I will first just state that Doug (owner) was extremely professional, punctual, responsive, and knowledgeable throughout the entire process. This was true from the initial consultation I had with him to the end of the project. Prior to the project starting, I met with four different contractors including one large well-known company. Two of the contractors I spoke to including the large one only provided me with a verbal estimate. This to me was a sign that I was in no way going to want to hire company like that. The other two, including Exterior Additions, provided a detailed estimate with descriptions of services and costs. I was very impressed with Doug's approach and was turned off by the fact that the other three estimates I received were clearly overpriced for roughly the same project. Furthermore, Doug, as well as one other contractor, was helpful in the way of suggestions and recommendations on what to do or not do and why. For two of the contractors, I basically had to pull information out of them about the most basic items (e.g. wiring, ceiling, flooring, etc.). As a note above services described in the prior section, you will probably notice that it is very similar to some services provided reported by other reviewers. That is evident of the fact that Doug provided a very detailed estimate (as noted above) along with a detailed listing with the contract itself. The estimated time of completion was four weeks and the job was done on time. There were a couple of small delays due to rain but since the project included the Eze-Breeze windows which are custom made, there was no impact on the completion time. Additionally, I was extremely pleased with all the various contractors that Doug used. This included Ed Italiano of Italiano Brothers Concrete (separate review to be posted), and Stephen Neal of Amp Electrical. Each of the contractors and the direct workers for Exterior Additions were all punctual (even early on some occasions), diligent in their work, and responsive to any of my inquiries. Both Ed, Steve and Brian (main construction supervisor of Exterior Additions) provided me with suggestions based on their expertise. In terms of pricing, I will admit I was initially a bit overwhelmed by the cost however after meeting with the other three contractors, I quickly learned that a) I had way underestimated the cost of the project but more importantly b) the pricing by Exterior Additions was extremely fair especially considering the quality of the products and supplies used. Both Doug and Ed Italiano were superb in their customer service as they would respond to phone calls, e-mails, or texts promptly. And much to my surprise, they both even answered my phone calls when was fully expecting to leave a vm message. I can't say enough about how their responsiveness made the project an enjoyable process instead of what normally ends up being a very frustrating experience (based on a person l know that had a similar project done at the same time by a different contractor). In summary, I highly recommend Exterior Additions. The quality of the work and the professionalism is exceptional. Again I strongly suggest to anyone to go the extra mile and have the Eze-Breeze windows installed. Oh and one last comment. I want to state that my yard was always kept clean and orderly during the four weeks of construction.
Description of Work: A 16' x15' Screened in porch with Eze-Breeze 4-panel sliding window system (I strongly suggest this product as you will not be disappointed) with matching door unit was installed and a new 14' x 10' outside patio was added. Additionally the project included removing the existing standard 10' x 10' concrete patio. Project included a gable roof with side wall tie in. Construct new wall system utilizing 6" Cox PT wall columns. 11" upper PT beam. Painted to match home Vaulted ceiling with 3/8" ply-bead, stain-grade beadboard, painted to customer specified color. Caulking, paint and paint prep on all. Prime and top coat. Porch rail: Install Deckorator Classic tubular spindles, black, with premium PT 2x4 top/bottom chord painted to match home. Overhangs, shingles and standard extruded guttering to match home. Wiring included one fan on one switch, four recessed cans on dimmer, one fixed base floodlight one one switch, two outlets and one cable. Flooring both inside porch and on outside patio was stamped concrete.

Thank you for the awesome feedback. This was very, very cool client. I specifically remember our initial meeting and he inquired about a “rough guess” of cost. Now, to be forthcoming, I hate giving a guess because it will be either high or low and there is bit more to it that makes a guess just a guess. Granted, with about 700+ projects in the area I do have a real good guess but I also like to forgo any initial sticker shock, at least to my face, if possible. I mentioned the roughly estimated cost and I immediately remembered why I don’t like giving an on-site guess. To say he was surprised was an understatement and the initial feedback was less than optimal. I did though promptly follow up via email with a written detailed costing on the project and ultimately he chose to work with us. I was very pleased to read his input in regards to our pricing and process. I preach value which in most cases is not the cheapest nor the most expensive, it is just a quality product for a fair cost. I have the utmost confidence I will be working with this member in the future and will look forward to it. Doug-Owner

My screened porch project actually began in the spring of 2006 with another company, a large well-known franchise specializing in decks and outdoor living spaces. After I agreed to a porch design and signed a contract, I discovered a serious moisture problem in the crawlspace. (I had moved to this home only months before.) Correcting the moisture problem was a major expense, forcing me to reconsider my plans for an outdoor living space. Instead of a screened porch, I asked the contractor to scale back the plans. They built a new deck structure that could later serve as the foundation for the screened porch whenever I was financially able to proceed with the work. I was truly happy with the new deck and after paying off the expenses incurred from the two major projects in 2006, I called the original contractor to come back out and update the estimate. Since years had passed, I expected a higher estimate than the original "balance remaining" after subtracting the cost of the deck, but I was not prepared for the quote I received. In a word I was flabbergasted, and I felt the company didn't really want my business.Over a period of more than a year, I met with several companies to bid on the project, but I didn't feel a rapport with any of the contractors. Realizing I needed help in locating the best contractor, I joined Angie's List and narrowed my search to three highly-rated companies. When I met with Doug, the owner of Exterior Additions, he listened to me, taking the time to understand what I wanted. He then suggested upgrades that would produce a far better addition than the original porch design from 2006, and indeed a better product than any of the competing proposals I obtained, yet at a very reasonable cost. His completed design was exactly what I wanted, but even better than I imagined.Doug provided a comprehensive estimate. His bid was actually a little higher than the only other bid I seriously considered, but I felt confident that Exterior Additions was the right choice. Doug really seemed to share my enthusiasm for the project, and he clearly communicated his ideas for transforming the deck into an outdoor living space that would seem like it had always been part of the house, part of the original design, not an "add on". The vinyl siding and gutters would closely match the materials on the existing structure. Top quality lumber and materials would be used in the construction. The project started and finished on schedule and on budget, with no "surprises" along the way. I couldn't believe how quickly the work was completed. The only real "delay" was waiting for the custom-built Eze-Breeze window units, but this short delay was built into the schedule. The windows were delivered right on time, and installed in just a couple of hours. The project included coordinating activities and schedules with another company I had contracted separately to replace my existing roof with architectural shingles, as well as roofing the screened porch addition. This part of the process could have been difficult, with delays and finger pointing, but the two contractors worked as a team. It all came off flawlessly, like clockwork. Doug is an excellent communicator. He kept us updated throughout the project, and always let us know what to expect next. He promptly responded to my emails. Mike and Jason were our carpenters and we were impressed with their skill, attention to detail, and evident pride in their work. The subcontractor for electrical (Amped Electrical) was also superb; in fact we hired Steve to do some additional work on the side.In conclusion, we couldn't be happier with Doug, his crew, and the completed screened porch. I highly recommend Exterior Additions, and plan to consult them again in the future for my front-porch redo!

This was one of, if not the sweetest woman I have ever worked with. I regret that my replies have to be so filtered not to mention names but I could not imagine someone that knows my client that could not like her. From initial meeting on, she was incredibly nice, great with communication and just an absolute pleasure to work with in every way shape and form. Everything we did was met with accolades and working with her was a great recharge to the praise bank. Mike and Jason did a stellar job and while not a huge porch we all just had allot of fun working on it. I truly look forward to our next project together! Doug-Owner

He was extremely professional, and we can tell that the quality of his work is outstanding simply by talking with him and viewing the photos that he brought with him as well as those on his website. His prices were in line with other quotes that we received from other companies. We have decided not to proceed with our project at this time but hope to have Dough build it for us when we are ready.

I appreciate this members positive feedback and hope we can assist them in the future. Also, just a simple grammatical correction my name is DOUG, this new spelling of DOUGH seems to be happening more often so I wanted to clarify, it is giving me a complex and an aversion to simple carbs. Words can't describe how phenomenal our experience was with Exterior Additions, from the moment the owner, Doug Lynch, visited our home to provide an estimate to the final walkthrough of our finished project. My husband and I have always dreamed about remodeling our deck and expanding our home to include a screened porch, and finally decided to kick off the project earlier this year. After much research and seeking referrals from friends and family, we narrowed our search to several contractors, ranging from renowned independent carpenters, local small businesses, and larger well-known franchises who specialize in decks/porches in the area. We received a total of 7 quotes, and after meeting with Doug and sharing our vision for our outdoor space, it was clear that Exterior Additions was our best option. While many other companies have a "one size fits all" approach to deck and porch additions, Doug and his team create custom additions that look like they are and always have been a part of your home. When I met with Doug I was adamant that I wanted a gorgeous outdoor space that stood out from all the rest. I was armed with photos and ideas from magazines, blogs, and design/architecture websites that have inspired me over the years - he was very receptive to recreating these inspirations, but also forthcoming when he felt that something might not hold up for the long-term. He was quick to provide ideas and solutions that not only met our needs and desires, but that were built to last. Some of our ideas to make our deck "stand out" were fairly unique - oversized drink rail so that we could use the space for social gatherings, faux-coffer vaulted ceiling to add some drama to the room, chic peek-a-boo custom deck railing... even though his team had not built some of these features before, they executed FLAWLESSLY, far exceeding our expectations. Other highlights that make Exterior Additions stand out: Doug has 2 dedicated carpenter teams and ultimate control over all projects. No subcontractors framing and building your addition, no salesmen or middlemen - he is your "go to" person for the full lifecycle of the project, and quickly responds to any questions/calls/emails. Customer service is exemplary. Exterior Additions uses only premium and high quality supplies and products; the lumber far exceeds anything you would find at Lowes or Home Depot, and everything put into your porch/deck is designed to endure years of wear and tear. The price? Given the quality of the supplies/products used, the skill and craftsmanship of the carpenters, the hours dedicated to ensuring that the final product is perfect, it's a steal (and far from the most expensive quote we received). Doug and his team take pride in their work and in delivering a superior product that is not only executed with professionalism and impeccable craftsmanship, but reflects the style and taste of the homeowner. If you're reading this and in search of a company to build an exterior addition on your home, look no further... Doug is your man.

What can you say to such a positive and detailed report other than THANK YOU! This client was truly awesome to work with. I am sure most people that have been in their trade for awhile would agree that it is very easy to get in a rut of the “same old, same old”, while I am blessed to have more variety than most, after 700+ projects they all seem to blend together. To work with a client that was so appreciative and fun to deal with was well out of the norm and quite frankly I will miss working on their project. While it may be redundant, as I have said it dozens of times, our Angie’s list clients are the BEST!

After having attempted interviews with several contractors to do a back porch cover for us, I finally went to Angie's list. I selected Exrerior Additions for an interview/estimate, as they were close to our home and would be convenient.I was blown away by Doug's personality and salesmanship. He answered all of my questions professionally, without ever saying a derogatory comment on anything that had been recommended to me previously. He set my expectations on time lines, and was upfront about any issues that we might come across in the construction process. The sub contractors were all professional, diligent, and respectful of my home and family. This is most important to me. The project was completed quickly/on time. I had very few concerns and those I had were minor and addressed immediately. It also finished on budget, with no additonal charges. I have had tons of compliments on the appearance and the fact that it was done so quickly. Our neighbors who have had similar projects done on their homes are jealous of the speed with which it was completed, and the quality of the workmanship. We WILL use Exterior Additions again, and will recommend them to others.

This project is the third time Doug and his team have worked with us. They are consistent in their professionalism, hard work, responsiveness, and positive attitude. It is always a pleasure to work with them. We asked Doug to create a potting/tool shed on a slope in the back yard. He listened carefully to our wish list, making suggestions and recommendations. One of the main reasons we like working with Doug is because he will tell us when one of our ideas won't work! He will also talk about less expensive alternatives, and why something that costs more is of good value. His design blends perfectly with the other elements in our landscaping, and has everything we asked for: a modified gutter to accomodate our rain barrels, a built in potting bench, swing out windows. He was careful to match the roof shingles to our house, specified paint brands, advised us to paint rather than stain the beadboard ceiling, made certain the doors we chose worked with the dimmensions of the building. Once construction began, Mike and Jason worked steadily and with good humor, patiently answering all our questions. They were attentive to the many details we required, providing expert skills to every aspect of the job. We recently had a question about attaching something to the shake exterior, and Doug responded quickly with directions. We know we can contact him anytime, regardless of how long it's been since the conclusion of a project. They take great pride in their work, with good reason. Without reservation, we would recommend them for your construction needs.

I truly loved this project!! While a small task for us this repeat client was fantastic as always. I was actually back at the site a few weeks ago to do a door adjustment and found myself getting slightly jealous of the entire structure. I may have to add one to my collection!! Mike and Jason did a great job and it was super that this client had worked with us years prior and they were their carpenters then as well. Thank you so much for the great report and I will look forward to working with you in the future! Doug-Owner

Exterior Additions was one of 3 companies we obtained estimates from. All three companies were highly rated on Angies list. Doug came to our house to look at the project and had an estimate to us a day or two later. We got the improession that Doug and his company were very professional and very customer service oriented. After dealing with mediocre contractors in the past we were looking for a company with this focus for our next project. The great thing was that Exterior Additions was very competitive in price as well. Over the next few weeks Doug was very responsive as we obtained the proper approvals and reviewed thedesign. Once the work started the crews were very professional, fast, and did great work. Now that the project is finished we are very happy with how it turned out and the service we received from Exterior Additions. As I told Doug when he came for the final inspection we can be very hard to please and they did a fantastic job!

I found Doug through Angie's List and I interviewed a handful of deck companies before deciding on Exterior Additions. The long list of positive reviews and evident customer satisfaction gave me confidence that I was selecting the right company and business owner for the job. I was not disappointed. In approximately one week, Doug and his crew tore down our old deck and constructed a sturdy, gorgeous new custom deck. The detail and craftsmanship are incredible and certainly surpassed my expectations. Although a couple of minor design changes came up throughout the process (mainly on my end), Doug was adaptable and handled the changes in a professional, courteous manner. His crew was also very professional and polite. They cleaned up after themselves and caused minimal disruption to our life throughout that week. Additionally, Doug is very responsive via phone/e-mail and kept me fully updated throughout the process. At no point did I feel "hung out to dry" or guessing what the next steps would be. It is rare to find a business owner who is so dedicated to his trade and so focused on providing a quality product and customer experience. Doug is one of those owners. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone looking to create a top quality outdoor living space at a great value. I look forward to working with him on future projects.

We had a fantastic experience. Doug is one of the best contractors, if not the best, we have ever used. From the original quote to the end of the project, he communicated with us often and clearly. They started the project on time and there were very few hold-ups. The few times that something didn't happen when we expected it, he always sent an email or called me to explain. When we had any concerns, he would make an effort to come over that day and solve the problem or explain the situation. He didn't tack on any extra expenses along the way as we have had happen many other times. In fact, he refunded several hundred dollars at the end because two things came in under budget. It really was a fantastic experience and I would recommend Doug and Exterior Additions to everyone.

I called Doug and asked if he could come out to fix the minor issues that the inspector noted on report. He told me to send him the report and he would take a look at it. He and I agreed that the issues were very minor and buyer wanted that left hand side railing built. I told him that I didn't want to lose this buyer and he agreed to come out build the left hand side railing and address the minor issues. We were very impressed that he came out to fix the minor issues without charge even though the deck and screened in porch was built several years ago and the warranty was expired. He did charge us a reasonable fee to build the railing. There aren't too many companies that would do what he did and Doug we appreciated all that you did. It did certainly alleviate the stress of getting all other repairs done knowing that we were in good hands!

What a pleasant surprise as I did not even remember this client was an Angie’s List member. We built them a large deck and porch in 2005 and it was inspected and passed all of the cities framing requirements. As stated, the buyer’s home inspector was a little overzealous and “creative” and noted a few items on the deck. Although it was well past the 5 year warranty we provide, I did go back and personally addressed the issues as at the end of the day customer service is our number one priority. I would like to see how many of the “lowest bidders” stand behind their work after such a duration. It is good to always remember you are investing into your home and a little more money spent now will likely pay off many times over in the future. I hope this client loves their new home they are moving to and considers our services again in the future. Doug Lynch-Owner

It was a pleasure working with Doug from start to finish. He was one of the most responsive contractors we have ever worked with, always available by email. His estimate was thorough, and he suggested alternatives to a couple of issues that were bothering us. For example, to do diagonal planking we had to replace the structure underneath so that the joists would be closer together, and he quoted us a very reasonable additional price to accomplish this. The quality of the work product was also excellent. They got touch up paint to address areas on the house that were smudged during installation and clean up was very good. Doug came out to inspect the workmanship and even attended to two very small finishing items himself. We would highly recommend this company and, in fact, have already recommended them to friends.

Exterior Additions delivered in every aspect of the job from their staff to the finished product. They did what they said they would do on time and on budget. I had no worries during the entire time they were on site. They effectively communicated what was going on and what I could expect at each stage of the contsruction. I would not hesitate to use Exterior Additions again. Phenomenal customer service and committment to deliver a quality product from this company!
Description of Work: I met with Exterior Additions regarding replacing my existing deck structure. During our meeting, several suggestions were made by Exterior Additions that would reduce the overall cost, while improving the aesthetics of the deck structure and surrounding pool area. Ultimately, we chose them based on their ideas, quality of work presented in prior jobs, and expertise in the area of deck structures. We were not disappointed! The job consisted of 1) removal of existing deck structure 2) install new footers 3) install new deck structure and lighting 4) coordination of construction with pool contractors

This was a terrific project and I am a very satisfied Exterior Additions customer. Doug listened to my design ideas, made them all happen including good ideas of his own. Construction phase was smooth and fast, his guys are a machine. Payment schedule quite fair as construction progressed. He used subs for the gutter and electrical. Gutter guy was good, electrical just ok. But overall this was a very professional and very well run project and I will be contacting Exterior Additions first in the future.
Description of Work: Design and construct a roof over an existing patio to create and open, outdoor room. Included electrical and roofing.

This small project went as well as the previous larger one. In June, 2009, Doug and his crew built a second story balcony outside the master bedroom which covered the patio below. They also removed windows and installed french doors. A report and photographs were submitted to Angie's List a few months after the completion of this project. Because the balcony deck surface was not (by design) water tight, small amounts of water not controlled by the slope of the deck and gutter occasionally dripped through the ceiling to the patio below. Because the space between the deck and the ceiling was inaccessible, we were unable to determine whether dirt or debris was building up, causing water to dam up and leak through the ceiling. We consulted Doug about modifying the design, and he offered to upgrade part of the ceiling material as well as change the path of the water flowing accross the top of the support columns. He and Mike also modified one of the deck boards so we can access the space between the deck and the ceiling. Because this was a modification of one of his projects, he offered us a discounted rate. This confirms what we already believe, that the pride Doug and his crew take in their work continues long past the end of the project. We are already discussing the details of our next project with Doug, and recommend his company without reservation.
Description of Work: The balcony/deck Exterior Additions previously built in 2009 received an upgrade resulting in improved water flow and maintenance.(Report submitted October, 2009.) We contacted Doug to inquire about redesigning one feature of the ceiling under the balcony and deck he built for us. Doug suggested a modification using new materials which resulted in improved water flow and the ability to access the space between the balcony deck and the ceiling underneath. We are now able to periodically rinse out any accumulated debris from the space which had built up slightly, causing small amounts of water to seep through the ceiling onto the protected space below.

Doug Lynch is a consummate professional. He knows the deck/patio/porch business likely better than anyone in Charlotte. Where others gave us "back of an envelope" estimates, Doug did everything in the most professional manner. He helped us with the design aspects of the project and guided us through the construction and installation step-by-step. He is an excellent communicator, and we could fully depend on his recommendations and commitments. His tradesmen are truly craftsmen, and the quality of their work was exceptional. They started the job on schedule and finished it on schedule, with a minimum of disruption. This was one of the best experiences I've had in home improvement and I've been part of the industry for over 30 years. These guys are great!
Description of Work: Exterior Additions helped us redesign our existing deck and screened-in porch, taking the time to walk us through a number of alternatives and show us countless pictures of previous projects they had completed. They recommended materials and finishes to us and showed us a number of actual samples, assisting us in finalizing our remodel plan. With plans in place, they ripped out our existing deck (preserving the underlying joist system), screened-in porch flooring, railings, screens and steps, most of which were original "first generation" Trex decking, and replaced them with high quality new materials. They also had a removable screen system custom-built for the porch and built new railing and stair systems of high quality materials at the job site.

VERY, VERY, VERY pleased with Doug and his crew. I have to say that my family and I are ecstatic on the work done. Doug came out for a quote, listened to what I wanted and what I was thinking, and gave me an easy itemized quote. From there, it was stress free and didn’t have to worry about anything. Doug kept us up to speed on what was next on the project and time frame it would be done (example, roof going up, screen being installed or painters coming tomorrow). All crew members were highly skilled, courteous and always on time. I can’t say enough about exterior additions on work performed. I can say that I look forward to my next project and I will use them again with no hesitation. I would highly recommend Exterior Additions to anyone.

Doug is the most patient and communicative contractor I've ever worked with or known. I asked a ton of questions because this was a significant project for us. I researched the EZE Breeze and even found a You Tube demo and asked Doug about it and he not only sent me his You Tube demo but a picture of almost exactly what the end product would look like. The 3 other contractors I got quotes from had not mentioned the EZE Breeze. If I didn't have Angie's List and hadn't seen Doug's excellent reports we would not have known about this great product. After hours of research, including reading every comment of the customers and Doug's (how many contractors spend time on responding to their customers?) on Angie's list, seeing his video and picture, and being impressed with his response time, my worries completely disappeared. I thought , "Oh it won't be like this once he starts?" WRONG! He was exactly that way until the end. Also, Doug and his team have this type of screened-in porch down to a science, like a well-oiled machine. Our original plans were to go with brick footing and concrete flooring because it looked nice. His advice was "If you have a budget then why not spend money on something you can use longer in the year?" We LOVED the idea. Pollen was biggest gripe in the screened in porch in our old house. It's going to be truly wonderful not having to wash down the porch almost everyday during pollen season! Doug is also very high on making sure everyone puts their review up and gently reminded me a few times. I have to admit that in the past I have forgotten with others but I wanted to repay Doug by helping his business thrive during this hard economic time. I would highly recommend Doug and his team to ANYONE! Thanks, for the millionth time, Doug!

Thank you so much for the awesome report!! It was truly a pleasure to work with this member and if I have not said it enough I will say it one more time, we are blessed to have the team and the clients we have! Brian and Manny did a great job on the assembly of this project and while I won’t accept that we have it down to a science, I can say that we are very efficient in marrying quality, productivity and profitability into every project. This client was very flexible and open to our input and suggestions. They made a great decision going with the Eze-Breeze product! The versatility and use it adds to a screen room is phenomenal and with 30 years of use behind it this product will give you years of trouble free enjoyment. If anyone is considering a screen room Eze-Breeze is the only direction to go and we are very passionate about the product. We have countless installs in our portfolio and as both a licensed Eze-Breeze dealer and the areas largest (non-franchised) installer our expertise cannot be matched. Certainly do some research on the product and YouTube is a great resource, our video is named Exterior Additions presents Exe-Breeze. I am very proud of our Angie’s list feedback, not so much for the advertising base but more for the feeling of satisfaction knowing that we met the mark. We have three times more reviews than our closest competitor and we have accomplished such by working incredibly hard and giving each and every customer the attention they deserve. I am also a big fan of the occasional follow up reminder as I can appreciate that it is easy to forget sometimes to leave a review in the hustle and bustle of life. Lastly, as cliché as it sounds, I do truly care about both my client’s finished product and their experience with my company. I work on a very simple core base of ethics and will not waiver from them. I pride myself on our honesty, integrity, value and quality. I sincerely thank this customer for their trust in us to work on their home and I hope we can serve them again in the future. Doug Lynch-Owner

Excellent. Our project was on time, within budget, and exceeds expectations. We submitted our plans, created by Bob Porter, to four different companies for quotes. Exterior Additions was an easy choice based on reputation (Angies List), responsiveness, quality and vision. The easy decision was the best decision. This was a stress free and enjoyable project for me because I knew that Doug would take care of any issues that came up. Doug is a clear communicator who does what he says he will do. All the workers were good at what they do and provided corrections as needed. Mike and Jason did much of the work, demolition, framing, decks, ezbreeze and were a delight to have around. The guttering was done at the last of the project, and I noticed that some of the seams did not look as good as I expected. Doug had a look, and within days the gutters were completely redone. Similar experience for the painting. There was some "wash away" due to a heavy rain after the painting so yesterday Doug arranged to have the touch up completed before we closed out. Besides timely corrections, there were acts of generousity during the project. For example, Ron the electrician came back without charge and replaced an outdoor light for us that wasn't here when he did the major electrical work. Doug and Josh replaced my door hardware which wasn't part of the project, did the heavy lifting of putting my outside furniture on the porch, put stepping stones to the stairs, and much more, all with a smile. There are always quirks and turns in any project, but working with a company like Exterior Additons takes the angst out of the process. Everything looks great!

Experience was definitely a positive one. Contacted Doug Lynch, owner of Exterior Additions in late 2010 to provide an estimate. We received several estimates but went with Doug based on reputation, references (I had called several) and ratings from Angies List. Signed with Doug at that time but backed out due to recession, job concerns, etc. However, I couldn't stop thinking about the porch and how much we would use it so we contacted Doug again in August of 2011. Luckily Doug was still available so we signed on again and he was able to start the job in about 2 weeks. Once we signed the contract, everything proceeded smoothly and on time. Doug and crew have the process down to a science. I had put 100% of my trust in Doug from the very beginning and he did not fail to deliver. The materials were delivered on time and construction started right away. The guys who built our porch, Mike and Josh, were excellent. Doug told me that Mike had built over 300 of these and it was evident in the quality work that he did. As an added bonus, Mike & Josh built a cover to hide the water, electric meter, and electrical box. They built it f rom left over materials and it looks great! As part of the porch construction, we had been thinking about a patio to go along with it so soon after porch construction started we contacted a company that Doug recommended. Both Doug and the concrete contractor had good ideas that we never would have thought of on our own as far as size, design, material, etc. The porch and patio combination look great together. The porch itself looks great inside and out and is built solidly with high quality materials. Wasn't too sure about the EZE breeze windows but now I see why they have become so popular. The EZE breeze allow much more air flow than with regular glass windows. The interior is so much nicer than I imagined with a gabled roof and bead board ceiling painted white. After all of the agonizing I did about spending the money on the porch and patio I can say I'm very very glad I did it. What seemed like a lot of money in the beginning now seems like a bargain! We have already received many hours of enjoyment from the porch and deck combo and I'm sure we will receive many more! I recommend highly Exterior Additions.

Thank you so very much for the great report! I was disappointed when this client originally had to cancel the project but I certainly understood, I would much sooner someone be comfortable with the financial commitment then to just strong arm them into a project because they are under contract. I was very excited to hear from them and get the project scheduled. This client was great to work with from start to finish. Decision making was timely, scheduling was easy and everything went like clockwork. Mike did another fantastic job ,and the client is correct, he has exceeded over 300 projects with me in his last 6 years of employment. With repetition comes experience that is virtually impossible to duplicate just by being a good carpenter. We have seen everything and done it all at least once, that “practice” is what yields a streamlined experience for our clients. Also, this was another superb Eze-Breeze project. To any doubters out there, let me have the opportunity to show you the product first hand. It is by far the best innovation in porch construction in the last decade if not longer. We are one of the only two AUTHORIZED distributors in the Charlotte and surrounding areas, the majority of our competition purchases the product from a third party. Being manufacturer backed gives us great pricing, quick service and a plethora of resources from installation to warranty assistance. Again thank you to this stellar client. I hope we have the opportunity to work together in the future! Doug Lynch-Owner

They were fast and incredibly easy to work with. They told us that they wouldn't be able to come out for seven weeks, but at the end of seven weeks they called us first and came out here. They were neat and they cleaned up the mess afterwards. They had to go upstairs and there was no tracking or anything like that. One of their subcontractors parked a truck on the driveway and it leaked a little bit of oil. He offered to have it cleaned up, but my husband cleaned it up. He gave us a $100 discount and charged the subcontractor so they wouldn't be likely to do it again, which I thought was really good. They were excellent listeners who could interpret what we said. If there were any questions they would clear it right away. Their communication was awesome. If we write the owner an e-mail no matter what time of the night he would go to work at five o'clock in the morning and comes back and answer all his e-mails. He is very available. If we have a problem we can just call him up. He says he can do whatever we want him to do. The work included a lot. I will have them again in a heartbeat.

Doug and crew were a pleasure to work with. The entire process went very smoothly from day 1 and we couldn't be more pleased with the end result. Doug was very responsive to all questions, was very patient as we worked through designing our porch, input on design was critical and his commitment to quality was evident throughout. The end result is a new porch and deck that we truly enjoy that exceeds our expectations. Exterior Additions also exceeded our expectations for reliability and the piece of mind we had throughout the process with Doug and team was invaluable. I would definitely recommend to others considering a new porch/deck! Thanks Doug, porch ROCKS!

Thank you so very much for the great feedback. This was a really neat project, nothing incredibly unusual in design or materials but it was in the perfect spot on the house. Upon completion it fit so well that it really made the back of the house a focal point! This customer was great to work with, easy to communicate with and was very understanding and obliging in regards to lumber placement, access and waste removal. As always, Brian and Manny did a great job and the finished product speaks for itself. Thank you again for the report and thank you to all Angie’s list customer’s for continuing to patronize us and keeping us #1! We will be celebrating our 12th year in business in Charlotte this year and our great clients have certainly made time fly! Doug Lynch-Owner

Choosing Exterior Additions to build our porch was clearly one of the best decisions we've made. Doug Lynch and his employees are all wonderful to work with, and their work speaks for itself. We could not be more thrilled with our screened porch. It is exactly what we wanted, but even better than we imagined. We put in a beautiful pool at the same time, but when friends and family come to visit, the porch definitely holds its own. Guessing whether the pool or the porch will provide more enjoyment over the years would be a tough call. Doug is extremely knowledgeable, professional, honest, and likable. He listens carefully, answers questions truthfully, and provides sound advice. His web site says he wants to bring trust and respect back to general contracting, and his work is absolute proof of that. He is accessible, responsive, and easy-going, and made sure we were not just comfortable, but happy at all stages of the construction project. After the porch walls and roof were constructed one day, an off-center design feature that we hadn't noticed in the porch plans began to bother us. We checked the plans, and saw that the feature was indeed part of the design, and we had missed it. This was a significant design element involving the placement of the door and several of the support beams. Most contractors would probably have told us it was too late to change the design, or would at least have charged us extra money for changing it once the walls and roof had already gone up. Not Doug. He responded to our late night email immediately, and then showed up himself first thing in the morning to solve the problem. He worked with us and his team to find a solution that would make us happy, and then simply had his team make the changes. What we thought might become an ugly situation ended up being a positive experience with an even better result than we (or Doug) had expected from the original plans. Every person on Doug's team is a professional, and they are all very good at what they do. They are friendly and respectful, they show up when they say they will, communicate at every step of the process, work quickly and confidently, and clean up after themselves. They all seem to hold themselves to the same high standards that Doug expects. Everything was done with great precision and care, and their work is extremely finished- and professional-looking as a result. We've used our porch every day since its construction, and only wish we hadn't waited so long to build it. It is a beautiful and practical outdoor living space, and is worth every penny we spent on it. If anything "negative" has come out of the experience of working with Exterior Additions, it would be that we just might be addicted to expensive home improvement projects, and we're too spoiled now to work with anyone else! In all seriousness, we will definitely hire Exterior Additions again for future projects.
Description of Work: Exterior Additions built a large screened-in porch behind our house, coordinating with another company building a pool at the same time. The porch has a raised Evergrain deck floor, boards set on the diagonal, with square lattice around the bottom on the outside. It has a gabled roof, metal-edged screen panels, a large sunroof, a screen door with steps down to the pool deck, a ceiling fan, pot lights on a dimmer switch, speakers, multiple wall outlets both inside and outside, a hinged crawl space entry, and bead board ceiling panels. All wood is fully painted and stained to match our house.

We certainly appreciate the fantastic and detailed report! Having been on the list for many years, I still find it ironic that virtually every report has a footnote that I can still elaborate on and hopefully someone, somewhere will get a better of understanding of my philosophy, company and services. This great customer had an interesting situation when it came to the post configuration on the front of the project as the layout was a little unusual and created an off center look. As they mentioned we had drawn it reflecting this “feature” on the plans and they did approve of them. During construction, I received an after hours email of concern and I happen to be available so I contacted the customer and discussed the issue. We set up a site visit the next morning and between myself and my lead carpenter Brian, we came up with a great solution which worked well and again as noted the alterations were at no cost. Now, depending on how many of the 185 + reports we have below this you read, you will see many replies by me doing my absolute best to educate any prospective buyer (or reader) the difference between lowest priced and best value. You will never find both of those traits in one provider of any service as it is impossible to do both. We are typically not the cheapest (nor the most expensive) however I feel we provide an incredible value and we strive to make the construction process as painless as possible. I target building relationships and while I am sure that we have had ample opportunities to charge for changes, unless it is grossly above in beyond or unforeseen I will always stay on budget whenever possible. Lastly, as I must add, this customer was awesome. Let me tell you why; When the post issue arose, they were laid back, accepting of their initial oversight on the plans and approached us like you would your neighbor if you had an issue. I personally cannot say it enough that this is the best approach for any issue in life. While a rarity, we have had customers over the years that approach everything in a condescending, combative tone, a us against them mentality. At the end of the day we are all human, whether my mistake or yours, we are all targeting the same outcome and adding any unnecessary drama just muddies the waters. Again, I sincerely appreciate the respect they gave myself and my men as we will reciprocate our treatment 10 fold every time. Again, super customers and great teamwork yielded a awesome end result. I feel confident we will have the opportunity to work together again soon. Doug Lynch-Owner

We couldn't be more pleased with Doug Lynch and his team (Brian & Josh). From start to finish, it was probably the best experience I've ever had with ANY contractor. He was prompt, professional and 100% catered to our needs. We are incredibly detail-oriented people, and when Doug gave us a quote, it listed out every single detail of what we were getting and how much it costed. We received a few quotes from other companies, which were very ambiguitous and over-priced. We found his prices to be fair, considering the craftsmanship and service we were getting. I had probably a hundred questions for him before, during and after the job was complete which were all answered in careful thought and detail. Doug was in constant communication with us through phone, e-mail and even texted us progress pictures when we were away at the beach. We were amazed at how quickly the job was completed. If Angie's list could let me give an A+, I would! The porch itself is beautiful and is the envy of the neighborhood (I've gotten comments from several friends about them now having "porch envy" haha! We put some furniture and a HD TV out there and are ready to enjoy football season in our new porch....thanks Doug!!!!

Thank you so much for the report and pictures. This was a unique project in that the customer wanted it constructed while they were out of town. Now, just so I don’t get backed in corner on this, typically, I would prefer our customers to be in town during construction as it is a lot easier to breach any issues or questions as they arise vs. after completion. However, this customer had seen our work first hand on another project, seen the products we intended to use and I took the risk. While the whole process went trouble free and they were incredibly pleased the sheer anxiety of their return added many more greys to my collection. I can say this customer had a virtual plethora of initial questions, which by the way, I LOVE! I am not a salesman in anyway, shape or form and I rely solely on my experience, knowledge and reputation. While I feel and have been told I am very personable in comparison to some of my larger, franchised competition’s “sales team” I am no match. What separates us is my desire to educate, answer questions and help a perspective customer make a good decision for their home. The more questions the better! Brian and Manny did another awesome job as always! Lastly, I can appreciate the porch envy. I consider myself a porch connoisseur (what a surprise) and this porch was just downright cool. I honestly thought that I was going to have to leave my assistant Josh there as his infatuation with the TV (mounted over the door on the brick with NO wires showing) was borderline scary. This was a really fun customer and I can only begin to imagine when football season kicks in the use the porch will see. I wish them the best and hopefully we can assist them in the future.
