We received an estimate 8/4 over the phone. The person I spoke to (Dave) did a nice job determining our needs. Having already looked on Angie's List I was comfortable and chose to go with CPI and scheduled installation for the following Thursday 8/11. On the 10th we received a phone call reminding us of our appointment and we were given an hour window during which time our installer would arrive. Within that time Danny arrived and from the start he was very professional and polite. He came in, explained what he was scheduled to do and completed the necessary paperwork.. He checked the layout, we discussed a concern and decided to make an addition to the equipment we wanted, but the change was a result of Danny actually seeing our layout and listening to my questions. (We weren't pressured into the change!!!) He told us it would take about 5 hours, and then he set to work. Right from the start it was apparent he knew what he was doing. He worked methodically and systematically for right around 5 hours. When he came through the house he made sure not to track mud/dirt through the house. He had to drill holes (he had multiple cordless drills and kept a battery on the charger so there was no wasted time), when he finished he vacuumed the sawdust. When he finished everything was neat and orderly. In fact other than the addition of the motion detector and the console, there was no evidence of Danny having been in the house. He explained how the system worked and that was that. The system is working well and we are pleased. I would recommend CPI to anyone interested in a security system installed in a professional, timely manner. Thanks to all involved

I’m in shock of how good they are! We have a 2-way voice system, and when the alarm goes off they can communicate instantly. They are very professional in making you do what you’re required to do. They remind you to regularly check your system. They are very good about with their response time for service.

They originally installed the alarm system and wired the property. They also maintain it on an annual basis. They monitor any unusual activity that they may come into contact with when you're home or not home. You can also manage your service with them when you're leaving home. They also take care of breakdowns after power outages. Sometimes, they have to send out a technician. On the last visit, they sent out a technicians after a blackout.

I was very pleased with the install process. During the install, my salesman, the Quality rep, and an installation supervisor all dropped by to make sure everything was going smoothly. The monitoring service has been great. They do lock you in to a contract (mine was for 3 years) but if you sell your home before the contract is up, you can pay off the rest of your contract and include the remaining prepaid months in the asking price of your home. When you sell, CPI has a whole department dedicated to transferring the service to the new owners.
Description of Work: CPI came out to my house one evening to demonstrate their system (they have a portable system that actually works). Once I had decided I wanted to hire them, they came out a few days later to do the installation.

We were very pleased with them. We had a break in that sent us right to them. We had never had an alarm system before. They were responsive any time I called. The installation was done well and they cleaned up after themselves. I feel much more secure having them looking after the security system.

Overall, the project went well. We dealt with one sales person - one point of contact for questions and issues from beginning to end . . . very good. The presentation of the product and services was impressive. The price was a little steep but we got the whole kit and caboodle - not one opening to the house was left unprotected. We also got their internet access/notification package (awesome convenience) and cellular backup (great peace of mind). The system works as advertised and we have been very pleased with it. We've had it now for about 6 months. We did have two minor problems though. The first is that one of the garage door sensors was not installed properly and it scraped the garage ceiling when the garage door opened. This should have been tested and fixed before the installer left the premises. They did come back promptly to fix the issue. The second problem was that, in six months, I?ve had to replace my key fob twice due to malfunctions ? I think it was a battery connector problem inside the fob. My wife has had no problem with her key fob, however. The primary suggestion that I have for CPI Security, and the only issue that I have with the system, is that when my wife leaves for work at 6 am, if she arms the security system with her key fob as she is leaving the garage, the interior keypads beep for about 30 seconds before the system arms ? these beeps wake me. Your key fobs should be able to arm the system silently. Alternatively, she could arm the system from the downstairs keypad and, with a 30 second delay; she could jump in the car, open the garage door, back the car out and close the garage door before the alarms sounds. This would avoid the 30 seconds of beeps but she doesn?t want to be rushed every morning. So, I get to hear beeps. Sometimes I can go back to sleep and other times I can?t. This should be an easy fix CPI ! A tip for buying a security system. Be sure you put your keypad(s) in a location where you will typically be most of the time. We had one keypad installed at the bottom of the stairs where we enter the house from the basement. The other keypad was installed in the bedroom at the end of the hall. Well, if we are in the kitchen and want to open the back door to go to the deck and grill some hamburgers, I must either go to the bedroom at the end of the hall or to the bottom of the stairs at the basement to turn the alarm off. Alternatively, if I can find my keys, I could disarm the system with my key fob, I guess. In hindsight, I would probably put a keypad at the top of the stairs also - which would be near the kitchen. Thought this may help someone.
Description of Work: We had a whole house alarm system installed. That included nine windows, two garage doors, three exterior doors, two key pads and two keyfobs.

It went really well. I was pretty sure I wanted to use them, so I sent an e-mail via their Website asking for more info. Someone called me back within about 15 mins, and we spent the next 45-50 mins going over all my options and designing a system for my home. We made an installation appointment at that time for a few days later. The installer was on time, professional, efficient and friendly. He went over the system basics with me and gave me the owner's manual and toll-free number to call for more info before he left. My only complaint is that I thought the installation was a little pricey, considering my house is only about 2,000 sq. ft., but I pretty much always think everything is too expensive.

After calling CPI and speaking with a sales representative, I scheduled a "free" installation. When the installer arrived, he realized that due to the age of the house that a wireless system would be more prudent than fishing wires through the plaster walls. This generally costs significantly more than a standard free installation. He was able to reduce the price seeing that we had expected it to be free. He had to work route a power supply to the system due to the plaster walls. In the end we also received complimentary key fobs to use with our alarm system as well.

It was really frustrating. The first rep. who came out was quite unprofessional; started out by telling us an intimate story regarding his marriage. He also had us sign the contract without pointing out that we were signing on for 5 years, which I think is extremely unprofessional and shabby behavior. Then it took CPI at least 5 visits and 5 additional phone calls to iron out the problems between our phone/Internet service and their system. Their Quality Assurance person did call to speak with us, but by then, I was not willing to give this company any more of my time. I say we'll use them again because of the existing equipment and our 5-year contract, but I wish we had gone with someone else. Their big selling point was that they're the only alarm company with a local presence to respond to alarms, but really, anyone can do that over the phone. It sometimes takes as long as 5 minutes for them to respond over the voice box when a (false, so far) alarm is triggered. So far, their customer service people are the best part of the company, compared to their sales and tech people.
Description of Work: They came out to transfer the existing service to us, as we had bought a house with their systems already installed (system included several window break detectors, regular detector, and wireless phone backup). Our monthly service cost is about $40.00.

We have not had any problems with the service. When we accidentally tripped the alarm, the company called us right away and made sure that it was a false alarm. The only issue that I have with the company is that they frequently call us (many times a year) to "verify that our contact information hasn't changed." I'm not sure why they feel the need to keep calling us to make sure that we have not changed our address or phone number - it gets to be a little annoying.

CPI locks people into expensive long term contracts by providing shoddy equipment up front for free. The equipment requires expensive, hard-to-find batteries and is not high quality. After almost 4 years of a 5 year contract, I am getting married and moving out of state. Despite the fact that I cannot take the equipment with me, and CPI does not operate in the state I am moving toward, they are going to continue to charge almost $40 a month for over another year. CPI has terrible customer relationships and I would NEVER advise anyone to work with them.

WARNING!! Be aware that if you purchase an alarm system and sign up for monthly monitoring from CPI that you are signing up for a 60 month contract!!! They do not disclose this up front, and if you wish to cancel your service prior to the 60 months they will stick you with an early termination fee. I had my service with them for 3 years, and decided to switch to a cheaper monitoring company. I was informed by CPI that I would have to pay over $700 since my "contract" was not up. When I informed them that I did not have a contract, they said that I signed up for 60 months. Apparently there is some "fine print" on the "work order" you sign that commits you to a 5 year contract. However, this was not disclosed at the time I signed the work order. I canceled my service anyway and disputed that I had signed a contract since it was not disclosed to me up front. If it had been, I would not have purchased their service. CPI informed me that I could not cancel my service verbally, that I had to submit it in writing. Also, they said that a tech would have to come to my house and remove the "speakers" that were CPI property. It took almost 3 weeks to get someone out to our house to do this, and when they finally send someone it was a salesman, not a technician. This guy tried to talk us into keeping our business with CPI. He took something off the system that now keeps the alarm inside the house from going off if the alarm is tripped, and they also messed up our phone lines. They now refuse to come back and fix anything until we pay them $200 (I have no idea where they got this figure). MY RECOMMENDATION: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH CPI!! YOU WILL REGRET IT. THEY HAVE NO INTEGRITY.
