I have been very pleased with the service and professionalism that they provide. And when that first 3 year contract ended last year, I readily renewed. Horne Heating and Air is great and I highly recommend their services.
Description of Work: I was referred to Horne Heating & Air By my electrical contractor (who is also a member of Angies List) when I had a duel fuel range installed in 2008. They did such a great job that when they told me about a 3 year maintence program that they had for my heating and air system, which included a twice a year tune up for the system, I readily agreed. The price was $630 for the 3 year contract and they billed it over a 12 month period to my credit card which made it very affordable.

All of our interactions with Jason and Horne were excellent.
Description of Work: Purchased $69 special for A/C Tune-up. We had no problem scheduling the service. Jason performed system maintenance. He found a problem with a circuit board that was still under manufacturer's warrantee. He also provided us with on a capacitor that, although operating, was not in good condition. He ordered the warranteed circuit board and returned to install it. We also had him replace the "weak" capacitor. The circuit board problem was common to other homes in our development and Horne's price for installation was more reasonable than some of our neighbors had paid. We were very satisfied with our service and signed a 1-Year Premier Efficiency Program with the company.

Service tech arrived right on time and got right to work. He checked out the inside unit first including gaining access to the coils. He assured me the coils were clean and in good shape. Moving outside he discovered the system was low on freon. No obvious leak was evident so he replaced the valve stems at the connections and serviced the unit with 2 pounds of freon. He then cleaned the outside coils and rinsed everything down. Everything was done in less than 2.5 hrs.
Description of Work: Pre-season check-up for my air conitioning system. Also included chemical cleaning of evaporator coils.

Horne was the only one that responded to my request out of three emailed from Angie's list. I think the fact that I was asking for zoned hvac utilizing dampers scared away the others. Horne responded next day and was out a day or two after that. Walk through and explained what I was thinking. I was not upsold or told something completely different to sell what they wanted me to buy, but was given knowledge that let me choose based on facts from their experience. Jon Horne came out for the walk through and was very knowledgeable about how to zone, utilize dampers and match with state of the art tech to make it all work. I got everything I wanted and it all works as expected. **UPDATE** Within a week of the install things started to take a turn for the worse. After everything was installed I realized later because I was at work all day while they did the install that no one actually tested everything post install. To my point, I found a damper in my bedroom that didn't work. Easy to find b/c bedroom was freezing even when thermostat was turned OFF. Second was I had 2 thermostats installed upstairs that we actually reversed. Meaning one was controlling another area then it was actually installed in. Service tech came out ordered another damper and switched the thermostats. I could have lived with that and chalked that up to minor issues. Unfortunately thats where the rough ride begins and is followed by 8 more service calls resulting in $1k plus in additional cost. Each visit was a result in either my upstairs or downstairs units failing and my family being without AC for a day. With a 6 month old baby and a 2 yr old that gets old real fast. besides the 2 initial issues the following happened. 1. upstairs AC unit goes out = low freon and clogged drip line 2. downstairs AC unit goes out = blown capacitor 3. Upstairs unit goes out = blown capacitor 4. downstairs goes out = capictor they put in was bad, replaced 5. upstairs AC unit outside starts shaking so bad the house in vibrating. When installing capacitor they put unit off balance I think you get t he picture. I emailed the owner with this timeline and he replied that they had actually been to my house 9 times for the issue here and few more. He mentioned he was regretful and most of the issues would have been picked up if I was signed up for their annual service plan. I paid several thousand $'s for and extensive HVAC upgrade but he basic checks on the equipment were never done to ensure issues wouldn't arise. Horne offered me nothing monetarily or service oriented for the rough ride that was initiated by their lack process and service that led to putting my family through this horrible experience. After which I had someone else come out and do an inspection to which they found leaks in the brand new duct work Horne installed and other leaks throughout the other areas Horne did work on. keep searching
Description of Work: Duct work was redone to maximize efficiency and also split the house into 2 zones to more accurately control temperatures. Also purchased two color hd screen Honeywell thermostats, outdoor sensor and a Honeywell wireless router than enables me to access my hvac control over the web. The install also included the installation of dampers to support the dual zones of the house. Split the house based on where the sun hits the house, so rooms are not too cold or too hot depending on sun position. I am very technical so I was asking for what I guess in today's hvac installs is fairly high tech. Horne met my every need and request with knowledge and know how. It did take a extra visit for tweaking but they offered and recommended it in the beginning. My house is absolutely comfortable in every room at any given time.

The entire process from rip out to start up went extremely well, no complaints, stayed on job until it was done. It was copleted in 2 days
Description of Work: Jon Horne came out surveyed the job completely in great detail. Gave estimate on the spot. Explained in detail all to be done. I gave them the job, they rippped out entire old system including attic and outside units. Replaced as contracted. All work was done neatly and professionally. Both the Heating and AC are woriking perfectly, All in all a real nice JOB.

I received a call from the Technician Jason, letting me know when he would be at my place, and he did arrive at the mentioned time. He asked what the problem was and then proceded to open the unit to make his diagnosis. He discovered that the capacitor was blown, then proceeded to to get a replacement out of his van. When he installed the new one, then discovered that the motor was not working properly. So a new motor, was needed. The parts had to be ordered and delivered to my place. He told me he would leave and come back to finish the job after the products were delivered. He returned after they were delivered and installed them, and started up the unit.
Description of Work: I called to do a service on the AC for my home that was built in 2005. The technician was punctual and went right in to discover the problem. The capacitor was blown due to an electrical surge, that could have been due to a lightening strike. He used one from off of his truck, then discovered that the motor needed to be changed. After he explained my options I had him continue the repairs. The parts were ordered and delivered in the time he told me, and he completed the task the same day.

Very, very good. the only problem was that the technican suggested that I go to a monthly billing for the semi-annual services. I agreed and the debit was to come out 2/1. When it did not come out, I called Horne and they said that the debit would start in March instead. Then the debit came through later Feb. I called again and this time the representative said that since it had not been deducted in early Feb., they were catching up, and that in the future it would be deducted the first of each month, which has happened since. It was just confusing. It had nothing to do w/ the actual services from Horne which have been excellent in the 10 years I have been w/ them.
Description of Work: Semi-annual tune up for Heat & A/C unit that I have had w/ Horne for approx. 11 years.

First, a sales consultant met with us to recommend an appropriate system. The sales consultant was punctual and recommended the right sized system to meet our needs. We were very pleased with this. However, when the system was installed we found a mix up had occurred and only 1 of the 2 systems were installed. The sales consultant blamed us for that mix-up which annoyed me as I was very clear we wanted to go with both systems. The total cost was also a bit more than I realized it would be due to the mix-up. Horne moved quickly to install the second system and all was satisfactory. We were very pleased with punctuality and courtesy showed by the install crew. After install, over the next few months we had three issues with the system that were due to installation defects. Horne's responsiveness to our calls to correct these defects was excellent and of course no charges were incurred for their work. Regardless, we would have preferred the initial quality of the install be better. We have been overall pleased with the system but felt that the humidity control the system includes was oversold. We were led to believe by the sales consultant that the system would be able to drive humidity out of the air over a long period of time by running on a slower speed. The idea would be that we could keep the house at a higher summer temperature, say 76 degrees, but drive the humidity down to 40 or 45% so it would feel like 72 degrees. After install this feature wasn't enabled. I had to get the sales consultant to walk me through set up after the fact and would have thought this would have been done as part of the install instead of just leaving the feature off. Second, once set up, it didn't work and the service team had to come out and correct the install errors. Finally, once the feature was working properly we found over time that it was not possible to maintain the humidity level of 40 to 45% with a 76 degree temperature. Instead, the system would slowly drive the temperature down to 73 degrees and stop with humidity still above 55%. So the system is working as designed; it is just we were led to believe it would be possible to use it to drive down humidity on hot humid days and this is not the case. We eventually set the humidity control to maintain 55 percent which was achievable, and set the temperature to 72 degrees, essentially negating the feature. The bottom line with Horne on this experience is an overall B+. Their system design, with the exception of the humidity feature, was perfect and met our needs. The system is top notch equipment (Trane). The install team was punctual and courteous at all times and the service personnel are outstanding. The only things that prevent the experience from being an A is the resulting install defects that had to be corrected with service calls, and the overall cost which we felt was a little high given the humidity feature did not turn to be effective for us. We continue to use Horne for all our HVAC needs as one tremendous strength they have is the quality of their service department and office staff. Everyone there is committed to customer service and ensuring any errors are immediately corrected. The service staff who service the equipment every six months do an outstanding job for a reasonable price. I would recommend Horne HVAC to anyone looking to install a new or service an existing HVAC.

They did a fantastic job, I found Jon very easy to deal with. They showed up on time and gave me a very detailed proposal. They just didn't replace my systems the gave me recommendations to improve our living enviroment. The job took a total of 4 days including Saturday. What impressed me most of all was that the Trane A/C unit that was installed downstairs was dead out of the box. They were able to get it running but the technician wasn't comfortable that the unit had problems. So the technician decided to replace it rather than repair a new unit. I would also like to add that they had a technician on hand for the inspection. So, if there were minor issues someone was here to fix it. They passed the inspections with flying colors!!!!

Owning several investment properties can be challenging to maintain when you don't rely on a property manager. My experience with Horne was the best experience I have ever had with a contractor when spending under $200. I called Horne and explained that the HVAC system in one of my properties had not been serviced for several years and that I wanted them to do a routine service and inspection. They explained the process and what it would cost. When I agreed, they took my tenants information and scheduled the appointment with her. This was unexpected - most service companies want you to do the scheduling - and this ends up being a process in itself - consisting of a back and forth "that time is no good, how about this time at this date." Several days later the technician called while he was at the property to inform me of his findings. He informed me of what measures where taken, gave me several options to extend the life of the unit, and even gave me a report of how the tenant was treating my property. I was impressed that he didn't tell me that the system had to be changed immediately. I am a contractor in a different field and know that people rely on my professional opinion to make decisions on systems they no little to nothing about. Horne's honest approach let me know that they aren't in it to make a quick buck, but to create a long lasting relationship built on trust. Horne Heating and Air will be my mechanical contractor for life because of this.

From estimate contact to final project, this was a perfect experience. Workers were responsive and polite. Worked quietly all day. Cleaned up at end. It could not have been a better job.
Description of Work: Installation of new supply and return box, all new ducts, return, main supply tank and branches.

We’ve used them twice, and we’ve been very pleased. Their prices are a bit high, but I feel like I get what I pay for. They showed us a photo of the cracked heat exchanger and advised us that we should get a new boiler, which we did. They did a thoroughly professional job, and I’d recommend them to others!
Description of Work: The last visit, they installed a new boiler. We also have a maintenance contract with them.
