Because I work during the day - and have to leave the office to meet anyone who does work at my house - i really appreciate having an *appointment* - and being notified when the service person is on his way. Horne gave me a window of between 3-5 PM on 10/08 and called me ahead of time to let me know when they were on their way. The technician arrived when he said he would and did a thorough inspection of my heating system, offering to change my filters while he was doing the work. When he was done he reviewed what he had found and told me of his only concern - and even though he felt I might be close to needing to replace a part, he did not push me to do so, indicating that it was still OK but that i might need to replace it in the future. He offered a service contract at a discount and provided me with all the info i needed to follow up. He was very thorough and very polite - and there is no question i would use this company again.
Description of Work: The technician contacted me to let me know when he would arrive and then arrived, as scheduled. He performed a thorough inspection of my heating system and then explained his results. He offered the option of a service contract and provided the follow-up info i would need. I was also contacted after his visit. Very thorough, very informative overall.

The service representative from Horne did a good job. He arrived on time and worked quickly to inspect and tune both furnace units. He provided me with a thorough explanation of all issues detected and explained all options for repairs and replacement. When he left, I noticed that the fan on one of my furnaces would not shut off. I contacted Horne and they re-dispatched the service representative to correct the issue. He fixed the problem quickly with apologies. I appreciated how quickly Horne responded to the issue. Mistakes will happen; the important thing is making it right, which Horne certainly did. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I hired Horne to do an annual tuneup of the two furnaces in my home. The service representative inspected both units as well as the returns and thermostats.

Thanks for the report. We have not serviced or contacted this AL member since April 2012 and feel this information and report is not warranted. The client was upset that a Big Deal tune-up could not be completed within 24 hours of purchase due to high no cooling demands. We rescheduled to accommodate those clients without AC, and the AL member decided to cancel the purchase. Horne gladly refunded the purchase price of the Big Deal. Horne has not requested feedback from this member and do not understand the timing of this report. We wish you luck with future HVAC services. Chris Horne

Our furnace stopped working on a Wednesday. A tech from Horne came on Thursday and determined that a blower motor had failed and that the heat exchange coil was rusting. We decided to look at a full furnace/AC replacement. Steve came later on Thursday and stayed past 5 o'clock explaining options and answering our questions. We decided on system components and signed a contract. The system was installed on Friday and we had heat again! There were a couple hours work needed on Monday morning to finish up. A problem arose on Friday morning because Trane did not have the furnace unit we selected in their warehouse. We had signed the contract after the end of business on Thursday. Horne management decided, because we had been promised Friday installation, to substitute the next higher model furnace (it was in stock) at no extra cost. Techs who did the installation were professional in every way. By evening, we did indeed have a working furnace as they had promised. Every person from Horne whom we met was friendly, professional, and displayed the easy competence and confidence that comes with total expertise in their business. I could not suggest a single way to improve our personal interactions with the staff. The prompt, excellent service, the free furnace model upgrade (how many businesses would handle the problem that way?), the quality of the products installed leave us totally satisfied. The culture of customer service at Horne is extraordinary.
Description of Work: The company replaced the furnace and air conditioning units serving the first floor of our house.

I bought a $69 deal on Angies List for a furnace tune-up, and had a wonderful experience. The technician was nice and very informative, and it turned out I needed a new furnace. They gave me a quote, but it was on the high side and ended up going with a different company. Overall though, my experience with them was wonderful!

The technician arrived around 8:30 instead of 8:00, but he called in advance so I knew he would be late. Horne is located about 30 minutes away from our home and that's the main cause of the delay, I believe. Technician was efficient and, it seems, thorough in his review. He spent time going over his findings and recommendations with me. I think the service was well worth what I paid.

Tune up and diagnostic both performed. Detected a serious problem that initiated the entire air unit being turned off as not to damage the system. I would have appreciated a follow up with what was turned off and why. My insurance ended up taking care of it.

He called me prior to the appointment time to tell me he was on his way. He arrived within a few minutes of appointment time and was very professional and courteous. When he completed his analysis, he provided me with a nice overview of the other services that the company offers and highlighted a few that he recommended. He was also very good about answering my questions.
Description of Work: He performed a furnace tune-up on my propane furnace. He checked various components of the unit and provided me with his observations and a detailed invoice showing the items he checked along with observed measurements. He found nothing that needed to be fixed immediately, but gave me a heads up on a few items that may become an issue in the future.

The A/C check, purchased as an Angie's List deal, was completed as scheduled. I was suprised to be told that my 8-year-old unit was supposedly on its way out. It worked fine the rest of the summer, and I certainly would get another opinion before letting them replace the unit. I purchased an annual maintenance plan from the company, and they've yet to call to schedule a furnace check which should've happened a few months ago. I had hoped they'd be proactive and good with communications, but that's not yet been my experience.

As for the recommendation, our technician was looking out for your best interest as the compressor was pulling higher than normal amps, and the system uses the older style R-22 Freon. Although it is only 8 years old, it is showing signs of a potential, costly failure. We certainly appreciate your feedback, and will look to have your heat tune-up completed in the very near future. I called Horne Heating and Air to get a second opinion after another company visited on the day prior. The other company told me that I had a cracked heat exchanger, which would cost $1300+ to replace. They also said we had a gas valve leaking. After they left, I discovered the heater didn't work although they claimed they simply turned it off at the thermostat. At my request, Horne sent Jason Brown to assess the situation and offer a second opinion. Jason had a camera on long "snake" scope so he could get a much closer and accurate look at the heat exchanger than the prior company using what looked like dentist mirrors. While we found something that looked questionable, Jason was unconvinced it was an actual crack and decided to investigate further. Jason removed the blower and crawled part way inside the furnace to get a much closer look at the heat exchanger. He shone a light on the other side of the exchanger to see if any indications of cracks showed. No light leaked where the crack was supposed to be. He reassembled the blower and pointed out several sloppy conditions of the unit demonstrating how his company cares for the units they service. Jason spent a moment more to assess why the heater didn't work and discovered a blown fuse from the day prior. He replaced the fuse free of charge, and the unit immediately turned on and started working. As Jason looked at the flame in the heat exchanger, he noted that it looked good compared to poorly shaped flames with cracked heat exchangers - further evidence we had no problem. He did note that the burners did not look clean, and this the day after I had another company out to service the unit including cleaning the burners! Finally, I mentioned the gas leak the other company had discovered, and Jason tested all of the gas connections wtih soap bubbles to see if there were any concerns and found none. At the end of the visit, I offered to pay Jason in spite of Horne's offer to do second opinions free of charge. He refused payment. So Horne, through Jason Brown, just saved me over $1600, exposed a lot of questions about a company I thought was trustworthy and knowledgeable, and probably just earned my ongoing business. Am I happy with Horne's service? You bet I am.

We had a bad experience with a previous company who had installed a/c units for us so we called Horne and had them come out. We found out things weren't up to code and they talked us through everything they would do and how to deal with the previous company. They also gave us a deal on a new furnance for our upstairs. They were professional, laid down plastic in our home and worked the hours they said they would and everything went very well. The units are working great and everything has been fine.
Description of Work: 2 new AC units were installed and a furnance was also installed in our attic. The old units were removed as well.

Description of Work: Paid $90 for a system diagnostic but their tech only looked at gas-pack for 15-20 min and refused to assess the rest of the system. I'm a novice when it comes to heating and air but I specifically asked when I called their office if the diagnostic comprised an assessment of the entire hvac system in my house. Given the number of positive reviews, I was shocked at the unprofessionalism and poor service. BUYER BEWARE IF YOU CHOOSE THESE GUYS!!

Thank you for the report on Angie's List. I was able to review your history and unfortunately the report leaves out a few details of the service call. Our single system assessment was clearly explained on the phone as the appointment was scheduled; and all details were noted in our software. Upon arriving at your location, we diagnosed the problematic system, advised of the necessary repairs, and provided an estimate to make those repairs. It was at that time the request was made to inspection the additional system at your home. This was not included in the original assessment fee, and ultimately we were not given the opportunity to complete any additional repairs or service. I understand our technician was on the receiving end of a few unprofessional words as well... not at all deserved. Based on this information our team feels this grade is unwarranted. Our technician performed the assessment as per our company standards. Horne Heating and Air Conditioning has been providing stellar HVAC service in the Charlotte area for over 30 years, and we stand behind our practices and reputation. All aspects of the project were explained to us. We were shown pictures of our existing system and Jon went through each item on his almost 2-hour meeting. The detailed quote listed all materials, including balancing and other technical aspect of such a system. Jon really was so professional and made sure we understood each step in the process. Dee at the office e-mailed a picture of Jon and a confirmation of his visit - very nice touch. A manager from Horne came out the day before the installation date to do another inspection to ensure all needed materials would be delivered. The installation team of Mark and Collin could not have been more professional or competent. They showed us the old duct work they removed - and we had a good chance to examine it - they explained the problems they encountered in an objective fashion. We were without heat one night, but that was minor. I noticed a remarkable improvement in my breathing from that first night, which has only improved each day. Dee kept us updated on the chain of inspections, etc., and Mark and Collin clearly wanted us to have the best job they could give us. Their cleanup was so immaculate you'd never know such a dirty project happened. Dee and Jon followed up with testing and appointments and coordinated the county inspection. In short, we are delighted with Horne, and intend to place our service contract with them when our current one expires.
Description of Work: Removal and replacement of entire duct system. Took three bids, one from current vendor, who, it turns out, created many of the problems with the existing duct work. The system quoted by Horne was from my research, the most efficient, clean system available, and the price was right in the middle.

Horne serviced my furnace. He said that he put a couple of safety switches on the furnace. He could not look at the coil because whoever installed the furnace did not put an access panel in to get to it and that should be done.
Description of Work: Horne serviced my furnace. I hadn't had it serviced in a few years. He was very cordial and explained everything he did very well. He advised that I would also get an email with full details. I have not received that yet.
