Our company has long been a trusted name in the heating and cooling community when it comes to providing year-round indoor comfort and HVAC system repair and installation.
Another excellent experience with this company. I had noticed the a/c problem mid-day Sunday. I assumed that it was a problem with the evaporation coil that had been identified on 6/14/2010. I assumed that this meant it was time to replace the coil as I thought that the freon had leaked out of the system in just 2 weeks. Called co. at 9 a.m. Monday to find out the cost of replacing the evaporation. The only hitch in this experience was clear miscommunication btw. sales desk and service managers. I had not gotten a call back by 2 p.m. w/ cost estimate. When I called at 2 p.m., I asked if a technician could be sent to at least fill up the system with freon while I waited to get an estimate and set up an appt for the replacement. Sales clerk said that she thought that could happen. By 6 p.m. when I hadn't received a call or seen a technician. I waited until 7 p.m. and then called back to leave a msg on their emergency line. W/n 15 min. a technician called me and headed out to my home. Technician arrived, heard my explanation of what had happened during the day and he called the service manager. They gave me the estimate for the replacement and said that he would go ahead an fill up the freon and we would schedule the replacement. (See above) I opted to continue to monitor the system as is for now. Technician patiently answered all of my questions. Then left. In a couple of hours my house had cooled down and the system continues to work without any problems. Despite the earlier mis-communication btw the reception/sales and technicians, I was still impressed that I was able to get my problems resolved within 10 hours of the first call and on neither service visit did I feel that the company attempt to take advantage of me -- when they could have insisted that I needed replacement parts or a whole new system. I think that if I had been more clear during the 9 a.m. that I wanted someone to come out that I would have had service sooner. I once again used Angie's List discount. Having been happy with the ultimate responsiveness and the service I have decided to sign up with them for the 3 year service agreement (including a 10% Angies List discount).
Description of Work: Technician tested the system and realized that this time the 90 degree heat in my house, did not have anything to do with lost freon or the evaporation coil leak. A converter or dual cap had worn out. Technician showed me the difference between the old cap and a new cap. He had the cap replaced w/n 15 minutes and the system started up. House started to cool down almost immediately. He talked with me about the age of my a/c unit (7 yrs old), acknowledged that there was a leak in the evaporation coil and discussed the options: replace the part (knowing that I have about 5 more years left on the unit), replace the whole system (availing myself of the current energy credit), or to do nothing. I never felt any pressure to make a particular decision.

I was very happy with the professionalism of the sales staff and the installers The sales guy took a walk around my house and gave me tips on how to increase energy efficiency, gave me VERY detailed information about the options available so I could make an informed decision. I didn't feel pressured at all. Overall it was a very positive experience. The only way I can see it improving is if I had a follow up phone call from the salesman. Just so I knew that Allen Kelly cared that I was happy with everything.. but that is very minor especially since I am totally happy with everything. Thanks guys!

I love them! What a night and day difference from our experience a few days ago with Triangle Service Pros. With Triangle, they recommended we replace our entire unit within a minute of arriving, charged us to show up to our residence and never even went outside to look at our unit. Allen Kelly & Co was completely different! They were so booked up they had to give me an estimated service date of about 5 days out, but promised to call me sooner if their was an opening ASAP. They called within 24 hours and had someone at our home. Kelly was our technician, and he was just AWESOME. I could tell he was a good guy the moment we met him, and felt completely comfortable that we weren't going to be 'scammed.' He brought his equipment with him to our unit directly, before even asking what the problem was. It's likely we will need a new unit (we already know we have a leak), but he went ahead and filled it with coolant for us and we instantly had cold air! He knew this would likely buy us some time while we figured out finances and how we are going to afford a new system, and called in right then (while waiting on our system to fill) to get us a basic estimate, as well as discussing insulation and other questions my husband had with us. Total charge was $170, which I thought was totally reasonable (and especially since the other company tried to charge us over $450 for the same thing 3 days ago). Not to mention he was sweet to my 2 toddlers (they took to him right away). I'm so comfortable with this company, that we are going to call tomorrow to arrange an estimate for a new system.....if all their employees are as good as Kelly, I'm sure we'll be taken care of. I wish I would have just waited for an opening with them in the first place instead of moving on to a company that could come right away. There's a reason there's a slight wait for a tech with this company....it's hot outside and they're the best!!

Arrived home around 5pm to find it 94 degrees upstairs. Called another company for after-hours repair, they initially said they'd come, but two hours later called us back saying they couldn't. Called this company soon after, and a representative called us back immediately and by 7:50 had a technician (Henry) on site. Henry evaluated the situation, quickly found the problem, and by 8:30 we had cool air flowing again. He apologized for the after-hours diagnostic fee ($135) but given the heat, we were glad to pay it! Henry was pleasant and professional the entire time. Would definitely use again.

The AC was fixed however the tech had to up in the attic as well as use our water hose in back to clean out a pipe. Coming in and out of the attic he left a lot of insulation on the floor, as well as a trail of it leading in and out of the house. When he used the spickett in back he disconnected our hose and did not reconnect it. While he worked quickly and listened to my description of issues, as well as cleaning out the pan, I was surprised at not cleaning up after himself or at least mentioning it. I'm 7months pregnant, so it was a lot of work for me to do.
Description of Work: Our AC went out on a Monday. I called that day and had someone at the house first thing Wednesday, though it was a call-ahead notice of just minutes (actually had to ask them to wait 30 minutes since I was not at home). Unit was checked, cleaned, and a part replaced. It took about 1.5 hours.

My AC went out on a extremely hot Saturday. Dispatch was very pleasant! They were able to get a service technician out within a few hours! Service man was very nice and professional. I really don't have much to compare to as far as cost. But concidering it's a Saturday and he arrived within a few hours, and the temp in my house was creeping up to 90 degrees, I happily paid! I would recommend and use this company again.
Description of Work: The problem was a clogged drain and full driOnly took him about 15mins to shopvac the water out and clear the drain. Not really sure if 200.00 is a fair price or not.(110.00 service call, and 90.00 to drain and clear the line)

It was a great experience from start to finish. They were prompt with all the work, explained in detail what needed to be done, stood by their estimate, answered all my questions, worked with me on payment, replaced both units in one day. They sent two crews so that the work could get done in one day. The representative (Andy) was very helpful in guiding me in choices of the units. I was able to get rebates from Progress Energy and a discount from Allen Kelly with the Angie's List coupon. How wonderful it that! I went by the office and met the staff. All were very friendly, helpful and very, very professional. They are tops on my list and I would highly recommend.

A/C stopped working late Friday night, called Saturday morning and service tech arrived in afternoon. Henry Lewis, Jr called shortly after our message and arrived on time. I was happy to find such an excellent company thru Angie's List. They did an excellent job in cleaning and checking everything to make sure nothing else was wrong in my 3 yr. old Trane air conditioners. They had to pump in Freon until my parts come in to fix the leaky valves otherwise we would be without an air conditioner. The Tech, Marty told me about a rebate program thru Progress Energy that would give me $45 a unit for having the unit cleaned. That means I get back $90 for the 2 air conditioners. That was so nice of him. He also took the time to explain about the leak and the dirty coils. He also gave me new filters for the house. That was part of his service. I received 10% off the service contract and 15% off all service calls because of their coupon of Angie's List.
Description of Work: The air conditioner was not cooling the house. They found a leak in the valves. They ordered the parts and so far the parts have not come in. I also signed up for a service contract. Therefore, we can have the air conditioner cleaned and maintained every 6 mo. They came back to clean the air conditioner and he did a very good job in cleaning and checking everything else in my 2 air conditioners.

Their diagnostic fee was $20-$40 higher than most companies, but otherwise were professional and did a good job. Technician performed a diagnostic because I smelled gas. He used a nifty micro-camera to look into the workings of the furnace and was able to show me the problem on the screen. He didn't perform repairs because I needed to replace the furnace.

We have a split system, gas pack downstairs and heat pump upstairs. The upstairs has been down since last summer. The gas pack, which was normally very reliable, has been putting out cold air. I called Allen Kelly last Friday based on their reputation in Angie's List. Their tech (Vince) came that afternoon. He spent two hours here going through both systems. He explained to me what was wrong with the heat pump upstairs and that the cold air coming down was going directly into the gas pack downstairs and that's what was causing the lack of heat (and extremely high propane bills!). Vince checked out the gas pack completely, said there was nothing wrong with it. Checked the duct work, etc. Everything checked out downstairs. Said the coil was rusted out upstairs. It's an old, cheap system but we can't afford to replace the whole thing. He went the extra mile and found a replacement coil here in town and today, just three business days later, it's installed. The heating upstairs is better than I ever remember it (and it's cold today!) and the heating downstairs is already better. Two for the price of one! Also, last Friday, when he first showed up, it was raining heavy. Not a single complaint. No cutting corners. Made sure he didn't track mud into the house (we have white rugs). I can't say enough good things about Vince. As a representative of the company he's the best. He had all the latest tools. Everything looked good and the site was clean when he left. Bottom line, we've found ourselves a new HVAC company. And, when we do replace this system (we didn't install it the first time!) Allen Kelly will do the work!

Found major problems with the coil in the air exchanger in the heat pump (upstairs) system and the downstairs (gas pack) checked out fine. Installed new coil. This was a terrific experience from start to finish. I actually got an estimate last summer, knowing that my units were 18 years old and didn't have too much life left in them. I was given several options. I asked if there would be a discount if we waited until the winter, and was told there would be. I was hoping to do the installation in February, but my furnace had other ideas. It died on Tuesday morning, the 26th. I called Allen Kelly and told them I'd like to go ahead and do the installation now- Brett Chappell, called me back and said he had good and bad news. The good news- even though the equipment quoted was out of date and we had to use updated Trane equipment, he was going to honor the quote they gave me in the summer and the old Angie's List discount. The bad news- they had to order the system and it wouldn't be in until Friday! (yes, this was the weekend of the snowstorm). I had shopped around in the past, and although the price wasn't the lowest around, it was not even close to the highest- I'd say it was an extremely fair deal for the system. Based on that, and the excellent customer service I had received so far, I decided to bite the bullet (and freeze for 3 nights!) and go with Allen Kelly. Boy, was I glad I did. The office was in touch with me about the progress of the job and they were actually able to get started on Thursday afternoon. No heat until Friday, but each day, the crew came in exactly when they said they would. They were all business. Got right to work, no idle chitchat. They covered as much of my carpet as they could- the installation of the furnace wasn't easy- the attic access is in a small bedroom closet, and it took some skill to maneuver around obstacles. The furnace was installed and the place heated up quickly on Friday afternoon. Only one minor complaint- it was hard to clean up the all insulation in the closet that fell from the attic, and some of it got on my clothes. No big deal, though, it was easy enough to brush off the clothing and do a quick vacuum pass. This company appears to place a premium on customer service, and I really appreciated that. I won't be able to test the AC unit for a few months, but I am really happy that I decided to go with Allen Kelly. They will definitely get my business in the future. Great job!

Very pleased with services provided.
Description of Work: Signed up for a maintenance contract where they come out twice a year, once in the Spring for AC servicing and once in the Fall/Winter for heating service and cleaning. Technician was very professional and went out of his way to explain what he was doing and what should be done each time from a servicing perspective. Did have to replace a couple of minor parts which appeared to be like voltage regulators which apparently need to be replaced every 3 years or so, this on top of the regular maintenance was why it was just over $400.

It went pretty well. I would use another company just because I have found a couple of other companies that do great work and are about 30% cheaper. I was not disappointed with the service just the price. I was desparate to have air conditioniong and I overpaid.
Description of Work: I got a new heat and air system. Our air broke on the hottest day of the year. We had Allen Kelly come out and give us an estimate as well as 2 other companies. Their price was a little high but they quickly reduced it to a more reasonable price when I quoted a competitors price. They didn't do a couple of things they said but came back after I called them. I faxed a copy of the report on a Friday afternoon and was told I should have an estimate by the end of the day. One person was assigned to take care of this estimate and when I called towards the end of the day, he had left for the weekend and would not return until Tuesday or Wednesday. I patiently waited until then, but when I called towards the end of the day on WEDNESDAY, I was told that this person would not get the estimate to me until Thursday! It's just an estimate, how long can that take? Later in the afternoon on Thursday, I received a call from a secretary that passed along the estimate....the amount of their estimate was double what I ended up paying. By this time I had already set up an appointment with a different company who gave me an estimate immediately over the phone first time around and very reasonable....niiiice!!! Bottom line - Allen Kelly's customer service was a big disappointment and price was out of range!.

WE did drop the ball but here are the circumstances. First the estimate we gave the customer was a “worst case scenario” price. This was a sight unseen quote and we wanted to make sure the customer was not surprised if the worse case became reality. I’m sure the actual price we would have charged the customer would have been in line with the other company. As far as the timing of connecting with the customer; here is where we fumbled. The service manager is the only person that can give an estimate for a sight unseen job. He was out in the field that day that the quote came in. He ended up getting injured on the job and went home, not returning to the office. That is why he was not to return until Tuesday or Wednesday. Turns out the injury was more serious than thought and he did not return until Thursday. It was not that we took the customer’s need lightly we just did not have a good system in place for a back up. Because of this specific instance we have implemented new systems that will assure a timely response if our service manager is out of the office. We value every opportunity to serve our customers both existing and new. There are times we are not perfect but we always take that as an opportunity to improve our customer focus.

Downstairs AC unit quit cooling. We turned it off and checked Angie's for HVAC people. Kelly's spotless record impressed us; we called them and a few hours later their technician arrived. He spent 5 - 10 minutes looking at the system and 50 trying to sell my wife a new system, or at least a new downstairs system. I got laid off months ago; her company closed its doors 8/28 -- she explained that we just need the system fixed. "Okay, it's low on freon ... why not find the leak, fix it, refill it, and let us pay something we can afford?" "Oh, I don't know how much it would cost to fix it ... ain't no way to know until it's fixed ... might cost more." While she begged the guy to fix it he continued to try other sales angles (energy efficiency, resale value, reliability ...). She gave up and said "Just leave it alone. Go, please." And the guy insisted on collecting $109 for listening to his sale pitch. Get paid for making unsuccessful sales calls? I wish I could find a gig like that.

Brett Chappell (Sales Manager) This customer's dissatisfaction was not brought to my attention prior to the posting of the report. I contacted the homeowner on 9/24/09. I listened to her complaint. I then spoke to our service technician and service manager. Our conclusion is that our service technician did not act with the customer's best interest in mind. This is a violation of our strict service commitment policy and the technician will be reprimanded. I told her that I was sorry for the level of service she received and that it was in no way indicative of the level of service Allen Kelly & Co. strives to provide. I told her that a refund for the full amount she paid us would be sent to her the following week. I further explained that even with our strict policies that sometimes we do make mistakes. That being said, we stand behind our work with the promise of 100% satisfaction. She told me she would be satisfied with the full refund.
