I performed a lot of research on new HVAC systems and had 3 companies provide quotes. MTB Mechanical provided technically correct information on HVAC systems and options while the other local ?big-name? companies were just in it for the sale and spent most of their time acting like politicians by simply spending their time talking bad about the other companies. MTB did a very professional job on the equipment installation. They arranged all the inspections and filled out all of the rebate information, some of which I wasn?t aware existed (after rebates the ~$13,000 cost me $9,900). There was one issue with the wrong UV lamp being ordered and installed that did take some time to straighten out but MTB?s professionalism and high level of workmanship easily overshadowed this issue. When my water heater went out a few months later, I did the same level of homework and again had MTB install one without hesitation. This work was also performed with the same high level of quality. FYI: The high efficiency units and replacing the leaky ductwork lowered my December, January, and February heating bills by ~$100 each (the previous year they were from $180 to $250). The other two companies repeatedly told me MTB would not be able to satisfactorily install the modulating IQ Drive system and that I would likely experience many problems. I have yet to have one problem and the installation went great. Now I noticed one of those same companies is playing catch-up by offering it own high- efficiency modulating system.
Description of Work: Removed defective outdoor AC condensing unit and gas furnace located in crawlspace. Installed new 20-SEER Maytag IQ Drive outdoor condensing unit, 97.1% efficient IQ Drive gas furnace and new ductwork in crawl space.

MTB Mechanical came out to do the fall HVAC (gas furnace and humidifier) inspection. Michael Whipple, the technician, went through all the checks and noticed vibration on the blower motor. He thought that the motor might be bogged down with dust/dirt causing inefficiency. He asked us if we wanted him to clean the motor at an additional cost. After pulling the motor and seeing the filth, and realizing we have never had that service done, we agreed. Michael used some solvent and our garden hose and the motor looked like new after he finished. He put it all back together and it seemed to run a little smoother. No way to tell if the dirty motor would have caused problems but I'm glad we had it cleaned. I'm sure it will be more efficient. Also, it may well have prevented failure, or worse a fire. I have used MTB as my HVAC contractor for several years and will continue to ue them in the future. Michael was a very courteous, respectful, and professional technician.

MTB sends me a postcard to remind me that the service is upcoming. They request I call for an appointment. They are always prompt given the window of time of the appt. They are respectful of the customer's property indicated by using shoe protectors, etc. MTB explains their service and answers any and all questions I may have.

We have had a service contract with MTB for several years and have been satisfied with their service. The install went smooth and we haven't had any issues. Its difficult to compare prices across the different companies but in the end we felt it was fair. Happy with the end product.

MTB has been performing preventative maintenance on my systems for several years. During my spring preventative maintenance visit, the technician noticed that the Freon levels were quite low. I knew I had a leak in the system because they always had to add a little Freon at each visit, but it hadn't been a concern. With this significant change, the technician inspected the evaporator coils in the air handler in the attic and found that they were rusting and found a leak. He provided me an estimate of $1300 to replace the coil. Considering it was June, 2009 and R22 Freon was being phased out at the end of the year, this was a difficult decision. I didn?t want to invest $1300 in a dated and dying system so I reached out to David Overcash, a salesman at MTB, for his opinion. He agreed with my concern and we discussed options for replacing the entire unit that uses the new Freon. Dave was able to come up with a system that qualified for a rebate from the manufacturer and one that qualified for the energy tax credit. Both of these saved me thousands. So I elected to go with a brand new system. He also had a good idea of saving my outdoor unit in case my downstairs unit had any issues. The technicians did a great job installing the system. They arrived on time, were professional, and cleaned up after themselves. They had to run a new refrigerant line to the outdoor unit since my old line doesn?t work with the new Freon. In order to make it look it look nice, they hid the line inside a rain gutter. I have been very pleased with the new system and I have noticed it running much less than the older unit so I am sure I am saving money with a more efficient system.

They are very good and I would recommend them to anyone. They have been reliable, all we got to do is to call them and they are here. I am sure their price is an A, nothing is cheap anymore. Our heating unit went out and we had to purchase, last year, two heating units from them so they have done a good job for us. I would continue to use them.

The service technicians are always pleasant and thorough, they cover their shoes so as not to soil the carpets, and they are very courteous and profesional. The office staff is easy to deal with and they make appointments convenient to my schedule. I will continue to use MTB as my go to HVAC contractor.
Description of Work: MTB performs bi-annual checkups on my heating and A/C system, and changes the humidifier filter (under the house) for the heating season. I've renewed the contract with MTB for about 8 years. They have only had one or two modest price increases. A few years ago during a preventive maintenance (PM) visit, the technician spotted a potential problem, fixed it, thus saving me a future service call, and enabling the system to continue running.

As we were the new owners of the home (and assumed the contract), the technician took the time to explain the entire heating system to me including how to clean the furnace filters and how to work the humidity control. MTB called to confirm the day before, called again 30 minutes before they arrived and then still arrived about 10 minutes early. I really appreciated the service.

The consultant who met with us was honest, knowledgeable and made sure we qualified for the energy rebate. There was no pressure and he was very professional. Thier price was significantly less than our other bid (several $1m), for superior equipment (based on our internet serch).
Description of Work: Our upstairs air conditioner/furnace broke down and we knew it would need to be replaced. We had obtained another bid and then contacted MTB Mechanical. MTB was wonderful to work with. They were punctual and professional. The price I was quoted was very reasonable and even with all the extras I added on, Dave was able to work within a current promo for a rebate from the unit's company. He also showed me how I could claim the upgrade as an energy tax credit. This saved us a lot of money. The workman were clean and professional and worked around my crazy schedule. When my husband wanted a way to shut off the outside fresh air vents, the technicians work out a way for it, even though it was not the norm. I love my new unit and will continue to use this company in the future.

My downstairs air handler was approaching 21 years old and I decided to proactively replace that unit before something happened to it. Along with this, we wanted to get gas to the house so we could have gas logs in our fireplace. My gas company requires a major appliance such as a furnace to run the line for free from the street otherwise they charge for it. We also had an issue in our kitchen where the temperatures were cold in the winter and warm in the summer due to a large number of windows. I received estimates from MTB and 3 other Charlotte companies. Between the 4 companies, I decided to go with MTB for several reasons, but the main one was because of trust. My sales person, David Overcash, spent a long time at my home analyzing my current installation and explained the various options that I had along with many types of units. Some of the other companies only spent a brief moment at the house and were just proposing a one for one replacement for my existing unit. David and MTB guaranteed they would solve this problem in the kitchen either through a larger duct or adding another vent. Some of the other companies didn t offer this guarantee. Once the project started, the sales, administrative, and installation staff were very professional and I ended up with a great experience. The installation was very complicated from a coordination perspective because of the coordination between my gas company, the inspection company, and trying to keep heat in my house. MTB did a great job and delivered what they promised. I highly recommend MTB to others.

This is just the most recent event, in a series of suspicious occurrences with this company. Essentially, they came out for a routine, prepaid service call for my a/c, although everything was working fine. They told me the blower motor wasn't working properly, and it couldn't possibly be cooling the home. . When the service person left, my entire home vibrated from supposed worn blower motor. It wasn't doing that prior to the visit. I was told this motor is the same blower motor for the furnace. Of course, I ended up having that replaced. Now since this replacement of the motor, the a/c has been working fine. Now that the weather is changing, I turned on my furnace, and now it doesn't work. I did not renew my service contract with MTB, nor would I recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Have used this company for a few yrs, however, the last three times they have been out, on a service contract, I have had major issues within a few weeks of their "service". The first time, I assumed it was coincidence. I even gave them the benefit of the doubt after the second time. But now, after a third time, I am beginning to wonder how much of a coincidence these problems actually are.

WE HAVE DONE WORK FOR THE MEMBER SINCE JULY 2002. SHE HAS HAD AND RENEWED WITH US A YEARLY MAINTENANCE FOR 5 YEARS ON THREE SYSTEMS IN HER HOME. WE PERFORMED AND COMPLETED 10 INSPECTIONS FOR HER. OUT OF THOSE 10 INSPECTIONS, WE FOUND A PROBLEM IN DEC 2005 WHICH SHE HAD US REPAIR AND THEN A PROBLEM IN MAY 2007 WHICH IS THE INCIDENT THAT WE CAN ONLY ASSUME SHE IS REFERRING TO. ON THE CHECK WE PERFORMED MAY 25, 2007 THE TECH ADVISED THE MEMBER THAT THE DOWNSTAIRS BLOWER MOTOR & WHEEL HAD A VIBRATION. HE ADVISED HER IF THE VIBRATION WORSENED SHE WOULD NEED TO HAVE IT REPLACED. SHE DID HAVE US REPLACE THE MOTOR JULY 6, 2007. SHE WAS CHARGED FOR THIS MOTOR. THESE ARE THE ONLY TWO PROBLEMS WE FOUND OVER THE 10 INSPECTIONS SO I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HER COMMENTS ABOUT THE FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD INCIDENTS. THE ONLY OTHER CHARGES TO THE MEMBER IN THE FIVE YEARS WE DID WORK FOR HER WERE A CHARGE TO REROUTE SOME DRAIN LINES THAT SHE WANTED MOVED DUE TO THE LOCATION. WE ALSO REPLACED ONE SYSTEM FOR HER IN SEPTEMBER 2003. IS IT A COINCIDENCE THAT SHE CHANGED HER ATTITUDE ABOUT OUR WORK WHEN HER BEST FRIEND QUIT IN JANUARY 2007?

MTB is great. Actually, one of their employees got injured at my home and left blood there. They came back to clean it all up and were just so nice about their customer services. I really like them and they're my heating company of choice.

MTB staff is friendly, but technically and mechancially inadequate in their HVAC competency. Seem to have some basic training, but most training is by trial and error on the job at the customer's expense. Each call requires the customer to be home or have a house sitter home in a time span of 3 to 4 hours to allow them to arrive. It seems most problem solving evaluations and installations are visually done with little use of diagnostic tools or checklists to vailidate a thorough competent job rendered during and at completion of required tasks or completed project. So, there is little to no quality control, resulting in perfunctory service and less than quality results.
Description of Work: MTB performed service and warranty work for me. Problem: AVGs: Outside temps mid 20s to low 50s, rooms 57 to 68, thermostat @ 70, furnace on 2 min., off 4 hours, 24 /7 for 8 weeks. MTB redsigned duct, vent, air return system to new gas furnace/HVAC system and then reinstalled the system. After re-installed, MTB's ducts were missing dampers and one of the main flues was crooked causing water to build up and cut off the furnace as soon as it came on. MTB made corrections. The furnace contiued with the same misfunction. MTB contacted again. MTB discovered the condensor trap was on the wrong side of the furnace and the return supply box was too small. MTB corrected it. The furnace continued with the same misfunction. Again, contacted MTB and encouraged them to contact the furnace manufacturer. As a result, they conclude that a flue pipe is too small and the critcal mfg.'s elbow screw is missing. They order parts and tell me they are in. I contact MTB again to come and install parts.

WE DID NOT DESIGN, SIZE OR INSTALL THE SYSTEM THAT IS IN THIS HOME. THE BUILDER USED AN HVAC COMPANY THAT FILED BANKRUPTCY AND COULD NOT COMPLETE THE INSTALLATION. THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST HOUSES THAT THE BUILDER CALLED US IN ON AND AT THAT TIME NEITHER ONE OF US WAS AWARE OF THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEMS THAT WERE INVOLVED WITH THE HVAC INSTALLATION. WE THOUGHT WE WERE GOING OUT TO DO A START UP AND FOUND NUMEROUS ITEMS THAT WERE NOT COMPLETED. THE INSTALLING COMPANY HAD THEIR CREDIT CUT OFF BY SO MANY SUPPLIERS THAT THEY HAD PUT TOGETHER A HODGE PODGE OF MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT TO INSTALL THE JOB. EVERYTHING THAT WE DID HAD TO GO TO THE BUILDER FOR APPROVAL BEFORE WE COULD START THE WORK. THE BUILDER HAD ALREADY PAID ONE COMPANY TO DO THE WORK SO THEY WANTED TO REVIEW EVERY RECOMMENDATION THAT WE SUGGESTED. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER COMPLETING THE WORK THAT THE BUILDER APPROVED FOR US TO DO THEY AGREED TO ALLOW US TO SEND IN A SUPERVISOR TO MAKE AN ASSESSMENT OF THE SYSTEM DESIGN AND MAKE CORRECTIONS. BECAUSE OF THE EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS USED BY THE INSTALLING COMPANY WE DID HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING CERTAIN ITEMS AND HAD TO WAIT FOR CERTAIN PARTS. WE CAN CERTAINLY UNDERSTAND HIS FRUSTRATION BUT HE ALSO NEEDS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THAT WE WERE WORKING FOR THE BUILDER AND HAD TO FOLLOW THEIR PROCEDURES. WE HAVE TRIED TO ADDRESS ALL HIS QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS AND WORK FOR HIM TO GET THE SYSTEM IN PROPER WORKING ORDER.

MTB Mechanical has performed all routine maintenance of our HVAC systems since we moved into our home. They've also come out and assisted when we had cooling problems with the air conditioner. They're very responsive to calls and sent someone out the evening we called with an A/C problem. They diagnosed a problem with the valves and refitted/sealed the valves in a way that saved us several hundred dollars.

MTB does my annual check for both the central air in the spring and the heating in the fall. They do a very good job at a very fair price. I plan to keep this contract for a long period of time. They recently installed a humidifier to my heating system. They ran into some problems because of the limited space available in the crawl space. However, they held to their original estimate and completed the work on the day they scheduled. MTB employees are friendly, respectful, and very knowledgeable. They are my single source for HVAC work.

WHEN TALKING ON THE PHONE WITH A CUSTOMER YOU TRY TO GET SOME IDEA OF WHAT THE PROBLEM IS SO THAT YOU CAN EVALUATE HOW LONG THE CALL WILL TAKE FOR SCHEDULING PURPOSES. IN ACTUALITY YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW LONG THE CALL WILL TAKE UNTIL THE SERVICE TECH ARRIVES AND HAS A CHANCE TO ASSESS THE PROBLEM. SOMETIMES IT IS A MINOR REPAIR AND SOMETIMES IT ENDS UP BEING SOMETHING THAT TAKES MORE TIME THAN ORIGINALLY ANTICIPATED. THIS CAN CAUSE UNAVOIDABLE DELAYS IN YOUR SCHEDULE. WE TRY TO STAY ON TOP OF ANY DELAYS AND NOTIFY THE CUSTOMERS COMING LATER IN THE SCHEDULE OF DELAYS.

I WAS DISAPPOINTED IN THE FACT THAT THE PHONE SERVICE DID NOT MENTION THAT THE LEAK CHECK WOULD BE 75.00. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE MAN CREATIVELY RECTIFIED IT.

WE TRY TO HAVE THE SERVICE ASSISTANTS IN THE OFFICE REVIEW PRICING WITH CUSTOMERS WHILE THEY HAVE THEM ON THE PHONE TAKING THEIR SERVICE CALLS. OFTEN WHEN YOU START TALKING TO CUSTOMERS ABOUT VARIOUS PROBLEMS WITH THEIR SYSTEMS OR ARE TRYING TO WORK OUT TIME TO GET TO SOMEONE'S HOME YOU GET SIDE TRACKED AND DO NOT GET BACK TO GOING OVER PRICING. WE REGRET THAT THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS, BUT WE ALWAYS QUOTE A PRICE AND GET APPROVAL FROM THE CUSTOMER PRIOR TO DOING ANY WORK.

THE FIRST TECH DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO REPAIR, NOT SURE ALL PARTS REPLACED WERE NEEDED, SYSTEM WAS NOT FULLY REPAIRED WHEN WE WERE TOLD IT WAS. I BOUGHT THEIR SERVICE AGREEMENT AND ASKED TO GET OUT OF IT, BUT THEY WOULDN'T LET ME. I HAD TO CALL ANOTHER HEATING COMPANY TO DO THE WORK.
Description of Work: HEATER SYSTEM DIDN'T LIGHT. AFTER THREE SERVICE ATTEMPTS, THE SYSTEM STILL DID NOT OPERATE PROPERLY.

ON OUR FIRST VISIT FOR NO HEAT WE FOUND THE PRESSURE SWITCH STICKING AND RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT. HE PURCHASED A SERVICE AGREEMENT SO HE COULD GET DISCOUNT PRICING ON THE REPAIRS. WE WENT BACK THE NEXT DAY AND REPLACED THE SWITCH AND THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING FINE. TEN DAYS LATER WE WERE OUT TO DO THE MAINTENANCE ON THE HEATING SYSTEM PER OUR SERVICE AGREEMENT. AT THIS TIME WE FOUND THE THERMOCOUPLE ON HIS 2ND FURNACE WAS BURNED IN TWO PLACES AND WE RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THAT PART BUT HE ELECTED NOT TO MAKE THE REPAIR AT THAT TIME. TEN DAYS LATER HE CALLED WITH NO HEAT AND THAT IS WHEN WE FOUND THE GAS VALVE NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHICH WAS CAUSING IT TO PUT OUT TOO MUCH GAS AND BURN THE THERMOCOUPLE. IF WE HAD MADE THE REPAIR WHEN SUGGESTED WE COULD HAVE POSSIBLY FOUND THE PROBLEM AT THAT TIME. WE CAME OUT THE NEXT DAY AND REPLACED THE GAS VALVE AND THERMOCOUPLE. WE DID NOT HEAR FROM HIM AGAIN CONCERNING HEATING PROBLEMS. WE CONTACTED HIM IN MARCH FOR HIS COOLING SERVE AND HE ADVISED US AT THAT TIME THAT HE DID NOT WANT OUR SERVICE AND WANTED ANOTHER COMPANY TO DO HIS WORK. WE REFUNDED HIM HALF THE COST OF HIS SERVICE AGREEMENT SINCE WE HAD COMPLETED THE FIRST SERVICE AND HAD GIVEN HIM A DISCOUNT ON THE WORK THAT WE PERFORMED.
