Our ductwork for the upstairs HVAC was not putting out the airflow that I expected with a 3 ton unit. We had a technician come out and access the ductwork and they determined that it was poorly designed and installed. Dampers had not been installed on several ducts, poorly sealed and we really needed a second return upstairs. They redesigned the ductwork to make it more streamline and efficient, installed two separate boxes, hung the ducts, sealed everything, added a second return upstairs. The customer service ladies at the office were very friendly and accomodating. The technician who came out to do the estimate was very informative and patient with a first time home owner who had lots of questions, even some not related to the proposed work. He seemed very confident that their proposed revisions would make a significant difference. I was told it would be no more than a 4 hour job. The job was scheduled promptly and the team (2 young guys) were prompt. They were not professionally dressed in my opinion (sweatshirt, t shirt and jeans) as compared to the technician who gave the estimate (company shirt with name and logo, pants, etc like you see on the commercials). Upon arrival, one of the workers introduced themselves and asked to be shown the attic. There was minimal conversation about the final plan, what they were going to do or any explanation. I had to ask what they were going to do and it seemed like a "well, we'll probably do this....", which made me kinda nervous as it didn't sound like there was a concrete plan. I was a bit concerned about the workers not having forehand knowledge of my attic. I thought that the "guy who designs the ductwork revision" was going to be there to oversee everything but he wasn't. I checked on them regularly and eventually, one of them loosened up and was pretty chatty, but kept busy. They were clean but made quite a bit of noise. They did a good job and the initial results seem promising. A superviser came out briefly (professionally dressed in company attire) to check on the workers and he was very polite and customer service oriented asking if everything was to my liking and he was kind of a "gopher" for the workers, running back to get some different and more ductwork as they had underestimated supplies. I would say that airflow from the vents at the far end of the house are improved by a 75% increase. The additional return allows our master suite to cool down rapidly. Overall I was pleased but the workers were somewhat standoffish. Then again, I'm not trying to make friends with them - just cool the house. The only thing that would have made this experience exceptional is if there was a more thorough introduction and client communication on the day of the work, reviewing with me the final plan. I'm pretty nosey but generally trusting as I had done my homework and knew that this was a good company. To be fair, the tech told me basically what the redesign would be but he wasn't the one that designed the ductwork, so I never really knew what the final plan was prior to them tearing out the existing ductwork.
Description of Work: added second return and ductwork redesigned and replaced the initial venting boxes resealed and suspended ducts installed dampers 4 hour job estimate was 7 hours estimate was the final invoice

We received a call from this client at 11:47 on February 4th. His complaint was that he had a water leak coming from his water heater located upstairs in his home. We advised him of our $89 service call fee while he was on the phone and advised him that we would quote him the charge to repair the water heater after we checked it out to see what was causing the leak. A tech was dispatched to his home at 12:00. We arrived at his home at 12:38 and checked out the water heater. The tech found a galvanized nipple on the hot side leaking at the thread. The client asked us to weld the hole, you cannot weld galvanized steel. Unfortunately the only fix is to replace the water heater. Our recommendation was to replace the water heater to which he declined. We completed the call at 2:05 and charged him the $89 service call fee that we had quoted prior to coming out to his house. He had a $25 coupon off any “repair” which we honored on the service call fee so he paid our tech $64. We also told him if he used us to replace the water heater that we’d give him his $64 back. We believe we handled the situation appropriately.

The plumber arrived 30 minutes late to a 8AM appointment. He was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. After a quick evaluation, he gave me a quote and performed all the repairs the same day. I felt the price was high for the amount of hours required, but I was willing to pay a premium to be assured the job would be done right. The job was started by another plumbing company who was fired for being late and doing a poor job. MTB did not let me down. He stuck to the quote, cleaned up after himself and I am happy with the work done.

The part was covered under warranty, but they charged me $75 for the first visit and $145 to install it. The end result of the job was fine. In the beginning, there was a little back and forth between MTB and the warranty company. The warranty company felt as if MTB did not really research the problems, but MTB felt that this was the type of problem that they had seen before and the whole piece needed to be replaced. However, the warranty company said that only a part of it needed to be replaced. It was a little pesky because the whole process took too long. I went about 2 weeks with no hot water because the two of them were arguing back and forth. It was annoying in the middle because I just wanted hot water. I wanted them to resolve it quickly. Their customer service was great. When I called them and complained about what was going on, they handled it well. They had the guy call me back. They were very proactive. I get the feeling that if it wasn’t this whole warranty issue, it would have been resolved faster. It was just an annoying factor on my end. I would work with them again in the future.

Thank you for your positive comments about MTB Mechanical. We apologize for the inconvenience you endured while we worked with the manufacturer to obtain the warranty part for your water heater. In hind sight we would have purchased the replacement part for you outright and sought credit from the manufacturer later. I signed up a contract with them and so they were back out, and did their thing quite well. I believe for the two check ups, that’s for the spring and the winter, it was $364 for their services. I have two systems, for the upstairs and downstairs. I actually felt their price was pretty reasonable. They were on time. They kept me informed when they were coming which was very helpful. They were just very clean and courteous. I couldn’t tell that they were here after they were gone. I thought their price was reasonable. I will absolutely use their services again in the future. They’re really good and other people should use them.

Contacted MTB Mechanical to inquire about moving a gas line pipe and dryer vent pipe in our laundry room to fit a new dryer. After being given the runaround and having our time wasted by All About The Pipes, MTB Mechanical immediately responded to our home to give us an estimate due to being on a limited time frame as we're contracted to sell our home within days. Bradley Crisp arrived and explained that they could do the work and wanted to first move the dryer vent to see if the dryer will fit prior to moving the gas pipe/line. Chris spent a great deal of time in our crawl space, measuring, reworking piping, etc. and was able to move the dryer vent pipe. Once the dryer vent pipe was relocated, the dryer fit in the laundry room perfectly. Chris worked from 1100 throughout the afternoon and even transferred the dryer vent location on the dryer unit itself. Needless to say, MTB Mechanical pulled through for us in short order, and did an excellent job. This company will be used again. I highly recommend this company.

I approached the company for a quote on a HVAC unit. The sales rep was very friendly, returned phone calls and e-mails and was very helpful with providing answers to questions. It came down to this company and another company for the purchase and installation. The sales rep advised me the system he recommended was (due to a mistake by his boss) incorrectly quoted to me at a much lower price. I left messages after that conversation and did not receive a return call. I researched the information from the company I ultimately ended up using and and found that the quote they gave me was lower and the HVAC unit was more efficient. So, I went with Acousta. MTB was referred to me by a friend who only had good things to say about them. They were never rude or inappropriate.

The technician was informative and diligent. He explained the problem, what caused the system to fail, some faulty installation work that had occurred when the pumps were initially installed and recommended a better pump, which we had him install. He also cleaned out the other pump and both hoses. He was polite and helpful. The work was done to satisfaction. When we later had an issue with one of our HVACs we called them to do the service and repairs. The tech checked all 3 units thoroughly, and serviced them quickly and effiiciently.

Overall, it went great and taking a shower is a pleasure again. We've had a contract with MTB for over 5 years now. They have already replaced 1 air conditioning unit and 1 heat pump and heat exchanger. We are very happy with their services.
Description of Work: John (from MTB plumbing) checked the water pressure in the house, and raised it from 32 to 65. The pressure gauge is in the crawl space and is hard to reach. On a separate issue, the hot water tank started to leak from the bottom spigot shortly after the water pressure was raised and I believed it directly related to the water pressure change throughout the house. Called John back and he came immediately (that night after I got home from work) and he agreed. He said just to cap the spigot for now. The hot water heater is over 10 years old and will be ready for replacement soon. John (from MTB) will install a tankless water heater when the hot water heater goes. John didn't charge me for the second visit. He wrote up the visit as a consultation for a new hot water heater.

Responded to service request right away. Went over options in detail. Were not "pushy" about selecting an particular option. When they came to do the install, they were very polite and respectful of the house. The work took 2 days so I gave them a key and they came and went as they needed to. They left the house as clean as before they arrived. I wouldn't have even really known they were there except for seeing the new units. They also took care of removing and disposing with the old equipment as well as ensured that all necessary city permits (electrical work) were taken care of. When the city inspector came to review the electrical work, he accidentally turned one of the units off. I realized there was an issue around 7:30 pm and when I called MBT for assistance, they were ready to send someone right over. We were able to resolve the issue over the phone but I was really pleased that they were willing and able to come take care of it that night if needed.

Service was professional. See above for details.
Description of Work: MTB Mechanical came out to check a pinging noise I had heard. They did not find the source, but did clean the coils which visibly reduced the virbration of the compressor. The unit was installed in March of 1995. Over 16 years old! The tech also checked the capacitor (original) and found one side very weak. He also checked out piping in the crawlspace and took pictures to show where there was some damage to the insulation. He gave me a quote on a service plan which we give me 10% off service / parts (which could be applied to this service call). At this service call, I decided to go with the service plan and think about replacing the capacitor ($225). No pressure whatsoever from the technician. Two days later I decided to have the capacitor replaced, but to wait on the repair to the insulation. They came out a day later and replaced the capacitor. Very pleased with the service and the technician's ability to explain the issues in a profession manner and with no pressure. I also like that they had evening / weekend hours at no extra charge.

This is a copy of the thank-you that I sent to MTB: Good afternoon, I recently had a new Lennox furnace/ac unit and a Bradford White hot water heater installed as replacement units for my home on June 7-8. Congrats to the entire team for a superb job! Starting with my initial call to Christy, who went out of her way to help with financing options, and continuing to the installation team making small repairs to the molding at my attic entryway; the performance shown by MTB has been brilliant! My salesman, Greg, was light-years ahead of the 2 competitors that visited (I don't know why I wasted my time now). He was prepared with information and ANSWERS to my questions. He then provided me several options as compared to the standard one=size fits all approach previously seen. This enabled me to get far more value than I originally planned! As for his promises, the unit is hardly audible when it runs and it looks great. If possible, the installation team was even better! Being an avid yard person, I normally have issues with contractors damaging the landscape. Not this time, as they realized the landscaping was important to me and went out of their way to protect it. They worked steadily in the low 90 degree heat until I had cool air at my house before 5:00pm Tuesday. They returned Wednesday to complete the zoning work. There was a little issue with the wheel on their hand-truck getting a blow-out; but they were smiling (and whistling) as they carried the unit up my very steep hill to its final resting spot. Simply; they were prompt, courteous, knowledgeable, and respectful. A winning combination in my book. The county inspector came by earlier today. He said "everything is fine" and that he "just never had any problems with MTB projects". As a customer, that says it all. I do have 2 complaints: 1) The hot water heater is now too hot. On my old unit, the thermostat was about 75% open to achieve what I am now getting at almost the lowest setting. I'm sure this will be reflected in a lower gas bill. 2) The ac unit is too cool. On my old unit, the thermostat would be 65-68 and the house would still not feel as comfortable as it does now with a setting of 77! I can even see the wheel on my electric meter spinning as compared to a blur that was previously seen. I'm sure this too will be reflected in a lower electric bill! Seriously, I am very impressed by the things that I've seen from your company. Please feel free to add me to your list of happy and satisfied customers! I will gladly give my recommendation for your work in the future. And, I look forward to seeing your service team this fall as I prepare to place the furnace into action. Outstanding effort all the way around guys!!! Chris Williams
Description of Work: I had an 11 year old home with all original appliance and equipment. The ac unit was starting to fail last fall and was almost completely dead this spring. Repairs expected to be $2000-$4000. I started looking at replacement options and had it replaced. While the salesman was here, I mentioned the hot water heater. He seized on the opportunity and I had it replaced even though the old unit was still fine. MTB gave a free estimate and provided several financing options. They had the financing agent come to my home for contract signing. They removed the old units and replaced with new equipment. They added a dual zoning feature to make cooling more efficient and a 2nd thermostat controller. They offered to remove the old equipment; but it was donated to a local HVAC school for training usage. They came back for some caulking around the attic molding. They set up the county inspections for me. In short, all I had to do was be at my home to "supervise".

I was highly satisfied and plan to call MTB out again as I have a plumbing need as well.
Description of Work: Both of my A/C units went out the same day (5/21/11)! I called and spoke to Albert (Bert) several times about needing service. He is one of the best customer service reps I have ever talked to! He went above and beyond being of help with a rescheduling problem on my end, as well as helping me to save money by offering a coupon and basically "listening" to me discuss the financial concerns due to the economy. He had a sincere interest in my financial concerns. He works afternoons/evenings so I would advise people call at that time for a pleasant voice. Chuck arrived to repair my unit at 10 PM and took all the time needed to address both my units. He was out in the dark looking at the units and in the extremely hot attic. He did a thorough inspection of my problems. He didn't try to sell me on services that would break again. He repaired the upstairs central air, and the downstairs one should be replaced. He could have done what a well known company (with a jingle) did last summer twice ($600), patched up a defective unit that only lasted a month, but chose to let me know this would be a waste of money as it would break again. Even though I need a new downstairs unit, Chuck understood I could not purchase one yet. He left a little after midnight. He had a long day, but remained pleasant and didn't rush me as I had a lot of questions and concerns.

They did not do the work I thought we had agreed they would do for the price stated. Normally the work they do is turn-key and comprehensive. They billed me and charged a finance charge before the work was completed and inspected, a reflection of our deteriorating "friendship" I believe. (Christy, thanks for your help. I trust MTB did not intend to charge me finance penalties before your work is finished and inspected.) MTB states they've done all that was contracted, but I expected them to be providing me complete services necessary to pass an HVAC inspection. In conclusion the contract did not reflect our understanding. I think they should have advised me if they were not planning to complete all the work needed by code. I hired the "best", not the guys hanging out at KFC. There were a lot of surprises that I felt made MTB a bad faith partner in this work. Trust and "doing the right thing" are important on both sides. I relied on MTB to provide me correct information, to take time to understand my needs, to recommend quality and appropriate hardware and services, to be technical experts, and to have more concern for the success of the final product . I should have hired the other guy. How sad to lose a repeat long-term customer over such issues that are basic values of a well run business.
Description of Work: MTB installed a new complete HVAC system in my remodeled home in phase 1 and this review regards the final phase of that work extending the ductwork, adding the zones, and finalizing the system for inspection.

We want to thank the member for bringing his concerns to our attention. We did a complete system replacement in August 2009, knowing at that time that he was going to start an addition to his home and some remodeling to the existing structure. He contacted us at the beginning of the year and we sent the same Comfort Specialist he had worked with for his replacement. We thought that we were doing the right thing by sending the person who had previously worked with him, but we now know that we should have sent one of our new construction specialists to meet with him. With his addition there were numerous issues to deal with such as moving boots, installing bath fans, gas lines to various appliances and installing a zone system. These items require a lot of back and forth and communication between the customer, MTB and the contractor. We have now sent one of our new construction supervisors out to meet him and they have gone over everything and discussed the manner in which each item needs to be handled and when. We are on the right track now and will be able to complete the member's addition/remodeling project to his satisfaction.

Kitchen and master bathroom remodeling project. New Lennox AC units, gas furnaces, new air cleaners, new re-engineered duct system. The system never corrected the problems it was supposedly designed to fix. I now have a new problem: mold and mildew in the master bedroom where they put in the new duct system. I'm very disappointed with the workmanship and service. I would not hire this company again.
Description of Work: Re-engineering and instllation of HVAC system. This remodeling project was a nightmare. The system has never worked correctly and their service gets a failing grade from me.

Response from MTB Mechanical Inc
We were contracted through Potter Builders to do the HVAC on a remodel job that the builder was doing at the member's home. Our contract and all of our instructions as to what we were to do at the home were given to us by the builder and quoted per their specs, we did not have contact with the member until late in the project. We were contracted to replace two existing systems in the house during a remodeling project through Potter Builders. In the course of the remodeling project, Mrs. Smith had a “falling out” with the builder and we got caught in the middle of their disagreement. At the completion of our work, we had to contact the member for final payment and she had no problems with our work and paid us in full. We have not been contacted by her since July of 2009. The member has not contacted us with any problems or concerns about either of the systems that we installed. This complaint on Angie’s List is the first we have heard of her concerns about her HVAC system. There was never a conversation before or during the installation of the systems about her having existing problems that were suppose to be corrected with our installation. The master suite system was never replaced, the main first & second floor systems were replaced by us. The master suite system ductwork was altered for small changes in the closets and bedroom areas on the first floor only. The only issues we were contacted about were when the zone control was not working properly and we found a relay bad. We replaced the zone board at no charge. The only other problem we were called out for was in 6/2009 her upstairs unit was not working properly and we found her coil to be dirty and her filter was completely stopped up. We cleaned the coil and reminded Mrs. Smith that she needed to replace her filters and recommended maintenance on her system. She was charged for the service call and paid. We went out one other time to make air flow adjustments for her at no charge. The mold and mildew issues come from a backed up floor drain in the mechanical room in the cellar area under the house. There was water collecting in the cellar mechanical room after construction due to a crushed pipe on the property that had nothing to do with our installation. We were informed about the water problem issue from a third party company currently dealing with the member. This company informed the member that this was not an HVAC issue. We are quite confused why the member would write this review about us when her issues begin and end with her building issues, not her HVAC installation.

They were great. They told what they were going to do. They showed on the time. They were professional. I will use them in the future.
Description of Work: MTB Mechanical did fall tune-up on the furnace eight months ago.

MTB didn’t try to sell me a tankless water heater like several other companies (my summertime gas bills are less than $20 [$10/month just to have the meter] so the payback time would take years) MTB did a great job, as expected. MTB has previously replaced my complete downstairs HVAC system and now I always trust that they will perform quality work.
Description of Work: Replace defective water heater with a new AO Smith Energy Star tank-type model.
