I had a contract with them. We had a major heat wave early in the summer and my air conditioning system went down. The contact was supposed to give me priority service and they quoted me 8 days until they could get to me. We have a young child and it was absolutely ridiculous. I called a random company and they said they would be there tomorrow. I had been, probably, a 3 year customer with MTB. They were here for spring and fall maintenance. The other contractor came the next day and fixed it on site so I hired them and have a contract with them now. It was poor when I called them to cancel the contract. They just said, okay, and that they would send my money back. Their prices were very fair, but their service was not reliable.

MTB customers are not accustomed to having to wait for service, unfortunately the summer or 2015 was the third hottest on record and even though our technicians and support staff worked days, nights and weekends, the demand created a backlog. When this customer expressed their dissatisfaction and requested a refund for their maintenance agreement we simply did as they asked and mailed them a check. Our maintenance agreement customers were given priority and were being scheduled days ahead of those without agreements.

The contractor provided some of the requested information for the proposed design. For the most requested element of the air flow distribution, however, contractor did not answer.
Description of Work: Would not explain certain elements of the system design. Contractor unilaterally decided not to do the project.. Contractor was not used for this new home installation. Project was delayed several weeks while new contractor was found.

Some reviews are just hard to write. The MTB staff is pleasant, professional, and punctual. Every associate we spoke with expressed pride in their company. Most have been with MTB for many years. The price for the new equipment was reasonable, and in line with what we expected to pay. We want to emphasize that MTB did their utmost to solve all the problems that arose during the replacement of our system. However, several problems did arise during installation and it took 2 months to resolve the issues (at least we think they are resolved). This will simply recount the chain of events and we repeat, MTB made all the correct responses. The only question is why this routine procedure required so many response calls. Were we just unlucky or do Lennox systems often have this type of problems? Problem 1: The emergency heat coils in the inside part of the unit (air exchange) were defective on arrival and the installer realized this and arranged to order replacements. This of course required a follow up visit, which was just as well, as the anti-bacterial black light (problem #2) didn't work either and had to be fixed. Problem 3 was a communication issue. We thought we understood that the new unit would periodically circulate the air in our home without activation of the heating/cooling unit (variable speed fan). We learned during install that this wasn't the case with the unit we chose, but was part of the less expensive unit we decided against. Purely a communication issue but, having a two story home we felt the re-circulation feature was important, and MTB came up with a solution. They installed a better thermostat at no extra charge which took over this function and should have solved the problem. Should have, but that's not what happened. Problem 4 showed up a week later when the unit would not cool our home during 90+ degree days. We could get down to 80, but that was as cool as it could manage, and the unit never stopped for at least 5 days. We called MTB and they sent a service man on Sunday morning to try and fix this. The service tech was very knowledgeable and helpful and said we had a flawed mixing valve. He had to order a replacement. So, we endured two more days of high temps and I had to take another 1/2 day off work when the valve came. It was installed and didn't fix the problem. At all. From the tech who installed the new valve we earned that the air from our vents should be 20 degs. cooler than the thermostat setting and we weren't even clost to that. He correctly diagnosed that the HEAT STRIP WERE RUNNING WITH THE A/C ON!. We were heating our cooled air! He could not figure out why this was happening, so he disconnected the strips until an electrical person could check it. Which was 3 days and another 1/2 day off work later, The next tech, who was the same person who visited on the previous Sunday, found a wiring problem and fixed it. MTB agreed to reimburse us for our excess power usage and all seemed well until the next Sunday when we tried to turn on just the fan and found that it did not work unless the outside unit was on. Nor was the re-circulation feature working. (problem 5) One more service call later, fortunately on a Saturday (MTB does have good weekend hours), another wiring error was found and corrected. Now, two weeks after that last call I am finally submitting this review. We can't fault MTB for the problems, and don't really feel the Lennox system is bad. But this was, quite frankly, a tiring experience and even though MTB went above and beyond to satisfy us, we still worry if there is a lemon in our back yard. We hope MTB can use this information to improve the checklists for installation and perhaps avoid a similar occurrence in the future. Respectfully Submitted

Replacing a HVAC system is not something a person typically looks forward to. So I approached getting quotes for replacing our 24 year old system with some uncertainty and concerns about cost, equipment and installation. I received 6 quotes from various companies for a replacement system and can say yours was the most competitive and easy to understand of them all. From the sales process through the installation everything exceeded my expectations. In particular your installation team of Van Floyd and Jimmy Antonopoulas were fantastic to work with and did a excellent job with the installation. I couldn't be more happy with my choice and the installation of the unit!

2006 new install. In 2013, evaporator coil went bad @ $2200. In Jan 2015, blower went bad @ $650. In April 2015, came out and stated evaporator coil went bad again (?!?) and it's out of warranty, so they want another $2200. Nope. Mind you, systems should last (on average) 15 years - and certainly a nearly rebuilt system should make it 15 years. If the system is a lemon - they need to fight on our behalf with their suppliers, but they simply shrug their shoulders and put their hand out for more money. Buy a Trane - use Acosta or Horne. MTB provides 'builder grade' equipment and no confidence. They are good at being on time, answering the phones, and invoicing.

Interesting that this homeowner just purchased this home in April 2015. The house was built and completed in 2006. We did the HVAC install for the builder who chose the equipment that he wanted installed in the house and he made a good choice. The government requirements went from 10 SEER to 13 SEER in 2005 so in 2006 this was a new, updated system using dual fuel gas furnaces with heat pumps on the first two floors, they did go with a regular heat pump system on the 3rd floor. The systems also had humidifiers and healthy climate air filters. The original homeowners had a yearly maintenance contract on all their systems starting immediately. We serviced the units twice a year every year, the first floor outdoor unit had a grounded compressor in 2009 that was replaced under warranty. There was not another problem until April 2013 when the 3rd floor system froze up and we found a leak in the evaporator coil. The coil had to be replaced. In January 2015, there was a knocking noise on the same 3rd floor air handler and we found the bearings to be bad in the motor. The motor was replaced at that time. So in the past nine years, one system had a bad compressor on an outdoor unit and one system had two issues with the air hander. This is not an excessive amount of repairs on three systems. Lennox or any manufacturer will back their equipment when there are excessive problems, but we do not know a manufacturer who would consider this to be excessive repairs in nine years. We are a dealer for Lennox and Trane, neither of them would consider this air handler to be a “lemon”. Prior to purchasing the house in April there was an inspection and punch list created on the HVAC system that was performed by another company. We were asked to come out after that in March 2015 and went over the systems again. We checked over the systems and resealed the second floor return box. We had no further issues to report. We were called out by the new homeowners on May 8th and found the 3rd floor system low on Freon. There was a Freon leak, but the homeowner did not want us to do a leak search on the system so we cannot say for sure where the leak was. She advised our tech that she was going to replace the unit rather than spend money on fixing it. Because of the age of the equipment, the fact that it uses R22 rather than the R410 that is now the law, any company would recommend replacing the system over trying to do costly repairs at this time. The question is do you install the 14 SEER base equipment which is now the law or anything up to 25 SEER equipment. The price will go up with the SEER rating from any manufacturer. Acosta is a Lennox dealer and Horne is a Trane dealer. We are a dealer for both manufacturers. Lennox and Trane are both excellent manufacturers who back their products and have a range of equipment that they sell at varying prices.

We are always disappointed when we have a customer who feels that we have let them down, but in this case we are truly not sure what the complaint is about. We originally installed the HVAC system in this house for the builder in 2007. Upon completion of the house, we never heard from the builder or the homeowner until February 2013. They then contacted the gas company, the appliance companies and eventually us because the pilots were burning a yellow color, claiming that it was taking longer to get hot causing them to use more gas. They have a gas furnace, fireplace, water heater, cook top, and grill. We sent a mechanic out on February 7, 2013 to look at the issue and the gas furnace was fine. The fireplace had a dirty ignition which we cleaned. The homeowner had opened the sealed cabinet on the firebox to ignite with the grill lighter, exposing it to air and dust. We cleaned the fireplace and tested ok. We removed and purged the regulator, checked the drip legs for foreign matter and blew out the manifold to check for impurities. All of the gas appliances were opening properly. Our mechanic also called Whirlpool to see if they had any information, and they said it could be minerals in the air or in the gas itself. Our charge for this visit was $150.00 which he did not like. After cleaning and inspecting all of the appliances there was nothing more for us to do. We did advise the homeowner that he might want to install a makeup air, but he was not interested in having to pay to do that. This was over two years ago and we have not heard from the homeowner in those two years. This was not a problem that we caused, we tried to help this homeowner when the gas company and appliance companies would not bother, we cleaned and checked out all of the gas appliances, not sure what else he wants us to do.

Was not pleased with MTB's inability to support their $247 fee (after a ?? discount from $270) for a 5-minute replacement time for a $75 (maximum cost) part. I took the time to visit their office in Charlotte to see if I could get any answers. I've been on MTB's annual service plan since June 2005 for what has been my rental property for the past 4.5 years. I met them at the house during their semi-annual service visit and was told that the run capacitor needed replacing. I was there, so I know how long it took to replace. I had a previous estimate (from MTB) for the same replacement from late December 2010 that stated a cost of $67 ($79 minus the service plan 15% discount). So the initial fee has increased from $79 to $270 for what reason?? I drove to their office to get some answers and spoke to one of their managers. I gave him the bill and asked if he saw anything wrong with it. He responded "No - everything looks correct." I asked him why the prices increased so much over the past 2-3 years (from $79 to $270). He responded "I'm not sure, maybe it's now out of warranty.", which makes no sense to me. I also asked him how a 5-minute installation, while on a schedule service visit, of a $75 (at most) part could possible cost $247. He responded with "Insurance costs, etc...I wouldn't expect you to understand because you're not in the business." I thoroughly understand labor rates, multipliers, overhead, cost of capital, profit fees, etc., so I was looking for some hard numbers to support their escalated fee for this simple task. I wouldn't mind paying for their marked up part cost (minus the 15% discount) plus 15 extra minutes of labor fee (about $100/hr = $25) for a total of around $92 - a difference of $155! I understand that businesses need to make a profit, but back your fees with transparent numbers. The manager's attitude was that he basically didn't care whether I liked the price or not - that's just what they charge. I told him that I would not use them again and said that I would spread the word...he said "Okay...go ahead." The service industry is steadily getting worse; whether it's insurance, lawn service, HVAC, medical, etc. and I'm getting tired of accepting it. I'd like to help raise the standards for consumers and hold these professional service providers accountable for their poor services.

This person came into our office angry and confrontational, only stayed 3 to 5 minutes and left cursing and yelling threats. Had there been a conversation this customer would have learned that in 2010 he only paid $67 for a capacitor replacement because it was replaced under part warranty which we did as a courtesy for a maintenance customer even though the warranty on the part had expired six months earlier. He was quoted $247 to replace his dual run capacitor, which included parts, labor and a one year warranty, he gave his approval to our technician and we did the work.

Hottest day of the summer and our ac failed to cool the house. We called MTB who we have had a service contract for years. The service tech came out in the middle of the night and replaced a part and got ac working. The next afternoon the ac quit working again and we called MTB again. Technician (Hector) was prompt and called to confirm arrival. He arrived around 2:30 pm and left at 4:30 pm. He inspected the unit and its components both inside and outside which took approximately 20 minutes. His recommendation was that I needed "a whole new system" as the unit was 11 years old and the average lifespan is between 15-20 years. He explained that there was water in the pan upstairs which was the result of a clogged condensation line and the unit was low on refrigerant which indicated there were leaks in the system. I informed the Technician that I did not feel "a whole new system" was warranted as this was my first issue with the unit in the stated 11 year period and fixing the unit was preferable to incurring another $3000-5000K per unit (this house currently has 2 units). He seemed reluctant to pursue my stated course of action explaining that recharging the refrigerant is "expensive" and since he believed there were leaks in the system, he would "only be back again to recharge it". I restated my preference for the repair as I also had painters in the house at the time and they were working in very uncomfortable conditions. Again, he reiterated that he believed a new unit was the best course of action and that he could not warranty any future issues. I informed him I have owned several houses over the years and dealt with AC issues before and felt that scraping a unit before trying any repair seemed foolhardy. He relented and went about draining the water out of the pan, installing an EZ trap for drainage and recharging the unit. After this work was completed, he could not re-start the system. I was then told that my thermostat was faulty and a new one was required or the system would not work. At this time, the temperature for the painters in the house was exceeding 80 degrees and I felt I had little choice but to acquiesce on the thermostat. He installed the thermostat, re-started the system and went to total my invoice. I was charged $1154.00 for roughly 2 hours of labor, 3 lbs. of R22, a plastic PVC U-shaped EZ trap, and a Honeywell thermostat for a staggering $279.00 which retails for $49.99 at Lowe's. Finally, when presented with the invoice, the Angie's List coupon which was not deducted from the invoice.

I've been using them for three years now. They are very quick and they answer your calls right away. This is actually the longest we ever had to wait for them to come out and it was the next day. Usually, they've been able to come out on that same night. They keep working until they're done with their list so we've had them come at nine o'clock at night before and they don't charge you extra for that.
Description of Work: The first day it got hot, our AC just completely cut off and we have a digital thermostat but they were just blank so I called MTB Mechanical Inc. and they helped me troubleshoot the thing like to foot the breaker but that was not the problem so they came out the next day. It turned out that there was some switch on our furnace, which was original to the furnace, that has gotten old and cracked off so the system had shut everything down. What they ended up having to do was to replace that switch and they were able to bring it back up.

Arrived when promised and checked unit to see why not working. Gave amount to fix the problem. Problem was fixed and Kevin did some corrections as a courtesy.

During the coldest days in January, we realized we were freezing. Our heat pump had finally died. I called the company who installed the unit and has serviced it for 18 years. To repair it was going to be $1,000, so the decision was made for us. New furnace. They tried to sell us on how much better the new heat pumps are now. I fell for that story last time but not this time. I wanted gas heat and to move the unit from the kitchen closet up into the attic. We got a quote from our old company, who were still pushing electric and were reluctant to move the unit. We called MTB. LT came over promptly, after all we had only the electric strip heat. He reviewed the layout, our requests and current equipment and suggested bring his remodel crew onto the job since it involved moving the existing unit, adding registers/returns and moving other returns. They were great. They started promptly at 8:00am on Thursday. The old unit was out and the new one operating before they left Thursday night. Friday they came out and finished running all new ducts and installed a return in the master bedroom for better air circulation. They cleaned everything up before they left Thursday and Friday. We have been so happy and so warm this miserable cold winter. It is so great to walk under a register and actually feel warm air coming out! We are just now getting into the weather where we will be able to check out the air conditioner but I'm sure it will be great also. We have recommended MTB to several of our neighbors without hesitation.
