Got four estimates on project to enclose deck. Doug Lynch of Exterior Additions took the time to understand what I was describing and came back with the design and specifications that was the best match for what I was looking for. The contract was signed and his workers showed up when promised and completed the job without any delays and in the timeframe promised. I felt confident that all was done correctly with proper permits and inspections. Doug took time to answer any questions, was easy going and great to work with throughout the job. I had been putting off this project for years due to the stories that I had heard from others regarding difficulties and problems dealing with unprofessional contractors. But I can honestly say that this all went well, as planned, and with no surprises or disappointments. If you're looking for a dependable, customer oriented contractor who pays attention to details, then Exterior Additions is the company for you. Because of prior experiences with contractors, we were very leery when choosing a builder for our screen porch. And in spite of all those horror stories you hear, we were determined to find the right one for the job. Doug Lynch, owner of Exterior Additions, was our last interview. After speaking with him, we knew he was the perfect contractor for our project. He listened to our ideas and had suggestions we hadn't even thought about. We liked that he could thoroughly answer any question and genuinely seemed as eager about our porch as we were. Their standard screen porch includes items that other companies consider optional so, therefore, you get more "bang for your buck". After seeing his final design, we couldn't wait for them to finish. The project started on time with Mike and Jason as our carpenters. To say these guys were superb would be an understatement. We couldn't believe their skill and attention to detail. This, as well as pride in their work, was definitely reflected in the final product. Additionally, the subcontractors for painting and electrical were also very good to work with. Top of the line materials were used and we noticed no corner cutting. We couldn't be happier with the porch and the entire experience. From both outside and inside, the Eze-Breeze windows give it more of a sunroom look than that of a screen porch. We appreciated Doug's straight forward attitude and his desire to do an excellent job. He kept us updated and was prompt in getting back with us when we had questions. He and his crew are the epitome of what we think all contractors should aspire. They made what could have been a very stressful situation into a pleasurable experience. We would never hesitate to recommend them and are already thinking of new jobs for them!

The guys from Exterior Additions are rock stars in the world of contractors. When my wife and I decided that we wanted a new screened porch, we interviewed several neighbors who have had theirs built in the last several years. Following those conversations, we ended up speaking with a total of 7 contractors (pretty much every serious screen porch contractor in the Charlotte area). In the end, our decision came down between Exterior Additions and Archadeck. The other five contractors were unorganized, unresponsive, and not nearly as professional as Exterior Additions and Archadeck. Both of these contractors had built porches in our neighborhood that looked the best, but the neighbors who had used Archadeck said they're only complaint was that they disappeared with no contact for about 5 weeks during the construction process. In the end, both prices were similar (Exterior Additions was probably a little cheaper with all of the options added in), and the neighbors who had used them absolutely raved about their experience, so it was a pretty easy decision. Construction began on June 6 (actually ahead of schedule, which we had no problem with!). Just about all of the work was done in less than two weeks. The only thing that took until the beginning of July was the Eze-Breeze screens that we ordered. Those are custom built based on the measurements of the built porch, so it took about two weeks for them to get built and shipped from Florida to Charlotte. Once they arrived Doug's crew had them installed in 2-3 hours. It was well worth the wait and I'd recommend getting Eze Breeze to anyone having a screen porch built. If I had to outline Exterior Additions' strengths I would say that the quality of their work is top notch. They cared about details that I wouldn't ever notice. Also, their crew was professional and respectful - including their subcontractors (the painter and electrician were both excellent). Second, they are excellent communicators. They were in contact with me nearly every day updating me on the status of the project and what to expect next. Whenever I had questions I'd send an email to Doug and he'd respond within 24 hours without fail. They would also call me and give me updates over the phone and spent plenty of time answering the 5000 questions I asked them throughout the project. Last, what separates the good from the great is whenever problems arise and how they get handled. During construction the work crew accidentally drilled into several of the electric lines that ran away from my main electrical panel while affixing the new extended deck to my house. Doug paid to have his electrician find and fix the problem. He ended up replacing several electric lines without question and entirely at his own cost. I have no doubt that lesser contractors would have turned a blind eye and tried to have gotten away without fixing anything (it wasn't obvious at first what had caused the problem) or by fixing the bare minimum. From the outset Doug was clear that if it was something his crew had caused that he'd take full responsibility for making it right. I'm sure that I won't be the last person in my neighborhood to have a screen porch built onto the back of their house. Whenever any of those folks come to me and ask about our experience I would recommend Doug and his folks from Exterior Additions in a heartbeat.

Doug dicussed plans for an addition, an enclosed porch, and gave an estimate. .He also provided suggestions on the work. Work started on the date suggested. The work involved a variety of contractors, including electrical, painting, masonary, roofing, drywall, and custom railing work. Coordination with the EZ-Breeze manufacturer was also required, as the windows and doors were to be custom. Everything went off without a hitch, and ALL contractors were very professional and great work was done by all. 1) Owner Doug was at the site many times, and was accessable fo any questions/suggestions as work progressed. Changes to the original design were made, and these were handled without a problem. 2) Lead carpenters Mike and Jason were suberb, as they did a fantastic job on both the rough structural and finish carpentry work. The storage loft work was pretty intense, as the engineered beams were pretty massive and had to be lifted up 10 feet, but this handled with no drama. 3) Diaz painting handled the interior and exterior painting chores, and the job was so well done I hired them to paint the interior of the house. 4) Amped Electrical handled the electrical work, and again the work was so well done I hired them to do additional work. 5) JR Masonary did the masonry work involving the backing wall for the woodstove, and they did a great job. 6) Union Drywall did some drywall repairs (as some cutting of interior walls was necessary to complete the addition electrical work), again a great job was performed.

They were scheduled for Wednesday June 15, 2011. The lumber arrived promptly at 8:00 as promised and the workmen arrived shortly thereafter. Brian, the foreman, went over the scope of the job with us and explained what they would be doing. Doug showed up by 8:30 with the trailer to remove the old lumber. The job went very quickly. All of the old lumber was removed and trailered off by noon. There crew was careful and courteous. Even to the point of being concerned as to where to park their vehicles in our cul-de-sac. They were finished by 10:00 the next morning. Brian asked me to do a walk through to make sure that I was satisfied. Doug also showed up later that morning to inspect the job. We were extremely pleased with the results. We will certainly call Exterior Additions for our next project.

On the day the work was to start, the work crew arrived exactly on time- 8:00 A.M. on the dot! They started to work on demolishing the old deck, which was gone in two hours. By the end of the first day they had the footings in place and the frame for the deck installed. By the second day, the deck was almost complete, except for the railings and staining the wood. The deck was done by noon of the third day! I was really impressed by not only the speed with which the work was completed, but by the professionalism and expertise exhibited by both Doug and all the men involved in the project. They were very courteous, doing their best to intrude as little as possible on us while they worked. When they were done, they meticulously cleaned up and removed all the debris, including the sawdust- I never saw as much as a screw left behind. The finished product far exceeded our expectations! The original deck was much smaller and closed in- now we have a beautiful front porch that will last for many, many years.

We have an established relationship with them. We would be paying them $27000 for the work. Their cost stands out to us the most. The owner is very hands-on at management. He is very prompt and professional in his responses and demeanor. Their ability to adhere to the time line, quality of the workmanship and accessibility stands out to us the most. The owner is very accessible for questions, comments or concerns which is good. They were top rated on Angie's List last year. They are exceptionally professional and we would highly recommend them.

The entire project went along quickly and smoothly.

In 25 years of using various companies for many, many home remodeling projects I think this was one of the best companies we have ever worked with. They are punctual, professional, efficient, extremely pleasant to work with, and the quality of their work is top notch. This particular project was a little tricky, since they had to combine an existing porch structure with a new structure on an older home. The final product was seamless and the porch is beautiful. The whole project came out WAY better than I anticipated. Too bad Angie's list doesn't offer a rating of A++ because they certainly would deserve it.

Excellent experience! Doug and Mike and Jason are true professionals. They do excellent work and are very honest and straightforward. We have only had the screened porch for a few weeks but we love this addition to our home. And we have found that the Eze-Breeze window/screens are a great way to extend the screen porch 'season'. i would highly recommend Exterior Additions to family and friends and fellow Angie Listers.

Doug Lynch and his crew were all very professional. They were courteous, punctual, responsive and very respectful of our home. The carpenters were here for several weeks and always kept the worksite clean. Doug handled all the carpenters, electricians, masons and painters required for the job. He also had several contacts for the irrigation work we needed. We got quotes from multiple companies, and Exterior Additions was the most reasonable quote from a company I was comfortable with. We were thrilled with this company and have recommended them to many neighbors since. We will use them any time we need additional work done.

We met with several contractors regarding this project, but were impressed with Doug from the start. He had great ideas and really seemed to understand the goal of the addition. His bid was very detailed, on-time and lower than we thought we would have to pay. We had a project going at the same time for an inground pool and Doug coordinated with that company extremely well to make sure both stayed on track. He kept us informed of all work that was taking place and met all of his deadlines. He immediately addressed any concerns we had and constantly went above and beyond. The end result is the envy of the neighborhood. We get tons of compliments on it and we love relaxing on our new deck. It's exactly what we wanted so we can't recommend Doug highly enough.

We received a few estimates for the addition of a screened in porch and open deck to the back of the house. Exterior Additions immediately understood our vision. The work was great quality and the crew is extremely professional. Doug was always quick to respond to any concerns we had and always made adjustments to make sure we were happy. I met with several companies to bid on the work, but no one else was able to make suggestions and describe the work, help me visualize the completed project, and share in my enthusiasm like Doug and Josh did. The job was not nearly as straight forward as a typical screened porch. The roof line was quite complex to tie in to and I didn't want a "shoebox" feel to it so they cut back the existing eve's to raise the ceiling height and were able to create a vaulted ceiling over half of the deck. The job site was always kept clean which was important since I have small children and work at home. Their work surpassed my expectations in every way, and Doug did an excellent job of communicating and managing my expectations. Every person on the Exterior Additions team was extremely professional and an expert craftsman. You simply couldn't ask for a better partner to deliver your project.

The experience working with Doug and his crew was exceptional. Doug's bid was actually a little higher than the other 2 bids I obtained; however, I had a gut feeling that Doug's company was the right one for the job. I was right! Doug quickly addressed the minor concerns I had during construction and worked in a small change to the project after all else was completed. WOW! Fantastic turn-key job, smoothly executed and delivered as promised. No regrets whatsoever. We put our screened porch project out to bid to three contractors selected by reputation from Angie?s List. Exterior Additions came in with the low bid by about a $3K margin, plus they threw in a gabled roof for the same price as a shed roof (gabled looks MUCH better). We dealt primarily with Doug, a consummate professional that gently guided our ideas toward an aesthetically pleasing, functional, maintenance-friendly design. Despite delivery challenges with our hot tub vendor (see our review of ?Fun City?), Exterior Additions flexed to our schedule and came through on-time and on-budget. Mike is a skilled carpenter, and Doug?s painting and electrical subs performed admirably. We now have the best-looking screened porch in our neighborhood, and we couldn?t be happier with the end result. Seriously, if you?re looking for the right people to build the quality porch or deck of your dreams for a reasonable price, look no further than these guys.

Our front Porch railing in the last 10 years has had a tendency to rot either from extensive weather or inferior materials. I have used Doug in the past for a complete Screen Porch inclusive with a 6 person Hot tub built in. The work was incredible and is still a talking point with our guest. I called Doug and told him I was done with the every 2-3 year repairs and wanted a maintenance free option that looked like wood. Doug directed me to the perfect option on line and we talked through the design as I have a very busy schedule and an at home visit was not necessary. We agreed on the design and Doug ordered the materials. The Job was completed this past Monday and looks awesome. We have already drawn comments from our Neighbors on how great it looks. Doug and the Exterior Additions Crew are top notch. We all realize that our economy is a bit slow right now. If you are in need of work and want to keep one of the best contractors I have seen around for a long time give Doug a call he can get it done!!!

We scheduled the job about a month out and they started when they said they would. Everything went according to plan. It was all done to code and inspected by the County. The crew worked hard and was very professional. My wife was home during the job and thought the crew was very nice. This is the most professional and pleasant contactor to work with that I have ever encountered. Everything they did was done the right way to the highest quality possible...and I am not easy to please! Great job Doug and the crew!

Originally I was getting prices on paver installation, landscaping, and a covered patio all from one source. The prices were too high and the covered patio guys did not sound competent. So I split the job up. Doug gave us a competitive price on the roof and the electrical. He did a good job of interfacing with the paver contractor that poured the column foundations. His crew ran into a few issues along the way, but Doug was always very responsive about taking care of them immediately. The end product exceeded our expectations because the craftsmanship was so good and because Doug took care of details that we did not even think to ask for.

I interviewed several contractors for a proposed deck removal and porch addition. I had the pleasure of meeting Doug and Josh at my home to review my plans. They arrived on time and we got right to work measuring and discussing the project. The thing that impressed me about that meeting was how informed he was about deck and porch plans and how he was interested in giving me and my family an addition we would both love and could afford. It was evident from our first meeting that he had a unique passion for his craft and desire to share that passion with his customers. Doug listened to my ideas and respectively offered his own. What follows is list attributes I observed during the 1 ? months Doug and his team were on my property. With the exception of the first point (which to me is the most important quality of all) these are listed in no particular order. INTEGRITY: This is the most important component anyone can have as a person or company. Essentially, if you don?t have integrity, nothing else matters. Not having dealt with contractors very often, I was very wary of the process. From our initial meeting, Doug came off as a sincere, honest working man who cared about saying and doing the right thing. Doug and his team were always punctual and respectful of my time. In our many dealings during this project, Doug and his team came across as true and honest. Doug?s integrity was evident throughout the project, but I was most appreciative of one particular instance where he promptly refunded a portion of our original contract amount after he determined a work item, unrelated to the porch addition, would be better suited to a roofer. An unscrupulous contractor would have slapped a band-aid on the issue and collected their pay ? not Doug. QUALITY: Doug had his team of craftsmen begin the job the day he said he would. I met Tommy and Dan that morning and after a little get to know you chat, I was pleased to discover that Tommy was involved in Scouting as a Cub leader and that both of them were local family men. As the project progressed, I learned that Tommy and Dan cared a great deal about the quality of their work. I repeatedly witnessed their dedication to their craft ? whether it was getting just the right cut, taking time to ensure proper fit, or respectfully listening as I asked my 1000 questions ? it was clear they had a mission to maximize the quality of this project. Thanks to the folks at Exterior Additions, I reap the benefit of that quality each time I step on my porch. ORGANIZATION: Doug and his crew came to the project each day prepared with the proper materials and tools. From the outset, Doug provided a detail quote and work plan with a job schedule and kept me up informed as to the next phase in the project ? what to expect next. He was very good about that. Doug and I talked as often as I called ? which was nearly every day. Doug always took my calls and was ready with an answer or advice. PROFESSIONALISM: Every dealing with any of the folks at Exterior Additions were professional . I could tell from the beginning that I was dealing with folks who cared about treating people the right way. We received Doug?s contract in the mail to sign and were amazed at the detail and time he obviously put into the document. All the folks that worked on the job site were very respectful of my family and the property in general. Each evening there was an effort placed on work site cleanliness. One particular night, Tommy and Dan were working a little later than usual and I told them to just head home without cleaning up ? they politely asked to stay and finish tiding up. This is a direct reflection on what Doug expects and gets from his team. METICULOUS: I am one who pays attention to detail ? notices the little things. It was very reassuring to discover Doug and his team had the same approach to their craft. There are too many examples to include them all here, but one instance stands out. Doug had arranged for the EZ Breeze window system to be delivered in the early afternoon. Just by coincidence, I was home that day. As the electrician and were talking about the new ceiling fan, in walks Doug and Josh carrying a large ground cloth. Doug explained he came by to lay the cloth over the flooring so as to minimize any risk of the newly painted floor getting scuffed or damaged by the guys delivering the EZ Breeze. He came by just for that purpose. KNOWLEDGE: It was very obvious after only having met Doug a few minutes earlier that he as a very keen understanding of his craft. It excites Doug to share his knowledge with his customers ? to help them make good decisions for their project and I was no exception. Doug and all his Exterior Additions team members share a very solid grasp of how to do their job and know the materials they use to do it. Doug was particularly passionate about the EZ Breeze product. We?ve had a few months to enjoy this decision and we do not regret it. Being able to easily enclose my porch has been a blessing at times and I?m sure it will come in even handier when the temps finally begin to drop. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Customer service is something I discovered comes easy to Doug and his folks. As I mentioned above, Doug cares a great deal about doing right by his customers. He takes it personally. He probably won?t say, but I have a feeling I tested him in this area over the course of the project. It is just my nature to be inquisitive and as a result, we would talk several times a week during the project about one thing or another. Most every time it was me calling him, but he ALWAYS took my call with respect and took a genuine interest in my questions. Please understand, I do not advocate everyone calling Doug as much as I did, but I appreciate his patience and ability to put me first.

We interviewed and received quotes from 3 different companies. We were most impressed with Doug and Exterior Additons right from the begining. Doug understood what we were looking for and offered some great suggestions (which we included). The project was to demo our old 2 level deck and build a new 14x20 screened porch. I am very particular and wanted a high quality porch that we could be proud of for many years. Doug and Exterior Addtions exceeded all of our expectations!! They arrived on time and kept the work area very neat and clean. They were very respectful of my property and family. Doug was great about proactively checking in with me during the project and letting me know what would happen next. The project started and finished exactly like Doug said that it would. If you are like me -- hesitant to start a project because you don't know who to call or who to trust to do the job right... Then I would tell you to call Exterior Additions. Exterior Additions showed a great breadth of knowledge of all the ins and outs of a large remodeling project, a good grasp of detail. In addition to their internal staff, they have good sub-contractors and an excellent project management process and an attactive work ethic.- their level of knowledge about building materials was extremely helpful in focusing in on the final result. We met with the owner, Doug Lynch several times, he visited the site several times, and worked hard to produce a very detailed breakdown of the project cost areas. Doug also showed a willingness and understanding of interfacing with outside contractors providing interfacing to existing features of our home (gutting, HVAC, for example). Even though he was not chosen and the project contractor, Doug and his company showed us he has the talent and experience to produce excellent results for his customers.

Doug came out to our house quickly after I contacted him even though we are a little bit outside of their traditional service area. He listened to my ideas and made appropriate suggestions. He found a vinyl railing system that fit our needs and color scheme. He tracked it down even though it had not been released yet! As soon as our door came in to Lowe's and the railing system was in hand, he and his crew were able to come in within a few days. They completed the project in a day, and it looks so much better! We did have one issue with the rail caps because of expansion of the adhesive in the heat, but Doug came out to see what I had issue with and has ordered the replacement parts. Doug is very friendly and professional. He is very good at communication as well always checking in via phone or email to let you know how everything is going. I will definitely work with him and his crew again when we redo our back deck in a couple of years!

We hired Exterior Additions to replace a medium sized back deck. At the first meeting with Doug, he presented great ideas about how the new deck should look, especially regarding the stairs and how to incorporate a large old oak tree into the deck. We liked his ideas and we implemented those in the final design. Due to other projects on the property, we wanted the existing deck removed, and then the new deck rebuilt several weeks later. Doug was happy to accommodate that request for us. The build process was quick and efficient. There were several unexpected issues that arose during the process, but Doug went above and beyond what would be expected to resolve these. We have hired other companies in various specialities who never came close to Doug?s follow-up and attention to our concerns and needs. Nothing in life ever goes perfectly as planned, and if this happens with Doug on the job, I can confidently say that you will be very happy that he is working with you. We have future projects planned and will be calling Doug and Exterior Additions again.

After interviewing several contractors, we hired Exterior Additions to construct a screened porch, deck, and small shed. This project is by far the largest project we?ve ever done, but the most successful in terms of both the finished product and our experience along the way. When interviewing, we asked all of the contractors to answer several questions regarding insurance, sub-contracting, and history in the business. We were happy to hear that Doug does not sub-out his carpentry work; rather, he has ~two crews of carpenters that have been working with him for several years. He sub-contracts his electrical, painting, and roofing to companies that he trusts and has used often. We found his price to be in-line with others, with the exception of Eze Breeze (amazing product), which he prices lower than his competitors. He also has a great website which really demonstrates the breadth and quality of his work. In the design phase, Doug worked with us to both keeps costs in-line with our expectations and gave great design suggestions. When work began, we were happy to see the same two carpenters at our house every day. They were always professional, arrived at the same time, left the work site clean, and patiently answered our questions. We were also impressed with Doug?s ability to schedule sub-contractors such that the work schedule was not delayed. Doug was always easy to get in touch with if needed and his primary concern throughout the project was ensuring that we were happy. We are extremely happy with Doug, his entire crew, and especially the finished product. After this experience, I greatly appreciate Angies List in helping us find a quality company, not just the company that does the most advertising.
