Exceptional sevice. The service rep was extemely professional and polite. The repair was scheduled and I received a follow-up call within 30 minutes of the technician's arrival, who arrived promptly. The tech explained the the problem in detail and quickly repaired the unit. He was extremely friendly and professional, even removing his shoes when entering my home and playing with my dog. Overall, I rate this company A+.

I have been using them for several years. They are always very polite, come when they say they would come and I never had any complaints about them. Their price is also very fair. They are very professional and you actually get a live person instead of any recording or messages. They are definitely our choice for our heating & A/C service.

A/C stopped working because during a storm a tree fell and damaged the outside condensing unit. Morris-Jenkins Co. came to our house and said we should replace both the furnance and the a/c systems. They were 24 years old. The salesman gave us a choice of three systems - good, better and best. He told us that due to the $1500 gov. rebate on the best unit, it would be cheapest, It was hot in our house, we liked the salesman and we knew nothing about heating and a/c pricing. Also, they could start the next day so we agreed to let them do the job. Also the salesman told us we would save very little or nothing by shopping around. In his words "we (meaning all a/c companies) eat at the same cafe (meaning they pay the same price for units and labor)". Everything went as plannned and they were very professional. In fact, when they finished I filled out their survey giving them a very good grade. Since then I have talked to several a/c people and every one of them told me that we had gotten taken. I estimate we paid approximately $5000 too much. Our insurance company paid us a little over $5000 for the outside unit, so in effect the M/J Co. took this money as additional profit. We did not get the brand of unit the salesman said we would get. He did not give us a copy of the quotes for the three system choices, the specifications or any kind of labor vs. materials cost breakdowns. Not even his business card. The units installed, which is suppose to be the best choice, are rated by the Energyguide at less than 50% of the efficiency range of similar models. My wife recently ask M/J to quote on a different system for her office and they were by for more expensive than the other quotes. She saved at least 30%. I could not find the M/J Co. on Angie's list and the salesman to me that was because the company was charged a lot of money to be on the list. I later found out they are on the list and companies are not charge to be on the list, just to include coupons. He knew they are on the list

It was great. I actually called for the first time on the 4th of july, my regular company wasn't even answering the phone and they came out immediately and without charging me more for it being a weekend or a holiday. My air conditioner was old and I figured it was completely broken but they got it working long enough for me to look into replacing it. I was impressed with the service and everyone I talked to in the office. They set me up for a sales appointment on Monday. I'd been planning on getting a couple of estimates but decided to go with them and not waste my time. They installed my new air conditioner the next day and even got good cooling into our spare room which has always been hot. The whole experience was seemless and I couldn't be happier. I wish I could use them for everything I needed done with my house because it is so rare to find professional and competent people.

Called for service Saturday evening, as our upstairs air conditioner stopped cooling. First available appt on a hot weekend was Monday afternoon, in which the technician showed up promptly after a call letting us know he was on the way. Technician was Dennis Mackins, very nice guy and seemed very honest. Said that we had a leak in the unit and he had to replace 3 1/2 lbs of freon, also recommended cleaning the coils, which we did. He said due to the large leak, (we had to do this same call last year and replace the freon), that he recommended we look at replacing the unit with some of the deals available out there these days, including the tax credit and rebates that Morris Jenkins is currently offering. He also said that the $500 we spent today fixing the unit, would be credited back on a new system if we went with them. I am currently getting quotes for a new unit and will post when we make a decision, but I did want to post this visit, as for the first time in a long time, I didn't feel like the technician was lying to me to drive the price up. I am never happy with the $100 charge to clean coils, as when I have watched them do it in the past, it is simply them spraying some chemical on the coils, then washing it off with water from the hose. Seems very expensive for just that. And the price of R-22 seems crazy. If people were allowed by the government to do it yourself, I am sure this price would come down considerably.
Description of Work: Technician checked several things then came back with a list of items that needed to be performed. Recharge Freon 3 1/2 lbs, roughly $235 Clean Coils, roughly $112 Rewire something in the unit outside, he did for free Recommended changing the capacitors (which we didn't do, since we are planning to get a new system)

Technician took a good bit of time, felt confident in his assessment of units/problems.
Description of Work: They came out to do a tune-up/check on our 2 AC units; checked upstairs and diagnosed need for some kind of switch to be replaced ($350). Replaced that while there. Checked downstairs unit, but found leak in coil, and diagnosed as non-functional. Suggested replacement of part, but had to call next day to give estimate due to supplier hours. Next day gave estimate of $2200 and 2 week wait period for part. We decided to get a 2nd opinion, and another company gave a lower estimate and no wait period.

We were ripped off, plain and simple.
Description of Work: The igniter blew on our upstairs heat unit. The opportunistic sales/tech charged us $385 to replace a $40 part in 45 minutes. Since they don't break out labor and parts on quotes, it is really ease to get scammed. They defend their high cost with phrases like "our technicians are trained" and "we carry a lot of parts" and "there's a lot more cost than just replacing the part" -- no matter what they say, it is a dishonest practice to quote a "bundled" cost of labor + parts. The service industry must be transparent with pricing; parts + labor. That we we can defend ourselves from vultures like Morris Jenkins.

My furnace broke at the very coldest week of the year. I called the company that I use to service the unit and their service person told me "the furnace needs to be replaced" "make sure you have a carbon monoxide detector" "it will probably take several weeks to get another one fully installed". I called Morris Jenkins. They were out that day, told me exactly what was wrong, gave me an estimate for replacement AND sent a team out at 5PM, with an incoming winter storm that evening, and installed the entire unite by 11PM. Yes, it was on the pricey side. But I got an excellent furnace (my power bill is down by over 40% this month) and their customer service was amazing. At 20* - I was cold. They called an extra team in to help me. And when one of the ducts was blowing cold air, they sent another team out immediately (the next day), and corrected it, no question. Absolutely wonderful. Would recommend them to anyone.

They were very pushy. They advertised they arrive within a certain amount of hours; it took them two days to get to me. They couldn't send someone out on a Sunday. I had to go stay in a hotel. They did not live up to their advertising. When they finally showed up the technician did good work. They called a couple of years in a row to service my furnace. They were snobby and pushy so I didn't want to use them. They continued to push. The only reason I did use them is because of the warranty. At this point I will forget the warranty and go with someone else. They are just a big company that don't care.

We called to set up a maintenance contract and MJ sent a tech out the same day to perform the maintenance. He arrived within the stated time. I informed the tech that we were not experiencing any problems with either unit, but wanted to have them regularly serviced. I also told him that when we bought the house 6 months ago, both units were inspected and repaired as needed by the previous owners. First, the tech inspected/serviced the upstairs furnace which is 15 years old and located in the attic (so I did not accompany him). After about an hour he came downstairs and informed me that the unit had 5-6 problems, including a crack in the heat exchanger which was causing carbon monoxide fumes to leak into our home. He suggested unhooking the gas line to the unit, but did not insist. I asked why none of our carbon monoxide detectors (which are monitored by our security system and are in working order) haven't gone off. He said that they were not set at a level to go off and to my knowledge he never inspected the detectors or conducted a carbon monoxide test. He returned with an estimate of $3985 to repair the unit. Because of this high cost to repair, they sent a salesman out later in the evening to discuss the purchase of a new unit. The salesman inspected the unit as well and lectured us on the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning, including a statement that our pets would likely die before our detectors could detect the fumes. He also told us that detectors were set at a high threshold to avoid them going off when you pull your car into the garage. After being scared to death and convinced our furnace had hit the dust (despite the fact that we experienced no problems) we decided to purchase a new one. The next morning, we decided that we were not comfortable with how the events transpired and arranged for a second opinion. A day later another company sent a tech out (chosen by our home warranty company) who reported NO problems with the unit. In fact, there was no evidence that the unit had been taken apart by MJ, which is required to be able to view the heat exchanger. My husband accompanied this tech to the attic, who showed him there were no cracks in the unit (as well as no other problems requiring repair or replacement of the unit). He informed us that the blower motor was grinding a little bit, which is an indication that it could break soon, so we decided to have that part replaced under warranty. We are astonished by the dishonest scare tactics employed by MJ in order to sell a new unit and/or perform unnecessary repairs. MJ did offer to send out a supervisor to re-inspect the unit, which we plan on declining since we have already received a second opinion to our satisfaction and do not trust MJ since there is convincing evidence that they did not even inspect the unit as necessary to discover the alleged cracks in the heat exchanger. Needless to say we will NEVER use them again and would not recommend them to others.

Nothing was done to correct the system, and he instructed me to turn it back on, and "kindly" arranged for an estimator to come over the next day. Well, I woke up the next morning, and low and behold, I had no airflow. The evaporator was frozen again, so I promptly called to get another technician over (at no charge). In all fairness, they refunded me for the service visit the previous day. That technician concluded (again) that my evaporator coil was clogged, and strongly suggested the $1200 cleaning, or better yet, replacing the entire system. At this point I was in a panic about the impending $8,000-$10,000 investment associated with replacing the system. At this point, I signed up for Angie's List, and researched other companies to get a second opinion. I fortunately found McClintock Heating and Air, and their best technician, James, promptly came to my house. It turned out that the evaporator coil was clogged, and guess what, he cleaned it out with his hand, which is something Morris Jenkins never offered or bothered to do. To further highlight their deceptive tactics, when I had a service call earlier in the summer, the technician insisted he couldn't remove the housing, and even went so far as to drill a hole in my housing and inspect the coil with a camera. He showed me the "clog", and insisted the only way to clean it was by paying $1200. It turns out that McClintock only charged me $100, cleaned the coil, inspected my heat exchanger and blower, and concluded my system is fine.
Description of Work: I signed up for the annual maintenance program. Additionally, I had several damaged ducts replaced for $1200. Ultimately, I paid for several service calls. It's a very lengthy story, so I'll try to keep it brief. I called Morris Jenkins to complete my annual maintenance and signed up for their contract in March of 2008. My house is 75 years old, and needless to say, ventilation and insulation could be better. I had the summer service done on my A/C, and was informed that my duct work was faulty and I should strongly consider replacing my system as it is 9 years old. It was also noted that my evaporator coil was partially plugged, and I received a $1200 estimate to clean the coals. Well, I had the duct work done, because it was critical, and held off on the coil cleaning. I had another airflow problem in the summer, and it was attributed to the evaporator coil. In August, I returned from a trip out of the country to an 85-degree house, and absolutely no airflow. The evaporator was completely frozen, so I called a technician. After quickly inspecting the system started harassing me about how it needed to be replaced. He repeatedly asked me "What do you want to do?" I've never felt such pressure, even in a used car dealership. Additionally, I saddled that service call with the winter maintenance on the heating system. The "technician" (salesman) inspected my heat exchanger with a camera internally and concluded that it was corroded and that needed replaced also. Again, the pressure was on, and this time it was exacerbated by threats that my dogs and I would die of carbon monoxide poisoning.

After reading reports on Angie's List and BBB reports, I learned that this is a common scare tactic that this company practices. I am so thankful that I researched this issue and got another company to look at my furnace before I spent the money. I just want to caution other customers to do the same thing. It's really worth it.
Description of Work: This company told me that I needed to replace the heat exchanger in my furnace due to cracks. They told me that if I didn't, I'd be risking my life because of carbon monoxide poisoning. When they did the estimate, the technician even disconnected the gas to the furnace so that I could not use the furnace without having this work done.
