Really bad experience with the company. I would not recommend depending on these people to honor their word. I called and set up a service call to get the indoor part of my A/C coils cleaned. I explained I had a quote for a new unit, but wanted to try and clean the existing unit first. I also told them I would have to take off work from 9am to 12:30 pm, so that I was present. 12:30 comes and goes, they are a no show, no call. I call am get the update that previous appt. is running long and it will be a half hour. Again, no show or call. I call back and let them know I have to go to work or reschedule. They tell me, that they will be there shortly since they are in my neighborhood. I tell them that I am not going to give them a good review on Angie's List and come to find out that the coupon on here isn't honored by them anyways, because of some technical wording she used??? So I lost a day of work and still don't have enough cool air. What a pain to have to work with people that do not stand by their word and communicate when something scheduled needs moved out.

Mr. Harry James from Horne Heating and Air Conditioning arrived on time, in addition his office called to say he would be at my home in 20 minutes. He explained the work he did on the heat pump and that he had reviewed the records of previous service done on the unit. He explained all the items on the bill and answered my questions about the age of the heat pump and possible future repairs or replacements to expect. Mr. James was polite and professional. We will continue to use Horne for our heating and air conditioning service and the Angie's List coupon was very helpful when it came time to write out the check!
Description of Work: Heat pump was checked and cleaned. New air filter was put into the inside vent. Coolant was needed and added.

I came home from work to find my upstairs a/c was off and it was 84 degrees. I called Horne and thye said a technician would be out that evening. They called back 15 minutes later to say the tech was on his way. He came out and told me the capacitor in th eunit was dead. I had him replace it. it only took a few minutes and everything was working. The only thing I wasn't pleased with was the price. At that point though I would have paid anything to get the a/c back on!

Overall a few bumps in the road but they really care about your business and will make it competitive and RIGHT! Initial visit was coil cleaning and evaluation of two A/C units. Subsequent visit included duct work and replacement of one A/C unit. Took a week between the two events because their office staff did not give the message to sales person to call me. Once i called back, however, Jon Horne was very prompt and diligent about coming to give me the follow up quote. Jon was also extremely creative and really put together a package that met my needs and was more aggressively priced than other quotes i got. The team that did the work were professional and did a clean job. The electrician had to come back twice after the installers/elec left because the unit kept shutting off. He did return after each call and finally got the unit working correctly. I've been cool since!

Spent time explaining the condition of our older AC unit and had good suggestions about what we might want in the way of replacement equipment and peripherals when are ready to replace our aging AC and furnace.

They were fabulous. They came out the same day we called. It was winter and the weather was really cold. The part we needed had to be ordered. They got the heat working for us temporarily. During that time, the heat went out again. They came again and got it working for us. I called and I spoke with one of the managers and he even offered to bring space heaters out for us. They have extraordinary customer service. Both of the technicians were very friendly and professional. They had a good appearance as well. They worked very quickly and did a great job cleaning up. They made this tough situation into a good experience. We are very happy that we found them. All of their service people are well trained and actually have to pass an exam. They did good work and we had great results. We are going to need the unit replaced, and we will definitely use them for all future work. I am extremely impressed and pleased with them.

I am pleased with how the entire experience went. I am glad that I stopped the work and voiced my concerns to Don because I think the 2nd and 3rd servicemen might have installed a part that didn't need to be replaced and would not have resolved the problem. But to their credit, each took the time to explain to me what he was doing and that it might not fix the problem. I went with Horne years ago for my maintenance agreement because of their record on AngiesList. Except for purchasing a new air conditioner from them several years ago, our only interactions have been my tune-ups twice/year. This was my first major repair issue and I am so glad I had an agreement the terms of which they honored. I especially appreciate their listening to my concerns and consulting with each other instead of letting their egos get in the way of delivering good service. I like having the same person performing my maintenance each time, although all of the Horne employees I've met have impressed me as being trustworthy.
Description of Work: In accordance with my maintenance agreement, Brandon performed the semi-annual maintenance on my very old furnace. About a month later when my furnace suddenly stopped working on a bitterly cold night, he came out in the middle of the night and got it working within 2 hours of my first call. Because I have my maintenance agreement with them, Horne didn't charge extra for coming out after hours. The following week I had 2 visits from 2 other Horne employees and each had a different idea of how to repair/resolve the issue permanently. Before performing any work, I called the office and said I wanted to ensure we knew what the problem was before "shooting in the dark." Don (I think he's the service manager) then came out with another employee and Brandon and together they identified the issue. Don consulted with me about a permanent fix, which would really be to install a new system. Despite being old, this furnace has never given any problems and my power bills are quite reasonable, so I decided to fix the old and hope for the best. So far I have not regretted my choice. I do appreciate the fact that they did not pressure me--they explained the costs and possible consequences and then let me decide. I will have to buy a new furnace before too long, but all indications are that doing the repair has bought me some time to prepare for it financially. Simultaneous with the furnace issue, the thermo couple (sp?) stopped working on my 9 year-old gas logs, and a standard replacement would not fit. Brandon put forth effort and time to research my partiuclar model. He found and installed the right part and the logs have been working fine ever since.

We have a yearly HVAC service contract with Horne Heating and Air Conditioning. Because of the excellent service provided thus far, we decided to go with their proposal for replacing our downstairs 1992 "Carrier" HVAC system with a high efficiency Trane system including new distribution duct work,-- (the older duct work was the square shaped fiberglass lined type which was a MAJOR source of mold and mildew allergens). The older system, itself, was on its last leg of reliability-- ( the furnace burner was rusted and prone to cracking and the A/C required annual recharging with exorbitantly expensive R-22 freon). Mr Jon Horne patiently worked with us over several visits and was able to design a system that satisfied our needs, yet didn't completely leave us penniless. The installation took three days, (b.t.w., kudos to Mr. Horne and his office staff for being very understanding and considerate after I called to reschedule the installation because of rain in the forecast). Cory, the lead installer, promptly showed at or before 0830 on every day of the 3 day installation. The crew finished after noon on the third day. Cory then went over every facet of of the system's components and operation, from an owner's view point. Before they left, I went into the crawl space, where the work was performed, and looked for signs of shabby workmanship and any debris and discarded materials. The work appeared solid and the area was as clean as it was before! Thus far, we are very satisfied with the operation of the system and my allergy problems have been noticeably reduced. Was the system expensive? Yes!! But, in the long run, worth it to us for lower energy costs and added resale value. I will definitely hire Horne Heating and Air again for future work.
Description of Work: Installation of an XL20i split cooling air conditioner, a XV95 two stage variable speed gas furnace, an R-410 aluminum high efficiency staged case coil heat pump, a Trane programmable touch screen thermostat, a Trane Clean effects system for up flow furnaces, and an XL split system 10yr parts and labor warranty. Notes: 1) XL20i Clean effects system included at no charge. 2)The total system is said to reduce furnace operation in mild weather conditions by 65%.

Terrible Scheduling. Back in September, I received a message that a technician would be at my house first thing the next morning for the tune up. I had not been previously notified. I called early the next morning to cancel and rescheduled for October 14th. After waiting 45 mins. with no tech (and missing work), I called and was told he WAS at my house. Turns out they sent the tech to one of our rental properties. Not very apologetic. Finally rescheduled for October 19th and he finally came at the right time to the right location. Tech was competent and professional.

They have given us excellent service. They sized the unit correctly for my house when they originally installed it and we've gotten a very efficient unit out of it. The technicians and sales representative we worked with was very technically competent. I priced a few other companies and I would rate their's highly. There have been no problems so far and they have only had to come out for routine maintenance. There have been a few occasions that they haven't shown up exactly when they said they would be but still showed up within a reasonable time.

The air and heating systems were working fine, and I only wanted to do a routine check. Brandon checked out the systems and recommended a new capacitor. Later that afternoon, when the air conditioner came on, it made a terrible noise. I immediately called Horne and they said to turn of the system. A new technician was sent who indicated that the capacitor had not been installed correctly. He reinstalled it and left. Neither of us checked to make sure that cold air was coming out of the system, and I didn't return home until 11 p.m. The next morning, I didn't have hot water for my shower, I called again and Brandon came out and turned the hot water heater back up. He said he had inadvertently turned it off when checking the furnace. When no cold air came out about 11 a.m., I called again. They sent someone else out, who told me everything was working fine. I asked him to be sure to check if cold air was coming out before he left. He confirmed it wasn't and said I needed a new compressor. He would not tell me how much a new one cost and seemed eager to leave the house. He said someone from Horne would call me on Monday morning. In hopes that I would have air conditioning for the weekend, I called another company who did install a compressor and confirmed that failure to install the capacitor would have blown the compressor. When I complained, Horne reimbursed me the $2,313 for the new compressor.

We did not use Horne mostly due to price. Their quote (~$10,000) on an XL20i AC combined with an XC80 Furnace was approximately $2,000 higher than the lowest quote we received from another highly rated Angies List service provider. My overall experience rating applies to the service leading up to the new system quote as well as the quote.
Description of Work: Horne provided us with quotes for the replacement of one of our HVAC units after our A/C stopped cooling. We had also been using them for small HVAC repairs at our house and they provided the initial diagnosis of a leaking coil for the most recent problem.

It was a great experience again. I had used Horne HVAC in installing a new system in a previous home. Jon Horne is extremely professional and service oriented. He helped me select the best system that worked in my home and budget. The installation went very well. They are extremely thorough. I am very pleased with the new system. Jon and his crew are all very knowledgeable, polite and service oriented. I will definitely use them again in the future.
Description of Work: Horne HVAC installed a new heating and cooling unit in our 1930's house. They replaced all duct work and added new vents as needed. They designed the sytem to cool part of the house that did not have AC. They addded insulation in an attic and installed two new bathroom ceiling fans.

Description of Work: Jon Horne was great to work with. He gave us a great quote with several options and his recommendations. He was flexible and worked within our budget to replace our old HVAC system. We got a top of the line system that should pay for itself with the energy savings. He also helped us with information on rebates and tax incentives. Chris Horne even called us about a month later to get us $200 rebate from Duke that we qualified for. We have used them before. They are responsive and it is easy to get an appointment with them. They send the same repair person so we develop a relationship with him and he remembers us, which is really great. They seem like experts and they are reliable. I trust what they are telling me about the systems. We have to get a new system probably in the next year and we are going to go with them.

I have had a good experience with them. They are punctual, professional and very clean. Their work has always been good as well. Update 2014: We no longer use or recommend Horne Heating and Air. They replace the builder-installed HVAC system in our attic and every piece of equipment up there was replaced, except for the drain. We had "dirty sock syndrome" which almost drove us out of the house and they were slow to respond. The system safety switches failed and overflowed into the house on three separate occasions. Toward the end, we could not even get a call back from John Horne for weeks at a time. They were great to work with as long as nothing was wrong. But once we had problems, we were ignored.
Description of Work: Last time they came they replaced a board in our compressor that had been struck by lighting. I have been using them for about 3 years. Update 2014: After several years with Horne, we had them install a zoned HVAC system in the attic which I've reviewed separately. Although we were happy with them doing yearly maintenance, the new system flooded three times and we fired them.
