Unfortunately, my a/c problem occurred on the morning of the 4th of July. I didn't expect that I would be able to get anyone to come to fix the problem today. Horne's answering service was polite and advised me that a technician would be calling me shortly. Technician called within one hour (remarkable!). Technician advised me that he would be at my home between 3-4PM unless he could get assistance from another technician in which case he would call me. Technician got my home and cell number to ensure that he could reach me. Don McAndrew, a field service technician, stepped in and helped. He called me to advise me that he would be right over. My A/C was fixed before 11AM! Don was very polite and very helpful, going above and beyond by answering my questions and educating me on preventive measures. Don seemed very competent and practical! :-) Will definitely call Horne in the future!!! A little expensive due to holiday (but understandable).
Description of Work: My A/C unit in the attic was leaking water and dripping onto the carpet in the house. Technician (Don McAndrew) unclogged the drain and instructed me how to keep it from clogging in the future. Also checked freon levels in both a/c units. Added freon to one unit; other unit did not need freon. Educated me on the symptoms to look for in the future if I need freon (e.g., a/c running incessantly, not cooling, leaking water from "trouble" drain). Unit is about 15 yrs. old. Don advised that unit had held up well (most last only 8-10 yrs.). Don advised that leak search probably not necessary due to age of unit. Advised me to call if I experienced trouble though.

I contacted Horne Heating and A/C to perform a diagnostic & repair on my malfunctioning air conditioner on Thursday morning. We subsequently scheduled an appointment for Friday afternoon. I wanted to be sure the diagnosis and repair would occur before the weekend since I would be entertaining guests. When I hadn't heard from the Horne Heating and A/C tech by 2:45 PM Friday, I called and was told that they would not be able to service my A/C unit until Monday. I asked if they could check the unit on Saturday and was told that my only alternatives were to pay double the cost for a Saturday morning emergency call or to wait until Monday. I asked to speak with the General Manager and was told that he would return my call later. My call was never returned.
Description of Work: No work was performed. The technician never called or showed.

Horne was super from the call I made to the office to the tune-up of the unit. They were here on time and the charges were as stated. They called thirty minutes ahead to tell me that the technician was on his way. Since this is a new type of system to us, the technician spent time explaining to us how the various parts of the unit functioned. He even wore shoe covers to protect our floors when he came in to change the filters. He was fantastic and the company deserves another Angie's special award.
Description of Work: They did a complete precision tune-up and cleaning. I also paid for a semi-annual agreement that includes two additional tune-ups at no additional charge.

He was great. He explained everything to me, gave an honest estimate of how long the system will last, how to maintain it to make it last that long, and told me what my options were for fixing the unbalanced system and how much each option would cost. Very nice, on-time, did a great job and was able to communicate on everything.

19 hours later I had to call again, and it took an hour for the call to be returned. Gene told me that he hadn't returned my call because I didn't have a service contract with Horne, so I wasn't a priority. Then he said that he had to work on a system in my area, so he could swing by after, and that he wouldn't be able to get to my house until at least 5:00 pm. After returning home at 4:45 I had a message from Gene at 4:20 stating that he was finished with his other appt and that he would come to my house, but only if I called within 10 mins, otherwise I would lose my place. I called him to let him know that I was back and that he had previously said at least 5:00 pm. He never returned the call. I ended up calling Ross & Witmer who were very responsive and fixed the broken motor.
Description of Work: Air conditioning maintenance; Put 3 lbs of coolant to system. Subsequent to this, had an issue with the system making a lot of noise, and eventually it stopped working. Called Horne on a Sat afternoon to request help. Overall experience with Horne was poor. For the original request, my appointment was not logged into the schedule (while I was making the appt, the computer went down) so I waited for a half day before finding out no one was coming. It took several days for Horne to fit me in, even though the mistake was theirs. When I made the appt, I was specific in my description, that I had had a problem with the coil on the other unit and leakage, so thought that I was having the same issue with this unit. When the technician arrived, he did not do a leak check instead replacing coolant and telling me to book a new appt for a leak search because he was too busy that day. When the system broke this weekend, I called and was told that someone would call me within the hour.

After the initial call requesting service, the service man on call responded within 15 minutes. He was very kind and within 20 minutes I had someone at my door. This was on a Saturday and over a holiday. Wow! Finally a company that provides great customer service. The gentleman was knowledgeable, pleasant and extremely helpful. I really recommend this company.
Description of Work: Checked systems, recharged with refrigerant and suggested probable cause of leak. This was an emergency call.

Ryan was GREAT! He explained everything he did & even cleaned up the area around my outside unit, so it would perform more efficiently. When I called other companies for quotes on getting the evaporator coil cleaned, one gave a base price for a tune up & then an additional price to clean the coils total around $180.00 & another company gave base price & then said they would have to see the unit before they could give an estimate.

I spoke to the gentleman on call on Saturday night, after a dog got under the house and damaged the duct work. He assured me that I need not call another company, as someone would be able to come out Monday, even if after hours. Someone came out to inspect the damage Monday afternoon. He told me it would be the next morning before I would have an estimate. Late Tuesday morning, it took my calling and pestering to get the estimate, which ended up being for replacement of all of the branch lines. I questioned the necessity of the proposed scope of work, as I had since inspected the damage and did not think all of the lines needed replacement. I was told the owner and inspector would need to be consulted, and I would hear from someone that afternoon, but that call did not come until Wednesday morning. In the meantime, I was compelled to hire someone else. Very disappointed, especially considering the high ratings on this website.

After getting several quotes from highly rated HVAC contractors on Angie's List, I decided to go with Horne HVAC. I dealt with Jon Horne who was extremely professional & very helpful throughout the entire installation process. The replacement system & new ductwork was installed just as Jon described & without any trouble. Jon Horne was very conscious of pointing out pros & cons of various systems & the best location of the exterior coil. Having just finished a very long one year remodel on my entire house, dealing with Jon & his team at Horne HVAC was one of the best contractor experiences I have had.
Description of Work: I live in a house built in 1991 that needed all new duct work & a completely new A/C & heating system. Horne Heating & A/C replaced both the interior & exterior cooling coils & installed a high efficiency Trane furnace & A/C. They removed the existing ductwork & HVAC from a very small attic. They also added a new register in a closet & improved air flow in my 2 story house with the help of a zone system that has worked quite well since installation. They also removed the exterior A/C coil & moved the new exterior coil location to the side of my house which was a much better location.

We had a great experience from beginning to end. Making an appointment was very easy and Melvin came out the next day. He remembered our house from a couple of year's earlier when we had invited Horne to bid on another project. He originally suggested that we replace the entire system (both inside and outside) to improve the efficiency (out outside system was old) but had no problem when we elected to replace just the air handler. The work was scheduled and completed just a couple of days later (fast!). That evening we noticed an issue with the system (it wasn't blowing air) and after we called in the morning, a technician was sent out later that day to diagnose the problem. A circuit board had failed, but a replacement was installed the following day. Overall, we are very satisfied with our new system and the service we received and would not hesitate to call them again.

They went above and beyond typical HVAC companies, so I highly recommend them. Further, the charge for the service was very reasonable.

The experience was excellent. They worked with me and my crazy work schedule. They were polite. They listened to my problems with the old furnace and took my complaints seriously (This was after three other companies told me nothing was wrong). After 30 minutes of the new unit being installed, I was warm and comfortable in my house... The first time all season!!. They were great.
Description of Work: They evaluated the problem with my old furnace (it was not heating the downstairs and it was leaking carbon monoxide). They replaced my furnace and had a subcontractor analyze my duct work for any obstruction.

I rate 'C' for responsiveness due to the prodding I had to do involving the research of the problem. I feel as though if I had not pushed, he would have left with no results/answers, and I would have had to call again when it stopped working.
Description of Work: The blower was not working on my furnace. He came out for a service call ($70.00 flat fee)...the blower did in fact come on, and since it did, there was nothing to check. I had to urge him to check the system anyway, because the blower would, in fact, turn off again. Turns out to be a bad motor/capacitor. I had to push for the research, which I thought should have been offered, seeing how I paid for the service call.

My overall experience was very good. I'm very glad I belong to Angie's List and could name drop them. The original price I was quoted dropped almost in half once I told them how I got their number. I've used this company before so maybe they were just giving me the return customer discount. Anyway, I do have to say they were very easy to do business with, very polite, responsive and punctual. Their pricing is a little strange but as long as you belong to Angie's List, you should be OK.

The tech did fast work, and showed me how to relight the pilot light, and how to check to see if it was out. He was in and out in no time, and we have heat again! Very nice guy, too.
Description of Work: Our furnace wasn't heating, it was just blowing cold air. I called on Friday, and they were able to come the same day. The pilot light was out, and we needed a new thermocouple.

Don McAndrews spent a lot of time checking out my 15-year old gas furnace, pointing out potential areas of concern without being an alarmist, and making minor recommendations with zero sales pressure. I had to press him for some basic information regarding eventual furnace replacement. He also gave me tips regarding winter care for the a/c unit outside. I have used this company for years. They have always been very responsive to my needs. I was very pleased with today's service visit.
Description of Work: Cost was for annual maintenance contract. Winter visit included gas furnace inspection and maintenance, filter change, etc.

COMPANY WAS VERY FLEXIBLE IN SETTING TIME FOR SERVICE CALL AS MY HUSBAND WAS IN THE VAH IN SALISBURY LAST WEEK. TECHNICIAN CAME AT AGREED TIME, MOVED SOME ITEMS IN THE ATTIC THAT BLOCKED ACCESS TO THE FURNACE AND THEN REPLACED THEM WHEN HE WAS FINISHED. HE WAS PLEASANT AND WORKED DILIGENTLY.

THE CUSTOMER SERVICE STAFF WERE INATTENTIVE AND DIFFICULT TO GET CLEAR ANSWERS FROM REGARDING APPOINTMENT TIMES. GENE WELLS, THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN, WAS ON-TIME, EFFICIENT AND COURTEOUS. HE TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN THE ISSUES WITH OUR EQUIPMENT AND WHAT REPAIRS WERE NECESSARY. HE FOUND A NUMBER OF PROBLEMS WITH OUR SYSTEM THAT HAD GONE UNADDRESSED FOR YEARS IN SPITE OF REGULAR SERVICE CALLS (FROM OTHER VENDORS). GENE TOOK THE TIME TO EXPLAIN WHAT WE COULD DO TO HELP PREVENT SOME OF THE ISSUES AND WHAT WE COULD DO TO MAINTAIN OUR SYSTEM IN A BETTER MANNER. I REALLY FELT LIKE I GOT ALOT OF VALUE FROM THE VISIT FROM GENE AND WILL BE ASKING FOR HIM BY NAME ON FUTURE SERVICE CALLS.
