Horne Heating and Air Conditioning

They came out on Saturday at the time they said they would. It was a $110.00 weekend rate. They were there for 2.5 hours we felt the price was reasonable. We called on Thursday and they came on Saturday because we were closing on the house we had to have the work completed.

Jason, the technician, did what I initially thought was a thorough exam of our 18 year old furnace. He said he found 2 cracks in the heat exchanger that could allow carbon monoxide to leak into our home. Jason took digital pictures of the cracks in the heat exchanger and was able to download and print a picture in his truck to show me the cracks. He then asked me to turn off my furnace and sign a waiver acknowledging the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning if I use my furnace. He recommended a new furnace since my current one is 18 years old. Turns out I got a second opinion 4 days later and Jason was totally wrong. The furnace is in good working condition after all; a CO2 reading taken in the duct work was nil. It just looks like there are a couple of cracks in the heat exchanger, but neither crack goes all the way through. The heat exchanger could have come from the factory the way it looks now. To think I could have spent thousands for a new unit when it wasn't necessary!

They are a great company! I will continue to use them, and in fact they are scheduled to come out in a few weeks for another inspection for the pre-winter inspection.

I am very happy with Horne's service. We continued to have trouble with our upstairs unit after Horne fixed it. Each time we called, Horne sent someone out quickly. They did not charge us anything additional for the follow-up service. Finally, Ben (the best person we have had from Horne by far!) informed us that he believed the issue was electrical and that we would need an electrician to come out. So instead of charging us a few hundred dollars for a part that wouldn't have even fixed the problem, we had the electrician fix the circuit for under $100. We appreciate the professionalism, timeliness and honesty that we have received from Horne and recommend them to anyone!

I am very impressed with Horne Heating and Air Conditioning. I called them at 8:00 AM this morning because my AC was not working. They had a technician at my house by 10:00 AM and he was able to immediately identify and fix the problem. In addition, I was able to have my heater serviced at the same time. The technician, Trey, was knowledgeable, polite and professional. I would highly recommend Horne HVAC and plan to use them for all my future heating and air conditioning needs.

My A/C wasn't cooling. It's an old unit so I expected to be told that it had to be replaced. The Horne service rep showed up when expected and inspected the unit. He told me that the coils simply needed to be cleaned. He did this, balanced the freon and the unit started cooling. He noted that the unit will need to be replaced soon, but didn't put any sales pitch on me at all.

I had a busted water heater and the previous heating and air company wouldn't install the water heater until my exhaust pipes were brought up to code w/a better connection. The first company said since they couldn't install the gas water they would be happy to install an electric. All I needed to do was pay an additional $500 and for me to call an electrician to have my electrical box redone for the electric water heater. That's when I called Horne Heating and Air. They sent a representative out right away to access my problem. They did a wonderful job. To prevent my house from flooding again, they installed an expansion tank. I also had an overflow tray installed and they made a hole through the brick for the overflow drain pipes. Last but not least, a new exhaust pipe that vents through the roof was replaced. The technicians got up the little bit of water that was still remaining in the utility room.

I bought my very expensive Train system from Horne H/AC in 1999. On the hottest day of the year, August 2007, my a/c broke and when I called for service, they were rude and everyone kept asking if I had a service agreement. I am sure they must have been busy, but they could not tell me whether they could even come out that day and just kept me hanging for several hours in the morning with no word. They gave me an estimate of from $300 to $600. I gave up and called another company. I am sure Hornes does good work, but just make sure you have their service agreement or you don't get the time of day!

The technician was very professional and accommodating. He informed me of my options up front, making sure I knew of the surcharge for weekend after-hours service. He got to my house quickly and let me know the problem was low coolant, as I had thought. Once I decided to have him recharge the system, that was done quickly and at a reasonable cost.

We received quotes from 4 companies. Their quote was in line with three of the quotes, with the fourth being very uncompetitive. While their quote was in line with the three other companies, the professionalism by which the quote was handled was probably the deciding factor. Adrian the sales rep took time to go over the features of the Trane system with my wife who was watching our three month old baby. He was prompt as well as the team that did the installation was timely. Adrain made my wife comfortable with the experience of the team that was doing the installation and he later came back and went through the features of the new thermostat. All in all, I can understand the high marks that Horne and his team receives.

They have been very responsive. They came promptly to fix the unit, on a holiday none the less. They are great.

They were great. The air went out the night before we left on vacation. I wasn't able to call until Friday afternoon. They were able to come out that night, coordinate with my neighbor to get in and do the diagnostic. It was a bad part. They must have had it on their truck. It was an easy repair and they were done in just over a half an hour. They left a bill and I mailed in the payment the following week, using their $35 coupon. It was a great relief to come home from vacation to a cool house. All in all, a very good experience.

The cleaning went as well as usual but the advice and estimates were not consistent with my past experience with Horne. First, they wanted me to a use an expensive filter that would have choked and damaged the system (or at least that's what I've been told in the past). Second, they gave an estimate on adding a cut-off valve but didn't provide an estimate on adding a secondary overflow pipe to the pan. When I called to ask them to come back to add that overflow pipe, they informed me I would be charged $76 to provide the estimate in addition to the actual work. That just rubbed me the wrong way; they were just here and they didn't provide the estimate. I decided to go with someone else to get the rest of the work done. That other contractor told me that the shut-off valve is already on the system to begin with.

Horne was great about getting someone to my house to diagnose the problem. Once they id'ed the problem, they ordered parts and got them in stock very quickly. The parts were accidentally delivered to the wrong location. The technician was on his way to another job when he heard that the parts were found and delivered to my house. He turned around and drove back to my house to get my system up and running. Great experience.

I called Horne A/C (which I got off Angie's List) when our ac was obviously not running well. They called back within 12 hours and where at my house when they said they would be (even early).Brad was very nice and did the job quickly (55 min) and efficiently. Brad also didn't seem to mind all my questions. I will use them again!

He seemed to know what he was doing. He fixed it and the house got hot.

They came right out the next day but I wish they could of come the day I called. They were very good at serving me. He was able to find the problem and fix it.

Ryan was extremely helpful and informative in assessing and describing the problem to the homeowner.

They were fast and courteous, and took the time to explain what was happening with the heating unit. I would HIGHLY recommend them as technicians you can count on. It was a great experience, I would most definitely do business with them again.

We got an amazing amount of personal attention from the head of the company himself, who explained the problems with our HVAC system to us in a wonderfully clear way, and proposed the best, most comprehensive solution of all companies we consulted. They even explained their reasoning for us in writing - who else does that? They were wonderfully pleasant and responsive.

Don found that my 15 year old gas furnace is on it's last legs. He explained to me what was wrong and told me to plan on replacing it sooner rather than later. He does a good job of explaining without talking down to you. He has been to my house before and he is the reason I continue to use Horne. However, I asked him for an estimate on a furnace replacement, and he quickly provided one for the most expensive system that Trane makes, no breakdown of components, no load calculation, no discussion of replacing duct work (and how good is a 93% efficient furnace if the ducts need replacing?) So, I suspect that our multi-year relationship is headed for a break-up, because I am not sure they are going to be my choice for a replacement system (although I intend to call them back to the house to re-quote the job). I felt a teensy bit like he was trying to take advantage of our working relationship by bulldozing me over with an expensive system, however, and that irked me.

They set appointment for 1/13. He stated if he could not make it on 1/13 I would receive a call and service would be performed on 1/15. It is 1/18 and I still have not received a call. Very unprofessional. This is my first very bad experience with an Angie's List customer with an A rating. Very disappointing.

Very prompt and polite. Good education and explanations. Scheduled replacement ASAP as we had NO heat!

Poorly. Next day, after the "leak search", A/C still didn't work. They came back (for an extra fee) and added more freon. Even though they didn't add enough the day before, they claimed it was because of the leak, even though we never did fix the leak, and never did need more freon for the rest of the summer. They charged us for both visits, and were not pleasant regarding our disappointment with service.

We were told it would take at least 1 1/2 to 2 days to complete the job. The workers were on time. They were polite and cleaned up after themselves.
