In March we discovered that our compressor in our central air system had failed beyond repair. Since the furnace was 30 years old, it did not make sense to replace just the AC, so we decided to go with replacing the entire system. Choosing Horne was easy because they replaced the other system in our home only five months earlier. We were so pleased with our previous experience with Horne that we didn't even get other bids -- we went directly to Horne. Once again, Jon Horne came out and explained all of our options and we chose the most energy-efficient system he presented to us. We had to go out of town unexpectedly the day before the installation, but because of our previous experience with Horne we let them proceed with the installation in our absence. There were absolutely no issues and the system performs beautifully. The lead technician on the both of our installs was Brandon, and we want to recognize him by name in this review because of the excellent service that he has provided us. Based upon our experiences with Horne, we purchase annual maintenance agreements from them as well. The service provided with the maintenance agreements is every bit as good as the service during the installations. Just as Jon promised, our new systems are truly paying for themselves. Our energy bills are now less than half of what they were prior to installing these new systems. We would highly suggest purchasing the most energy-efficient systems you can afford, because you truly will see the savings.

At first I was very intimidated as I wasn't sure if this was just another company telling me everything was wrong and I needed a whole new system. Unfortunately for me they were being honest and they showed me photos that they had taken of my unit explaining to me all the problems they pointed out. This was a really great idea as it feels like when someone tells you you need a new AC unit (or heater, a big money project) you always wonder if they're being straight with you. I did end up going with my home warranty company and they sent out their own AC guys to plug up the problems, but I'm still considering going to Horne to do some upkeep work (since warranty only fixes problems). Very good workers, efficient, and trustworthy (i felt).
Description of Work: I had Horne over to give me an estimate on work on my AC system. I ended up using my American Home Shield to fix situation, but Horne was very detailed in their estimate (and had photos to back up their words).

Office staff was informative and friendly. They worked me in and Mike showed up @ my door @ the scheduled time. He originally thought that I had blown the compressor :( but it turned out to be a shorted wire and blown capacitor; both of which he was able to fix on site at the time of service. Unit is working flawlessly to date. I can see why these folks are the highest rated. Mike was excellent and I would have Horne service me in the future.

Horne installed the HVAC system in this house the year before we moved in, so we had them over for a regular appointment to maintain the unit outside. We asked their advice about who we should get to install new ductwork, and the representative said that they would be able to. Later that same day, a representative (Mike) came over and did a thorough inspection--he took the time to explain to me and my husband what we needed and what all of our options were. He offered us some options and upgrades, but he didn't pressure us at all. I really appreciated the time Mike took to answer our questions. We received an email estimate the next day--it was not cheap, but the price was fair, and it matched what we expected for the magnitude of the job. Once we accepted the estimate and scheduled the work, we were sent a picture of the team who would be doing the work. I appreciated knowing who to expect in our home, especially considering we weren't going to be home when they started work. The following Monday, Danny and Collin came in and removed the ancient, falling-down ductwork in our attic and crawlspace. It was a HUGE job. On Tuesday, they installed everything and stayed late to make sure all of the details were taken care of. Honestly, I was surprised that the two of them were able to finish the job by themselves in only two days. Horne also sent a representative out to our home to meet the Mecklenburg County inspector so that neither my husband nor I had to miss any work. They completed the work almost two months ago, but we've been very happy with how the whole system is working, especially now that the hot weather has come. We will definitely call Horne again.
Description of Work: Our ductwork was very old and falling apart, so we needed all new duct work in the attic and in the crawlspace under the house. Horne removed the old ductwork and completely updated and replaced the whole duct system.

Jason was on time and thoroughly inspected system. I had had problems with a faulty pressure switch on a new unit & home waived the cost of $230.00 for the re-newal of my maintenance contract for the up coming year because of this problem!

I received a quote for a new HVAC system and 40 gallon hot water unit. Of the 5 quotes I received from Horne and 4 other Angie's list contractors, Horne came in as 2nd highest. They were $1000 greater than median for exact same equipment and maintenance plans. The quote for the 40 gallon water heater was in line with others. I asked them to write up a contract for only the hot water heater work, with the name of the manufacturer for water heater on the contact. Horne never responded to do the work on hot water heater. I am going with another company.

Upon reviewing the appointment and follow-up history it appears our delay in getting the information to you was a result of the manufacturer's response to our inquiry, and a mis-communication on our part. We actually provided a second quote for only the water heater but were then asked to provide additional information about the appliance that was specifically quoted. In an effort to provide you with the most current information, we contacted our supplier for additional collateral. This collateral ended up being delayed from the manufacturer and we were unable to submit this documentation prior to your choosing another contractor for the water heater replacement. Our team could have done a better job communicating this delay, and we will use this scenario as a learning opportunity to improve our client services. Jason was knowledgable and pleasant, and quickly took care of the service and explained what had been done. He found a failing part, described its purpose to me, and replaced it with a new one he already had in his truck.I have had some poor experiences with other HVAC companies, but found Jason and Horne to be absolutely top notch. This is my second experience with Horne. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: I used an Angie's List coupon to get routine maintenance/checkup on my air conditioning. In the inspection, a weak starting capacitor was found on the outside unit.

Their service person, Doug arrived promptly and was very nice and clean, wearing booties to protect my floors. Doug was very thorough and explained everything as he performed the service. He even took pictures, which showed the A/C unit and potential problems in the future. The price was very reasonable, or should I say cheap, but the service was not cheap, it was excellent. I would definitely use them again and would refer them to others. Your first choice in air conditioning/heating maintenance and repair should always be Horne Heating and Air Conditioning.

I bought the Big Deal...Chris Horne actually called me before I could call him to let me know the following Monday he had someone in my area and ask if it would work for me-gotta love efficiency! It did work. Trey came right on time Monday morning, introduced himself, and got to work. He was polite, respectful and most importantly honest! Because my a/c unit is old, 18 yrs, itms not in perfect shape. I know what problems currently exist and in the past, other companies exagerrated the issues in an effort to make repairs. Trey did not. Everything he told me was already known and he didn't try to push for repairs. He also did not talk down to me or try to dummy down the issues as some other technicians havedone. This was most appreciated!

Appointment was confirmed for 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 9 2012. Waited until 10:30 - no show - no call. Called the office to obtain status. Office advised technician was 5 minutes away. Waited until 11:00 a.m. - no show - no call. Called office again to determine status. A different person advised that the technician was 5 minutes away. She further advised that an extended morning office meeting held up all technicians. I asked why I did not at least receive a courtesey phone call advising a significant delay. No material response was provided except for an apology. I advised that I had no interest in dealing with a service company that did not treat customers professionally and cancelled the service.
Description of Work: Purchased Angies list Big Deal for A/C Tune-up for $69.00.

Called Horne when it was discovered that the downstairs A/C unit was not cooling the house properly. They were out within 24 hours to take a look. We know our dual system unit is aging and probably needs replacing in the near future. The technician went through our options after he went through all the equipment. At this time, we decided to just have the freon refilled. The system was running/cooling before he left. We have been in touch with several companies for estimates on completely replacing the HVAC system, this includes Horne. If their pricing is as good as their service level, they will be hard to beat. They will also deduct the service fees from this repair, minus the flat trip charge, from the price of a new system if we decide to go with them in the next month or so. For what its worth, a neighbor had their freon level topped off and were charged about 20% more per pound of freon then we were from Horne. Good service and good pricing; What else can you ask for?
