Ken was very responsive from beginning to end of the job. His pricing was extremely competitive and he offered tips on saving money in purchasing tile. He showed up on time everyday and worked all day to finish as scheduled. He did a beautiful job on our flooring. We did ask him to come back and fill in some spots in the grout, which he was very eager to do. We are very pleased with how the bathroom turned out!

Ken was very prompt in returning my request. He called when running last to estimate due to traffic. Very good price! We had a delay in installation because of the weather. He was in contact with me during this time. He was here on time on a Saturday morning to install my tile. Beautiful work!!!! He cleaned everything as he worked!!! Very happy with his work. I will recommend him in the future!

Mr. Ken Moses did an excellent job in my house and it's very pleasant to work with him. The project started on Monday and finished on Friday. Ken came to my house sharp on time every day - arriving 7:45am and leaving at about 6pm. That worked perfectly with my working schedule. He replied each of my phone calls and text messages promptly. I am a registered PE of Civil Engineering. Ken is one of the most hard-working people that I have seen. He is very dependable and very serious about his work. I saw him how to do some of the detailed steps, which took a lot of patience. At the end, when I look at my new floor, I just love it! ^^ Ken came to work on my house the first day after Thanksgiving weekends. I am grateful for everything that he had done for me ~

Mr Moses met with me for an estimate at our scheduled time. He estimated 2 days work for the job to remove and reinstall the floor grouting in the kitchen, den, and workroom. Also the main hallway. 5 loose tiles needed removed and replaced. This work to be done on my 50 year old house. I did supply 50 pounds of grouting of my choosing. Mr Moses arrived at 0800 Each day and worked until about 4.I didn't see him take an actual lunch break. The only thing that did not go according to plan was that the job took 3 full days rather than 2. The final payment for the job was the same as the estimate. No excuses. 90% of being a successful tile man is showing up and doing the work. The other half is a positive attitude.

The initial scheduling was a little confusing. Ken advised me to get a plumber to set the collar around the drain pipe. I called several plumbers and they did not know what I was talking about. I got mixed advice from several plumbers and found it a very difficult small job to sub-out. When I told Ken of my frustration and confusion, he contacted the plumber for me and set it up. After that, it was smooth sailing. Ken was very punctual, professional and finished the job in one and a half days by himself. The tile floor looks great! There were a few small areas where the tile cuts were kind of rough but it was limestone 2x2" tiles which I imagine were difficult to work with. Overall, we were very pleased and would use Ken again..

Mr. Moses did an excellent job. Once he completed his measurements for the tile, he gave us instructions and guidance on purchasing the tile and grout. All supplies were ready for him to start work on day one. He arrived at the agreed upon time and followed the schedule we discussed. Mr. Moses did a great job of cleaning up at the end of each day. We provided him a key to the house for access and we went to work. Mr. Moses was excellent in responding to our questions before he began our job and during the work - he was always accessible. We met with Mr. Moses at the end of each day before he left to review progress and any changes. We brought in a plumber to install new shower hardware during the tile installation phase and Mr. Moses was most accommodating. On the final day, Mr. Moses gave us final instructions on letting the grout dry and the wipe-down process. We will work with Mr. Moses again when we update our guest bathroom.
Description of Work: Mr. Moses removed all tile from the bathroom (demolition phase) and completely retiled bathroom shower (floor and walls) bathroom walls, around tub and floor. Mr. Moses removed all tile and wallboard debris from the demolition phase to outside the house so that we could finish the disposal at a local recycle facility. In addition to a complete bathroom tile make-over, Mr. Moses installed a recessed wall shelf into the shower wall to hold shower items. Mr. Moses did all the work himself, no outside contractor.

He informed me that he was busy and if I texted him my address and number he would return my call to schedule an appointment. He never called back or contacted. There was no professionalism.

Ken was very punctual, professional and very friendly, hard working, he was working long hours with no breaks. He did not leave the job until it is finished. He also helped me to deliver tons of tiles to the house from the vendor. One thing I wished to be done better that I can point out was the grouting which was done very fast and we end up going though a lot of effort cleaning and removing a lot of dusts ourselves for many days after he left, but other than that everything else went well. I would hire him again. Thanks

This was our second time using Affordable Tiles by Moses which I think tells you enough! Ken was great with communicating in regards to scheduling, obtaining the right materials, and ensuring that we were satisfied. He showed up promptly and stayed until the job was done. He is very friendly and polite and takes caution to ensure our home was well maintained throughout the process. Wish we had more projects to tile!

Mr. Moses contacted me promptly after purchasing my voucher on Angie's list and was able to get me on his schedule the following week. He informed me how long it would take him to complete the work, which was right on point. He went above and beyond the call of duty and helped move my appliances out of my kitchen, which took a lot longer than I had anticipated because I thought that removal of my refrigerator doors was simple and was far from that! Mr. Moses was very professional and an all around great guy. I will definitely be calling him to do any tile work that I need done in the future!

We called Moses in November to get a quote on these jobs. We informed him that we wouldn't be ready to start the work until after the holidays. He said that was fine, he would still honor the quote at that time and to give him a call when we were ready. He gave us some helpful suggestions for buying tile for the floor. We agreed to remove the old tile and concrete board ourselves. We know this is a very messy part of the job, so we preferred to do it ourselves. Moses let us know that would reduce the costs because he is charged a lot to dispose of the material. When we were ready to start the work, we called Moses to schedule. He was very accommodating and arranged the projects around our calendar. He emailed a couple of days before to remind us he would be at our home at 8am on Monday. He arrived a little early and got right to work. We got snow on Tuesday and outdoor temperatures dropped into the teens. He had to skip Tuesday, but that was best considering the bad roads. The freezing weather did not stop Moses from working rest of the week, even staying late one evening despite the threat of more snow. He continued rest of the week, cutting the tile outside in the brutal cold, never complained or asked to delay the job. We won't have blamed him if wanted to wait for it to warm up a little. He was done with everything by Friday that week. He kept his promise and charged us the quoted price. He said he didn't realize what type of tile we would be using for the kitchen and should have charged us a little more considering the difficulty of that part of the project. We ordered a special grout from Illinois that contains glass chips for the kitchen. Moses said he had never worked with that before and it was tricky to spread and wipe. The only reason we are given a B grade is because there is a haze on some of the kitchen tile from the grout. This is not a big deal, we've called the company in Illinois and we are ordering a product that is meant to clean this particular grout.

Floors=good, shower=bad. We found Mr. Ken Moses with good reviews on Angies List and contacted him for an estimate. Estimate was fair and he seemed knowledgeable, confident, professional, and provided detailed numbers for tile sq/ft (as tile purchase is on the part of the customer and not provided by contractor). Ken said he would put up plastic sheet to keep mess contained to bathroom and said we would need to coordinate plumber to switch the drain from fiberglass to tile-compatible. During demolition of existing fiberglass shower enclosure, no plastic was taped up over doorway area so there was a big dusty mess in our bedroom causing sore throats and a lot of extra cleaning on our end. We offered to send Mr. Moses a picture of our tile selection prior to beginning his work but he said it wasn’t necessary. The day before shower wall installation he said that our selected 12x12 subway tile on mesh was not a good pick because "it can leak and is hard to clean." We scrambled over to home depot and asked the tile pros there and they said the leaks and cleaning have not been a problem and indicated that it sounded like our vendor did not want to install it. We also asked friends and co-workers and found people who had the same tile in their shower. He never admitted that he had never installed subway tile before, instead he only tried to steer us toward the solid 12x12 tiles. We proceeded with subway tile. As the tile went up, we began to notice sloppy work - crooked tiles, uneven lines, etc. We pointed them out to Ken and he assured us that once the grout is up "it will look a lot better" and even told us "don't look too close" at the errors. We repeatedly stated, "we know you have good reviews and you're a professional so we count on you to make it look good." When we suggested spacers for the wall, he assured us that "spacers are for the floor and not for mesh tiles on the wall". After the grout went up the crooked tiles still look bad, there was missing grout, spots where the mastic was pushing through between the tiles, even an angle of tiles jutting out where the wall wasn't leveled/smoothed/prepped for tile, and the trim was very poor. The toilet was grouted to the floor (a big no-no as people need to see if there is ever a problem with a leak and the grout would cover, therefore leading to hidden leaks under the floor and through to the floor below). It looks sloppy around the edges - see photos. We called him back to address these issues and even marked the tiles with a china pen, he proceeded to fix the jutted tiles and some of the missing grout (the missing grout was filled in using a different ratio/mix grout so the color is different than the first) yet we are still left with places with missing grout (including around the floor drain) and several crooked/sloppy tiles that remained untouched. In speaking with Ken about this he assured me of several things: “If I did this 100 times it wouldn’t be any different” and the tile issues were due to the subway tiles being on sheets (vs each tile being placed independently). With these two statements I can only assume Ken cannot do high quality work with subway tiles and there is no need to continually call him back to fix something that he is happy to put on his website (his statement). External confirmation with friends and other professionals has confirmed that the work done on our shower is sub-par. Photos speak volumes of our experience. We installed our subway tile backsplash ourselves and it looks better than our new shower (we are not, and never have claimed to be tile professionals). We also made extensive use of spacers to prevent the crooked tiles we see in our shower. Other tile professionals, I’ve also learned, also use spacers on vertical tiles. We have two neighbors looking for similar work in their bathrooms and upon showing them the work they will not hire Mr. Moses. After our experience it seems he doesn't know how to work with this type of tile. Judging by his positive reviews, we assume this project must have been out of his league because he really let us down. The floor turned out fine - 22 tiles at 12x24 - the right kind of job for Ken. I still say he is a nice person, this is not a personal issue. As a contractor, as a "tile professional" he should do better to inform if he is inexperienced with a certain type of tile or decline taking the job. We are out $2295 plus the cost of the tiles. We are unhappy with the job. We have addressed it with him and, while he added some grout and fixed some tiles jutting out, he indicated that it's as good as it will get with regards to the crooked tile. This has been a real headache. We have been without a shower in that bathroom going on 3 weeks now as we are stuck fixing the grout ourselves just to get it to a point where it will be usable. Cleanup: we found two trash bags of debris and unused cement dumped in our recycle bin - we had to fish those out and dispose of properly in the trash. He also dumped left over grout in a hole in our front yard.

Response from Affordable Tile by Moses
Before I started this job, I explained to customer that the tile he bought for the shower is not an ideal tile for shower tile. This tile is 12" x 12" interlock 2" x 3" in mash, designed mainly for kitchen backsplash. Customer wanted to do subway tile, I was advising the customer to buy the individual 2" x 4" subway designed for subway tile style and it's better for the overall outcome in installation, but customer did not listen to me. Customer's shower is 5' x 8', 3' x 8' x 2, the size of the shower makes it very difficult to achieve the best result. Customer was arguing with me - questioning me if I have done subway tile before. I have installed many subway tile in 14 years in business ( see my web site) I was trying to help him to understand that the tile he bought is not subway tile. Subway tile is 2" x 4" individual tile NOT the 12" x 12" interlock 2" x 3" in mash in subway patten, but he went against my advise. I spent many hours preparing his wall (wall was swolled because of trapped moisture in the bathroom), some part of the sheet rock was completely separated from the stud, and I fixed it. I also spent time supporting the studs in shower area to help the transition between the existing wall thickness and the new cement board.. Customer failed to mention that he received free demolition of the existing shower (5 hours hard labor - $250.00 worth ), also I did his shower pan (average charge $295.00) free of charge because he didn't want to pay the plumber to do it. After the installation, I went back and fixed everything he pointed out that he did not like, even though, most of what he pointed out came from the wall condition and the tile he bought - especially around the line between the old wall and the new wall. I did ask the customer to let me know if he needed me to come back. I did everything I can to make the customer's shower to look as good as possible. Tile installation require adjustment in the process, inter lock tile presents problem when you need to make an adjustment to keep the tile level with other tiles, any adjustment made on one tile in the sheet effects all the tiles, so it present issues in a large area, and that's why is good for kitchen backsplash which has a much smaller area to cover. I will always put my very best effort to both durability and outlook in all my installation.

I called the lady and I talked to her about it. I had written the man a good reference, and he did a good job on his work, and I took my review down because he was not very professional. He had a thick accent, which made it difficult to communicate. When he was here, he wrote down the estimate on a piece of paper, nothing was itemized, so when it came time to take away my coupon, it got very difficult to know what I was getting and what I was not getting. I asked for an itemized statement, and he couldn't give me one. I thought he would have one of the charge things that people charge from, and most contractors that I have dealt with have that, and I never thought about him not having that, which was probably my fault for no asking. When it came time to paying, I asked him if he has one of the things for charging, and he said he did not have it, and I asked if he could give me a few days to transfer the money from our investment account to our savings account, because I didn't have enough dollars in the account to write a check. I told him that I would call my broker that day and have it transferred, and I would call him when it got transferred into our account. He called me a couple of days later and told me he was going to cash the check. I said he could not do that because it takes a few days and that was over a weekend. I told him that I would call him when it went into the account. A couple of days later, he called me again, and said he was going to put it in there because his wife didn't believe him about the money. She thought he was holding out on her with the money. I was completely baffled about it. He really messed up our carpet. Our house is in a U shape and he didn't care about my property. He messed my toilet seat, and my carpet. He is an engineer by trade, so he pays attention to detail, but he put grout around the commons, so when somebody came to work on the toilet, it was grouted to the floor. The plumber said that he had never seen anybody do that before. The work he did on the shower was great, but I would not recommend him to anybody, because he was difficult to work with. He has everything scheduled out, and it is one thing behind the other, so if he gets delayed by one day, then everybody else gets behind by one day, so I feel like he put pressure on us. He has a big, huge truck with the Angie's List award, and he wants that title back very badly, and he told me this. I had to have the carpet cleaned, and he put down a towel at the door, and that is all he put down. I told him about it, and he put something else down there that moved, so I am not sure I will be able to get some of the spots out. I had purchased the big deal for $1499, and then I had paid him an additional amount. He doesn't get the tile for you, you have to get the tile yourself. He says he has a selection of tile for you to choose from, but he only has a selection of 6 tiles. You have to get all the supplies, and then he does the work. I don't know if I got taken on a ride or what, because the lady I spoke to, said everybody should give me an itemized bill. He was good in the beginning, but the check business, and then when I would question him about something, he would say he has been doing it for 15 years.

This is a very dishonest customer, After the completion of the customer's shower and floor tile job then the customer told me that she did not have money in the bank to pay for the job. Customer should have disclose this to me before the job started; especially, when I was the one who provided all the materials except tile and the grout. The customer asked to be given a week to come up with the payment, and I did. customer wrote a post dated payment check seven days from the completion of the tile job - just to give her time to come up with the payment, but after a week, customer called me and told me not to deposit the check because she still did not have money in her account to pay for the job. She kept telling me that she did not have money in the bank any day I suppose to deposit her check that she wrote for job, until I gave her deadline to pay for the job, or I will deposit her check, and that's what I did. Customer gave me an A review after the completion of her job, and took the review down when I gave the customer a deadline to pay for the job after 12 days of completing her job. I appreciate her business, but before the start of a project, it's proper for a customer to disclose to contractor when to expect to get paid after the contractor completed the job. The contractor should decide whether to take the job or not. Everything was in condition as it was when I came there. I was not aware of any stain on the carpet or damaged toilet seat, or anything else, and customer did not inform me about toilet seat damaged - Her plumber was working on her toilets when I was there and after I finished

The contractor was prompt and in an effort to keep my place clean, he prepared the cement and grout mixture in the back of his pickup truck. Good quality products were used and the result of the work performed was very good. At no additional charge, he put in extra time and work to do the upper portion of the shower walls which was not in the original effort and as a result, the replacement grout ended matching in the entire inside of the shower stall. This contractor is very concerned with doing an excellent job and it shows. I would refer him to others.
Description of Work: Removed and re-grouted tile inside shower stall.
