We were impressed with Jon Horne's proposal and expertise regarding AC units in our building. Richard, Will, and Colby did an awesome job installing the new unit. Dee was very easy to work with regarding payment and scheduling an appointment by the county inspectors. It was great to have CJ there with the inspectors. Overall, a great experience with Horne.

We waited for the first tech to come back and service us, but being in Harrisburg and them in Belmont it took weeks for us to get an appt. Horne should not list Harrisburg as a service area. We are now happy with our new company. But I have to say our first tech was very honest and told us we did not need a new unit. I always asked for him and waited for him. The other did the usual sales talk instead of fixing.
Description of Work: The compressor coil was defective, and needed replacement. The was to be no charge for the item itself, just the labor and other parts needed. The owner gave me a very hard time about not charging me for the coil. It was a warranty item there should have been no problem. The one tech we had was great, the second one we had tried to talk us into a new unit. To this day, with another company, we still have the same unit. The first tech was very honest, the second one was a used car salesman. We now have a new company that gives us honest service.

Wonderful. Sheri can out right away and did a thorough search of our current HVAC system. She recommended three alternatives. We decided on the middle choice. An installation crew came in 48 hours and began installing the new system. They were very efficient, explained what they were doing and why it was important it was done.. The job was done by 4:00 even with the men taking time to help us learn to program our phones to set the thermostat when we needed to

Horne attempted to repair an A/C unit that had shut down after a clog in the condensate line caused water to fill the overflow pan, triggering an auto shutoff. Less than a month later, the unit stopped functioning again and we called Horne back. Their tech said that the line was clogged again and he attempted to clear it, but he indicated that since it was dark outside he could not be sure it was open. He also indicated (after consulting with Horne's earlier tech) that the drain line was too long and needed to be reconfigured or supplemented with a pump; the clog removal would only represent a temporary fix. The unit shut off yet again that night. Upon calling Horne again at 8:00am the next morning, we we told that they were very busy and we would have to wait for the next available appointment - despite the fact that Horne had failed to fix our problem on two separate prior calls. Three hours later (still without A/C), we called again for an update, and were not offered an ETA. At that point, we contacted another firm who sent a tech quickly to examine the unit, found that the old clog had been only partly removed due, in their opinion, to an inadequate attempt to flush the line. They completely flushed the line (spending more than 3 hours to do so - versus less than an hour total from Horne), indicated that the length and slope of the drain line was fine, and saved us from a costly and apparently ill-advised upsell from Horne.

Being fairly new to Charlotte we checked angie's list and neighbors who were still up last night for referral. Called before 8 on Sunday morning and my call was returned within 5 min. by Jason Payseur. He had call ahead of us but was here by noon. He was very personable and very professional!!! He found the problem and worked with us on our home warranty from our Realtor. He explained the problem so we understood it and got us back into cool air. I would recommend this firm in a heart beat. I am very satisfied with the professional, friendly service from Horne. Saturday morning, I submitted a request online for routine maintenance. Within minutes, Sharon called me to schedule an appointment for Monday morning, which delighted me since I expected to have to wait perhaps a week to be seen. Then she clearly explained the options for setting me up with a maintenance agreement, at my request – nothing was pushed on me. Finally, once I chose a plan, she quickly and efficiently helped set up my recurring payment, with very little effort on my end. To say the least, I was impressed by the fast and friendly assistance from Sharon, which is very different from the sometimes apathetic or even irritated manner in which other companies’ reps have responded in the past. Now it’s Monday, and the maintenance has been done. As promised, Jim called ahead of his arrival. He was friendly, very knowledgeable, and unpretentious. He performed his work efficiently, and was very thorough. Best of all, his communication skills were excellent, and he explained his findings and recommendations in clear, understandable terms. There’s an expression, “The devil is in the details.” Here is one small point – I could give others -- to illustrate Jim’s focus on looking at the system as a whole. He asked why I kept the thermostat fan in the “on” mode. No one else has ever questioned that, so I was surprised by the question. More than 10 years ago, an HVAC tech recommended putting the fan in the on position to distribute the cool air better, and ever since, I’ve kept the fan running continuously when the AC is running. Without talking down to me, Jim thoroughly explained why I should do the opposite of what I’ve been doing: that is, I should set the fan to auto when the AC is on, and set the fan in the on position when the heat is running. I won’t go into details here, but if you would like to confirm this advice, you can Google “should I set my ac fan to on or auto” for a full explanation. Overall, I found Horne provided outstanding service, and I’m so glad Angie’s List subscriber reviews helped me find them.

Outstanding. The service appointment was scheduled for the same day. Technician called 30 minutes ahead of arriving, as planned. After hearing about the symptoms of my problem and the horrible answers from another service provider, the technician started a logical and disciplined process of evaluation and diagnosis. While another supplier suggested I needed a complete system replacement, this technician was able to fix my problem by replacing a capacitor and removing some freon from the system being over-charged. Outstanding professional service and great value for money. These guys will be my go-to company for all future HVAC needs.

We didn't like them. The packages were a little above and beyond what we needed. They did a good job, but their maintenance packages are a little above and beyond what we need. They offer priority service for more money so that we would be fixed within 24 hours. I can get fixed in 24 hours. I don't need to pay more for it.

Jason Payseur was knowledgeable, professional and efficient. On Wednesday, my neighbor told me he had just his entire upstairs AC system replaced. When my upstairs AC went out on Thursday evening, I was prepared for the worst. I did a search on Angie's List and gave Horne HVAC a call. On Friday late afternoon I had cold air again for less than 300 dollars - money well spent. Thank you.

The visit went well. Jeff determined that the moister sensor had shut the system down due to a small amount of condensation that accumulated in the pan of the upstairs unit. This condition was caused by low coolant which caused condensation to freeze on the coils and then melt. Jeff was knowledgeable about what needed to be done to resolve the issue. He added coolant to bring the system back to within manufacturer's specifications, dried and reinstalled the moister sensor, and cleared a blockage in the drain line. The system has performed well since the repairs were made. Great Job!
Description of Work: The upstairs AC unit was not operational. The technician diagnosed the problem within a few minutes and determined that the system was low on coolant. Needless to say, coolant was added and the system was operational again.

My highest recommendations for Horne Heating and Air Conditioning! Do not hesitate to trust them with your business. I decided to go with Horne because they obviously take great pride in their work. Their attention to detail sets them apart from the other companies. They are professionals who truly care about providing excellent service. Larry did an excellent job explaining everything and made himself available for questions. He went out of his way to make sure that everything was in order. Came out the first time when they said they would-on a Saturday- Cost was $125 for the diagnostic- the service tech spent at least two hours here. The part was close to being out of warranty but Horne checked with Tappan (I did not have to do that hassle)-the part was under warranty- the part came in in two days and they came out the next day- two techs spent about two hours here- explained everything in detail. Great service.
Description of Work: A major part of our heat pump went out- they checked with me on the warranty- they called Tappan and worked that out- the part would have been $1400-it was under warranty! We paid for the labor and then ended up buying a service contract.

The only contractor who took the time to address our special requirements. The contract was 5 pages long and specified in detail everything the contractor was going to do. Other proposals for the same work were as short as 1/2 page and completely ignored our special needs. This contractor told us what he was going to do, then he did it exactly as specified! The day before the work was commenced, the estimator (Ken) and foreman (Mark) visited our home to review with us in detail the work to be done. During the actual installation, the foreman and workmen (Richard & Michael) were very pleasant and answered our endless questions with patience. If we asked them to do something extra, they did it. Needless to say, all our new systems performed flawlessly. These guys are real professionals, from the youngest to the oldest. One of our new neighbors told us that Horne was the gold standard in Charlotte for HVAC work. We could not agree more.

2/4/16 diagnosis - bad thermostat - ( WRONG - but tech was nice) OK replace - $303 a nice NEST would have cost less! cost of unnecessary thermostat not covered by 90 day 'warranty' meanwhile, complain about no heat (unseasonal lows of 30's) 2/12/16 diagnosis - bad gas valve relay - $417 OK replace, but thermostat should be refunded on phone hold with Tim - no refund on thermostat got "MA'AM"ed by different service tech (nice at first) long story short had to pay for thermostat i didn't need

We have an older home with a boiler system for heat and on Friday I woke up with no heat in my house and no idea why. I called a few random companies who did not work on boiler system and then hit upon Horne HVAC. I can not stress enough how wonderful their customer service is. The woman who answered my call was very helpful and said a tech would be out to my house when one was in the area that day which was completely acceptable to me (I knew it was an emergency call and I expected to have to wait for an available tech). Yet not more than a few minutes later she called back to ask if one of the owners could stop by and take a look as he didn't want us to be without heat over the weekend and if a part needed to be replaced, time was of the essence. Mr. Horne came right away and assessed the issue. We did need a part replaced and he said he would call me with the cost before going ahead with the repair. Within a few hours I had received a call about the cost of the part, the repair was complete, and my house was back to being warm again. Above all, the customer service is what I am most impressed with. Every single person I spoke with was very kind and helpful, pricing was given ahead of time, a full explanation of the issues was given, and I felt like everyone genuinely cared about my need. This was the first time I had used Horne HVAC and they now have my business going forward.

Fantastic experience all around with Horne Heating & AC. After locating this business via Angie's List and sending a message requesting initiation of a maintenance/service plan for my heating & air system, I was promptly contacted by a very friendly and professional woman (Sharon), who reviewed Horne's various service plans with me. Horne provides multiple choices for annual plans, which allowed me to find a good fit for my budget and needs. My initial service visit was promptly scheduled and I was again pleased to find another very friendly and professional member of the Horne team, Doug, who arrived promptly, explained the work he would be performing as part of the inspection/service visit, and answered all questions I had. A small repair was needed and completed during the same visit. I discussed with Doug my issues with temperature regulation between the upstairs and downstairs of my house, and he immediately scheduled a consultation for me with another member of the Horne team who could provide me with more in depth information and/or quotes, as needed. I was pleased to meet yet another very friendly and professional member of the Horne team (Jim), who came out to my home for a free consultation. Jim took the time to fully discuss and understand my concerns and needs as a homeowner. He discussed several options with me, fully explaining the pros, cons and costs (where applicable) of each option. I now have the information I need to determine the best course of action for me and my home. In addition to the excellent customer service, professionalism and technical knowledge of the Horne team, I have been particularly impressed that at no time during my interactions with their team did I feel I was being pushed or pressured toward any particular service, repair or equipment replacement. Based on my experience with Horne, they appreciate that there is no "one size fits all" approach for their homeowners and are focused on achieving the most optimal and cost effective outcome for their customers. Highly recommended!!!
Description of Work: Performed inspection of heat/air systems, replaced a part (capacitor) on system; provided suggestions and quotes per my request regarding solutions to address better temperature regulation within home.
