I found Roy's Automotive on Angie's List when looking for a female-owned auto mechanic in Greensboro. I was thrilled with the customer service, mechanical service, and the pricing was fair and honest. I will definitely be going back and spreading the word!

He's great. Whenever they take your car in for whatever reason, they check everything which is very nice. He's a Vietnam veteran and I like dealing with veterans. I use them all the time. There are times I go in with questions about it's functionality and they offer to check my car at no cost.

I brought my car in for it's oil change and annual inspection. The air conditioning had gone out a couple weeks prior, so I had them look at that as well. I was able to bring the car in just a few minutes after calling and they were able to look at it right away, which was great. They came up to tell me the problem with the air conditioner was simply that it needed to be recharged. That made my day, because this is an older car that I plan on replacing within the next 6 months so I wasn't willing to spend a lot of money on an expensive repair when I'll only be using the air conditioning for another month or two. So they recharged the system and then came to tell me that it still didn't work, and I needed to bring it back another day and leave it with them for a while so they could figure out what was wrong with it. I said fine.. but if it turns out t be something really expensive I'm not going to go through with the repair. In the meantime I called my Dad, who used to own an auto repair shop and used to be a mechanic himself. He told me they could have bypassed the low pressure sensor when doing the diagnostics and figured out there was something other than the low Freon causing problems. So at this point I'm irritated that I've now spent $200 on a recharge when now that Freon might be useless to me. But I'm still planning on bringing it in to figure out what is wrong. I brought it in today and they called me to tell me bad news. The problem is the air compressor and that's going to be over $1,000 to repair. I opted not to repair it because it's not worth it on a car that I plan on replacing soon. So I show up to pick up my car. They hand me a $50 bill for the diagnostic fee. I spoke with the owner, Roy and stated that I felt I should not be charged that $50 considering they misdiagnosed my car and put Freon in it that is now completely useless without a functioning air compressor. I said why didn't you bypass the low pressure sensor when you checked the car? Then you would have known it was the compressor and you wouldn't have recharged the Freon and I wouldn't be out $200. So all I asked for was for them to remove the $50 diagnostic charge. They wouldn't do it. He also lied and said that there is no way to bypass the low pressure sensor. My Dad did this routinely when he diagnosed air conditioners at his shop. So I know it can be done. So now I've thrown away $250 and I still don't have air conditioning in my car. I will not be coming back to this shop and I'm going to tell everyone I know the same. It would have been a simple courtesy to drop that $50 in order to keep me as a customer.

I've been using Roy's for over 9 years. I've always found them to be professional and extremely honest. They've saved me hundreds, maybe thousands, of dollars over the years.

I took my 2009 Honda Fit in for a clicking sound when accelerating/decelerating. I suspected a C/V joint. They started looking into it and suspected a C/V joint as well. Before they started work, they asked that I check with the dealer to make sure that I didn't have warranty coverage, even though they wouldn't make anything if I took it to the dealer for the work!

My warranty ran out 4 months earlier - of course. They then dug deeper and found that the noise was due to a loose C/V joint jam nut. Rather than charge me $400 for a new C/V joint and even more on labor, they called to let me know that they tightened everything up and I was good-to-go for only $90! I'm pretty sure I would have been out a lot more money at many other shops!

I send all my friends to Roy's Automotive - a great locally-owned small business.

My truck had a check engine light and was charged nearly $700 for a sensor. Before I got home the check engine light came back on again. Took my truck to another repair place and spent another $200 on an unrelated part and check engine light was resolved. I don't think Roy's is a bad place but I couldn't afford to drive back (distance too inconvenient) but the experience simply placed a little doubt in my mind on whether I needed to spend $700 in the first place. Customer service was good but don't know if I'll return.

Mr. Roy provided me with an estimate and explained that it was based on the "book" estimate of time required for the task and that his garage only charged for the time actually spent. This is the opposite of what a typical dealership does. The total bill at the end was half of the initial estimate. No one is ever happy to pay out $313 for an unexpected repair. However, I can say that I am thrilled not to have paid out over $600 for the same work. I should also mention that my repair work was fit in quickly and that the staff was pleasant and professional. I will be visiting Roy's Automotive again in September for my annual inspection.

Roy's Automotive Center was near my house and had good ratings on Angie's List. Roy's gave me a ride to and from my house while my vehicle was being worked on and did the job just fine.

Very well. Staff laid out the options for us and accurately conveyed what it would cost depending on what they would find. Showed us the damaged parts afterwards and explained what they found. Gave us advice on what to look for in the future. Prompt, reliable, courteous. Nothing went wrong.
