I had bought at Home Depot.

Their estimate was competitive and the level of product that they provided that estimate for was better than other companies. They also did some ancillary services just for being a part of them that other companies were not willing to do. They completed the job within two days and cleaned up well after completion. Everything worked work out fine!

The easiest way to describe what happened to cause me to give them the worst possible review is to paste in an excerpt from the letter we wrote the company, demanding restitution for the problems they caused: "At 1:00 a.m. on November 15, 2013, I was sitting in my home office, about to shut my computer down and go to bed, when I began to notice an acrid, burning smell in our home. I searched the house and could not find the source. As it grew stronger and stronger, I reluctantly awoke my husband who promptly shut down the HVAC when he identified it as coming through the vents. Our first course of action was to call you, with whom we have a maintenance contract. (This, we took over from the former owner when we purchased the house from him in September. We had leased the house since 2010 so we have been the ones to interact with your technicians each time they've come out since the beginning of your association with our home.) So we contacted you on your emergency line. When no one got back to us within an hour, we called some other HVAC companies with emergency numbers. It was a cold night and we didn't know what had gone wrong or if simply turning off the heat had stopped the burning, and we didn't feel we had time to waste. Thankfully, one answered the phone immediately, and was able to help us. What he found when he went under the house was melted wires and melted fuses. The ultraviolet filter, which your company installed, had been wired improperly. The 110V UV filter was wired through the 220V heat-pump breaker box. We have been advised that because there was no neutral wire into the 220V breaker box, it was improper and dangerous to run a 110V line out of it. Your technician ran the return wire from the 110V UV filter to the GROUND BAR of the breaker box. This created a situation where the return energy had nowhere to be dissipated. Over time, it caused the near-disaster we experienced. It has taken weeks for the horrible smell of burnt plastic to die down. I had a chronic headache from it for days. Worse, I have an auto-immune disease that is exacerbated by breathing in petroleum-based fumes of any kind and my symptoms flared up due to the pollution in our home from the burning plastics. However, as unfortunate as this all was, the scariest thing is that, according to the master electrician we consulted, our house would have caught fire if we had not discovered this in time. Thankfully, I was up late that night and smelled it in time. I shudder to think what would have happened if I had gone to bed an hour earlier." We emailed them the above account (and more), with photos of the burned fuse box, etc. and all the pertinent receipts for the service calls and necessary repairs to the system. We received no reply within 30 days, so we sent copies of everything via certified mail with a warning that if they did not reimburse us for everything by a certain date, we would report them to the BBB. We did receive a check from them before our deadline with a letter saying that their records showed something different than ours did (guess this was legal CYA since we had everything documented, including the receipt for the bad wiring job they did, courtesy of our former landlord). And one more thing, which is minor, in comparison, is that one of their service techs who was here doing a regular maintenance call didn't know that the reason the numbers on our thermostat weren't readable was because the batteries in it were low. Thankfully, my husband figured it out.
Description of Work: Long story short, we leased our home for 3 years prior to buying it. Our former landlord bought a service contract with Allen Kelly & Co.and paid them to install an ultraviolet light for air purification in the crawl space of our home. When we bought the house, the maintenance contract came with it.

I have service contract with company. My wife and I are in our seventies. Heat went off in one zone during cold snap and snow storm. When I called for emergency service I was told all trucks were back in garage and they could not come. Repair was made several days later after needed part arrived and after snow began to melt. I think someone in this business should be able to provide emergency service under adverse conditions.

Technician came out and quickly diagnosed the issue as being a stuck contactor. He had the part in the truck and replaced it. Cost was $100 for labor and $140 for the contactor. The contactor sells for about $15-20 at Home Depot and online. I'm very surprised that they marked up the materials cost by this much. I am fine with paying $100 labor for a service call, and I expect a markup on materials, but a 10x markup on materials is wrong and they should not do this. I am updating this review because I talked with several other people who had work performed by Allen Kelly and they had similar stories. It seems that they have a practice of marking up materials by an obscene amount.

They had the best price and came recommended by my father in law. Their angie's list reviews were very good too. They arrived on time to install the unit. The workers told me that they did not need to add intake vents, but that is not what the salesperson had told me. They told me for the size of the unit I was buying that they would have to expand one intake and add a small intake vent. They also seemed to have trouble with the thermostat. They were using the existing thermostat because it was less than a year old. The salesperson said using the existing thermostat would be fine. Anyway, they went in and out of the house about a dozen times. Each time they came in they adjusted the thermostat and they were obviously confused. It was abut 45 degrees when they left and the unit kept kicking on, but only cold/lukewarm air was coming out of the registers. After about an hour of the temp dropping in the house I called the office and asked that a rep come out to check the work. At the end of the biz day a rep came by and inspected the work. He said that the a/c had been on all day and should not have been on, but the installers did not set up the thermostat and unit correctly. He corrected their mistakes. I also mentioned that intake vents should be added and he said someone would call me about that. They called and said that yes intake vents should be installed and that they would do it the following week. That night I perused the manual and noticed a warning on the manual that the a/c should not be run at temperatures below 60 degress because this could result in compressor damage. The a/c had been running for several hours below 50 degress so I was obviously upset. When I spoke to my sales rep she said she would look into it. 2 days later she calls to tell me, "Good news! The a/c was never on." At that point I was less than cordial and explained that directly contradicted what their rep had told me. Long story short... they eventually admitted the a/c was on at temps below 60 degrees. but would not provide any discount or extend the warranty. I am hoping it was not damaged and I have talked to experts that say damage is unlikely from running the a/c at low temps for a couple hours. Not exactly reassuring. They eventually installed another intake vent as well. However, the intake vent they expanded was very noisy and not installed properly. I wound up fixing that vent myself. 8 months after the installation I have learned that their 2 free maintenance visits that come with a new unit is actually 1 free maintenance visit. They consider the installation visit a maintenance visit. That is very misleading.

I would recommend them. The salesman and the core was responsive in determining what our need would be. We lost a/c from one year and he was able to help us out by loaning us a temporary window unit until we could get the parts that we needed to have to fix what was broken. The installers were polite, professional, and they cleaned up after themselves. They have come back for check ups and send us reminders. I found out to be big enough to be able to help us but still local enough that I enjoyed. The people that I prefer to use, DRS, is a small company. The owner and the staff are getting older so they're the one who recommended Allen Kelly and Company Inc to us because they use them us back up when they come to vacation. They work well together. When we had problems after the installation, they came back out and appeared to do some pretty technical checking of what was going on and they solve the problem. Pretty much they've been able to work with us on getting it comfortable.

We asked Allen Kelly and Co. to provide an estimate to replace our A/C unit. The Salesperson arrived on time, and was well prepared, providing estimated costs for the various options. She also suggested the unit may not need to be replaced given its age, and suggested a tech. from their company visit to inspect the unit. Within a few days a tech from Allen Kelly stopped by and after a 5 minute look told us we did not need to replace, simply needed service of our existing unit, and suggested we schedule that with Allen Kelly for a future date. I asked if they accepted checks for the payment of the visit and was ready to write a check for his inspection. He replied he had only been there a few minutes and had not done any physical work, simply a quick look, and said there would not be a charge. I thanked him and advised I would call Allen Kelly to schedule a maintenance visit. Six weeks later we received a bill from Allen Kelly for $109 which referenced the 5 minute inspection by the tech. As I am sure you are able to calculate, that would be $1,308/hour. Or if you assume they would charge $75 just for showing up, plus $39 for 5 minutes, that is still $408 an hour. We have written to Allen Kelly advising them we were told there would not be a charge, but they of course have not responded. My guess is they have decided they should not have charged us, but have ignored requests for an email, phone call or physical letter to confirm this suspicion.

We had a positive experience with Allen Kelly & Co. The estimator and installation crew were pleasant and informative. We sat down and went over different manufacturers and models. We asked about some options and were told about the pros and cons. We got a good feel from the estimator and felt no pressure. The price was significantly lower than one competitor and right in line with another so our personal interactions made the difference. On the installation day, the installers showed up promptly and finished on time. The showed us how to work the new thermostat and answered our questions. The system's been working well since. I did rate them a little lower in professionalism because I did find several screws and some aluminum tape in our yard the next time I went to mow. I had to take some time to clean up the area to make sure I didn't go over them with the lawnmower and potentially have an issue.

We called on a hot Sunday afternoon when the ac had failed to keep the house cool for a second day. Our regular ac repair person had not responded for over 24 hours. I consulted Angie's list and made the call Allen Kelly. A serviceman was here in 25 minutes and quickly figured the issue out. He was very pleasant as he replaced the part and was finished in less than 30 minutes. I used the coupon and got a nice discount, too!

I was promised service 4 days after signing bid, repair was pushed off for 2 weeks. They did offer to install window units temporarily but it wasn't convenient as I work out of town. When they got here they elected to replace the 3 year old upper unit sitting next the 19 year old bottom unit. Once I reviewed their work I advised them they replaced the wrong unit. After calling their office they were advised that their work order was wrong. So after tearing apart my upper unit they had to rebuild it and start over. This, of course, kept me at home for 9 hours instead of 3.5 and I was unable to make any business calls all day. I was told that my salesman Andy incorrectly wrote that it was the upper unit that needed to be replaced and that was went out on the work order. But in my opinion, as an installer I would double check with the homeowner that it was the new clean unit that I wanted replaced rather than the smaller older rusted out unit sitting next to it.
