Mike did a thorough and professional job - even took the time to point out and explain some aspects of my heating system that I was unaware of. He brought up the benefits of enrolling in a service plan (as I'm sure they're all required to do) but wasn't pushy about it. He was extremely friendly and offered his personal mobile to be called if we ever had random questions about the system. A great experience overall.

We have a service contract with Horne to service our A/C unit seasonally. We decided to call them when our water heater was giving us problems since we noted they also did water heaters. Our water heater broke Saturday night but we were able to wait until Monday to call out a technician. He arrived during the time stated and went into our attic where our water heater was located. At the same time, he asked about our A/C unit which we had put off getting checked for personal reasons. He decided to check our A/C unit as well even though my husband told him we were putting it off meaning we did not want him to look at it. After spending some time (maybe 5-10 minutes) looking over the water heater and then another 5-10 minutes with the A/C unit, we were told we would need to replace both. The technician stated the water heater had a pinhole in the pipe going into the water heater which was causing it to leak and also there was a crack at the bottom of it causing the flames from the gas to heat the water to go out because of some kind of air flow from the crack. He told us that the water heater was too large to be removed from the attic through the stairs and would need to be left there. Immediately the technician suggested a tankless water heater. At no time did he show my husband where the problems were with the water heater. The technician also went outside to look at our A/C unit. He was unable to examine it thoroughly because it was too hot. Still he stated we would need a new A/C unit. We were given brochures for a new A/C and tankless water heater. The technician was unable to get an appointment for us with the person who came out for price estimates and told us someone would call us the next more to schedule. We waited and when we didn't get a call, my husband called and was told the person doing the appointments was not in yet at 9:30AM. We waited for a call back and my husband called again and was finally put in touch with the person scheduling the appointments. A sales person came out late that day but said he needed to go back to his office to finish the estimate. He did not call back with an estimate until later that evening. It was more than another estimate we got earlier that day, so we decided to go with another company to replace the water heater. To be fair, the estimate Horne provided, which was about $1350 to replace our hot water heater, was about average. We were charged a $90 service charge to come out and look at the water heater and A/C unit. In the end, we felt the other company was able to service our needs much more quickly and seemed more attentive to our needs.

Horne installed an HVAC system in my home and this was a scheduled tune-up. I can't remember the exact price since I paid for a couple years worth of service at the time of payment, but the technician was extremely nice and took care of everything I needed. He also knocked out a couple items that weren't necessarily tied to the HVAC installation but were related. Really enjoy everyone I've worked with from Horne.

A consultant came to explain Trane system. He thoroughly measured it checked all that was needed to be done & gave me an estimate. He was informative & explained very well. The day of installation the Technicians were on time, worked efficiently & were courteous. I was not able to get to the attic to observe. The process took 2 days. They cleaned up each day.
Description of Work: Installed a new Trane furnace & air conditioning unit. Removed old system completely.

OK. It did not take him very long, which made me wonder about the quality of the work as the systems were supposed to be "serviced". He then tried to sell me a maintenance plan and some repair work, which we deferred on for now. Not sure if I would use them in the future.

Excellent Excellent and Excellent. After 1 hour Air came and told me that I need a 3000.00 compressor, but a new unit would only be 5100.00. This price eventually escalated to 6100.00. I decided to get a second opinion. I found Horne heating and air on Angies' list. I called they sent a technician out named Jason. He very knowledgeable, courtesy, and just a down right good person. He took out the faulty equipment, because 1 hour air had mismatched the capacitor and the OEM motor. The capacitor basically burned out the OEM. The compressor was FINE. I did not need a new unit. This guy from 1 hour air was too pushy about buying a new unit which raised my suspicion. THANK YOU HORNE HEATING AND AIR!!! They saved me 6100.00, provided great service. You would think that I was being paid to say this, well technically they saved me over 5,000 dollars. As far as 1 hour air, I give the regional manager credit for refunding my money. They still kept the service charge for the trip. Sad.

I called to schedule maintenance on my HVAC and was assisted by knowledgeable and professional staff at Horne. The technician arrived with the notes taken by the staff on my situation - nicely handed off. The technicians use hand held devices for appt notes and invoicing - good use of technology. I liked receiving an email pdf instead of a piece of paper to track!! Mike was incredibly nice and provided professional advice. They don't tell you the appt time, but tell you the order you are in the day - we could work with that - others may be more picky. Thanks Angie's List for the help.

The HVAC system worked OK through the winter, but when the cooling season started the 3rd floor would not get cool. The system was running but not cooling. We called Horne back and they charged another $90.00 for a 'service' call. This time the technician found that one of the dampers was not functioning and had been disconnected. They did not notice this issue -- which was in plain sight-- on the initial service call. They quoted over $1,000.00 to replace the damper. I declined, and asked that my $90.00 service call fee be refunded due to fact that this should have been noted in the initial inspection. We had two follow up sales calls from Horne to try to get us to do the $1,000 service. I called another reputable HVAC service provider and they replaced the damper for under $450.00. We have used the other provider for other repairs and they were good both times.
Description of Work: We had Horne do an HVAC inspection from an Angies List offer for a "Big Deal Tune Up" in October 2012. They said that the system was good and then they pushed to sell us a 'service' contract and furnace filters as well as some other services.

To clarify for other members that may read this review: the Big Deal coupon clearly indicated at the time of service, no accessories (including zone systems) were included. When the AL member contacted our company in April 2013 with a no cooling concern, our team responded the same day, identified the problem provided a temporary fix on the zone system. The AL member declined the recommended repair, and we have not heard from this member since April 2013, until now. It was ok, it wasn’t spectacular and it wasn’t bad. They were prompt and honest, but everyone that came out gave us a different story.
Description of Work: They came out and serviced our furnace. Unfortunately we had to have two other companies come out after that.

STAY FAR AWAY AND DO NOT ENTER INTO A SERVICE CONTRACT. I advise people not to be deceived into signing a contract with this company. It is a trap for the unwary. They are like the companies you see in the exposes on 20/20 and Dateline. I first got their name from this list and had them do work on a heating until at a house for sale. The sales person convinced me to sign a contract promising that I would save money on the initial repair and I could use the contract to have the 2nd tune up on my unit at my residence. That initial work ended up being subpar. So I never called them again. Then they emailed me twice about getting the tune-up. So I thought I paid for it already, I might as well schedule it. The lady on the phone asked me how my system was running. I said it was running okay but I guess the air was not as cold as it used to be. Then she said their would be an additional charge (didn't say how much) to assess problems with my system. That was my first clue not to let these people come to my home. They were already $114 ahead of the game for a tune up that had not been performed and were trying to find a way to get more money over the phone. I told her that was ridiculous because if I get a car tune-up, they actually do some tune-up work but if they happen to see a problem or have a recommendation they don't expect you to pay for that unsolicited assessment. I then clearly told the lady on the phone, I paid your company for a tune-up, you perform that tune-up, and nothing else. I also said you make sure you tell the person who comes in my house not to do anything else or assess anything else because I am not paying you any additional money. She said okay. Then a man (different worker than the one who sold me the contract) comes to my home 1 hour late and immediately starts asking if my system is having problems. He said the thermostat says replace batteries, I told him it has brand new batteries. He apparently was trying to charge me $90 for telling me it needed batteries. After that, I told him, you came for a tune-up, only do the tune-up. He then went outside to the unit. He came right back in and asked me where my breaker box was, I showed him and went inside. I thought he just wanted to turn off power to the unit while he did a tune-up. At this point he had been at my house 7 minutes. He then called me and said my breaker for the downstairs a/c unit was not functioning. When I came, I was mortified because he had my whole breaker box apart. I asked him if he was a licensed electrician because I didn't want anyone messing with my electrical panel. He said he had what he needed to repair it right in the truck but never answered the question. He went to the truck and came back with a price book and pointed to a line that said $160 and said that is in addition to $90. I told him I would only let a licensed electrician work on my box and I didn't authorize him to do anything but a tune-up. He said he couldn't do the tune-up because the system wasn't working. He then said I owed him $90. I told him it was working before he came and he didn't do anything for $90. I told him I already paid in advance and asked what did he do for $90 in 5 minutes. He said I was paying for 5 minutes of his knowledge. I told him I did not want their service and to put my panel back. He clearly was inexperienced with panels because he could not even click it back into place. I told him I was hiring an electrician to look at my panel and I was not going to use their services. He said he would get his things and leave. I went inside. 10 minutes later, I saw his truck was still in my driveway. I went to the side of my house with the units and I saw him bending over the units with his cell phone up in front of him. I asked what he was doing, he ignored me. I then asked more assertively and he said he was getting his things. I told him he said that 10 minutes ago, the until did not have to be put back together because he never touched it and he only had a few things. He then said his company requires him to write down the serial numbers on people's units when they don't get their service. I told him he needed to leave because I didn't authorize that and regardless there was no way it takes 10 minutes to write down numbers. He refused to leave and said "You people are always so difficult to deal with". I asked him what he meant by "you people". He said I shouldn't get mad at him for something his company makes him do and he wasn't doing anything to my system and he was going to stay until he got what he needed. Whatever he meant I didn't want someone with his kind of views working on anything at my house and I told him if he didn't leave in 5 seconds, I would have to call the cops. I called an electrician and found out the system breaker was working and it had been tampered with to appear otherwise. The next day the company had the nerve to send me a bill by email for $90. I want my money back I paid for the services they never performed and never had any intentions of performing. Response: The person who responded below wasn't there so the information is unreliable. It was Jason who was at my house. I did not retract what I said about my system. Many companies that do dishonest things stay in business for a very long time. In this world, it usually the good ones that go down early. This company has no right to come on your land and write down serial numbers of property you own unless they are given permission so that too is trespassing. Under most circumstances, people who are not committing crimes do not get afraid when you say you are going to call the police. I would be a fool to ever trust them near my system again.
Description of Work: They were supposed to be performing a tune up. I paid $228 for a contract that was to provide for 2 tune-ups of your HVAC system. They did nothing but mess up breaker box which they were not authorized to open.

Thank you for the review shared on Angie's List. To clarify for other members, we were called to the home to perform a seasonal tune-up as per the pre-paid agreement. When scheduling any tune-up appointments we confirm if the system is operational so the service may be performed. In this case the AL member commented that the system was not working. Our team advised the client there is an assessment fee for trouble-shooting the equipment, in order to ensure it is in good working order to perform a seasonal tune-up. At that time, the AL member retracted the comment about the system not working well, and stated it was working fine. Our technician arrived on-site and found the system was indeed not operational. He began to assess the system, and was immediately told by the AL member to leave. Our technician then packed up his tools and returned to his vehicle. He walked back to the equipment to record model and serial numbers as part of the normal procedure for our tune-ups. Our technician then left the property as requested. AT NO TIME WOULD ANY HORNE HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING EMPLOYEE TAMPER WITH EQUIPMENT. To be accused of dishonest service is simply unfair and offensive. If our organization truly operated as written by this member, I can assure you Horne Heating and Air Conditioning would not have sustained 31 years of business with excellent customer service. We received excellent customer service starting with the first phone call to Jeff to schedule an estimate. Michael prepared the estimate, and gave us a very good explanation of our needs and both system and financing options available to us. Brandon and Brandon installed the system components during some of the hottest weather we had this summer, and were very efficient and professional in doing so. Horne provided an excellent overall team effort for our purchase and we have been very pleased with the results.

Their services were wonderful. I called first thing in the morning, like everything else we really needed because that was in night so I had one of those controlled devices put on my air conditioning by the electric company. It is like a power monitor and so they told me whenever anything happens call them first so I called them, they came down right away, they were wonderful and they looked and they opened it up and the guy said it is an adjustment I will fix it so he was the one who told me what was wrong with the machine and he told me it was the capacitor. I called them the next morning and I didn't tell them that the electric guy was down and told me what was wrong with it because sometimes they will try to sell you something you don't need, so we worked in the unit and he came back in and he said it is not a big deal and it is only the capacitor so I was thrilled that they were that honest about it and he cleaned it out and he replaced that capacitor and he just charged me for the diagnostic and then he charged me for the capacitor. It was not a bad price and he reminded me to go print out the coupon from your website. I would use them again.

I had called around to other companies; Horne quoted a good price plus they had a good rating on Angie's list that is the reason I chose them. The tech explained every step he was doing and why. He didn't try to sell me anything unneeded.

Technician was on time for both calls. Personnel in the office helped with checking on air conditioner warranty. Saved us $1200.00.
Description of Work: Check air conditioning system for loss of cold air. Replace fan assembly.

I will never use their service again. They completely messed everything up and never stood behind their service. Once we had problems, they stopped responding to me all together.
Description of Work: I have a two story house with upstairs and downstairs units. They completely replaced the unit in the upstairs unit.

The service had been fine. One of the mechanics was very good. He did great work. The second mechanic was also good, he just was really trying to sell a new unit which really annoyed me. He was there to fix the unit not to sell us a new. The work that was done by both mechanic's was very good. The only problem I had was with scheduling and the back-office.
Description of Work: They replaced a coil that was still under warranty. They also cleaned the system and did some maintenance work. We have a maintenance agreement with them as well.

The work they did was fine. The price was higher than I thought it should have been. I won't use them again because of the price.
